Hello lovely, sorry if it’s a lot for asking but I heard you were a lore goblin and was hoping if you could explain the Imperium AU to me? I’m too scared to listen to the audios 😭 I’m a wimp!!
Hello, friend! You have come to the right Lore Gremlin/Goblin/Little Creature/What Have You! (LOL—apparently you caught me in a mood). It's definitely not too much to ask. And don't worry about being to scared to listen to them. I understand completely XD
If you have any other questions about Imperium after this, let me know. I tried to cover as much as I could
*rubs hands together* Let's go! This is long and it's fairly thorough, but told with a sort of chaotic energy. I'm going in the order that the episodes released, by the way
I don't know how familiar you are with Echo, on Redacted's channel (fourth-wall-breaking narrative tool, creepy eyeball). Echo is a character who twists our faves into scary versions of themselves, among other things.
Echo created the Imperium just to show us how the characters would be different if the Redactedverse was reflected back through a dark mirror.
The good guys are bad, and the bad guys are worse. Let's do this
It starts with some introduction. Way way back, in human Pre-History, there was a race of beings called the Sovereigns. If memory serves, they're from Aria?
Anyway, the Sovereigns created demons and daemons. Beings of pure magic. Meant to be servants to the Sovereigns. Eventually demons were saying no, so the Sovereigns crossed over into Elegy (Earth), and started experimenting on humans. Giving humans magic via Cores tied to Aria by Threads. Then they wove the Meridian over the natural interdimensional barrier between Aria and Elegy (Earth) in order to reinforce it. Because humans have to puncture the barrier to reach the magic of Aria. And the natural barrier was extremely thin. Too much magic being drawn through would break the barrier entirely, merging two realities into one.
The Sovereigns wanted humans to be their servants too.
Eventually, humans and d(a)emons teamed up and fought the Sovereigns, defeating them.
All of that information, is canon to the main Redactedverse (though mostly forgotten to history). Where is diverges is what happens next. In the canon universe, we don't know yet what happened to the Sovereigns after their defeat. In Imperium, the d(a)emons took them back to Aria, imprisoned, so d(a)emons could endlessly feed of the Sovereigns' energy (the way they feed off human emotion in the canon universe). Afterward, demons and humans fell out of contact with each other.
And empowered, magic humans became the ruling class of Earth.
Suspend your disbelief and fast-forward to our day-and-age.
We start with the Freelancer's story. Freelancer, our beloved Deviant/Voyeur, is on the run. The Imperium (the name of the empowered human government) actively hunts down humanborns. So Freelancer left their family to keep them safe, and took off.
Freelancer gets caught by our most detestable Water Elemental, Kody. And also Blake. Who contributes nothing useful.
Kody runs what is called a "Slicer" gang. Meaning they use powerful magic to slice a humanborn's Threads, cutting them off from their powers. They claim it's to "keep families together" (because the Imperium takes humanborns away from their families). Which is BS and neither useful for helpful.
However, there are no humans alive who have powerful enough magic to slice a fellow empowered human's Threads.
So guess who else is in Kody's gang (unwillingly, mind you)?
Gavin. Or, because he never chose that name for himself due to being brought up full-time in Aria, Vindemiator.
See, demons (and daemons, but to simplify, I'm using one spelling) are the only beings powerful enough to cut a human's connection to magic. And Kody is essentially blackmailing Gav—Vindemiator—into being part of his gang. Because the Imperium spreads propaganda that demons are bad/to be feared so that when demons are found on Elegy, they're turned in.
But they're in Dahlia. Where the Imperial Academy of Dahlia (D.A.M.N. but wrong-side-of-the-mirror) has what's called a demon haven. Rumored places where demons are sheltered from the Imperium, kept safe.
So Vindemiator takes his chance. He manipulates Kody into letting Freelancer keep their powers for the moment, and gets Freelancer alone in the back of a truck to lay out his plan: They go to the academy together. He needs a humanborn to vouch for him. He gets into the demon haven, and Freelancer stops running. Freelancer takes some convincing, because they don't really want their powers, but they didn't want Kody to make Vindemiator slice them either, but they agree.
So, after Vindemiator gets his revenge on Kody by literally burning out every pleasure receptor in his brain, they escape with one of the gang's trucks to head to the academy.
There, they run into Huxley and you hear my heart shatter into a million pieces. Who is not our sweet, himbo good boy. He's an Imperial Enforcer who is an absolute bully and pretty much roughs up Vindemiator a little bit before finally taking them inside the academy to meet the academy president.
Lasko. Who is even more of a terrifying, twisted version of himself. Lasko without the awkwardness and stuttering sounds like a crazy villain, okay?
Anyway, Lasko is kinda the reason the Imperium seeks humanborns so vehemently. He believes they're pure magic manifestations, and reveres them in a way, given he is one himself. He agrees to take Vindemiator into the demon haven, and get Freelancer started with some classes. Making my skin crawl the entire time
Also maybe it's just me but there also seemed to be an implication that Lasko and Huxley are hooking up but that's really none of my business
And that is where we leave the Freelancer
We're coming back to Damien, don't worry
We move, now, to Starlight. Who has recently been appointed as the coordinator of the demon haven. Starlight starts their job by finding Avior, the director of the demon haven, on a rooftop. Starlight thought they were taking the job as some way to stick it to the Imperium, but it turns out the havens are not shelter from the Imperium, they're shelter granted by the Imperium. The Imperium values power, so they're not going to give up having custody of demons—who will always be more powerful than humans.
Avior informs Starlight of this, and also drops a major truth bomb on them: the Meridian is crumbling. Unravelling. Falling apart. In the canon universe, the Meridian is fairly safe: magic users are rare and they don't use their powers all the time. The rate of puncture is slower than the Meridians natural healing rate.
In the Imperium, though, magic users are the vast majority of the population and they use their powers with reckless abandon. The holes in the Meridian can't seal fast enough for the barrier to remain stable. Avior has tried to tell Lasko, and the King-Imperial, and anyone who will listen, but he keeps getting ignored.
Also, point I forgot: in the Imperium AU, most demons don't know how to rift. The few who do all work for the Chorus, and they only open rifts to exile demons to Elegy (which is why Vindemiator, Avior, Camelopardalis, and Vega are all on Elegy to begin with. Amongst others, I'm sure) for speaking out. If a demon dissents or suggests the treatments of the Sovereigns is unfair, they're exiled to Elegy. Which the Chorus considers a death sentence, given humans are so scared of demons.
Caelum is never seen during Imperium—he's still in Aria since he's not mouthy enough to speak out unlike Gavin and Avior, who are definitely mouthy and I love them for it. Gavin's always been a non-conformer and Avior is Avior
Back to Avior and Starlight on the rooftop. Avior tells Starlight that if the Meridian crumbles, Aria will overtake Elegy. And every single human and otherwise living thing will die in a moment of mass extinction since humans can't exist in Aria. Humans literally come apart and dissolve when exposed to pure magic like that. So if humanity can't stop using their powers so recklessly, pretty much everyone's gonna die.
And no one else will listen to him.
It's directly implied that Starlight decides to help Avior try to fight for humanity to save itself.
Originally Erik was gonna have Elliott be in the Imperium as a Nightmare-Walker who works for the Imperial Department of Law Enforcement (Imperium's version of D.U.M.P.), finding humanborns in their dreams and reporting them to the Imperium, but he swapped Elliott out for Avior because this lore was more important. Moving on.
Let's briefly touch on Vega's video because it was the Patreon Bonus Audio for the month where, as far as I'm aware, the only relevant information is that volunteers have a facility where they can let demons feed on them.
Fabulous. Let's keep going.
Damien! Our intense Fire Elemental with through-the-roof ambition. Guess what? He's the f^&*ing King-Imperial. He literally is the monarch. Who keeps ignoring Avior.
He is also in a weirdly yandere relationship with Angel, Davey's listener. Who, in this universe, was his childhood friend. This is where the popular headcanon that Damien and Angel are childhood friends in the canon universe comes from, even though Erik has said that, no, they do not know each other in canon and everyone ignores him including me. Damien is kind of cracking under the pressure of being the King-Imperial but is far too power-hungry to want to let it go. People are doubting him because he's young and he took over from his mom, who assumed the throne in an unconventional way and he's facing the consequences of that. This was also where we learned that in both Imperium and canon, his mom is named Sofia! 😁
When Angel starts calling him out he does use some paralysis magic to make it so Angel can't move and stops struggling but at least we know Angel is consistent and will needle tsundere characters in any universe.
Next, we move on to Ivan's partner from the SadBoi and FlyBoi audios (so not the one he kidnapped). Who has just moved to Dahlia for work and is in a long-distance relationship with Ivan. And they have a dentist appointment! And the dentist is...
Sam?
Yeah. So, the Imperium is very much of the mindset that "more magic is better" so they have a program that they set up with the help of a few Old Blood vampires (including William Solaire) for mass-making vampires.
It's essentially a Multi-Level Marketing/Pyramid Scheme program where a vampire has to turn a ton of other people in order to get out of the program.
And William gave Alexis to the program. He chose peace, let's be real. And Alexis did end up turning Sam—though whether it was directly because of the program or because the car accident still happened is never stated, but Erik mentioned in a stream that turning an empowered person into a vampire would have been frowned upon in that universe (because you're limiting their magic, rather than giving some to a person with no magic), so I imagine it might have been technically outside the program since Sam was a Freelancer, but it would have been while Alexis was still in the program so Sam was put into it too???
Anyway! So, Ivan's partner/listener is the last person Sam needs to turn in order to get his Mass-Maker title and be freed from the program in order to join the Solaire clan proper. But while he's explaining that they tend to choose people who don't really have any ties, the listener gets a call from Ivan. Sam... almost... balks, but then changes his mind, and turns the listener anyway.
Because going to the dentist isn't nightmarish enough, Erik!
Next up, we set our sights on Baaabe! Who is running away from the Imperial Academy of Dahlia, being chased by shifters. Christian tackles Babe to the ground and is being Christian when Milo comes over and is telling Babe that his mate, who is a Stealth, was watching Babe the entire time they'd snuck into the academy to grab the files. Because the only canon couple still together (besides Ivan and his partner, I guess) that I can think of is Milo and Sweetheart yeeeeaaaah boiiii! Milo then also essentially proceeds to tell Christian to pull his head out of his butt when another voice joins.
At first, it sounds like our beloved Davey. Grumbly and low. But it's quickly revealed that, no—it's Asher! Asher is the alpha! And Milo is his beta. Wait what? And Asher is going to drag Babe to the Department to report them for swiping some files from the academy.
When they're heading to a truck and Christian gets mouthy again, Asher slams him against the side of the truck (Babe has already been put inside) and drops another freaking lore bomb.
Yeah, Asher is alpha because David is dead! He and Darlin' died fighting Quinn and those two vampires Darlin' got super injured fighting in the canon universe when Sam tended to their injuries afterwards. Christian and Amanda were the closest ones who could have served as backup but were too busy blowing off their jobs to hook up to get there and Asher blames Christian for David's death.
Anyway, Asher dismisses Christian and gets in the truck and Babe is like, "Bruh, you good?" And Asher is like, "No—but why do you care?" And then we get into the meat of what's up
Babe broke into the academy and stole files that had no business being where they were. Which meant they were left there for Babe.
And they were. By Starlight. Because Babe and Starlight are friends in the Imperium universe. And only in the Imperium universe, according to Erik while I continue to ignore him.
Anyway the files detail Avior's information on the weakening Meridian. Asher changes his mind about taking Babe to the Department and instead alters their route to head to the pack's den so he can look at the files closer and figure out what he wants to do from here.
Aaaaand, onto the last major installment.
Lovely. We end with the characters the channel began with. Which I'm sure is deliberate.
Lovely, whose powers are still latent, and never manifested. Lovely, who is once again that dunce wandering around an abandoned amusement park to be found by Vincent. Which they are. But he's not quite the Vincent we know and love. He's still got humanity in him, but he's sadistic, too.
Lovely wants to be turned into a vampire. Vincent was never part of the pyramid scheme.
And, huzzah -_-, Adam is alive in this universe. He wasn't in the pyramid scheme program either because his maker had already reached Mass-Maker when she turned him. Oh and he and Vincent are lovers and it's totally not awkward at all hearing them make out in front of Lovely who is tranced so they can't move (but maybe that's because I'm a private person and PDA is awkward to me) while Adam is as creepy as ever—though Vincent is clearly displeased with the arrangement now. Apparently in the past, that wasn't the case but things change.
Anyway. They both feed on Lovely because, again, latent powers, potent blood, yada yada yada. But while Adam wants to drain Lovely dry right now, Vincent is like, "Bruh, that's dumb. If we keep them alive we can have that blood indefinitely." Adam basically tells Vincent to buzz off and Vincent does what Vincent does and rips Adam's head off. Again. Much to my genuine delight.
Personally it kinda felt, to me, like Erik was telling everyone who keeps wanting Adam to be alive to cool their jets because it's never gonna happen and that is fine with me. I can see why people would enjoy Adam as a character—I just very much don't.
From there, Vincent essentially... eh... not technically kidnaps... but he takes Lovely as something of a pet, I guess, so he can feed on their blood for, like, the rest of their life.
Then Echo welcomes you back to the canon universe and you can't help but feel mildly violated after listening to the whole thing between 12-3AM or so on a random night during which sleep escaped you (at least, that's how I experienced it), and you get a brief little bit of Asher and Babe (featuring Davey and Angel) being normal and happy and fine and there's still a lingering dread somewhere in the back of your mind...
That said, Erik has said that the Imperium is a creation of "Echo's" and that he has no plans for the universes to cross over. Which is great because I don't think I could handle that.
That's pretty much it! Sorry for the chaotic writing style. I was in a frenzied mindset when I wrote it and it took me... 2.5 hours? It's a 2.8k word explanation XD

B2:S - Chapter 3
Much of this series will be about the differences and additions in the novel version, and how they contribute to my understanding of story canon. But there will be character appreciation, the odd theory and headcanon, and suchlike as well.
Here be Lujanne, Callum, Rayla, Ezran, Bait, and Soren goodness!
Spoilers for Book Two: Sky below.
Lujanne having excellent fitness for all her walking around the Moon Nexus, and she's so energetic that Callum has trouble keeping up with her! She seems like those active grandmas who almost never stop moving, who have a lifelong supply of endless stamina. It makes me wonder if Lujanne will need that level of fitness for some upcoming conflict.
Callum feeling really hungry over not eating grubs and then still deciding he'd rather be hungry. It makes me wonder all over again how Lujanne got to the point where she eats grubs, considering that other Moonshadow elves we know of back in the Silvergrove don't. I still love my hc that the giant leech ate all of Lujanne's moonberry bushes and she's taking her revenge. Whatever's going on there, Callum is definitely not at that point yet.
When Lujanne asks Callum how he knows she's real, he thinks to himself that he'd put up with just about anything from someone who was going to teach him magic. That's a great parallel and foreshadowing for Viren's student/master relationship with Aaravos! And it's telling that neither student gets exactly what they hoped to get. Lujanne doesn't actively teach Callum any spells, because she believes he can't learn Moon magic at all. Aaravos does offer Viren power, but it takes him to some very dark places - literally and figuratively - and the cost is terribly high.
Callum sees a moon shape among the ruins, and Lujanne explains that the Moonhenge layout is an intricate rune that uses the structures themselves as part of its symbols and power. That's apparently a thing even with ordinary Moonshadow villages like Hollow Wood in the east, which is the coolest idea I've seen in a while: city planning as magic runes!
Tumblr media
Yes, that's the same shape as the pendants Ethari made for himself and Runaan. Protection? Home? Feelsiness? A sense of safety and belongnig for all cycles and seasons?
Wonder what this Moonhenge rune stands for, then, and how much of this landscape is included in that rune. I bet it's more than we think!
Tumblr media
But it makes sense now, how toppling the stone pillars would disable the spell the druids would cast to connect with the Moon Nexus lake. Breaking the infrastructure of the Moonhenge breaks the rune.
There's a physical sensation involved with the visuals that Historia Viventem brings up! When that one ghostly druid walked through Callum, he felt icy cold. Like in ghost stories. I really wonder about what exactly Historia Viventem is doing when it activates. It shows truth, "what really happened here?", so it must have some kind of time-related element, maybe tied to how the moon always repeats the same cycles or something. But it also seems to draw on the spirits of any living people involved in the flashback, because Callum could physically feel that wispy shape passing through him. So very interesting!
Orrr... is that all wrong, and there's something else at work with this spell than time? Maybe the world beyond life and death can act as an imprint of the things that have happened in the living world, and the spell that Lujanne (and later Callum) casts taps into that place, with perfect recall. I'm looking really hard at the sentence that says "dozens of translucent elf ghosts" and "phantom Moonhenge" and "lost in their own world" here.
Lujanne says more here than in the show about the world beyond life and death, being her mysterious Moonshadow-mage self. She says that "beyond" and "between" might both apply to where this other plane of existence is, and she doesn't much care which. With all the relativity swirling around this place, and not much in the way of empiricism, it's sounding like perhaps multiple conflicting ideas might actually coexist in such a place, allowing more ideas to fit there than we might normally believe is possible. Which is a fascinating bit of worldbuilding. Basically, every headcanon anyone has ever had about the Moon Nexus could all be true at the same time, for all we know.
Oh oh oh, Callum coming in soft with a secret wish! He takes one look at the Moonhenge and immediately thinks of finding a way to see his mom again! Poor boy, my heart! I'd say that could be another interesting parallel with Viren, but then, who wouldn't hold that sentiment?
Oh my, is this another breath of life into Ye Olde Ley Lines headcanon? Lujanne mentioning the Nexuses again, so soon after talking about the runic design of the entire Moonhenge, makes me wonder if the six nexuses are in fact giant runes. On Earth, the places where ley lines cross are called nexuses, and there are those who believe those points got marked with ancient structures, like Stonehenge and many many others. If Xadia were crossed with magical lines which naturally formed nexus points where they met, and if powerful magical runes were built across those entire areas, well. That would be cool beans, fams. Can I smack a map of Xadia and release a spell like Luz Noceda does? Because ngl that is my first instinct here.
Lujanne has got to be missing some grandkids to spoil, right? The way she's always whipping out cake and ice cream for Callum, and she's so grandma-ish about it. Headcanon about her being Runaan's mom aside, she is canonically lonely and she's very sweet to Allen and Ellis and I think she's missing whatever family she once had in the past. She may never get to have that family back, so she's finding a new one among the humans who live nearby, and I think that's sweet. Found family isn't just for the young.
But Ellis is straight up gonna be her fave, I bet, because she didn't turn up her nose at Lujanne's illusion food!
Ezran and Bait have a lot more to their relationship than was visible in the show, and I'm so excited by it! Ez can tell by looking at Bait's colors that he's not truly jealous of Zym, even if he's really grumpy about the dragonling taking up his favorite human's time.
And Ez thinking a lot about his dad and the things he's taught him. They're soft leadership material, and I love that so much! "Pick your battles" and the importance of encouragement. Ahh, my heart. Ezran, you're going to be such a good king.
But wait a second: both times that Bait gets extra grumpy in Zym's first training session, Ezran has just mentioned something about flying. Guys, I think Bait wishes he could fly, really badly. And that's his biggest problem with Zym, and with Ezran teaching Zym to fly, instead of Bait who doesn't have wings so. Bait is so old that his secrets have secrets, and I'm really curious how flying fits into them now!
Rayla, Dramatic Assassin: "I need to patrol for dark forces." That's what Lujanne called the source of the purple wisps that found them. I wonder if that's an official term all Moonshadows know, or if Rayla is just taking her cue from a veteran Moon mage. And I wonder how far Rayla is falling into the apparent pattern of "one mage, one assassin", since she does spend a lot of her time patrolling without being asked.
When Callum tells Lujanne that he was bad at prince stuff, and she asks if he didn't give up and got good at those things anyway, it's an opportunity for Callum to embrace subverting his parents' expectations in favor of seeking his own path, which is a primary theme of the show. But Lujanne is a couple generations older than Callum, at the very least, and I have to wonder what her upbringing was like. Is her version of success the one she took? Was she bad at magic once too, but she persisted? She is very soft and doesn't want to kill anyone.
Maybe Lujanne had dreams of doing something else with her life, but she felt she had to pursue the destiny that others handed to her, so she studied magic as hard as she could, and she did get good at it, but using it to defend Xadia from humans is not what she wanted to do with her life. Whether there's a parallel between her and Ethari on that point, there's one between Callum and Ethari, I think. How much of your life are you willing to let others direct for you?
LISTEN I WAS DYING AT THE EAR BREAD SCENE OKAY
This is my new favorite Soren and Claudia moment ever. Soren loves him his bread, okay. Even as earplugs for Claudia's sleep ocarina tune. The fact that it's "super effective" makes me think of a Pokemon defense. The fact that he learned it at camp, where he also learned about Moonshadow Madness, is hilarious. Later on, Corvus doesn't know Soren by name, but I still love the idea of Corvus being a kind of Strider-esque camp instructor, filling the ears of his young charges with all kinds of useful tactics like ear bread for magic spell songs (which actually seemed to work as intended), and warnings about the enemy elves' blood-themed tactics (which may or may not come back around in BH)
I thought they were gonna go in a kind of deep direction when Soren still wanted his ear bread back, but then he just. Eats them. Just noms them. I love this kid. Give Soren all the bread!

Fic Writer Tag Game
I was tagged to do this by @allegoriesinmediasres but it had already gone round Dreamwidth this last week, so I did it there.  I’ll try and c+p it over here, too!
1) How many works do you have on AO3? 620 (but I've been writing a lot of short things since around 2006-7, and there might even still be a couple of the 1994-98 fic from the newsgroups up). 2) What’s your total AO3 word count? 1,476,147 (but this does include about 300,000 words of origfic for RaTs and rainbowfic that are collected into three works, so it doesn't affect the works no too much, but it does affect the wordcount.) 3) How many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Too many to list here!  A lot.  *nods* 4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos? People, it's still Miss Marple.  Maybe one day it won't be Miss Marple, but today is not that day. (ETA: whenever i do my top AO3 fic on these memes, it’s disproportionately Miss Marple.  I am bemused.) Miss Marple: The Spirit of St Mary Mead So We Meet at Last Not Miss Marple: it's the rain that will strengthen your soul (SW Prequels) Five Times the Doctor Got in the Way of Captain Janeway (and One Time They Got Along Just Fine) (DW/ST) By the Book (Origfic) (Oh, wow, By the Book keeps moving up.  It must get recced sometimes, somewhere, mustn't it?  0_o ♥) 5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? Yes.  Fanfic is a lot my way of being social, which is why I don't get along with the new push-button web much.  Like, kudos is fine, ok, but I just wanted to talk to people, and via fic always seems to be one of the nicest ways to do it. 6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? Oh, I don't know. I like being bleak sometimes when I feel like it.  It might be the EatD one with the two Generals, but honestly there were a few in my mid-illness old bleak telly watching years, and the Level 7 one or the one from Children of the Damned might be even more so?  Or some S&S stuff, too?  I mean, I wrote S&S plane crash fic and weird drabbles.  (I blame my fandoms!  It's not my fault!  *innocent*) Also I keep doing Clara splinter fic, so I keep killing Clara and it's always sadder than I expect when I get there.  You'd think I'd learn by now, or just not kill this splinter, but, nooo, hey, how about MORE Clara splinter death, self?  /o\ Oh, no, wait: it's probably Spooks!  Spooks is also bleak and how about my tiny ficlet of death, Litany of the Fallen? Oh, actually, if I listen to people who aren't me, it's that B7 Avon/Servalan one, which I was always a bit: BUT I WROTE ONE WHERE THEY WON about it and everyone else was all THIS IS THE WORST in the comments.  Sorry? The Quality of Mercy (Is Most Definitely Strained)  (I still think the ending of Compendium is more angsty!  It has double death!) (Ok, it's me.  I like being bleak and angsty when I'm doing it.  I'm less sure when someone else is doing it at me, of course. ;-p) 7) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? I honestly don't know.  I'm usually kind of gen and happy and sometimes even humorous, and keep canon's tone, and DW is fairly light most of the time. I tried searching on Happy, but I have never tagged anything as happy.  But probably it is an AAL! thing, because AAL! is happiness in b&w TV form basically.  Maybe of Of Human Bondage (or Five Times Adam and His Friends Found Themselves All Tied Up)?  But I like all the AAL! ones I wrote for Yuletide, because they were the ones where I tried to be closest to an episode, and that makes them the most fun to re-read. 8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written? I have a crossover in my top 5, so yes.  I'm a DW fan; crossovers are just far too obvious a temptation when you've got a TARDIS.  What DW fic writer hasn't managed at least one once somewhere?  And I might have, um, written a lot of them.  (AO3 says 126). I did once, way back in newsnet times, when we were having a debate over what you could and couldn't cross DW over with (and I was on Team You Can Cross It With Anything You Cowards), write a DW/Rainbow drabble.  But I don't think I put that on AO3.  I think it might be on Teaspoon.   In AO3 works, I think by far the silliest is the Baldrick/Steed one, which AstroGirl said I couldn't write.  (It was an Unconventional Courtship summary, not that they randomly dared me to write Baldrick/Steed.  I mean, some of my flist totally would have done if they'd thought of it, but not in this case.) 9) Have you ever received hate on a fic? Not really.  I've had some weird comments, but the nearest I've come to hate was one of the comments that time I tried to write Swan Queen fic and it wasn't happy enough for people.  (I wrote a happy one after, but the ifrst one was set quite early, Regina was still kind of evil!) 10) Do you write smut? If so what kind? Alas, no.  Although, ish, if we count my experimental elemental shipping phase, which included The Cornfield (Silver/Steel/(Sapphire)), which is the only time anyone called any of my fic sexy.  I would totally have that comment made into a medal or something.   11) Have you ever had a fic stolen? Other than the random scraping things that have gone round over the years, no. 12) Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes!  Several people have been kind enough to do this, usually into Russian, and usually (but not always!) Miss Marple. 13) Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, and no - in adwc days we all co-authored round robins, which were a blast and highly frustrating.  I think it'd be fun, but barring the odd bit of drabble tennis with various flisters back in the day, it's not really something that's worked out.  (I'm thinking, I could have all the ideas, they could do all the writing, I could criticise?? XD) 14) What’s your all time favorite ship? My Relationships count is very misleading here, because I think it actually is (including in terms of things written for it), Sapphire/Silver/Steel, but it's a weird thing, so sometimes I tag it platonically, and sometimes I don't necessarily tag it at all for that reason, and also I think it puts people off unnecessarily.  (But it's a Lie when I don't tag it.  All my Sapphire & Silver & Steel is inherently OT3 even if no one else can see it.) 15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? None.  I have unposted WIPs, but I do hope to finish those, and the only posted WIP is a very old one only on Teaspoon that was begun before I was ill and I can't even really say at this point that I would want to finish it. 16) What are your writing strengths? Character/dialogue, I think?  I am actually not that bad at plot, but currently I lack the stamina for long things. I like to think I can be quite funny when I'm in the mood. 17) What are your writing weaknesses? Description, action.  Argh.  Yes, let's just talk some more, okay? 18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I was going to say I would never, but actually I did!  I wrote Y Gwyll | Hinterland fic, and it wouldn't be right not to have some Welsh in that.  However, while I may be a 1/4 Welsh and know some Welsh words, I don't actually speak it, so I had to turn to Llywela who was very kind and translated the sentences I needed.  (I added the English translation in the footnote.)  This was the fic, but basically language is important in canon (ironically maybe even more so in the Eng-lang version I watched than the original Welsh), and so it was also important in the fic. So, probably if it was a canon where it was required, then I would do what I could to get help to get it right?  The good thing about the internet is that you can usually find someone, although usefully for me, I already knew someone. 19) What was the first fandom you wrote for? Doctor Who! 20) What’s your favorite fic you’ve written? I'm going to wimp out on this along with everyone else.  Although... if any of you have a fave fic of mine, that would be very cool to hear!  (But I don't expect anyone to.) Sometimes I'm pleased enough with the latest to feel it's that, but that's not always the case, and it isn't currently.  (No, offence, Latest Works!  I like you, it just only happens once in a while, usually when I've managed something I've wanted to do for years.)
I won’t tag anyone, because I know lots of people also did this on Dreamwidth, but it’s always VERY cool to see people’s answers to these things and memes are for stealing.

Dear Every Woman Writer
Hello, lovely writer!
I’m reconditarmonia here and on AO3 (and have been since LJ days, but my LJ is locked down and I only have a DW to see locked things).
General likes:
– Relationships that aren’t built on romance or attraction. They can be romantic or sexual as well, but my favorite ships are all ones where it would still be interesting or compelling if the romantic component never materialized.
– Loyalty kink, whether commander-subordinate or comrades-in-arms, and the trust associated with it. Sometimes-but-not-always relatedly, idealism. I guess the two combined might be, in general, the idea of nobility of character and what that means.
– Heists, or other stories where there’s a lot of planning and then we see how the plan goes.
– Femslash, complicated or intense relationships between women, and female-centric gen. Women doing “male” stuff.
– Stories whose emotional climax or resolution isn’t the sex scene, if there is one.
– Uniforms/costumes/clothing.
– Stories, history, and performance. What gets told and how, what doesn’t get told or written down, behavior in a society where everyone’s consuming media and aware of its tropes, how people create their personas and script their own lines.
– Eucatastrophe.
General DNW: rape/dubcon, torture, other creative gore; unrequested AUs, including “same setting, different rules” AUs such as soulmates/soulbonds; PWP; food sex.
Fandom: Far from the Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy
Characters/Groups: Bathsheba Everdene
One thing that always sticks in my mind about this novel is the way Hardy calls Bathsheba “the young farmer” just as he refers to the men as farmers - which, just saying, is more than most people writing about this story can do - and so, that being the case, what I’m most interested in is something about Bathsheba as farmer. One day in the life or four seasons in the life or five plantings/harvests in the life, or pseudo-academic fic about a case study of a woman farmer in the Victorian era, or a conflict between the farm and nature that Bathsheba has to decide how to solve.
Feel free to bring in other characters if it suits what you’re trying to do, but what I’m really looking for is a focus on Bathsheba’s work, determination, and process of learning. I’d also love to read something like a merchant ship AU (as the first alternate setting that came to mind where it would be not exactly the done thing for her to captain her inherited ship and make commercial decisions herself - although I do have to point out that contrary to popular belief, there were a lot of women on shipboard in the age of sail, may this be useful - but also where nature and luck/fate are as influential as they are in the original setting), or something in which the land, superstition, and ritual were more overtly magical.
Fandom: Monstrous Regiment - Terry Pratchett
Characters/Groups: Polly "Ozzer" Perks & Jack Jackrum, Polly Perks & Maladict, Magda "Tonker" Halter & Tilda "Lofty" Tewt, Polly "Ozzer" Perks, Alice "Wazzer" Goom, Jack Jackrum, Mildred Froc
Give me all the loyalty kink for this fandom. Characters rescuing each other from peril, risking their reputation or position or ethics to defend each other, accomplishing the impossible or sacrificing things without even thinking twice because one trusts the other’s orders or judgment. Or A not going off the leash or into danger to defend B because B said not to, to protect A’s conscience or life or reputation. Can be romantic or platonic - I ship Polly/Mal and Tonker/Lofty, but I would also be delighted with Polly&Jackrum, Wazzer&Polly, or other non-romantic twosomes or moresomes in situations of loyalty and trust. Maybe Polly sends Mal on a dangerous mission, or Tonker is captured after she and Lofty burn down another place where women and girls are being abused, or Polly protects Jackrum’s secret/s from someone who could reveal them, or Wazzer ends up in the field again with the general’s retinue and Polly and Mal rescue her from danger (or vice versa!!). What strengths or sacrifices do they have at their disposal for each other?
Pratchett-esque voices would be great. He’s really, really good at sucker-punching the reader with sincerity in an overall satiric mode, and I think that style lends itself well to this sort of thing.
I’m not going to lie, Polly is my fave. I like that this could have been a generic coming-of-age or women-in-war story, where the protagonist learns that she’s brave or worthwhile and then the crisis is past, but instead Polly learns that she’s a cunning bastard and a hell of a sergeant, and being a one-off hero in a country that’s at peace and making slow social progress isn’t good enough for her. That said, just because I’m better able to articulate what I like about Polly doesn’t mean I’d be less excited for fic about anyone else! And I know that we might have matched on single characters, rather than groups, and that’s just fine. I think that’s something I’d want to explore for any of the characters who enlist in the course of the story - what are these women good at? What lets them fulfill their potential? What do they want when their hand isn’t being forced? I guess that for most of the regiment this would be post-canon and for Jackrum or Froc it’d be backstory. How’d Jackrum go from enlisting for Reasons to being the career sergeant of canon? What’s Froc’s relationship to the Duchess been like over the years, as someone who met her in person?
If you’re going the Polly/Mal route, I also love ludicrous levels of sexual tension in a military context (I think it’s the unavoidable proximity + the presence of others making it hard to act on it).
Fandom-specific DNW: vampire romance tropes (such as turning and/or immortality) as focus; non-female pronouns/headcanons.
Fandom: Original Work
Characters: Commissioned Officer & Non-Commissioned Officer, Female Re-Enactor Playing Male Soldier & Female Re-Enactor Playing Woman, Chaotic good Berserker & Officer she's absolutely loyal to, Crossdressing Fugitive Princess
Um, so, I’ve never requested original work before, but these are...certainly some options that play well with my general likes. Something that I also notice across these requests, other than the fact that most of them are military-related or otherwise have to do with clothing and/or women doing “man” stuff, is that there are a lot of options for exploring how characters with different skillsets and/or values play together. When there’s a problem to solve, especially in a high-risk and high-emotion situation, what happens when they don’t agree on what to do?
As far as setting goes, I think I’d been envisioning the CO & NCO and Berserker & Officer as taking place in a setting that’s removed from us in some way - whether that’s a fictionalized version of a historic military where women can be soldiers, actual historic settings where both are cross-dressing as men, total fantasy settings or future space settings. Likewise I imagine the Fugitive Princess might work better in a fictional or historical setting. The re-enactor pairing could be in our real present day in a way that might not work for the others, but it could equally well be future people or fantasy people!
Romance between any of these pairs, or between the Crossdressing Fugitive Princess and a female character - whether a rival or tyrant she’s a fugitive from, an old ally, someone new she meets while in disguise - is lovely :D (I neglected to officially DNW this so I suppose I could be screwed, but I don’t want het for these. I’m also less interested in, like, orc or goblin characters if you write a fantasy setting, but I didn’t think to DNW that either. :|)
Fandom: Simoun (Anime)
Characters: Neviril, Aaeru & Neviril, Paraietta, Rodoreamon, Mamiina
Simoun somehow ended up being a really weirdly meaningful show to me. I loved how all these women got to be flawed and fucked-up, noble and loyal. How, in the mold of all my favorite epic shoujo anime, it starts off beautiful and fine and then Shit Gets Very Real and that’s actually one of the themes of the show - we had a little debate on FFA as to whether or not Simoun was a military canon, and the fact that circumstances have remade a team of priestesses in fancy quarters and magic flying machines who are there to pray to God, put off their choice of sex, use their talents, maintain or claw their way into a social position, into a military force involved in a war - that’s an idea that the characters themselves struggle with in the show. (Neviril’s scene in the hearing is one of my favorites.) How everyone gets character development, in the sense of learning and changing, and even what seem like annoying mandatory straight subplots actually end up serving that thematic or character development, to say nothing of the more focal relationships between the leads (not just Neviril and Aeru, but also Mamiina and Rodoreamon, Neviril and Paraietta…)
I’d really like to read a fic where an individual character’s development or two characters’ relationship is similarly tied in to plot developments; it doesn’t have to be a plotty fic as such, but I was very interested in the way the developments of the war and the pilots/priestesses’ actions in it precipitated changes in their relationships. So how might Neviril and Aeru’s relationship develop in the other world (what are they doing?), or Mamiina and Rodoreamon’s on the Messis when they’re not the narrative focus before Mamiina’s last mission and the braid thing? (Or if this is more your speed, dig into that and see how a character grows or the relationship between characters develops when that’s not being moved along by outside events in the same way, especially if they’re aware of that being an issue. When Neviril and Aeru are outside the normal flow of time, or Paraietta ends up a civilian, for example.) I’m also interested in all the permutations of loyalty we see in the show - like loyalty to a position over loyalty to a side (as with the Plumbish priestesses’ siding with our Sibyllae), loyalty that develops before liking or friendship, the devoted loyalty to Neviril. I like the show’s military themes despite its magical-girl visuals. I think this is also a canon where it would make sense for sexual first times to be part of a fic - what does that mean for the characters you choose?
I should also say that due to all the magic and timespace warping in the show, I am more than okay with post-canon fic that gets characters back together who were separated by canon, if that’s what you want. You can resurrect Mamiina, or have Neviril and Aeru visit the main reality/timeline again. Or play with timespace even more - time loop fic?

primes And multiples of 8
oh Thank You this sure turned out to be a bunch of questions lol, what else is better for keeping occupied on go stupid sunday
2: Favorite book?
lbh i don’t have one
3: Favorite fictional character?
oh god lmao i mean again when it comes to Favorite ___ i have no *real* answers but atm i keep just sitting here staring at the quant don’t i
5: What’s your favorite fictional ship? (Canon or otherwise)
even with the “i don’t have Favorite anything” factor even this is always like. my ass doesn’t know how to Not like, think up a good half dozen or more potential relationships or whatever and decide they’re all fun……im rarely like “wow even narrowed down to this one particular Media i live and die by this otp within it”…….boring answer but really like even if this was applied Just to some particular work where i’m [staring at a Fave] or whatever i still dunno if there’s anything where i’m not #about [multiple possible Relationships]
7: List 3 negative traits you have
ooh fantastic. let’s lump “Too: passive / avoidant / nonconfrontational” into one, rest in pieces u_u. #2 im a lil temperamental lmao like, bit too much sometimes. #3 despite number one there i also don’t have a world of restraint lmfao which is just like. how i be but can certainly be a downside sometimes
8: How does someone become important to you?
idk i virtually always meet ppl via Mutual Interest……my social sphere is mainly “friendly acquaintances” or whatever where it’s like i may or may not have talked to most of them in the past >[0.5 years]………just a process really of “we Keep Interacting” and “we like each other” lmao like. it’s both very not difficult and also. difficult lol
11: How do you decide when it’s time to cut someone out of your life for good?
uhh not like there’s a strict analytical methodology here but i guess it’s like “hmm this person makes me p miserable / i do not even actually like having them in my life” lmao
13: What are your favorite lyrics currently?
ooh the “currently” Might make a Favorite question easier but i don’t even have Favorite Lyrics Currently lmao. it’s lucky if i’m even paying attention well enough to stuff to absorb the lyrics the first like dozen times i listen to a song and also i’m rarely like “oo Resonant” when it comes to lyrics anyway?? does it count if more than survive gets stuck in my head….even then it’s like. i always like the “of all the characters at school i am not the one who the story’s about” while Blatantly Being The Protagonist lmao b/c like…..idk i never like story structures where the protagonist is just like clearly kinda elevated like Obviously The Hero B/c They’re Better Than Everyone Around Them or something like more important / deserving than other people and i definitely find it harder to care about / connect with Protagonists / ~main characters~ who are treated like that. and obviously bmc is really not about that either lmao i appreciate that a lot
16: What is something you really want?
i think we can all agree our lives could be improved with money. also….in these times of covid…….. :| would want literal immunity for people……..april 2020……
17: If you could make a wish, what would you wish for if you knew it would come true?
i mean damn see above like. got the Wish Tiers like “personal things re: myself in particular” and “for people i personally know / smaller stuff i care about” but like damn in this day and age especially it’d be like well, Humanity Not Being Destroyed is kinda a thing isn’t it. can’t have any slightly more fun wishes b/c these [systems] will be like [exists and affects everything horribly]
19: How do you handle heartbreak? Is it something that’s easy for you to get over, or something you struggle with?
is it easy for anyone to get over!! i don’t have to deal with romantic heartbreak though which i guess is what it means. galaxy braining that issue lmfao
23: What do you want your future to be like?
man ties in with 16 and 17 but also like we sure exist under capitalism always don’t we, and it’s tricky when like “it would be nice to have a small personal apartment to live in wouldn’t it” is this fever dream for all of us. but it Would be nice. having the time and money for Making Food whenever you feel like, right. it’s always like “if i was in a situation where i could just bake something due to Feeling like it i’d probably be doing okay” lmao. love to have access to healthcare someday. it’s all like depressingly low standards that are also depressingly ~unrealistic~ lol like i do not Ponder the future much. i also don’t have like, longtime aspirations/dreams or even Not longtime ones so i can’t be like “would love to have a career in/doing ___” but also yknow im good with I Don’t Need A Dream Job, would just like jobs to be non-horrible and to have time to like, do shit on my own outside of that, b/c that’s what i like to do lol…..but then also it would be fun to like, one way or another, get to spend a lot of time putting effort into some kind of in-some-way-Collaborative Project / Endeavor and get to be really engaged. the idea of getting to be around multiple people who it’s fun to be around and it doesn’t feel super temporary is Wild like, intimidating to listen to “the bar song” b/c i’ll just cry after 3 seconds. also i just like to be around people like, used to think that being anxious and all i wouldn’t want to live in a city but probably the opposite’s true….yeah i like to have a space where i can be alone / unobserved but i also like to at any time be able to be Amongst ppl even if not interacting with them (and also im usually more relaxed interacting w/ strangers than ppl i know)…….but really i have no details i’m just fingers crossed that at any given time i’m more than a couple steps away from like the post about [body wearing the funniest hat you’ve ever seen] lmfao and like. would rather not die in a pandemic either
24: Have you ever met someone you never thought you’d become close to?
in an “and i was right” way, sure lol, but otherwise i don’t think so
29: Do you think zodiac signs can influence someone’s personality to an extent?
it’s like Not Really But How Would I Know and yet i’m gonna kill everybody doing the shit just treating it like alternate myer-briggs types like delete your tweets
31: What does ‘self care’ look like for you?
#selfcare idk. me passing out or making the effort of getting food? great to step outside and pet a cat i guess but also that’s just fun. i don’t have a real methodology or approach here either. is me reblogging ask memes to ask for attention / distraction self care? is Napping to reset the mood self care? you be the judge
32: If you could go back in time and re-live your life up to this point, knowing everything that you know now, would you make different decisions?
eh not really……tfw everything that is the way it is now including “knowing what you know now” is a result of everything having happened exactly the way it already did……..
37: Have you ever been surprised by someone staying in your life?
i’m like Only surprised by it
40: What makes you feel confident?
thinking abt the tweet(?) which is like “when ur walking around in public pretend crazy in love is playing”……being around the lgbtqs obviously…..feeling able to Be Funny b/c like. that depends on the people i’m around too lol.
41: How do you show you care?
love languages……..uh i will do Favors. acts of service or whatever lol. i also like to give gifts. compliments??? idk it’s hard to judge this lmao i will cheer someone on, usually figuratively lol…….Liking A Tweet idk. an attempt was made
43: Which of the seven deadly sins do you feel represents you the most?
we need better sins. am i vainglorious for being opinionated / stubborn. "being not cishet” probably would be considered lust, and that’s a pretty important thing lmao. lust for life….the illicit sexual desire of being An Lgbtq…… i feel like i can be impatient, so i supposed that’s wrathfulness……hard to choose just one and yet again also. the list bites
47: What are you passionate about?
easily a lot of stuff that i find Engaging b/c i’m just sort of like that but i mean. easy answer is just: [interests]
48: Have you ever started to try learning about a subject only to realize it’s not something you enjoy?
not really……if i’m trying to learn something myself i probably had some level of “already knowing i like it to some degree” to even have the motivation in the first place

MUN QUESTIONS.
Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own  movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be  filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ?           A1 :   Man I’ve always low-key dreamed about Neff having her own anime or vidja gaem but I feel like it would be called something similar to my url like Cosmic Dreamer and it would be a story about self discovery and self love. Like despite the huge thing she’s involved in that makes her very important what matters most is how she sees herself and the decisions she makes for herself you know? Q2 :   what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ?           A2 :   Man okay it’s pretty much the music player on the blog. Alternative rock, acoustic, really kind of mysterious vocals. Good stuff. Q3 :   why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ?           A3 :   Neff is my baby and she stands for a lot that I think people can appreciate. She’s got a personality disorder, she’s LGBTQA+, she’s POC, she’s within all the minorities as a ‘main character’ and unapologetically so.  Q4 :   what  first  attracted  you  to  this  character ?           A4 :   Okay so I have an assload of OCs and originally my main fave was a character named Caprice aka Capi. She’s my oldest and longest ‘living’ OC I guess you can say. But when I made Neff she became even more of a breakthrough. Obviously there’s some bias with her being based on me and my experiences and all (even though I kinda hate myself so that’s a bit ironic), but the fact that she’s someone who does what I can’t is a healthy outlet for me for expression. Q5 :   describe  the  biggest  thing  you  dislike  about  your  muse.           A5 :   What I like most is also what I hate most and that is our similarities. Being hyper aware of your bad traits can drive you up a wall. Q6 :   what  do  you  have  in  common  with  your  muse ?           A6 :   Neff is pretty much my life story with added tweaks to make it extra dramatic because I’m a piece of shit : D Q7 :   how  does  your  muse  feel  about  you ?           A7 :   I MEAN I’D HOPE SHE LIKES ME I’M KINDA HER MOM Q8 :   what  characters  does  your  muse  have  interesting  interactions  with ?         A8 :   I mean I think every interaction is an interesting one.   Q9 :   what  gives  you  inspiration  to  write  your  muse ?         A9 :   A lot fo the ‘what ifs’ I ask myself with my own experiences and just things in general. Q10 :   how  long  did  this  take  you  to  complete ?           A10 :   Too damn long.
