Two events
I got the events mixed up… I thought I would have more time on IkePri, so I read William's event on IkeVil, and was late to read Mathias' story. I had more than enough points… I'm so upset right now…
...
...
Well, what's done is done. What's the point of wailing?
William's story is so hot. What else did I expect from this title? So I will definitely make a summary. Only Harry was left… I hope I don't get the time wrong again…

Hetalia Human Names
NOTE: This is my personal interpretation and the names may diverge from canon and established fanon. Also I might update this every so often to make it more accurate, depending on the information I find.
Table of Contents
The Main Characters
Western Europe
Northern Europe
Eastern Europe
Southern Europe
Western Asia
South Asia
East Asia
Southeast Asia
Oceania
Micronations
Former nations
The Main Characters
Italy Veneziano: Feliciano Vergano
I chose the name Vergano instead as it keeps the essense of the original surname, but is actually Italian.
Italy Romano: Lovino Vergano
Germany: Ludwig Beilschmidt
Japan: Kiku Honda
Prussia: Gilbert Beilschmidt
America: Alfred Franklin Jones
I like the headcanon of his middle name being "Freedom", but Franklin is my personal favourite.
England: Arthur James Kirkland
I came across this in a fic a while back and never looked back. This man needs a middle name.
France: Francis Bonnefoy
Russia: Ivan Braginsky
China: Yao Wang
Canada: Matthew Williams
Western Europe
Austria: Roderich Edelstein
Belgium: Laura Janssens
Liechtenstein: Erika Vogel
Luxembourg: Henri Janssens
I've also used the name Gabriel before, but it doesn't seem to be used much in Luxembourg, so Henri would be more fitting.
Monaco: Louise Bonnefoy
The name Louise and it's masculine variant, Louis, appear a few times in the Monaguesque royal family.
Netherlands: Willem Janssens
Willem appears a few times in the Dutch royal family, and it sounds a bit older than other suggested names, which reflects his age and general vibes imo. I really like this name.
Switzerland: Sebastian Zwingli
Personally I see his name "Basch" as a nickname for Sebastian. It's also easy to adapt to his official languages: Sebastian/Sébastién/Sebastiano. The Romansh variant would be Bistgaun, but the archaic version seems to be Bastgaun, which is more similar to Basch. I headcanon that he goes by the name "Basch" in all languages to make it more cohesive.
Northern Europe
Denmark: Mathias Rasmussen
I'm from Scandinavia myself and I don't know if it's widespread, but I've heard people say "all Danish people are named Rasmus" more than once, so I like to incorporate that into his surname.
Estonia: Eduard Kaasik
Around 50% of Estonia is covered in forest, and one of the most common tree types is birch. Kaasik is a common surname and means "birch forest".
Finland: Timo Väinämöinen
Iceland: Eiríkur Steinsson
Steinsson means "son of Stein (given name meaning stone)",. Also Emil isn't traditionally Icelandic, but it's widely used. Personally though, I prefer the name Eiríkur.
Latvia: Raivis Bērziņš
The surname Galante corresponds with the modern Latvian opera singer Inese Galante, but I couldn't find anything to suggest it's commonly used or that it's Latvian at all. Bērziņš is one of the most used Latvian surnames and means "birch tree", like Estonia's surname. Personally, I don't see the Baltics as siblings, but I think this would be a cute reference.
Also, based on what I read, surnames became common in Latvia around the 19th century, with Bērziņš being one of them. Latvia could have picked up whatever the people around him (Estonia) was using and made it his own.
Lithuania: Tolys Laurinaitis
Norway: Sigurd Bondevik
Sweden: Berwald Oxenstierna
Eastern Europe
Belarus: Natalya Arlovskaya
Bulgaria: Mihail Petrov Isporov
Isporov is the family name and is derived from an alternative name of Asparukh, the first king of the First Bulgarian Empire.
Czech: Tereza Novakova
Hungary: Erzsébet Hderváry
Moldova: Marcel Popescu
Poland: Feliks Łukasiewicz
Romania: Vladislav Popescu
Slovakia: Jozef Novak
Ukraine: Iryna Chernenko
Southern Europe
Greece: Herakles Karpusi
Portugal: João Silva Ferreira
Spain: Antonio Fernandez Carriedo
Western Asia
Cyprus: Stasinos Karpusi
Stasinos was one of the first European poets who wrote the epic poem Cypria.
Turkey: Sadiq Adnan
TRNC: Tarkan Adnan
South Asia
India: Rajesh Thakur
East Asia
Hong Kong: Leon Wang / Wong Kulung
Macau: Chen Wang
South Korea: Im Yong-soo
Taiwan: Mei Lin
Southeast Asia
Thailand: Prasert Chakri
Vietnam: Lien Nguyen
Africa
Cameroon: Emmanuel Mawdo Ahidjo
Many of the most commonly used forenames in Cameroon are of French or English origins, such as Emmanuel.
Mawdo means ‘elder’ in Fulfulde.
Ahidjo refers to the first president of Cameroon.
Egypt: Gupta Muhammad Hassan
Seychelles: Michelle Mancham
Americas
Cuba: Carlos Machado Rodríguez
Oceania
Australia: Daniel Kirkland
New Zealand: Zachary Kirkland
Micronations
Hutt River: Christopher Kirkland
Kugelmugel: Leopold Edelstein
Ladonia: Erland Oxenstierna
Molossia: Jacob Jones
"JJ" :)
Sealand: Peter Kirkland
Seborga: Romeo Vergano
Okay listen. I have no explaination, I just really like this name. Also, if the names of the trio is Peter, Wendy, and Romeo, they're all named after characters from literature. I think that's fun.
Wy: Wendy Kirkland
Former Nations
Ancient Egypt: Neferure
References the only biological child of Hatshepsut.
Ancient Greece: Helene
Ancient Rome: Marcus Valerius Maximus
Marcus is the praenomina (given name) and refers to how Romulus and Remus were said to have been twins of Mars, the god.
Valerius is the nomen gentilicium (hereditary name) and means “to be strong”.
Maximus is the cognomen and means “the greatest”.
Germania: Alaric
Holy Roman Empire: Otto Beilschmidt
Personally I like the idea that HRE and Germany aren't the same person, but share the same body.

The Field Building, Chicago
by Roger Jones
June 19, 2024
Tumblr media
Two views of the Field Building, c. 1930
The field building, 135 S. LaSalle St., Chicago, was built 1928 - 1934, and designed by Graham, Anderson, Probst & White. Built by the estate of department store founder Marshall Field, it was the last major office building completed prior to a two-decade construction hiatus caused by the Great Depression and World War II. Its site formerly was occupied by the Home Insurance Building (1884), designed by William Le Baron Jenney.
Built at a cost of $12 million, the building featured 43 floors, and height of 163.1 m / 535 ft, and a surface of 111 484 m² / 1 200 000 ft. upon completion. It had entrances on both Lasalle and Clark Streets. The Field Building has also been known as the LaSalle National Bank Building, or Bank of America Building.
The building also featured 42 high-speed elevators, advanced technology at the time. Other innovations included polished aluminum window frames, radiant heat, dual elevators sharing one shaft, and pure drinking water delivered to drinking fountains in each office. The first and second floors were connected by escalators.
The building was designated a Chicago Landmark on February 9, 1994.

135 S. LaSalle, Solomon Cordwell Buenz
A distinctive moderne structure, the building's stripped-down design features smooth surfaces, limited ornament, and clean lines.
Straight vertical lines give the building a look as new as 1959. The main exterior material is limestone. The [lower] entrances made extensive use of white bronze and black granite, also with a complete lack of extraneous detail. As far as materials and craftsmanship are concerned, another Field building may never be built, architects say. The cost would be prohibitive. Three kinds of marble were used in the vast lobby arcade and corridors - white, from Vermont; a green variety, from Italy; and a delicately toned tan marble, also from Italy. The Field building took the entire output of the quarry producing the tan marble. It is irreplaceable, said Palmer. All the marble was cut and laid so that the patterns match from one slab to another. Source: Fuller, Ernest, "Famous Chicago Buildings," Chicago Tribune, January 3, 1959

Graham, Anderson, Probst & White
The Chicago firm of Graham, Anderson, Probst & White was founded in 1912 originally as Graham, Burnham & Co., as the successor tot the D.H. Burnham Company. In 1917, the Burnhams left the firm, and Graham and the others, (William) Pierce Anderson, Edward Mathias Probst, and Howard Judson White formed the subsequent firm.
The firm got the majority of the big commissions from 1912 to 1936, including iconic buildings such as the Wrigley Building, Merchandise Mart, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Civic Opera House, and the old main U. S. Post Office. They also designed built the Terminal Tower in Cleveland and Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City.
It was the largest architectural firm under one roof during the first half of the twentieth century, its closest rival being the firm of Holabird and Root.
Architectural historian Carl Condit commented on the Field Building: "Graham, Anderson, Probst, and White turned their backs once and for all on the past and produced a Sullivanesque skyscraper stripped down to essentials, a dense array of uniform vertical limestone bands, topped by a horizontal spandrel that simply marks the outer face of the parapet at the roof."

born on one cold day in the month of january (1/14/1991).
he's always been a huge fan of is MMA fighting, it's a sport he and his grandfather would watch every saturday when there was one on. he studied their moves, made his notes, and told himself that one day he was going to be one of them. he promised himself.
his dream seemed to be off to a good start as he began hitting the gym more, staying as much out of trouble as he could, and even began to train. his father was very supportive, always pushing him to go the extra mile. his mother was constantly worried for his safety, overall, she also supported him just as much.
every match he had the guy would fight as if it were his last. he didn't lose often, but he did have his loses. he had plenty of rivals and he loved them for it. in his opinion, they were a reason to push his training even more. his favorite rival, however, was sudesh basra. for some reason, he always enjoyed pushing his buttons.
unfortunately, trouble came rearing its ugly head around the corner. one night, at around 2am, he went out to pick up a friend who claimed they were too drunk to drive. what they didn't tell him was they were planning on robbing a home of someone they had been keeping an eye on for a couple of days and needed a scapegoat; something mathias ended up becoming. he refused to confess the truth and ended up paying the price for it by serving 6 years in jail.
he leaned on his family a lot while he was serving time. thankfully, it seemed like a lot of them believed his innocence. his time in jail wasn't the best or the worst. he had made some friends, though he favored angelo cortes out of all the jail mates he met. sometimes he would get in trouble for fighting, but for the most part he tried to do his time as peacefully as possible.
he was twenty-six when he got out of jail (just turned 20 when he got in) and instead of going back to hemlock springs, mathias headed towards new york city. he lived in nyc for a total of two years before he up and left to do a bit of van life.
eventually he made it back to hemlock springs. he sold his van, got a place in riverside, and settled down in hemlock springs again. he's been back for a year now. so far, if you ask him, he's done a pretty good job at keeping out of trouble. if you don't count the occasional drunken bar fight.

10 questions for 10 writers
the beloved @arokel tagged me aaages ago and i'm finally doing it yayyy!
1. Is writing a hobby or a way of life?
a hobby i think. i do write a lot and it's a big part of my life but i wouldn't define myself as a writer you know? i'm just someone who writes :)
2. A journal full of notes or a clean completed manuscript?
journal full of notes!! i usually get tiny snippets of Disjointed Scenes stuck in my head and i recently realised that if i wrote them out i could. come back to them later if i wanted instead of forgetting them like a cool person. so i'm doing that in my notes app for now. but theoretically i'm all for a clean manuscript i'm literally incapable of writing a fic out of order aside from my little notes
3. Who or what inspired your writing?
honestly this question is stumping me a little. i don't know? i've been writing and telling stories from a very young age and i never had Big Inspirations. i do have people who influence my style (see the three authors i mention in question 8....holy shit to be able to write like that) but inspiration? idk i don't think i'm even getting what kind of inspiration this is asking about.
4. Which is worse: Someone you ‘idolize’ reading your first draft or listening to you sing?
Definitely singing. i don't mind people i look up to reading my stuff! even if it could be improved!! but singing for an audience is horrible :)
5. Has writing from someone else’s POV changed your perspective?
i'm a very emotional person and experience everything all the time except for when i shut off and stop feeling at all for a bit. the latter is a rare occurrence and i'm generally all about emotions so writing my favourite oc who operates on a Very low emotional spectrum was (is) a really interesting experience. i have to put a lot of thought into how bella sees the world but i Love the way his brain works so he's always worth the effort and i'm thankful to him for showing me something new
6. Tumblr, AO3, LiveJournal, or FFN?
no wattpad....how quickly forget our dark history. anyway yeah it's ao3!!! i Love the way ao3 works i did Not learn to navigate FFN well enough (not for lack of trying btw) to ever really use it
7. AO3 word count? And are you satisfied with it?
137,805. i'm a notorious fic deleter so it's not representative of the amount i've written over the years but. yeah! i'm happy with that. i obviously want to write more but word count is one of the stats i care least about
8. What movie/book gripped you irrevocably?
for books it's either the hungarian selection aka Verhovina madarai by Bodor Ádám and Termőtestek by Sepsi László - two novels i think about literally all the time - or Tell Them of Battles, Kings, and Elephants by Mathias Énard which i keep recommending to LITERALLY everyone because it's so beautiful. btw read tell them of battles kings and elephants by mathias énard it's so beautiful. for movies i guess dead poets society? aesthetically & also its message is so beautiful and i love a robin williams film
9. What’s the highest compliment you could ever be given, and have you been given it?
i don't know!!! any compliment makes me happy. but i love hearing that people came back to reread multiple times. like omg!! welcome back i'm so glad my sillies are in your brain
10. What defines your writing style?
i like to think my descriptions are pretty definitive, i loooooove stacking adjectives and adverbs and stuff with hyphens and commas and ands and other verbal connective tissue i love describing things in very specific ways and i think my writing also has a unique rhythm because of how hungarian works and how that translates to english. but that's just inside my brain idk!! my writing might be the most generic shit to everyone else :]

GENERATION GASFUSS
by Oliver Kuhn for Playboy Germany, February 2002 (x)
Tumblr media
The best racing drivers in the world and their fast sons: why the speed gene is dominantly inherited.
That was bitter for Michael Schumacher. This underage kid overtook him twice. In the final of the 2001 karting world championship in Kerpen, Schumi was still just ahead in the end. But the message from Nico Rosberg, 17, was clear. In a few years, he wants to bring the Formula 1 World Championship home to the Rosberg clan. Like his father Keke once did.
There is no other sport in which passion is passed on from father to son as consistently as in the case of racing drivers. The racing gene is inherited in a dominant way. Already world champions Damon Hill, son of Graham (world championships ‘62 and ‘68), and Jacques Villeneuve, son of Gilles (world championship runner-up ‘79), advanced to become successful drivers. And the next generation is just growing up.
Mathias Lauda, 21, races in the Spanish Formula 200. Tomas Scheckter, 22, scion of Jody, races in the American Indycar championship. Nelson Piquet, 17, tries his luck in Brazil. All just warm-up exercises. They're all speculating on one of the lucrative spots in Formula 1.
Nico sat in a race car for the first time in April 2002. Just before his final exams. The first test took place in the rain, and the engine exploded during the second. It looked bad before the race in Hockenheim. "Watch out for the gray tracks, the rain has already dried there," father Rosberg whispered in his son's ear. One hour later, Keke heard his Finnish anthem: Nico started the season with a victory.
"I inherited the crazy from my father,” says Nico. Which means something like: the Rosbergs don't like to brake, they love risk. At least the male part does. Mother Sina has so far not watched a single race out of fear for her son. "It's logical that sons do the same as their fathers," says Keke dryly.
Tumblr media
Nico Rosberg had a lead of exactly 81 points after 20 races in the Formula BMW ADAC championship. The 17-year-old son of Formula 1 world champion Keke completed his A-levels on the side, signed thousands of autographs and claims that racing is Finnish.
Racing kids go straight from bobby cars to go-karts. As teenagers, they then buy into the junior classes. A Formula BMW car costs 45,000 euros, a season at least 200,000 euros, and a race track for testing purposes 10,000 euros a day. A minor accident in a corner not only puts a hole in the bodywork, but also in the cash. In addition to an engineer, mechanic, and truck driver, Nico also employs a computer scientist who evaluates the engine data.
Whereas in the past it was only driving talent that counted, today the quality of a media star is also decisive. Nico Rosberg looks a bit like Leonardo DiCaprio. This appeals to his main sponsor Viva and the music channel's target group: boys who want to become racing drivers and girls who adore them. "The girls are into racing drivers," Nico explored. After the race, he stands in front of the tent and signs his posters. Amused, he recounts how at one event a girl cried out in rapture, "I touched him."
Shortly before the end of the season at a race on the A1-Ring in Zeltweg. This time it goes wrong. 32 cars are driving. One is stationary. Nico is sitting in it. He got a stop & go penalty because he overtook a car despite a yellow flag (no overtaking). "It was too lame," says Nico and laughs. After all, he has an unassailable lead in the overall standings. No one can take the championship away from him.
This is the end-of-season reward: Nico is the youngest ever to test a Formula 1 car. The BMW Williams car. The first son has made it.
At the very back of the paddock, in the small tents, there are drivers who are supposedly much better than Nico. The father of one such talent is an engineer and mechanic in one. But there is not enough money for test drives. The mother grills sausages in front of the tent. The son is not particularly good-looking. The big career is not going to happen anytime soon. It's not easy not having a famous father.
