THOMAS: PACK AND BELLEVILLE LOCKUP IN CANADA
Tumblr media
BY: Alex Thomas, Hartford Wolf Pack  HARTFORD, CT – The Hartford Wolf Pack open the final leg of their season-long seven-game road trip tonight as they visit the Belleville Senators for the second and last time this season at CAA Arena. The tilt opens a stretch of three games in four days for the Pack, all against North Division opponents. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. Tale of The Tape: This is the fourth and final meeting during the 2021-22 regular season between the Wolf Pack and the Senators. The Senators skated to a 4-1 victory in the last meeting on April 1st at the XL Center. Maxim Letunov opened the scoring for Hartford just 23 seconds into the game, but Belleville would score the game’s final four goals. Jonathan Aspirot tied the contest 1-1 at the 12:34 mark of the first period on a delayed penalty, then Lassi Thomson rifled home the eventual winner at 14:55 on a five-on-three. Both Egor Sokolov and Logan Shaw tacked on powerplay goals as the Senators went three-for-five on the skater advantage. The Wolf Pack did take a 5-2 decision on March 19th in Belleville. Mike O’Leary broke a 2-2 tie 3:08 into the third period, while Patrick Khodorenko and Anthony Greco tacked on insurance markers in a three-goal third period. The Senators won the series opener on March 2nd in Hartford with a 3-2 overtime decision. Rourke Chartier scored twice, including the overtime winner, for the Senators. The visiting team is 3-0-0-0 in the season series. The Wolf Pack are 1-1-1-0 against the Senators in the season series. Wolf Pack Outlook: The Wolf Pack snapped a seven-game losing streak with a massive 4-3 victory over the Charlotte Checkers on Sunday afternoon at the Bojangles’ Coliseum. Zac Jones opened the scoring 1:45 into the game, but the Checkers would take a 2-1 lead on goals by Luke Henman and Zac Dalpe. Tanner Fritz tied the tilt at 18:46 of the first period before Greco made it 3-2 just 5:21 into the middle frame. Alexander True scored at 9:05 of the third to force overtime. In the extra frame, Letunov needed just 21 seconds to snap the streak. The win was also the first in franchise history for the Wolf Pack in Charlotte. The club was previously 0-15-1-0 in North Carolina. Greco leads the Pack in scoring with 56 points (19 g, 37 a) on the season. He collected his first four-point game (1 g, 3 a) as a member of the club in Sunday’s victory. Greco also leads the team in goals with 19. The Pack currently holds a record of 30-28-6-2, good for a .515 points percentage. That has Hartford in sixth place in the Atlantic Division, occupying the final playoff spot. Hartford’s magic number to clinch a Calder Cup Playoff berth is 10. Senators Outlook: On Monday night, the Senators suffered a 5-1 setback on home ice against the Laval Rocket. Cole Reinhardt opened the scoring 5:38 into the game to give the Sens a lead, but it was all Rocket after that. Danick Martel tied the game 1-1 just 3:05 into the second period, while Nicolas Mattinen scored his first AHL goal at 6:40 to break the tie. Martel would add a second goal, while Rafaël Harvey-Pinard and Kevin Roy would light the lamp in the third period. The loss was Belleville’s second in a row. Jake Lucchini leads the Senators with 46 points (20 g, 26 a) on the season. His 20 goals are also atop the club, while Zach Senyshyn sits second with 19 goals. The Senators currently hold a record of 33-27-4-0, good for a .547 points percentage. That has them in sixth place in the North Division, just outside of a playoff spot. The Senators currently have a magic number of 17 to clinch a Calder Cup Playoff berth. Game Information: WATCH: AHLTV The Wolf Pack’s seven-game road trip continues when they travel to Toronto to take on the Marlies on Friday night. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. The road trip concludes on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. when the Pack head to Rochester to take on the Americans. The Pack is back at the XL Center on Friday, April 22nd, to kick off the final weekend of the regular season! Join us for Pride Night as the Charlotte Checkers come to town. Thanks to our friends at Nomads, we’ll also have $2 beers and $1 hot dogs! The 2021-22 regular season concludes at the XL Center on Sunday, April 24th! Join us for Fan Appreciation Day when the Pack host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Puck drop is set for 3:00 p.m. Tickets are available for both games next weekend at hartfordwolfpack.com. Spiral staircase twists through Zellige apartment complex by Tectône and Tact Architectes
Zellige is a social housing complex in Nantes, France, designed in a collaboration between French architecture studios Tectône and Tact Architectes.
The 100-home housing project has been shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2020 and won the public vote in its category.
Three volumes are clad in matching brick
Tectône and Tact Architectes arranged the apartment complex as three interlocking volumes clad in pale grey bricks.
The pair of studios won the competition to design the housing development for the future neighbourhood of Prairie au Duc in 2014.
The housing complex contains 100 new homes
Zellige is located on the île de Nantes, an island in the middle of Nantes. This post-industrial area was largely abandoned in the 1990s, and the project is part of a wider plan to rejuvenate the district.
"This project is very impacted by the fact that it combines three very different housing programs, social rents, co-housing and to-buy apartments," said Tectône.
"It has been a long and very interesting design process that included its future inhabitants in every part of it, through workshops, discussions and votes."
A spiral staircase twists up one side
Some 15 of the 100 homes will be co-housing, and the occupants had already been chosen before the design process began.
Taking on board the feedback of Zellige's eventual residents, the two practices included spaces and facilities such as common spaces and terraces, a communal workshop and wash house, a vegetable garden and a shared chicken coop.
Pale wood balustrades contrast with the grey bricks
These communal spaces are either on top of the shorter volumes or arranged in a central courtyard formed in between the U-shaped complex.
An external spiral staircase with wooden balustrades add flair to the facade and allows occupants views over the complex and of each other as they move up and down between floors.
The project is part of a plan to rejuvenate the island
The brick facade is uniform to tie the three volumes, which are four, six and twelve floors respectively, together.
As Nantes is in a seismic activity zone, Tectône and Tact Architectes worked with brick supplier Blockstar to develop anti-seismic brick technology.
Residents helped decide on the designs they wanted
Tectône, a studio based in Paris, previously designed housing blocks in the French capital wrapped in timber louvres.  Tact Architectes is based in Nantes.
More Dezeen Awards 2020 public vote winners include Thang House by Vo Trong Nghia Architects and No Footprint House in Costa Rica by A-01.
Photography is by Cyrille Lallement.

(OC) Frenchifying the Canadiens (An Alternate Reality)
(This is the squeakquel threequel to Moneyballing the Senators and Covertly Tanking the Wild)It's August 2019. Marc Bergevin and Trevor Timmins are sitting in the Montreal Canadiens' war room when the phone rings. It's Geoff Molson, the team president and co-owner.Hey guys, it's Geoff. I'm gonna cut a long story short - the province's Minister for Sports has apparently stumbled on some... compromising information about this organization. For legal reasons I'm not gonna get into it, but it implicates all of us in the front office. The good news is that he says he's not going to put it out there for the sake of the franchise and the city. The bad news is that he has one demand, and I don't think we'll be able to get out of it. He's a bit of a nationalist, you know? Very vive la Québec francophone and all that. He says the worst thing that ever happened to les Habs was when they started letting Ontarians and Americans on the team, and that he stopped watching when they made Saku Koivu captain. He told me he'll shred all the dirt he has on us if we make the Canadiens a 100% Québecois team by October. I know that puts you in a tough situation guys, but good luck guys!Bergevin and Timmins look at eachother in shock."Well at least this will save us a shit-ton on amateur scouting""This isn't funny Trevor, what the hell are we going to do? I guess I'll start sending out feelers and hopefully we'll be ready by opening night. If we rush this we'll lose every trade and look like imbéciles""No, Marc, we have to get all of this done now. Tonight. You think we'll lose these trades if we hurry? If McKenzie somehow gets wind of this and tweets it out we're gonna be icing a fucking QMJHL team this year. We need to do this all at once before anyone figures out what's going on.""Merde you're fucking right.""Think about it though Marc. If you brought a Cup to Montreal with a bunch of Anglos and Americans on the ice you'd be a hero, sure. But if you get les Canadiens une Coupe with all French guys they'll add your biceps to the fucking fleur de lis. Let's just do it and be légendes, frère.""Alright. Get me a list of every son of a bitch in this league with an accent aigu in their name, a six pack of Taureau Rouge, and 29 more phones."Six Hours LaterBobby Margarita @TSNBobMcKenzieIt's probably nothing, but I'm hearing that the NHL trade line has about 12 trades pending.Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNICHabs have signed Pominville (1.5M), Chartier (0.75M) and Bourque (0.7M) to 1 year contracts.Bobby Margarita @TSNBobMcKenzieA lot of talk around the Habs right now. Things are about to get really silly.Tampa Bay Lightning @TBLightningThe #Lightning have acquired LW Tomas Tatar, D Mike Rielly, G Charlie Lindgren, and a 2020 3rd round pick from the #Canadiens in exchange for RW Yanni Gourde, LW Cedric Paquette, and G Louis Domingue.Columbus Blue Jackets @BlueJacketsNHLBLOCKBUSTER ALERT: #CBJ have acquired G Carey Price, C Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and D Jeff Petry in exchange for C Pierre-Luc Dubois, D David Savard, C Maxime Fortier, and a conditional 1st round draft pick.Pittsburgh Penguins @penguinsTRADE ALERT: The Penguins have acquired defenceman Shea Weber and forward Max Domi from the Coyotes in exchange for Kris Letang, Jack Johnson, and Samuel Poulin.Ottawa Senators @SenatorsNews Release: #Sens acquire defenceman Cale Fleury, forward Joel Armia from Montreal for Christian Wolanin and Anthony DuclairCommuniqué : Les #Sens acquièrent Cale Fleury et Joel Armia de Montréal pour Christian Wolanin et Anthony Duclair.Colorado Avalanche @avalancheA big trade. #GoAvsGoColorado trades Sam Girard and Mark Barberio to Montreal for Victor Mete, Artturi Lehkonen, and 2018 2nd round pick Alexander RomanovVegas Golden Knights @GoldenKnightsTrading places! ⚔️Vegas acquires RW Brendan Gallagher from the Montreal Canadiens for LW Jonathan Marchessault and a conditional 2020 3rd.New York Islanders @NYIslanders#Isles trade RFA rights to Anthony Beauvillier to MTL for C Ryan Poehling and C Nate Thompson.Jim Matheson @NHLbyMattyStill blws my mind that Keith Gretzky hasn't been offered a GM job yet. Lots of respct around the league for his scouting in EDM. Wouldn't be surprised if Minneosta takes a long look at himChicago Blackhawks @NHLBlackhawksTRADE ALERT: Left Wing Paul Byron, Cayden Primeau, and Keith Kinkaid have been acquired from Montreal in exchange for Corey Crawford and Nicolas Beaudin.Detroit Red Wings @DetroitRedWings#RedWings have acquired RW Cole Caufield and LD Brett Kulak from the Montreal Canadiens for C Joe Veleno and a 2020 4th round pickWinnipeg Jets @NHLJets#NHLJets have acquired forward Jordan Weal and a second-round draft pick in the 2020 #NHLDraft from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Matthieu Perreault.Arizona Coyotes @ArizonaCoyotesTRADE ALERT: #Coyotes have acquired Noah Juulsen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Jason Demers.Vancouver Canucks @CanucksNHLTRADE ALERT: #Canucks have acquired a 2021 5th round pick from MTL for D Alex BiegaAnaheim Ducks @AnaheimDucksTRADE: The #Ducks have acquired centre Nick Suzuki, defenceman Ben Chiarot, centre Nick Cousins and a 2020 2nd round pick from the @CanadiensMTL for C Benoit-Olivier Groulx and LW Maxime ComtoisBergevin and Timmins slump down in their chairs, surrounded by crumpled up pieces of paper and half-drunk half-Red Bull protein shakes, and look at the new roster they've assembled, scrawled on the white board in front of them.Jonathan Marchessault - Pierre-Luc Dubois - Jonathan Drouin Anthony Beauvillier - Philip Danault - Yanni Gourde Anthony Duclair - Mathieu Perreault - Jason Pominville Joe Veleno - Cedric Paquette - Maxime Comtois Gabriel Bourque Samuel Girard - Kris Letang Christian Wolanin - David Savard Alex Biega - Jason Demers Mark Barberio Corey Crawford Louis Domingue The Next MorningThe hockey world is in complete chaos. The Canadiens' front office pulled off all of these trades simultaneously, and not a single other GM realized what was going on. Sure they guessed that the Habs were targeting their French players (what else is new?) but they were as shocked as anyone when they started getting frantic texts as soon as they had submitted the deals to the league.Hockey media is a mess. TSN has interrupted their coverage of Canadian U20 Cricket regionals and dispatched the Bellicopter to retrieve Bobby Margarita from the Muskoka wilderness; analytics bloggers are frantically assembling heat maps and charts to make some sense of the madness; podcasters are recording 6-hour episodes.Bergevin and Timmins are asleep, and will be until the afternoon. They'll wake up to a copy of Le Devoir and the Montreal Gazette on the front porch of the Bell Centre with competing editorials:Montreal Gazette - August 11 2019"What the Hell did Bergevin Just Do?"MONTREAL, QC - NHL teams aren't put together in a day - it takes years of scouting, developing, trading, and signing to put together a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup. To succeed, managers have to be able to set aside their biases - for certain types of players, for action, and for nationality - and make rational, measured decisions.Apparently nobody told Marc Bergevin that.On Saturday night, Bergevin blew up a team that finished as close to a playoff spot as is humanly possible. Usually in hockey "blowing up a team" means trading a few core pieces; in this case it meant a rabid simultaneous onslaught of 13 trades replacing 90% of the roster and a large chunk of the prospect cupboard. And why? So that the insecurity of nationalist Francophones can be resurrected on the Bell Centre (excuse me, Centre Bell) ice, and the worst nostalgic tendencies of our society can play out below the retired number banners of Doug Harvey, Larry Robinson, and Bernie Geoffrion.Maybe this team will be a Cup contender, maybe they won't be. But the message that Marc Bergevin has sent to the thousands of children who watch the Montreal Canadiens (many of whose Weber or Price jerseys are now suddenly out of date) is one of exclusion and tribalism. And he, and Geoff Molson, and every element of our province responsible for this idiocy should be ashamed. Vive Bergevin! How did it turn out in the end? Let's just say that the Fleurgevin was hanging in every classroom in the province by the summer.Hope you enjoyed, if you have any ideas for a future thing like this let me know!

Asmus Tietchens
Asmus Tietchens — a name that popped up about 40 years ago for the first time on an album of ambient music by Cluster&Eno (1977) and can be found in various fields of electronic and experimental music ever since, mostly on the fringes of certain genres like industrial, synth-pop, acousmatic, reductionist electronic music or krautrock. It’s hard to fix his position to a specific scene, instead he seems more like a curious and peculiar mind working his way through all the spheres that catch his curiosity. Although he can be classified as a consistent solo-artist, quite a few collaborations have been exercised with people like the percussionist Jon Mueller, the reductionist electronic composer Richard Chartier, Chrysanthemums’ Terry Burrows or his duo Kon-takt der Jünglinge (a combination of titles of two early Stockhausen pieces) together with media-artist and composer Thomas Koener. He also appears on an album by the ephemeral Krautrock band-project Liliental (one of the few records featuring studio-wizard Conny Plank as a musician), probably the only real band he ever played in, not to mention his general dislike of most Krautrock.
— Marc Matter
But let’s start at the beginning: Asmus Tietchens was born in Hamburg (*1947), has lived there ever since, and works there mostly in the studio of his old friend Okko Bekker—a composer of filmscores and advertisments who also guest-starred on the Cluster & Eno album, but has also produced whole works together with Asmus, most notably a concept-album called E that contains succesful imitations of modern classical and avantgarde music. His attachment with the city of Hamburg is close: being a key-figure and a close inspiration to a younger generation of experimental electronic musicians such as Felix Kubin, who admired Tietchens as a kind of chinese master, a laughing monch, an existentialist audio-scientist leaning to impressionism who produces real science-fiction with his music. He also used to be involved in the infamous Odradek fanzine, has been rumored of being behind the mysterious Werkbund and Mechthild von Leusch projects together with Uli Rehberg aka Ditterich von Euler-Donnersperg (Tietchens repeatedly denied his participation) and still co-runs the monthly Hörbar events of experimental music in a small cinema (B-Movie). Even his dayjobs that he once had to execute for the sake of his parents’ peace were typical for Hamburg: trained as a tradesman working in the harbour and later being a copywriter in the advertising business.
Confronted with early german electronic avantgarde music and french musique concrete on the night-programs of germany’s state-radio as a 12-year old kid, because he somewhat felt obliged to follow the development of the arts as a grammar school student due to his vanity, this kind of music caught his curiosity. The idea to make music himself developed, and after giving it a try with guitar-playing which failed due to his left-handedness, he started tinkering around with splicing prerecorded tapes and doing random collages of found sound and music as a young teenager. In the mid-60s he systematisized his approach and got access to a Revox tape-machine, and his first piece of tape-music dates back to 1965. Making music continued as a hobby for 15 years, before getting the opportunity to make it public. The LP Formen letzter Hausmusik (transl. Last forms of family-music, 1984) that was released by Nurse With Wounds Steven Stapleton for his United Dairies label contained mostly material dating from the mid-70s. His active entry into the music-scene as a composer was via the industrial scene, not only releasing on the NWW label but also on Esplendor Geometrico’s later on, but he does not call his own music industrial: “like i have been on the fringes of industrial music in the 80s, i am nowadays working on the fringes of reductionist music” he tells me in a telephone interview. A period in his work as a composer that dates back to the early and mid 80s should not be forgotten—back then the german intellectual pop-magazine Spex (in the July 1985 issue) speculated that “atonal veteran Asmus Tietchens will never lose his reputation as a hippie-electronic (musician) because of his releases on the german Krautrock-label Sky”, although he still respects these records for what they are: synthie-pop.
While also some of his experimental pieces work with rhythms and repetitive patterns, his current compositions however are rather abstract, sparse and stern, a music not easy to access but starring an idiosyncratic beauty; they explore very subtle differences in tone, texture and sound while not hesitating to use silence as an element. He is more and more interested in nuances: “an unattentive listener could gain the impression when listening to an eight minute piece that nothing is happening here” he remarks. After starting out with tape-collages and going through phases of synthesized music and a long period of mixing both, he is back to pure electronic sound: “nowadays i hardly work with concrete sound-material like field-recordings anymore, but use synthetic sounds”. Nevertheless, two of Tietchens relatively recent radiopieces that he composed for the WDR Ars-Acustica broadcast series exclusively use concentrated field-recordings: Trois Dryades is based on microscopic recordings of a tree that is cut, and Sechs Heidelberger Studien on recordings of an old Heidelberger printing-machine. Both were awarded with the Karl-Sczuka Price for Radio- Art in 2003 and 2006. Unlike other artists who start out radical only to become tamed by habit, his musical abstraction and quaintness increased over time and moreover his curiosity lead him into different genres and styles without losing a certain kind of handwriting.
Some of Asmus Tietchens recordings display a twisted sort of humor: an LP of seemingly lost tapes by german hardrock band The Scorpions trying out some electronic Krautrock (of course NOT produced by The Scorpions but by Tietchens in collaboration with Felix Kubin aka Knoth and Tim Buhre as Spiders on Phasing), or the Aroma Club series containing bizarre synth-pop with matching artwork are funny though sarcastic examples of his broad approach to electronic music and his playful mocks on musical trends and genres. In some of these projects he uses pseudonyms which happen to be anagrams based on his real name like Tussi Schemante or Achim Stutessen. Artwork and album- or tracktitles (which are, beside a few exceptions, all in german) are further dimensions in Tietchens records in which a jejune kind of humor can be found in homeopathic doses, but besides of that, he considers his music to lack humor. It might be a specific critical sensitivity and playfulness within the way he approaches music, art and life, making him more of a dandy-noir (more in a spiritual sense instead of a blasé fashion-attitude) than a tongue-in-cheek ironymonger.
Asmus Tietchens doesnt mind to talk about his music before his performances, and he is a great talker. He is also a gifted writer of critical essays on experimental music or linernotes for records by Cluster, Günther Schickert or Institut fuer Feinmotorik that contain remarkable literary qualities. However, he considers his music a music without words, a kind of ‘absolute music’—a concept dating back to mid-19th centuries hardcore romanticism—a music that is absolutely self-sufficient, that is not ‘about’ or ‘stands for’ something but for itself, that does not intend to provoke specific thoughts or feelings amongst the listeners (he is a diligent listener of his own music by the way)—in that way being as open for interpretation as it can get: “i have no messages to spread, and i dont know to whom i should adress those”. But nevertheless, he can’t help but stick to his habit to include a quotation of the thinker of extreme pessimism EM Cioran on each record since Seuchengebiete (transl. Pestilence Fields, 1985); thats because he really wants to share those aphorisms—not because he wants to entertain the listener, but to show what intellectual influences he bears. Thus he is not reflecting a worldview or philosophical convictions through his art, “there’s still some philosophical background noise that inspires the music”. Therefore it does not surprise that he characterises his music of the last 20 years—without any evaluation—as “an attempt to establish a maximal ‘human-distance’”
