personally I feel like we really missed out on arc 3 with the other hivewing princesses and the other hives in general.
I would’ve loved to be able to picture Bloodworm more clearly than her just doing god knows what that made her basically have the title ‘Worst Hive Ruler Ever II’
#wings of fire#wof arc 3#hivewings#hivewing#wof bloodworm#i want to see how cruel she was#just a hint#wof#silkwings hated her#doubt the hivewings liked her much too#but i wanna know WHY

Bloodworm is a hivewing we hear more about and see the consequences of her rule through impact on other dragons (aka the unusually large Chrysallis group Grayling is part of in her hive) so whilst she has no particular description there's not nothing to go off of particularly with her sister wasp having some attributed description.

Coughs at Wings of Fire’s direction If only Tui realized that BEFORE writing arc 3
hey writers if you want to make a metaphor for racism, please maybe remember that racism is literally based on nothing. Africans weren’t enslaved en masse because the Robo-Musa threatened to destroy the world, they were enslaved because it was economically rewarding and politically convenient. If at any point your allegory for racism includes “so <oppressed group> did this major catastrophe and” then you have not only missed the point but you are literally reinforcing the ideas that racism have let racism self-perpetuate (that e.g. black people are naturally dangerous and violent and must be contained or begrudgingly accepted by the Nice White People)
#Seriously what was Tui thinking when it came to Bloodworm Hive???#I’ll just casually have the oppressed tribe commit TERRORISM AND MASS MURDER and then justify it in the narrative cause theres#AKSHUALLYYYYYYY child workers so its AKSHUALLYYYYYY okay!!!!#Tui botched her racism narrative SO BADLY#Wof#wings of fire#juni rants

Queen Wasp is probably one of the weakest wof villains imo, side by side with Battlewinner and Morrowseer in terms of pure evil and pure blandness.
In spite of being a teens' book, I do wished Tui made something outwordly with the hivewings, like a society nowhere near the Pyrrhian ones, a truly bug one, as much as I hate the idea of bug dragons, at least go full on the idea or enhance it in some imaginative way.
I thought of Wasp as a hulking giant, bigger than Burn or Oasis, side by side with Battlewinner and Morrowseer, as she is old, and more than that, she is a villain our heroes can not outsmart, for she is all the hivewings. She is a villain of strength, so they better show theirs.
So I present you a bit of my AU idea for Wasp, following my WoF AU where Burn and Blaze run the sand queendom.
The hivewings operate much like a hive, their queens release pheromones that somewhat control the will of their workers to pursue their goals, a trait they gained since the beetlewings (which btw, they are descendents of, but there was no Clearsight bs, they just split naturally).
Since the beetlewings' settlement of Pantala, they knew of a specific plant life of the local, called "breath of evil", after its effects. Long ago, the beetlewings had an ambitious queen, who challenged the status quo of the continent, so far peaceful. She inhaled the breath of evil and spread it over her population, its effects enhanced her pheromones' abilities until almost absolute control of her dragons, creating one gigantic organism that moved like one, a formidable army.
She was eventually defeated, but not before the remaining queens and the LeafWings settled into a sacred treaty to NEVER use such powers again.
History was doomed to be repeated.
As a minor queen of one of the hivewings' hives, Wasp, had broke the sacred treaty, believing the hivewings, considerably the newest inhabitants of Pantala, had no business obeying it. Wasp then conquered all the hivewing hives and proceeded to campaign against the rest of the continent, the Tree Wars.
Much like the last time, the Leafwings, Beetlewings and Silkwings battled Wasp. Although a cowardly queen Monarch accepted to submit, the rest refused. It was a total bloodbath, paranoic as ever, Wasp conducted a massive deforestation campaign by causing mass forest fires through Pantala, while her hivewing masses crashed against the Alliance with never seem brutality.
In the end, the Silkwings submitted, while LeafWings and BeetleWings fled north of the continent. Wasp was satisfied, with near total control of her population, she turned the once backwards little hive she inherented into a continental capital in the turn of 50 years, spreading more hives under her subordinates, enslaving the silkwings and exterminating all that stood in her path.
As of 5012 AS, Wasp is aware of an old continent to the East, her minions work day and night producing armors, weapons and supplies, readying a massive army that shall sweep across the post-war torn continent, until there's nothing left but the Hive.
Still, her control over the continent seemed more fragile than previously thought. As the chrysalis launched a full-blow revolt and burnt the Bloodworm hive, her plans are temporarily on halt. While the success of the rebels seems dim at best, a group of leafwing refugees have fled East to the new continent, bringing horrying news to a young icewing queen, who refuses to believe it, yet, she has grow past her prejudices, for the ice queendom will face the brunt of the Sunset Invasion.

Bloodworm Design
A fresh drawing with Bloodworm from the "Design meme" event, that is held in the ru WoF community. The event has just started, so I will be able to show arts of the others only in two weeks, when everything is finished)
I made such design because I was inspired by a picture of a scolopendra with blue legs (pic below). Scolopendra, because in the Russian version of the book, the character's name was translated as "Сколопендра" (Scolopendra), and not a "Мотыль" (Moth/Bloodworm), as it should be, idk why, but mb, because in Russian this name would not sound so threatening, well, because the word "Мотыль" is male.

Here's Poodle my wof Roblox oc thing. I based her off a poodle moth
Backstory:
Poodle was born and raised in the Jewel Hive by her parents Satin and Tupelo she always dreamed of being a model or a spinner but ended up being assigned to the Bloodworm Hive as a servant for a wealthy family. She ended up meeting the Bloodworm Hive Chrysalis and after a few years took up a leading position in the group.
She is charismatic and caring eventually joining the Silkwing council after Queen Wasp is dethroned. She has a deep love of art and fashion and helps start up Silkwing owned businesses to help fund the new kingdom
Edit: Retractable claws because why not

Day 4 of drawing random Wof dragons from the wiki…
Hemlock!
“Hemlock is an adult male LeafWing who was introduced in The Lost Continent. He has leafspeak and formerly served as a soldier for the PoisonWings. He helped orchestrate the Burning of Bloodworm Hive, along with Pokeweed, Grayling, and Bryony. He currently resides on Pantala. He is Sundew's father and Belladonna's partner.” -The WOF wiki.
Reblogs are appreciated!

Day 30 of @aleielle-of-roshar December Wof Deign Prompt
Day 30. This hivewing can actually control those they sting
Para, based on Parasitiod Wasps, has the ability to control everything she stings, from dragons to animals, she can control it all. She was born in Bloodworm Hive, and lived in Bloodworm’s personal floor of the hive because of how powerful she was. She was important in Bloodworm’s plan to overthrow Wasp and get rid of Silkwings. She hated Silkwings so much, the was no silk webs connecting straight to Bloodworm Hive. She had tal towers to the side of the Hive to act as supports for the silk webs. The towers were connected to the main part of the hive to act as a bridge for an entrance.

okay im too impatient to wait for the poll to end so im posting the revised list now (if you have suggestions or ideas lmk. i'll even take anonymous asks)
and for people who don't know/hardly know/can't remember, the scorpion den is kind of a small shady town in the kingdom of sand, typically populated with hybrid dragons/lower class/rogues & outlaws, and possibility is a different town i think on the line of the sky and the sand kingdom? populated by literally anybody
im grouping them by tribe so lets go
mudwings:
ezekiel
owen
tyler
sam
lightning
rodney
seawings:
bridgette
sky
rainwings:
cody
beth
izzy
mike
skywings:
heather
eva
chris
chef
topher
sandwings:
duncan (scorpion den)
trent (possibility)
brick (soldier of Burn)
beardo (possibility)
icewings:
courtney
justin
alejandro
dave
nightwings:
noah
gwen
leonard
scarlett
silkwings:
dj (vinegaroon hive)
dawn (cicada hive)
zoey (jewel hive)
ella (cicada hive)
hivewings:
lindsay (jewel hive)
geoff (jewel hive)
harold (mantis hive)
katie & sadie (jewel hive)
sierra (bloodworm hive)
cameron (mantis hive)
dakota (jewel hive)
staci (jewel hive)
leafwings:
leshawna ("sapwing")
b ("sapwing")
shawn ("poisonwing")
jasmine ("sapwing")
max ("sapwing") (calls himself a poisonwing)
hybrids:
scott (sandwing/mudwing) (scorpion den)
jo (skywing/sandwing) (scorpion den)
anne maria (sandwing/hivewing) (undetermined)
amy & sammy "samey" (hivewing/silkwing) (undetermined)
sugar (skywing/mudwing) (possibility)
a lot of them i sorted into certain ones just cause i felt it was the closest to their personality (hybrids i couldn't decide, so i just put both) but some i really just didn't know (sky and sam are examples of that). sorry for the abundance of jewel hive and severe lack of seawings, i kinda struggled with revising (and making) this jsabkdbsoqjkd
i also have no idea if this au will follow the wof plot/universe or the td universe?? that's kinda my main dilemma when it comes to my lack of ideas, cause i guess i could do both (and come up with altered/new challenges for the td universe) but idk
so yeah :3

I get the idea (and I'm sorry if I missed the point and am dropping an essay on you) but I complain about this because of missed potential.
The HiveWings ARE poorly written and rather terrible stand-ins for white people during times of oppression. However, I bring up Bloodworm Hive as an example due to the fact that this should be a more dramatic event. It's not. It's brushed over in canon as quickly as possible.
Arc 3 is a mess of half-baked ideas and themes. It jumps from racism and rebellion to...whatever it was in the ladder half. YES the HiveWings are awful and terrible, but Bloodworm Hive feels like something that should've been more, you know? It feels like it was potential for serious drama.
Imagine if like. Chicago burned down in a fire stared by protest riots. The flames claimed thousands of lives and injured many more. Who is the good guy here? Yeah, there's definitely corruption in the city, but to take an action as drastic as burning it all down, knowing that there's thousands of people who are innocent and don't deserve such a fate...is that really a good idea?
Arc 3 lacks a lot of nuance. Stuff just. happens and then is brushed aside. Tui strings us along as and paints the HiveWings out as if they aren't "all bad" when really like 99% of the ones we see that aren't on the good guy's side are very. bad.
Yet, I can't help but look at Bloodworm Hive as an event that should've happened in a better book. The guilt that would claw away at one's mind. Was this a good choice? Were the lives of hundreds being claimed in the smoke and fire meaningful? Or was it terrorism? Are they any better for killing them?
I wish arc 3 was better. I wish the HiveWings weren't so blatantly evil and racist. I wish we got nuance. I wish Bloodworm Hive wasn't swept under the rug so quickly. I just wish the books were...more mature and tried to handle the story it was attempting to tell with grace and care.
It looks hypocritical for one to go: "All HiveWings in WoF are so racist and mean" and then say: "But what about Bloodworm Hive", but trust me it's a bit less...that. My thoughts are messy and cluttered and disorganized. Several of them seem to conflict with the other (and they oftentimes do), but I don't think it's that bad with these examples.
Hey you guys remember how Bloodworm Hive (a giant city with potentially thousands of dragons living in it) burned down with only the SilkWings being evacuated? Potentially hundreds of deaths? Yeah. Remember how it was utterly sidelined and ignored afterwards? Yeah. Good times.
