i don’t personally like it when heels are bigoted for heat and for being a villain - i think it brings a really uncomfortable vibe to wrestling - but wrestling is something that’s always reflected societal viewpoints and used them to create characters and especially villains. one of wrestling’s core components is catharsis - bad things happen to bad people in the end and justice is served. you can go into a lot of detail about how violence is used as justice in wrestling but i don’t think that’s relevant here - the arc of a heel wrestler should be that they hurt people and as a result experience hurt. so i can see a situation where a bigoted heel would work, but it would require the heel suffering for the hurt they’ve caused which… does not often happen in these kinds of storylines. and then you have the existing climate of wrestling and wrestling fans which is very much full of bigotry so people are going to agree with the shithead. which sucks.
