Men and Women in Society
Warning: Post constants sexual anatomy and may be seen as NSFW to some. No sex is involved but does mention sexual body parts. Scroll away if wanting to avoid.
One of the major themes my AU experiments with was gender roles, specifically role reversal where the women were considered "superior" than their male partners. Since they weren't the one giving birth, women were often considered (though obviously it depended on the family) to be the "breadwinner". Going to work, paying bills on time, making sure society is at least somewhat stable, were all female duties and responsibilities. Before more modern times, there were very little jobs that would hire men, due to the belief that they needed to be in the home.
Physically, men are generally shorter than women and are often thinner and with less muscle mass. Of course, this is discussing the average feeling and not special circumstances like Jorgen Von Strangle or his magically-gifted wife, The Tooth Fairy. Males are often a little bit curvier as well.
Their anatomy is much like humans, except their sexual organs are reversed. A huge part of a male's usefulness had to do with the health of their uterus. so in older times, if a man was unable to have children or refused to have children, they were considered "undesirable".
That attitude, while still very much present, has weakened greatly over time after Jorgen Von Strangle came into power as well as Miguel Fairywinkle becoming the first male CEO in all of Fairy World (bonus points for his company being involved in garbage, a wildly known female job. It would have been much less impressive had he been the owner of a nursery for example).
Von Strangle, despite his overly aggressive and dominate personality, always believed that men and women should be treated equally, and both are capable of amazing and horrendous things. (I need to do more research and figure out how he managed to come into power, so it'll be a bit before stuff on him is posted)
In more modern times, while people are generally more accepting of men being adapted into society instead of being confined to the home, other still have opinions on the new home. Miguel, for instance, (depsite keeping the secret that the only reason he's the CEO of his company was because his mother passed down the company after her passing and has no sisters), holds great disdain and dislike for those that decide to be house husbands to work in childcare jobs. He believes that men should be fighting harder than ever to work in more women-dominated jobs, instead of staying at home, even if it is by choice. He just doesn't understand why a male would choose to stay at home with their child instead of living their life and contributing to society.
Linnie Cosma, father of three as he proudly states (four if counting Luna Cosma, who will be explained later on). on the other hand has the more conservative idea that there is nothing more important than a man being there for his family. While he's not nearly as contemptuous as Miguel is towards those with contrasting viewpoints, Linnie believes that a man should put his children above himself and his career first. An ideal man to him is one that puts his career on hold if it means his children and family are a priority. \
Men's and Women's roles in the world will be further explored in future topics, such as parenthood, child custody and divorce laws, and anything else suggested.

The thing is for me as a woman, admitting that even with regular exercise I'll probably always be physically weaker than most men, doesn't equal saying I'm weak, or that my sex is weak, or that me or my sex are less than or worse than men. Because I'm not a sexist, misogynistic arsehole. Yeah my bones and muscle mass might be inferior - just like a spider is smaller than a human. But some snake's poisons will kill an adult man in seconds, and in the same way, I will bloody hurt a man if I have to, because I've got more brains, more heart, and more ovaries than any of them. Acknowledging science doesn't mean women are the weaker ones any more than acknowledging gravity doesn't mean humans can't ever step on the moon.

I am not at all qualified to make this post so obviously I will be making it. Basically I've noticed something with how men vs women and queer ppl consume shonen manga.
When I'm on tumblr and ao3 I mostly see women and queer ppl post about manga but on tiktok I see mostly (straight) men. And I see a lot of difference between what they usually want for characters (especially strong ones)
I'm gonna focus on jujutsu kaisen cuz it was this manga that made it finally click in my head. What ppl want for characters and the story is usually directly tied to their identity especially gender identity and ofc the patriarchy.
I'll start with the example that gave me this lightbulb moment: on twitter and tumblr (where I curate my feed btw which makes a huge difference since i follow mainly non-men) I see ppl wanting gojo to essentially have an emotional breakdown or go thru some type of pain and go berserk out of the emotional heartbreaking pain of losing his loved ones or being forced to kill them.
Then on tiktok (where I look thru my fyp so I don't really curate my feed so any manga type videos come up and they're mixed with videos of men) I see alot about who would win in a fight between sukuna and gojo. About who would "dog walk" the other. A LOT about fighting and violence and killing. (In my head I'm thinking why the solution is always straight to killing the other person? Idk writers can get creative with endings that don't contain just straight up killing characters)
This got me thinking: why are ppl so obsessed with the fight and the violence? Then I'm like: well it's a shonen that's the genre. But then that would mean almost everyone who consumes shonen would have similar thoughts. But like I pointed out in the example, that's not the case. Why do the men focus so much on the violence and the women and queers focus on the drama and emotion? The character and their relationships?
Then it hit me: it's about PROJECTION. About living vicariously thru these characters. Men project themselves on these powerful characters and live out their fantasies of being strong, powerful, violent with no one who can get in their way or beat them. It's why they get so offended when ppl bring up other characters that can or can't beat the character they have projected onto.
Women and queer ppl focus on the emotion because we project ourselves and live our fantasies: to essentially breakdown (think female rage?) Essentially in our lives we are often the ones who do the emotional heavy lifting. Ones who are taught to keep quiet or be the bigger person or look the other way. Our emotions are used against us. But when we project ourselves to characters like gojo who has a ton on his shoulders, who has to do everything, we want him to breakdown and cry and rage cuz WE can't do that. It's our way of releasing our need to breakdown and rage, by living vicariously thru him. Often times after this breakdown we want another character to comfort them. For them to be the one to take care of things for once so our character (us) can take a break.
And I notice we project onto male characters and I think there's 3 reasons for this. Male characters are usually better written cuz they are at the focus of shonen so there's more of them we can attach ourselves to. 2nd reason is cuz they're male and it feels like they're "allowed" to emote without having backlash (tho that's not really the case usually. Like if gojo had a breakdown he wouldn't have been seen as weak or ridiculed but if someone else, usually a girl or a male written more softly like modoriya from mha, they would be ridiculed cuz thats "weak". All this would me coming from the men in the fandom too cuz they can't project onto a "weak" character) 3rd reason is cuz we can take a character that men would make into this "alpha man strong" and turn him human. Have him be realistic and have emotions, something we rarely see in real life cuz u know the patriarchy and men can't be emotional unless it's anger etc.
But anyways so that's what I have noticed and being a woman in fandom is a different experience. Usually a good one cuz fandom was created by women and we are the biggest fan content creators when it comes to Fanfic and fanart. Even some of the best analysis I've seen come from non-men. And I'm often on platforms where majority are women and queer and I curate my experience so when I get to places like tiktok or YouTube comments it's like my little bubble popping and I'm reminded of the different ppl in fandom. There are men on our sides of fandom with thinning more aligned to what I have described as what women usually think! But for this post I'm talking majority.
Anyways idk if this made sense but I wanna know what others think, I'm very interested and curious about this topic

Awesome ad from Always breaking gender stereotypes! A female is driving a car and needs to pull over to change her pad. Unfortunately, her car breaks down. A bunch of men run over to help but aren't very helpful and argue. Always Ultra protection gives the lady the confidence to take matters in her own hands and she fixes the car by herself faster than 6 men. The men are shocked but the lady smiles and is full of confidence.

I did an accidental social experiment about trans in bathrooms. It was very revealing.
I was recently in Stansted Airport (UK) and they've got this snail-shaped entrance to the bathrooms so as you come out of the ladies you have to turn left to leave or right to the men's. And there was A LOT of people so I got confused and as I came out I accidentally HEADED for the men's. Let me be clear I didn't even reach their door.
I was wearing a hoodie and a long coat plus face covering so I could've perfectly been a trans man, but immediately, not one, not two, but about five men all around me began shouting things like "wrong way!" "Men only!" "You're a girl!" So I immediately realised I'd turn the wrong way and left.
But then I sat thinking. Mine was a completely innocent mistake. It was only my second time in that airport, incredibly early morning, I was tired and turned the wrong way. But what if I HAD actually been trans, heading for the bathroom I felt most comfortable in? The men wouldn't have allowed. There were dozens there (peak time plus is right next to a rest area, drinking water fountain and near a bar) and no one shouted "shut up perhaps he's a boy!". On the contrary, even with how covered I was, I was correctly identified as a woman and multiple people made it very clear very loudly that the men's isn't my place, and that telling me so wasn't a bad thing. Even as I left some people kindly said "yours is right next, darling".
So it's not OK for women to enter the men's. Even if I had felt like a man. Men have a right to decide I don't belong there, let me know, and I must respect it.
So why isn't the same with women? Why can't women just as easily and naturally decide who they don't want there with no negative consequences?
Clue: misogyny.
