Thinkin about how in Bloodborne everyone is too concerned with the werewolfisms and oldgodisms to bother asking what the living fuck is going on with those grannies on Hemwick Lane

Soulstober Stories Part 2:
Slowly getting used to Bloodborne's gameplay now, as I move onto the Cathedral and beyond.
4. Vicar Amelia
Again, I'd heard of Amelia, but wasn't sure what to expect, so I absolutely loved her transition from human to beast form! She introduced sweeping floor attacks, making staying on top of her tricky, but I learned to keep my distance and look for the right opening to attack.
Dealing with her healing during the second phase was... trying, at first. At least numbing mist helped somewhat during my second playthrough!
5. Witch of Hemwick
I'd forgotten exactly why the Witches gave me so much trouble (aside from there being two), but as I looked up references, I remembered the endlessly spawning Mad Ones & that they could revive each other if you didn't kill them quickly enough. Such relief when it was over! 馃槶
6. Darkbeast Paarl
The Darkbeast was fun! Challenging, but not frustrating and I love the blue lightning design. Once I applied some bolt resistance, it became more a test of my reflexes, with its quick, cat-like movements. It certainly made up for the shock of being beaten and dragged to the gaol! 馃槀
(I did *not* enjoy the Loran variant in the Chalice Dungeons. It's a lot more powerful and aggressive and if you try to lock on, the camera can prove more deadly than the boss! That music is permanently etched into my brain. 馃槶 )

The Witch of Hemwick teaches you Insight
Yeah so Bloodborne has a thing about eyes. Eyes are insight, the ability to see is thematically incredibly important to the game - get enough insight points, which are denoted an eye, and you'll start to perceive the world beyond that which is merely mundanely visible.
And so it's appropriate that the Witch - or witches - of Hemwick have a bossfight that revolve around their ability to turn invisible. In fact, if you enter the fight with zero insight it becomes incredibly easy, because you are required to have a certain amount of insight to even perceive and be affected by the monsters they summon to fight you.
It's also noteworthy the scholarly scientists of Byrgenwerth are running around all excited about their discovery of the power of eyes and eyeballs, while out in the Charnel Lane, pretty clearly, there's this coven of old eyeball-covered Witches who figured this stuff out a while ago. One more small knock against the arrogant self-regard of Byrgenwerth's scholars, I suppose, their vain certainty that they could learn to control an irrational universe with science. The Witches, for what it's worth, seem substantially more in control of the otherworldly powers they commune with than the Byrgenwerth alumni.

So I know you asked for character prompts but uh, locations? Perchance a Hemwick? Prithee, a Witch's Abode that is clearly a large dilapidated manor house, if ya nasty???
I been having lots of suspicions about Hemwick and the Witch(es) therein lately, lmao. Very interested to hear what other people think.
As is the case of much of the game, the level design of Hemwick Charnel Lane very much (understandably) prioritizes function over from, which does leave places like the Witches of Hemwick's boss arena as a wide open room without much determinate purpose.
"dilapitated manor house" I think is a possible candidate for what the building is meant to be, the manor where whomever was likely in charge of the area lived, before it was left largely abandoned and neglected like much of the rest of Hemwick.
However, with the name of the location, and the graveyard that lines the path, what's more fitting than for the "Charnel" in said name to be referring to a charnel house? Though, there's a lot less bones than one would expect for such a place.

First try not even attempting to do so I beat the Witches of Hemwick. The boss run was harder than the boss.

Funniest thing abt micolash is that when you forget his fandom characterization as the teheheeeeh weird quirky guy he's actually pretty terrifying and one of the most morally corrupt people in the lore

A frustrating bit about the idea that Yurie is called the last scholar because of her having been one of the OG Byrgenwerth squad is her visible age.. Willem was already a sluggish ancient self even in Laurence's flashback and is still alive, for all we know the time in Byrgenwerth really has stopped as 95% of it is drifting between reality and Nightmare, but.. why at the expense of some wrinkles :pensive:
Would just be pretty great if she looked like a 50+ years old! (around 20 as Byrgenwerth scholar and at least 30 years since then because if Hunter's Dream has about 360 gravestones, it means 360 full moons ie at least 30 years of it existing) But, I guess it IS just a version?
