He kept the scientist close to him. Sci was Nightmare's greatest weapon against this AU, but he could not keep himself safe. Not here with a type of magic that would seek to destroy him to keep itself from being discovered.

With how early it was, the Toriel was in her home. She was awake, though, as she could be seen moving past one of her windows. Seeing that made Nightmare smile, as that was convenient. If she was awake, he would not need to wait too long for her to answer the door.

"Alright, little lab rat. It is time for us to meet the witch," Nightmare mused as he started towards the door, dragging Sci along behind.

Ever so politely, as his standards are, he knocked and waited per the social norm for her to open the door. Being proper should keep the tension down as much as possible, at least long enough to take her by surprise. Thankfully, she followed her part in this custom cautiously and answered. Unfortunately, she balked the moment she saw him and started slamming the door.

"How rude," Nightmare mused as his tentacles sped forward, keeping it from closing and forcing it back open. Perhaps he used too much force, as it did cause her to stumble back, but he honestly didn't care. He would not be a kind guest if she did not play hostess.

Fear

Good. Let her feel fear for the fear he has been experiencing about the health and safety of his boys. The witch was so focused on him, in general, she failed to notice anything else he was doing. How foolish. He curled a tendril around her ankle to keep her from fleeing and actively feed on that fear. It fueled him and allowed him to grow equal to her height.

A wicked grin grew over his face, keeping the fear he drew out from ending.

"Greetings, Toriel," He said darkly.

The witch summoned up her fire magic, naturally. Of course, she would; fire is natural to most Toriels. She snarled, smoke curls drifting up from her nostrils, "Get out, you horrible creature!"

"Tsk, tsk~," Nightmare teased. "Is that any way to speak to your guests?"

Before she could use her fire magic, he pulled her ankle that he was holding and unbalanced her. It caused her to drop the fireballs she had summoned. They shattered into glittering specks of spent magic as her position. For the moment, she was also defenseless as it was difficult for her to focus on any more attacks.

How amusing; she was still standing.

If Sanses didn't fill every corner of the multiverse, the strength of the others would be more noticed. Toriels, Agores, Undynes, even Alphyses... No one of those characters, or others, should be dismissed as weak.

Regardless, her still standing against him just would not do, so he continued to pull until she did fall. "Now listen here, Witch, you have no right to threaten me. My men were simply scouting your AU, but you dared to throw a potion on them. You will tell my friend here what you did, and I may just let you live."

Sci flinched at that and peeked around Nightmare to look into the dark skeleton's eyelight. "whoa, nightmare, i think… i mean… there's no need to kill her."

"Oh? Do you hear that, one of the ancient spells?" She was trying to stand, but he would not allow that and lifted her up by her leg. There was an angry growl from her, but it kept her distracted by trying to keep her dress from flipping and stay modest. "The little scientist wants to spare you. How cute~. Now talk before my patience runs any thinner than it already is." Nightmare snarled while giving her a slight shake.

"Your men are dangerous! And they serve an evil being," She glowered up at Nightmare, and he sighed. "They deserved worse!"

"Can I kill her now, little lab rat?" Nightmare inquired of Sci, though he didn't mean it. What purpose would he have in killing her? No, her being alive was more beneficial to him. But he wanted to keep her fearful of him and look to Sci as her advocate. Sci's naivety towards the true nature of Nightmare added to this facade.

"n-nightmare… i… i can't help them if she is dead," Sci stepped forward and did as Nightmare hoped.

"Fine," Nightmare said, calming his voice as he lowered her to the floor.

Sci knelt down and freed her ankle. "i was given a sample of your potion to assess, and nightmare, guardian of negative emotions, is eager for me to reverse its effects. those… dangerous skeletons are important to him, and… they have helped me in the past with various things."

"Then you have thrown your lot in with them!" She yelled and moved to strike him. Sci was too close to block and not in the position to dodge. Unlike his boys, Sci was as delicate as the typical Sans, and Nightmare would not tolerate him dying on this mission. So, the Guardian grabbed her wrist with a tendril before she could turn the scientist to dust.

Sci scurried back, sockets wide as he realized how close to death he was. She summoned her fire magic again, and Nightmare used his other tentacles to grab her other limbs and pin her down. Other tendrils emerged from his back to swat the fire magic to destroy the attacks. He could feel the burn, but it would not last as it lacked the positive energy to cause him real harm.

"Do not lower your guard around her. Now, shall I hold her down, and you can show her the scientific version of what she did to my men?" Nightmare mused darkly.

"YOU EVIL, VILE CREATURE!" Screamed the Toriel as she tried to pull herself free.

"nightmare, please. thank you for saving me, but the threats aren't helping," Sci sighed and looked at Toriel. "he isn't evil… wouldn't call him good either. but if you hurt those in his care, he will act evil. and… they are nicer than they seem as well... his men, that is. you don't have to trust them, but we can make a deal or something."

"Absolutely not. If word gets out that I am willing to make a deal with anyone who threatens or harms them, there will be a target on their backs," Nightmare snapped. "What I can say is that I would normally feel inclined to destroy the AU of anyone who hurt them. If she tells you how to fix what she did, I will let her and everyone else in this disgusting world live!"

And that threat, he did mean.

There was a pause, and she finally looked right at Sci, "Fine, just tell the walking tar pit to let me go."

"I will, so long as you promise not to threaten my little friend again. Is that clear?" Nightmare said calmly.

"I promise," she growled out as she glared at Nightmare.

There was no hint of feelings of trickery or deceit. Still, Nightmare kept watch as he didn't trust her. That, and he didn't bring Sci along for him to get hurt, after all.

I was going to draw him as a vampire but then I was like hey. Yknow whats cooler than a vampire?? A half-vampire vampire hunter.

I don't actually know anything about Castlevania but I do know the outfits fuck SO hard.

Also take some more stuff because I had that idea then went. yknow what else would be funny? Matching costumes.

Frisk was the one who chose the costumes for everyone after they watched The Wizard of Oz.

They insisted on being the scarecrow.

Papyrus' boots end up bedazzled. He ends up having sparkly boots for a few months after this and he secretly loves it.

MKs costume is actually just Papyrus' chestplate painted over with metallic paint.

Kids still have to have stripes even when in costume, so they also went over the metallic paint with marker afterwards.

Everyone was scared that Toriel would take offense to being assigned the Wicked Witch but she LOVED it. Nobody knows how she dyed her fur green, but it was back to normal the next day.

Elsewhere, Undyne and Alphys are dressed as those two girls from Utena. I also don't know anything about Utena but it feels like something they'd do.

ALSO. I think that Sans would laugh at Pap being Dorothy until he is given his own costume:

My design for Toriel’s Dark World outfit! I wanted to go for the same witch type design that Ralsei has. Maybe she could even be assigned to be some kind of ruler /in charge of something in the new world…

It’d be a cool call back to her role in undertale :o

Not against shipping sci and witch! toriel. Even better. What would night think? lol

First, I do see it as starting as pure friendship. Sci is the one to reach out to her because he sees stuff he is now curious about and wants to learn more. It bothers her at first, until he shares with her, showing how her magic and science and work together. Nightmare finds this all amusing and takes Sci to see her and delivers the cell phone.

As... they start building a relationship... Nightmare is not sure what to think. He doesn't like this witch!Toriel, after all. Yet... it is amusing, and Sci is learning things that might help Nightmare in the long run... So, he will allow it... for now.

Killer (and low-key Dust) tease him about being a matchmaker. That, Nightmare is not amused by.

Dropping this DW Toriel design before Deltarune Chapter 3 releases

Made her a witch bc I saw some other designs of her and I liked that concept (hopefully you can see the witch in her… maybe it’s just the hat tho…)

I added the stars on her cape/cloak bc it was night when Kris opened the dark world and idk I just wanted to add more

The color pallet is just a personal preference but I guess I could say that her tealish color is similar to her pjs. I did test some purples and blues but I wasn’t rlly satisfied (I’m sure I had some versions of a more purplish version but I can’t find it)

Decided on giving her glasses but didn’t cuz it looked a lil like Ralsei

Anyway I rlly enjoy this design and hope u do as well <3

Toriel in the Dark World! (V2)

My (new) take on Toriel's design in the Dark World. Since she's gonna be in Chapter 3 and Chapter 3 has a TV theme going on she's a chef, but she's also a witch because of course she is.

Here is a comparison with my old sprites:

I swear to Glob when I was making the old sprites I specifically remember looking at Toriel's sprites at the end of CH2 and noticing that she doesn't have shoes and glasses... But turns out she does!!! I have no idea what happened there.

Story!

In this AU, when the barrier was created one of the mages was a witch in disguise and cast a curse with the barrier. The curse made it impossible for any monsters to live quietly, everyone was forsed to live with their fears.

The main cast -

Sans's Story...

Sans and his brother Papyrus aren't normal monsters. Gaster created the two in hopes of creating a way for him to be remembered forever, he got his wish, in possibly the worst way.

Shortly after creating the brothers, Gaster fell into the core, being broken across time and space, being almost completely forgotten. However... one remembered... Sans.

Sadly the brothers succumbed to the curse like every other monster, this twisted Sans' memory of Gaster, turning him from a kind but mad scientist, into an eldritch horror that lurks in the dark, creating Sans' fear. since then Sans fears any dark corner, alleyway, or even dimly lit rooms, constantly fearing his imaginary beast would be there and attack him.

Skipping through his story a bit... (Don't worry I'll make sure to make a proper story for this AU at a later date)

The origin of his markings!

One day, Sans was approached by an oddly familiar monster... it looked like him, but they were wearing a brown scarf, lab coat, long white pants with black stripes down the side, and their eyes had an almost hypnotic cycle of colors, before Sans could realize what was happening, he was in an unfamiliar place, and trapped with purple chains. The monster that he saw was standing in front of him, holding his soul... (look through my blog to find out who this unknown monster was)

After this, he was forced to work with this monster no matter what, being given markings to remind him that he has no free will, and will forever be nothing but a servant. These markings also came with a name change, Shadow Tag, or simply Tag. He was also given new powers, shadow flames.

These flames could be colder than almost anything you could imagine, or even as hot as almost anything you can imagine, and anywhere in-between. The flames also had another use, Sans could attach a small flame to a part of something, or someone, and be able to track the exact location, anywhere within the multiverse.

Undertale Voice Musings + Choir

Fact: I am a huge choir nerd.

Fact: Back in like 2019, I made a soundfont using the Undertale characters' voice blips, and recently re-made that soundfont to work better, creating things like this:

This one is "Your Fault" from Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods. Featuring Asriel as Jack, Sans as The Baker, Shyren as Cinderella, Gaster as Little Red Riding Hood, and Temmie as The Witch.

In addition to making a soundfont that just re-pitches the blips as they exist in-game, I also made one that loops a portion of the sound so the notes can be sustained, which means I can make cool choir pieces like these:

This one is "Dunkelian Lullaby," a choir piece I composed a while back. If you like this one, I do plan on selling the sheet music for it on MusicaNeo as Eila Mirlen! Keep an eye out for it there ;)

This one is "Love is Love is Love is Love," by Abbie Betinis, from the Justice Choir Songbook. If you're a choir nerd or a teacher looking for free, accessible, quality music, I would definitely check it out!

Anyway, the fun part is that if you listen closely, even in the sustained soundfont, you may be able to pick out the characters' individual voices. For example, Sans and Gaster tend to be pretty loud. Flowey and Temmie are also pretty obnoxious (I have them turned way down in the last example, but they should be in your right ear.)

Some Notes on Ranges

The thing about these guys is that they are... not real and literally just cool synthesizers, so technically they can sing in any range. However, like with voices, they do have ranges they sound the best in and��related specifically to this soundfont I made—here are my notes about where I would place each character in a choir! (Note that I often break these assignments when I arrange choir stuff with these guys just because the number of characters on each part is out of balance otherwise.)

Temmie and Gaster have the largest ranges, being able to sing 5 octaves (although Gaster cheats and goes back down the octave sometimes, like a Shepard tone—I’ve futzed with his voice enough already and don’t feel like fixing it). Temmie’s 5 octaves, surprisingly, starts an octave lower than Gaster’s. (Damn, Temmie.)

Shyren, Mettaton, and Undyne are close behind. They can each sing 4 octaves; Shyren’s range sits one octave higher than Mettaton and Undyne’s.  (Admittedly, Undyne’s very low range sounds a lot like burps, but it’s very strong anyway.)

Toriel, Asgore, Asriel, Flowey, and Alphys have a large range of 3 octaves, Asgore starting lowest, then Flowey, then Asriel and Toriel and Alphys.

Sans and Papyrus have the smallest ranges, at 2 octaves, and they are exactly the same.

NOTE: technically—being synthesizers—all of them can sing past these given ranges. But at the low end they tend to sound burpy and bad, and at the very high end they might be too quiet to be worthwhile.

Ideal Ranges:

Note: many of them can sing in multiple ranges—as seen above—but these are the ones I put them in most often based on where their original voice clips sit (the root) AND the vibes they give me (with some exceptions).

Alphys: Alto - root = F4

Asgore: Bass – root = E3

Asriel: General Treble (tend towards soprano range) – root = A-A♭4

Flowey: General Treble (tend towards mezzo range) – root = E4

Gaster: Baritone/Tenor – root = all over the place because I used 7 different clips for him. Most of the fun timbre switching happens in the two octaves between C3 and C5.

Mettaton: Baritone/Tenor (tend towards tenor range) – root = E♭4

Papyrus: Baritone/Tenor (He CAN sing in a lower range, but it’s not quite as nice as the higher range) – root = E♭4

Sans: Tenor/Countertenor (controversially, I might add. IDK, he can sing in a low range but IMO it sounds... bad, especially when he’s not sustaining the notes because then he just sounds like he’s burping. Actually, for that reason I usually stick him on alto parts) – root = E-E♭4 (you could argue I have the octave wrong, but even then, his root is E-E♭3 and I would still probably stick him more in the tenor range than the bass range—pitches lower than his root sound... not very good. I think he just has a very resonant voice.)

Shyren: Soprano – root = B♭4

Temmie: Soprano – root = G4 (with the caveat that if she’s not sustaining notes, the mezzo-range is stronger for her)

Toriel: Soprano/Mezzo – root = E♭4 (I try to put her and Asriel on different parts because *technically* their voices are exactly the same; Toriel’s speaking voice in-game is just lower. I did add some vibrato to Toriel’s voice to help a little.)

Undyne: Alto/Contralto – root = B♭3

Other Notes:

Asriel sounds good staccato but is really pitchy when asked to hold a note. (I went back and fixed this. But now it’s a headcanon that he can’t hold a pitch any better than your average human child can, I guess.)

Gaster’s sustained low range is also incredibly pitchy. A little sharp, maybe, up until A3. (I fixed this, too. He also no longer jumps octaves in the middle of his range for no reason.)

Papyrus is also INCREDIBLY pitchy when sustaining notes. (This got fixed. But now the headcanon is that he’s maybe a little tone-deaf, or maybe he just gets overexcited and pushes himself sharp or flat.)

Sans actually sounds like… a lot BETTER when sustained, throughout his range because it no longer has the quality of a burp.

Shyren’s voice is strong but her major scale sounds minor when she sustains notes and its weird??? Very flat. (This was also an error on my part, because my tuning skills are bad at 9 o’clock at night. Maybe she tends to fall flat when she’s nervous.)

Temmie sounds good no matter what range. A little trumpet-like, though, and can be overpowering.

Toriel also sounds really good sustained and a lot stronger. She’s still pretty quiet tho.

Alphys’ high range is stronger when sustained.

Undyne’s fine. Weaker in the high range in general.

Flowey is LOUD and OBNOXIOUS.
