RSC Wars of the Roses
SO. i'm on vacation in stratford right now and i got to see the rsc production of wars of the roses live on closing night and hooooooly shit holy shit. tldr: play good and i'm fucking insane. i have many thoughts.
so it was basically henry vi part 3 but with a liiiittle bit of part 2 tacked on at the beginning. we open on york arriving with his army to fuck shit up and ultimately claim the throne over the somerset issue and then go until the end of part 3
they used cameras and projections in a really cool way, there was this translucent curtain kind of thing where video was projected at different points. sometimes it was a scene going on backstage (like henry conferring with his men before confronting york in the throne room), sometimes something happening onstage but out of the audience's view (rutland cowering behind a set piece before he was killed), sometimes a close-up of something going on onstage (often when characters were killing or dying), sometimes a separately filmed scene of something related (richard killing clifford while other characters talked about it). during tewksbury edward iv and margaret's monologues were filmed like speeches bieng projected to the whole battlefield. and sometimes they would show other things, like still shots of york as his sons found out he was dead.
AND at one point in the son who killed father/father who killed son scene henry put his hand on the back of the cameraman who was filming and i don't know if that means anything but it made me kind of crazy
THE CAST WAS ALL AMAZING. mark quartley had essentially my dream henry vi vibe i wanted to hug him so much in every scene he was in. his mannerisms were so nervous and uncomfortable and sometimes he would just turn away from the conversation going on and look out at the audience like he was so conflicted and didn't know what he was doing. he made me so fucking sad and that's all i want from my poor little meow meow english monarch
ARTHUR HUGHES RICHARD. HOLY SHIT. first of all he actually has radial dysplasia of his arm which is cool, i really appreciate the casting of a disabled actor in that role. and his energy was fucking FANTASTIC. my controversial take is that i like 3h6 richard more than r3 richard as a character and this prod was absolutely an example of why. he's so scrappy and high-energy and he really feels so YOUNG. and then about a third of the way into the play he started revealing his Evil Intentions and had such a fantastic rapport with the audience, there were tons of great little nod and wink moments when we were privy to his reactions to things while the characters onstage weren't. he was soooo likeable in that evil way, i may have bad taste but he's my best friend. i'm like actively angry i won't be around to see him in r3.
minnie gale was also a great margaret! she was a little bit more overtly emotional than i've seen the role played before, in the "i here divorce myself" scene she seemed more genuinely grief-stricken than angry. she upset me so much in prince edward's death scene with her sheer desperation
honestly there wasn't a weak link for me! oliver alvin-wilson had amazing presence as york and ashley d gayle was the perfect horrible little slut (affectionate) as edward but when his emotionality came out it was. h.
WHAT THEY DID WITH THE PAPER CROWN. PAIN AND AGONY. in 1.2 rutland was wearing this paper crown as he played around with his dad and his brothers and then it got left behind onstage as he ran to escape when the army came in. and then. well. that was the paper crown they put on york's head CHECK OUT HOW HARD I CAN CRY
when margaret was waiting for york to speak in that scene she FULLY DID THIS POSE ON THE FLOOR. HELP ME
the throne was part of the set that stayed onstage the whole time and york died clinging onto it which mentalled my illnesses
richard DID cry when he heard that york was dead which made "i cannot weep" later in that scene so much more insanity-inducing. he does feel intensely he's just trying to pretend he's not grieving. god i think about the richard and york relationship it makes me so upset HE LOVED HIS DAD AND HIS DAD LOVED HIM
when margaret told henry to "unsheathe your sword" so he could knight prince edward he wasn't wearing a sword so margaret actually had to hand him one. and then he actually dropped the word and just touched his son on the shoulders instead and hugged him. henry :(((((((
king louis and bona were so french (derogatory). they were the comic relief and they just had the stupidest most over-the-top accents and gestures and costumes. watching british/french hostility in action and eating popcorn
when the watchman talked about "lord hastings, the king's chiefest friend" he coughed and did a suggestive voice. a win for bi edward truthers. also when he got captured in that scene he was shirtless and the screen projections had showed him thotting it up with three women. slut
they cut the scene where edward is trying to persuade the mayor to let him into york but there WAS a scene where he was debating with richard and hastings if he should claim his crown or just his dukedom and at one point he screamed "I CAN'T I CAN'T I CAN'T" and just. fully broke down. was not expecting edward to hurt me like that but oh god
the henry vi death scene went OFF and hurt me infinitely as usual. however my one gripe was that they cut "for this amongst the rest was i ordained" which is one of my favourite richard lines EVER. it fucks so hard why would you do that. but GOD the killing of henry was so violent and took so long, most of the onstage deaths didn't have fake blood (people had a lot of blood on their faces but it didn't appear during stage-combat) but then henry was soaked in blood as richard stabbed him over and over and over. and the banger of all bangers speech went off as usual.
the yorkists came onstage and started celebrating and dancing as richard was still standing over henry's body which was such a good representation of where richard is at going into r3, still stuck in war and violence mode while the world around him has moved on to peace and celebrations. and just the reminder that it's all only possible because of henry's death
they did the classic "end on richard holding the baby SO threateningly" thing which. vibes. and the last image was the camera close on his face as he turned toward the audience before it cut to black
ALSO i meet rosie sheehy who was king john in the recent rsc prod! i got to talking to some people sitting next to me about king john and it turned out she was in the audience so they offered to introduce me. she was super super nice (and told me that apparently eating a raw egg on stage every night wasn't that bad). she'll be anne in the rsc r3 which once again i would fucking kill to watch now
GOD WHY CAN I NOT SIMPLY LIVE AT THE RSC FOREVER AND EVER THAT IS MY QUESTION
#RSC SO GOOD I'M GOING TO EXPLODE I THINK#WHEN WILL I EVER REPLICATE THE INSANITY OF BEING HERE#i'm seeing two globe plays soon as well. SO.#3 henry vi#rose tetralogy#shakespeare#royal shakespeare company#mine

REKEEM HARPER Three of the biggest names in Europe have emerged as contenders for West Brom midfielder Rekeem Harper this summer. Italian champions Juventus will go up against Champions League finalists Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to battle for the Albion teenager, whose current contract expires in the near future. Albion have made their final offer to Harper, which remains on the table, but the academy product is yet to decide on where he’ll be playing his football next season. Full story SALOMON RONDON’S FUTURE It appears increasingly likely that Rafael Benitez will be leaving Newcastle United in the near future. Talks between the Magpies and the popular Spaniard over a fresh contract appear to have stalled ahead of the new season, and with Benitez’s current deal up next week, his exit is imminent. Benitez won’t be short on offers, of course; he’s been linked with the vacancy at Chelsea, a job he’s held before, while there is believed to be considerable money on offer to head out and manage in the Chinese Super League. The 59-year-old, whose decorated CV includes spells at Liverpool, Valencia, Real Madrid, Inter and Napoli, is largely adored on Tyneside, and the club hierarchy – namely owner Mike Ashley – faces a backlash from supporters if they allow Benitez to walk away. This is your round up of all things Albion; the one-stop shop that will keep you updated on the latest goings on at The Hawthorns and beyond. Transfers, injuries, match-days and managers, we’ve got you covered. We’ll be bringing the very latest on the Baggies throughout week and around the clock. Make sure you keep yourself updated with our handy daily catch up… THE MUST READS… * Dwight Gayle latest – READ * Albion’s 2019/20 promotion odds – READ * West Brom’s fixtures – READ * West Brom odds – READ A further complication should Benitez depart St James’s Park is the knock-on effect it’ll have on Salomon Rondon’s future. One of the many subjects touched open during Benitez’s talks with Newcastle was their transfer policy, and the sort of budget the manager might be allowed ahead of the new campaign. There was interest in Wesley Moraes, but United missed out after being beaten to the Club Brugge powerhouse by Aston Villa. READ MORE Rondon, though, is seven years Wesley’s senior, and Ashley’s reluctance to spend money on players of a certain age – i.e. with no sell-on value – is well known. The Venezuelan, currently away on international duty at the Copa America in Brazil, has attracted interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United, but Newcastle were always the forward’s preferred destination. West Brom star Rondon thoroughly enjoyed his time in the North East last season, scoring 12 goals and collecting the player of the year accolade. He has a single year left on his contract at The Hawthorns and will be sold this summer having indicated previously that he’s not willing to play in the Championship. poll loading HOW WOULD YOU GRADE SALOMON RONDON’S CAREER SO FAR AT ALBION? 500+ VOTES SO FAR A B C D E READ MORE Ex Malaga and Zenit striker Rondon could yet have options to move abroad, with clubs in Turkey and France keen, but he’s ideally like to remain in the Premier League. A permanent move to Newcastle would have to be considered extremely unlikely at this stage, however, if – as is now expected – Benitez departs. Rondon will cost interested suitors £16.5m this summer, after Albion’s failure to win promotion. FILIP KROVINOVIĆ Slaven Bilic is interested in bringing Croatian starlet Filip Krovinović to West Bromwich Albion, according to reports. The 23-year-old midfielder spent last season on the fringes at Portuguese club Benfica and is reportedly keen on a move away from the Stadium of Light. The Portuguese press recently claimed a deal to take Krovinović to fellow Primeira Liga side Guimaraes was close to completion – but European broadcaster SportKlub now states Albion have entered the race. Zagreb-born Krovinović has never been capped at senior level by Croatia, although he was a regular for his nation’s youth teams. Krovinović only made 12 appearances for Portuguese champions Benfica last season and isn’t in manager Bruno Lage’s plans. WEST BROM MOVE TO RETAIN PRODIGY AMID BARCELONA INTEREST – READ Premier League side Norwich City have expressed an interest in Krovinović, but SportKlub claims Bilic ‘would gladly bring him to West Brom’. Bilic, who only took charge of Albion last week, is yet to make his first signing with youngster Owen Windsor the club’s only addition so far this summer. For all your latest Albion news, opinion, analysis and transfer gossip, click here DWIGHT GAYLE (Image: Adam Fradgley/AMA) Fulham are the latest team to show an interest in Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle. Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion are both reported to be interested in signing the striker for the news season, but Fulham are reportedly ready to spend £20m to secure his services. The Express suggests that Scott Parker is desperate to land the striker, who netted 24 goals at the second tier for West Bromwich Albion during the most recent campaign. The Baggies can’t afford Gayle’s wages to even have him on loan next term. Gayle however is keen to give things another go at Newcastle and stay in the Premier League. Landing Gayle would likely see Fulham sell Aleksandr Mitrovic back to the top flight. Stoke City have also been linked with a £20m bid for Gayle. Full story READ MORE WHAT’S HAPPENING AT WEST BROM? LOUIE BARRY West Brom have offered Barcelona target Louie Barry a three-year deal – including professional terms – after the striker turned 16, in the hope that it’ll convince him to remain at The Hawthorns. Barry celebrated his 16th birthday on Friday, meaning he is now eligible to discuss his future with other clubs, and European giants Barcelona – as well as German champions Bayern Munich – are among a number of clubs around the continent who have considered offering Barry a contract, having met with him previously. Understandably, the Baggies wish to retain the teenager and have opened talks over a one-year scholarship followed by a two-year professional deal. Full story PARDS Former West Brom manager Alan Pardew is reportedly in the running for the job vacancy at FC Cincinnati. The MLS club, currently bottom of the Eastern Conference – and indeed the overall table – after taking just 11 points from their first 16 matches, have lost nine of their last ten games after a fairly promising start to the campaign. The club parted company with South African boss Alan Koch back in May, and Yoan Damet is their current interim head coach. Cincinnati, though, are understandably keen on appointing a new, permanent boss in the hope that it’ll turn their fortunes around, and Pardew – reports ESPN – has emerged as a serious candidate to take the job. Divine 11 - South Africa vs West Indies match predictions and pitch report
South Africa have had a disastrous start to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 with three losses on the trot and they would want to change their fate when they meet West Indies on Monday at The Rose Bowl at Southampton
Play Fantasy cricket and win Daily Prizes with Divine 11 - India’s biggest fantasy cricket game
Preview: South Africa have suffered a nightmare start to their World Cup 2019 campaign with three losses on the trot and plenty of injury concerns as well. Dale Steyn has been ruled out of the tournament while Lungi Ngidi is nursing an injury and will miss tomorrow’s game. They have also been in the news after AB de Villiers’ decision to play for the team before the World Cup was turned down. Their on-field struggles along with the off-field activities have led to a lot of negativity within the camp. They will, however, look to put that behind them when they take on West Indies on Monday.
West Indies’ fast bowlers have been in excellent form in this edition so far. They restricted Pakistan to 105 in their first game and skittled out Australia for just 288 in the second. However, while they won the first, they were unable to win the second game.
Pitch Conditions :
Venue: The Rose Bowl - Southampton, England
The wicket here offers something for the seamers upfront with good bounce on offer as well. Both teams have intimidating fast bowlers who will look to make use of the conditions up front. However, as the match progresses, the batters will have a huge say in the game.
Play Fantasy cricket and win Daily Prizes with Divine 11 - India’s biggest fantasy cricket game
Weather Conditions: There is a huge chance of rain on match day, with weather predictions stating that there is a 90% chance of rain. With a minimum temperature of 9 and a maximum of 14, the day will be chilly with strong winds blowing across. Hence, the D/L Method is likely to come into play. The team that chases always has an advantage according to the D/L Method, and the team that wins the toss, should bat second.
Venue Scoring Pattern :
Average 1st innings score: 260 Average 2nd innings score : 214 Highest Total: 373/3 (50 Ov) by ENG vs PAK Lowest Total: 65/10 (24 Ov) by USA vs AUS
Highest Chased: 306/7 (49 Ov) by NZ vs ENG
Lowest Defended: 251/7 (50 Ov) by ENG vs SL
Team Analysis :
South Africa: Beuran Hendricks has flown in as the replacement of Dale Steyn is likely to play in the game against West Indies. With Steyn ruled out and Lungi Ngidi nursing an injury, Hendricks will be a part of the pace attack and could replace Tabraiz Shamsi. Hashim Amla played the last game after missing the second one due to a head injury - and if Markram and Shamsi both miss out, the responsibility on JP Duminy with the ball will increase.
Full Squad: Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, Jean-Paul Duminy, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Imran Tahir, Tabraiz Shamsi, Beuran Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorius, Aiden Markram
Play Fantasy cricket and win Daily Prizes with Divine 11 - India’s biggest fantasy cricket game
West Indies: Evin Lewis replaced Darren Bravo in the game against Australia, opening the batting with Chris Gayle. Shai Hope was dropped to number three. West Indies will have to manage the fitness of Chris Gayle and Andre Russell, but there is likely to be no change for this game.
Full Squad: Shai Hope (wk), Jason Holder (c), Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Andre Russell, Carlos Brathwaite, Ashley Nurse, Sheldon Cottrell, Oshane Thomas, Darren Bravo, Shannon Gabriel, Kemar Roach, Fabian Allen
Player to vouch for:
South Africa: Quinton de Kock
West Indies: Chris Gayle
Standings in ICC ODI Points Table :
South Africa: 3rd with 115 points
West Indies: 8th with 77 points
Head to Head in World Cup :
Total matches played: 6
Total South Africa won: 4
Total West Indies won: 2
Play Fantasy cricket and win Daily Prizes with Divine 11 - India’s biggest fantasy cricket game
South Africa has a good record against West Indies with 44 wins from 61 matches with one tie and one no result. The Windies, on the other hand, have won just 15. However, they did win the last time the two played each other in the format back in 2016. West Indies won two of the three games against South Africa with Darren Bravo hitting a hundred.
Till then, follow Divine 11 for more updates and information about the upcoming fixtures and latest happenings in the Sports World.

For the next 10 days (with a little break on Christmas day), I’m going to recap the last decade—probably some of the most emotional years of my life. Now, these are just some of my favorites across the last decade, I obviously can’t include everything. When it comes to TV shows, I only chose shows that had a premiere date starting 2010 or after, hence why favorites like Parks and Recreation and Community aren’t on the list. I hope you enjoy!

R. Kelly Arrested on Child Pornography and Other Federal Charges
The singer R. Kelly, already under indictment in Chicago on state charges of aggravated sexual assault and abuse, was arrested Thursday night by federal agents on charges related to child pornography and other federal crimes, officials said.
Mr. Kelly was taken into custody over a 13-count indictment that includes enticement of a minor and obstruction of justice, in addition to the child pornography charges, said Joseph D. Fitzpatrick, an assistant United States attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Kelly was arrested in Chicago.
Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn are expected to unveil a separate indictment on Friday containing additional charges against Mr. Kelly, according to two law enforcement officials.
In that indictment, Mr. Kelly is charged with one count of racketeering and four counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines for the purpose of prostitution, according to a law enforcement official.
Mr. Kelly was the only person charged in the indictment, which identifies him as the leader of a racketeering enterprise, the official said.
Mr. Kelly is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday in federal court in Chicago. Officials said he would ultimately be brought to New York City to face charges, though the timing has yet to be determined. He was not expected to appear in court in Brooklyn on Friday.
The federal charges, which officials said would be unsealed on Friday, deepen the legal morass for Mr. Kelly, who has been dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct for decades but was acquitted on state child pornography charges in 2008.
Mr. Kelly, 52, whose real name is Robert S. Kelly, already faces more than a dozen state felony charges related to sexual abuse accusations in Chicago involving four women, three of whom were underage at the time, prosecutors said.
He was charged with 10 state counts in February, with more state charges filed against him in May. He has pleaded not guilty to those charges.
Mr. Kelly was arrested while walking his dog on Thursday night by New York detectives and federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations, who built the case with the New York Police Department, officials said.
Mr. Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, said in a statement that Mr. Kelly was “aware of the investigations and the charges were not a surprise.”
Mr. Greenberg also said that most of the charges appeared to stem from old allegations, some of which were made in the previous indictment.
The statement added that Mr. Kelly and his lawyers “look forward to his day in court, to the truth coming out and to his vindication from what has been an unprecedented assault by others for their own personal gain.”
Mr. Kelly’s arrest makes for the second case in a week in which the federal authorities have pursued high-profile figures for charges related to sexual abuse involving minors. Jeffrey Epstein, the New York financier, who for years has faced allegations involving underage girls, was arrested on Saturday and charged with sex trafficking by federal prosecutors in Manhattan.
The longstanding accusations against Mr. Kelly received renewed attention in recent months. A six-part documentary profiling some of his accusers aired in January, and Mr. Kelly’s remarkable interview with Gayle King in March gripped the nation’s attention.
Suspicion has loomed over Mr. Kelly since his brief marriage, in 1994, to the singer Aaliyah when she was 15. He was tried in 2008 on child pornography charges stemming from a 27-minute tape in which prosecutors said he had sex with and urinated on a teenage girl. He was acquitted on all counts after the girl declined to testify against him.
Yet, even as the allegations trailed him, his career continued to flourish. He performed at the World Cup in the summer of 2010 and released an album in December of that year called “Love Letter.”
In 2017, Jim DeRogatis, who in 2000 was the first journalist to document claims against Mr. Kelly, wrote an article published by Buzzfeed in which women in Mr. Kelly’s social circle depicted an abusive cultlike atmosphere.
“Surviving R. Kelly,” the six-part documentary that was broadcast by Lifetime, detailed alarming accusations about his treatment of women.
The documentary prompted investigations by Atlanta, Chicago and federal law enforcement officials. In Illinois, the Cook County state’s attorney, Kim Foxx, asked any victims to come forward. Some did, leading to his arrest on state charges in February.
His explosive interview with Ms. King, which aired on her program “CBS This Morning,” gave the case renewed national attention. Mr. Kelly sought to portray himself as a victim, targeted by a smear campaign. He forcefully denied the claims against him, at one point staring directly into the camera, tears in his eyes, and said, “I didn’t do this stuff! This is not me!”
Jacey Fortin, Michael Gold and Ashley Southall contributed reporting.
