Sir Cain clenched his sword. This wasn't part of the plan. He was to bring you to the designated meet up spot. There shed get answers. Answers on why you kept this from her.
"Reschedule, my lord? My lady would be quite upset with that. They have been having weekly meet-ups for Months now. To deviate from that with out notice..."
"Notice? Good sir I'll have you know this was rather spontaneous. She wouldn't have been able to give notice." Crevan was not happy. He supposed to be planning his wedding with you and your family. He supposed to be discussing food, decorations, venues and color palletes with you. Instead he was talking with him.
"I.... See." Cain Brantley was angry. He was being delayed. Delayed by you. Delayed by his superior. He clenched his teeth and took a deep breath. This wasn't over. "Ill... notify my lady of this... Change of schedule. I do... hope that lady callum will write so her soon?"
"we shall see." Crevan was smart. He knew that a scene at the front of your mansion wouldn't do your image well. He knew that anymore then this would cause sir Cain to go into a rage. Ceremonial his sword maybe it was still sharp. "Do give your lady our well wishes?"
"I... Will." Cain Brantley bowed not nearly enough. But he was leaving and that was all that mattered.
Bad End: Kept Safe (1)
[Art by Miu_A]
You ever give someone advice, knowing full well they aren't going to take it? Even AFTER they have begged and pleaded and WHINED at you, for hours, for it? Even after they poured their heart and soul out to you? And you, a good friend, carefully and tactfully, tried your best to help? LIKE THEY ASKED?
Ever find yourself the designated "run too dramatically weep in the arms off" friend?
I have.
It is hell. I am in hell.
This is my punishment for all those hours I spent reading and playing Otome Isekai junk instead of, I don't know, solving world hunger or something. Because it HAS to be. I am clearly being punished. Repeatedly. By some sort of petty, petty, anime God.
Fuck you too, buddy.
A fresh round of highly dramatic Protagonist sobbing peirces the air. Dear lord, she has a set of lungs on her, does she? It's like an air siren. But more... upset toddler. It was bizarre. I'd LIKED her as a character. I HAD. Bright and cheerful, determined with a good heart. She'd been a bit naive, yes, but she'd grown. Love had changed her for the better.
But THIS?
This was some middle school "he threw away my secret note, that I didn't sign, so that means he HATES MEEEEE~" bullshit. It went on and on and ON! God, it'd been MONTHS! Years!
I made friends with the Protagonist when we were in The Royal Academy. The story's setting. It SHOULD have finished by graduation. SHOULD. HAVE. But DID it? No! This nonsense had spilled into the COURT! The general population! Actual political factions were starting to get involved!
All because my "friend" COULDN'T PICK A MAN.
And she didn't listen. I tried. God, how I TRIED! No matter HOW I phrased "just fucking TALK to them" it didn't get through her dense fucking skull. I tried taking a break. To calm down. She HUNTED ME DOWN with her little Harem of political trainwrecks!
That poor port city STILL has yet to recover from the chaos they unleashed.
I don't... God, I don't even LIKE her anymore. I've just been reduced to her HANDLER. Forced into girlish tea parties devoid of any taste, because no one ELSE will come. Followed by winces and pitying looks by every lady in all of polite society. The sacrifice to keep HER distracted, lest her gaurd dogs decide its a good idea to do something unhinged again.
It's exhausting.
I'm not even listening.
She seems to have worked through her usual cycle of "cry, mope, what about meeeee~, then I going to go be Plucky at them! Tee Hee~♡!". Good, good. You go have fun, you little train wreck. I'm going to go find an actual ADULT to hide behind.
I have my maids change me out of an outfit that, frankly? I am too old for. I am not sixteen. We are not GIRLS, for the heaven's sake. We are WOMEN. It was a cute outfit. I enjoyed wearing it, back when I was physically young enough that it was appropriate. But even THEN... that's the down side of the whole "isekai" thing.
You keep your mental age.
Everyone around you? INFANTS. Fresh faced babies. You are being flirted with by fourteen year olds and? It is DISGUSTING. They can never be anything more then "cute kids" to you. The characters you once thirsted over? Reduced to actual, living, breathing, pre-schoolers.
There's no going back after that. I'll NEVER unsee it. Can only continue to age, even as they simply... grow up. And then? When they started behaving like FOUR YEAR OLDS? Forget it! I'm beginning to share my parents fears I may die single.
At least I have a refuge. A place of SANITY and SENSE.
I grab the imported wine I had purchased. I'd noticed him drink it before on special occasions. Found a tea seller that was willing to also bring some back. Mother LOVED the tea and my friend was going to love the wine, I could just tell.
Cautiously poking my head out of the guest apartments i was staying in, I checked the hall. Left. Right. Left. Thank god. No Protagonist in sight, she hasn't come back yet. Better hurry though.
I walk fast and keep close to the wall. Ducking into alcoves at every new female voice. Passing servants, Nobles, and the occasional Knight either murmur what they know of Protagonist's last known location or politely pretend not to see me. For anyone else, this would be scandalous behavior. For ME? Well... everyone knew EXACTLY why I was being driven to such extremes.
I thankfully reached the governance wing unmolested. It was far quite and none of the pack of fools ever really set foot here. Not ever the ones who were SUPPOSED to be busy learning their future roles as leaders of this country. God, I could only hope the third prince somehow quietly pulls a coup.
Not that I'd SAY that.
The gaurds don't even bother to announce me, I'm here so often. Merely opening the door. I maintain my decorum none the less. JUST long enough for the doors to finally close and I am able to drop my social mask like whipping of my bra after a long day. Oh thank fuuuuuuck. FREEDOM!
A familiar chuckle, like incense smoke, wafts from the second floor of the office.
"Oh my~, so tired?" My friend muses, his voice that ever lilting purr. I hear him closing whatever heavy tome he's currently studying. "And so early in the DAY! Was it the little nuisance again? Surely she must have SOMETHING better to do?"
Gently putting the wine I'm gifting him on his desk, I then throw up my arms. You would THINK! Wouldn't you?! It's an old complaint. And frankly? I'm glad he still let's me vent about it. It HAS to get old. Yet? He let's me complain anyway.
I met the, roughly translated, "Keeper Of The Shield" at one of the Crown Prince's many ridiculous parties. I was dragged along as Protagonist's plus one. Because GOD FORBID she bring one of her suitors! That might lean towards CHOICE! Can't have THAT!
It was an overly dramatic, gaudy, slow motion trainwreck from beginning to end. I? Got very, VERY drunk. I knew I shouldn't. It was wildly inappropriate. But I was HORRIFIED. Hid near the balconies and drank to forget. Contemplating jumping.
Was likely the only one there my age NOT in ten layers of bows and fabric flowers. It was probably why Crevan decide to talk to me. That and the look of abject suffering. He informed that, sadly, the balconies were locked. But if I planned to maim my self to escape, he could probably boost me up enough to reach the upper windows.
I choked on my drink and guffawd like an idiot. It was SUPER flattering. Very pretty. And honestly? The best conversation I'd had in YEARS. He was droll. Witty. Snarky. In just as much hell as I was. We gleefully narrated the drama playing out before us in as cutting a manner as possible. Grown adults, government officals! Behaving like fucking CHILDREN.
Only after, did I learn I had been chatting with the equivalent of the minister of the Defense. THE commander of our nation's defensive forces. All of them. Knights, army, spies. All of it. And the poor man had been dragged from his desk to play party prop by a glorified teenager. I was horrified. Appalled. Fucking OUTRAGED to learn that it was just... normal!
This country was a nightmare! Otome games are HELL. Lacey, sparkly HELL!!!
But at least I had Crevan to keep me sane. He was always willing to listen. Advise when he could. We had HOPED that Protagonist would start maturing... I'd even mentioned it, but it just seemed like she back slid again and again! Trapping me. Isolating me! Ruining my chances to move ON and have a LIFE!
I don't know what went wrong! Is it me? Am I too hand holdy? It's starting to destabilize the country! Not that the royal family even seems to notice! God no, if it weren't for Crevan, the whole PLACE would have collapsed!
I flop down on my couch. Technically it's not "mine", but honestly? He's fooling no one. The man barely had ANY guest furniture before we became friends. It's totally my couch. (He even got a tea table for us, the softy.)
"Oh? A gift? How thoughtful, dear~" It's only months of friendship that keep from jumping these days. I should get that man a BELL. "Would you like some?"
I can't help but huff a laugh. He always looks to PLEASED when he gets the jump on someone. Startles them. A mischievous asshole, that one. Touchy, too. Forever cupping my cheek or earnestly taking my hand. Patting my head. Guiding me by the elbow or shoulder. He has so few friends... I am certain he is touch starved.
A thought occurs to him, as he pours two cups. A sly grin stretching across his face as he turns to offer me a cup. The wine's scent mixes, burning and delicate, with the ever present smells of incense and his favorite herbal cigarettes. Blurring the senses and relaxing. It's a pretty strong drink.
"You KNOW... it just occurs to me! Darling, if you want to avoid that pest? Why not spend the day HERE? I'd love to have you. " his voice becomes low and serious for a moment, almost catching me off gaurd, bouncing back before I can really think about it. "You could trash my shelves again! Camp out on my couches! It'll be like a little party~ Just you and me! Not a care in the world. You won't have to worry a single thing~"
He grins, glasses catching the light, toothy like the old scheming fox he is.
"I'll keep you nice and safe~"

A poem for Eos, Helios and Selene
I sing of early-born Eos, whose cloak is of sweet dew
Who runs her rosy-fingered hand trough the sky as the day begins anew
Casting away darkness and dispelling murky gloom
As the choirs of birds sing her praises and flowers get ready to bloom
Soft-winged goddess, mother of the morning star
Shining from among the clouds, smiling at the world from afar
I sing of Helios, crowned in rays, who rides trough the sky pulled by fiery steeds
From his glorious chariot he watches over mankind’s deeds
Those who do evil he punishes with red-hot rage, he burns to smoke and ash their wicked smiles
Those who do good he rewards with a gladdened heart, helping them trough their journeys as he watches over their lives
For he is the golden mirror of justice who makes all reap what they sow
Wether it be for better or for worse
His warm smile charms countless nymph’s hearts and makes trees bear fruit
As the flower-faced Horae hold hands and dance to his lyre’s tune
I sing of bull-horned Selene, nightly queen, decked in stars
She who weaves together days and makes time come to pass
Lover of peace and of tranquil sleep, a friend to dark-haired Nyx and Hypnos of the soothing voice
Morpheus and his train of countless dreams make her silver heart rejoice
Keeper of the late hours and their secrets, a companion to those who feel lost
For even in the darkest of moments she kindly stretches forth her luminous torch
I sing of you three, children of Hyperion and Theia, gods most high
Trough day and night, trough dusk and dawn, I pray that you shed light unto my path
Lucid ministers of Chronos, show me that which flees my sight
Reveal to me the worlds which exist around me and guide me trough the ones within my heart

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE: WISHING STAR
↳ Pairing: Choi Beomgyu x Reader
↳ word count: 2.3k words
↳ rating: G
↳ genre: fluff
In the middle of the busy airport, three figures sat side-by-side waiting for the overhead speakers to call them.
Soobin, Y/N and Kai sat patiently—trying to forget the events that led up to that point.
The girl sat in the middle, her head resting on Soobin’s shoulder as his head also rested on hers—hand wrapped tightly around her waist.
On her other side, Kai sat with his arm looping around hers—hand scrolling through his phone as his other held his iced coffee to his lips.
In front of him was a television blaring out Argenti’s local news, and she could almost feel the panic emanating from Soobin as the television suddenly flashed Beomgyu’s photo.
She cranked a weak smile as Soobin raised his head up, eyes wide as he wracked his brain for a topic.
“It’s fine, Bin.”
Soobin sighed, running his hand through his hair.
“I know I told you that you have to move on from this, Y/N,” Soobin frowned. “but I didn’t mean you have to at this very second. I know you’re hurt.”
“It’s not about me being hurt, Soobin.” Y/N replied, eyes intently gazing onto the prince’s photo on the television. “It’s about me hurting him. I can’t live with that.”
Soobin only sighed.
“It’s way more than just that, Y/N.” Kai said, locking his phone. “It’s more than just you and Beomgyu.”
“You think?” Y/N snorted sarcastically. “I screwed over Argenti, Kai. They were going to have Gyuu as the king—he’s perfect but I messed up.”
The girl’s eyes turned back to the television where a photo of Lord Jiho and Lady Eunjae was being flashed.
“Now those… things… are going to be king and queen, and I know they don’t deserve it—Gyuu does.” Y/N sighed. “I don’t know how to fix it.”
“Maybe this really isn’t your problem to fix.” Soobin said.
“I owe it to him, Binnie.”
“Well, wether you want to or not—there’s really not much we can do anymore. We’re just journalists, Y/N.” Kai said sadly. “Changing centuries-old monarchial systems? That’s a wish on a dead star for us.”
Y/N’s head shot up.
“Say that again.”
Hueningkai blinked, softly scooting away as Soobin shot him a glare.
“I’m sorry, Y/N-ie.” He mumbled softly. “I didn’t—“
“No, Kai.” Y/N said fiercely. “Say it again.”
“… there’s not much we can do?”
“The other one.” Y/N said, shaking her head.
“Um,” Soobin piped up, furrowing his eyebrows. “We’re just journalists?”
“No.”
“Changing centuries-old monarchial systems is a wish on a dead star?” Hueningkai asked, confused.
“Star.” Y/N gasped, pulling her phone out and opening her photos.
Then, she let out a shuddering breath—almost leaping onto Kai and engulfing him in a hug.
“You’re a genius, Kai!”
“I have no idea what the hell is going on.” Soobin blinked as Y/N’s phone rang.
Y/N shot up, picking up her bag.
“We have to go.”
Soobin blinked, checking his watch.
“Where?”
The castle.”
Hueningkai and Soobin exchanged a look before the prior stood up and softly rubbed the girl’s shoulder.
“Y/N, I don’t think he’d talk to you.” He said. “And our flight leaves in 3 hours.”
Y/N shook her head, pleading to both boys.
“Please, guys. It’s an emergency.”
Before both of them could say anything else, there was a voice that called out Y/N’s name. The three turned to see a blonde boy shaking the keys in his hands.
“We gotta go.” Taehyun said.
The girl turned back to Soobin and Kai, smiling hopefully. Soobin huffed, rolling his eyes.
“I hate you so much.”
“I love you, too.” Y/N grinned, pulling the two boys towards the blonde. “Come on!”
Inside Argenti’s central court, all the kingdom’s politicians gathered. At the podium stood the Prime Minister, next to an irate Lady Eunjae and Lord Jiho.
“Isn’t this enough for the coronation to start?” Eunjae hissed angrily. “Let’s get a move on.”
“Not yet,” the prime minister shook his head. “The queen has to be here.”
“We are.” Yeonjun announced as he opened the door, revealing Beomgyu, Hanuel and the queen behind him.
“Stop the coronation—Don’t crown them.” Beomgyu declared, making the two by the altar laugh.
“On what grounds?” Jiho snorted.
“I am the prince—I am the late king’s son.” Beomgyu argued. “That means I am his heir—I am the next king.”
“Illegitimate heir.” Eunjae smirked, handing the certificate of adoption to Beomgyu with an insincere smile. “Here, take a look, baby.”
“Don’t call me that.” Beomgyu hissed as his mother took the certificate gingerly.
As Beomgyu clenched his first in anger, Yeonjun bit his lip.
“Y/N,” he mumbled to himself, biting his lip. “Hurry.”
Y/N burst into the castle, sprinting over to the lounge. She was followed by Taehyun, hot on her heels. Soobin and Kai followed them, awed by the castle. As son as she reached the lounge, her eyes zeroed in on the Christmas Tree and froze.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?” Taehyun asked as the girl’s eyes wracked the decor.
“On a shooting star, the first sight I lay. The answer to everything I pray.” She recited, eyes zeroing on the glass star perched on top of the tree. “Shooting star.”
Soobin, Kai and Taehyun all exchanged looks as Y/N turned to them.
“Binnie, get the star.”
The tall boy frowned, stepping forward with furrowed eyebrows.
“Uh, sure,” he tilted his head. “But why?”
“Just do it.”
He sighed, reaching up to grab the glass ornament from the tip of the three and handing it to the girl.
“Be careful—it’s glass.” Soobin said.
“Okay,” Y/N nodded before throwing the star on the floor—shattering the ornament.
Taehyun gasped as Kai and Soobin flinched away from the glass.
“Y/N, what the hell?” Kai whined as the girl smiled over at a shocked Taehyun.
“That was… the king’s last gift to the queen.” Taehyun mumbled.
“I know,” Y/N said. “the queen never unwrapped it.”
“What do you mean?” Soobin asked, confused as the girl crouched down and sifted through the glass debris. “Y/N, what are you doing—you’ll get hurt.”
“No, I won’t.” Y/N grinned, standing back up with a tightly folded piece of paper in her hands. “What time does the interrignum end?”
“Thirty minutes.” Taehyun replied “Why?”
The girl held up the paper in her hand.
“Think we can get to the court before then?”
The paper in her hand read—Decree of the king.
Yeonjun fidgeted in his spot as he checked his phone. 0 texts. Next to him, Beomgyu shook in anger as Jiho knelt before the prime minister.
“Do you swear to do right by Argenti and her people—as her king and her subject?”
“I do,” Jiho smiles as Eunjae clapped her hands.
“Do you, as king, swear to take care of Argenti and her people first, before anything else?”
“I do.”
“Then before the new king says his oaths and wears the crown, are there any oppositions any of you wish to say?” The prime minister looked around expectantly.
Yeonjun bit his lip, anxious at the growing silence.
“Well,” the prime minister said, disappointed. “If there is none, then please repeat these—“
“I have one!” Yeonjun said loudly, raising his hand.
The prime minister sighed in relief, smiling over at him.
“What is it, my lord?”
“Hyung?” Beomgyu asked, confused as everyone turned to Yeonjun.
Yeonjun blinked, stammering as he wracked his brain for excuses as to what his disputes may be.
“Um, I—“
“I don’t think he has anything to say, minister.” Jiho scoffed, glared at the pink-haired prince.
“I do!” Yeonjun argued weakly. “I, uh, I—I—“
The door to the court burst open, a tall black-haired boy stumbling inside in panic.
“Oh god, oh god,” the boy mumbled to himself. “We’re here!”
Another tall boy with curly brown hair sprinted in, waving his arms as he stopped next to the other boy.
“We’re here! We’re here! Beomgyu is the heir! Beomgyu is the heir!” He announced, waving his hands.
Yeonjun blinked, exchanging looks with Beomgyu before he tilted his head.
“Who are you exactly?” Yeonjun asked.
Beside him, Beomgyu narrowed his eyes suspiciously before gasping.
“Wait, Soobin? Kai?”
The brunette boy smiled, giggling as he waved his hands.
“Hi!” He grinned.
Y/N and Taehyun entered the court, panting.
“They’re with me!” Y/N announced, sighing as they reached Yeonjun. “You have no fucking clue what just happened.”
With a huge sigh of relief, Yeonjun practically collapsed on the jury’s bench. Taehyun chuckled, shaking his head as he held the paper in his hands up.
“Beomgyu-hyung is the heir.” Taehyun said, handing the paper to Beomgyu. “It’s from your dad. One last decree he enacted secretly before he died.”
Beomgyu blinked, clearing his throat as he smoothened the paper out. His eyes trained over to Y/N, who leaned on Soobin as she watched the events unfolding before her. He cleared his throat before reading.
“Blood may be thicker than water—but blood is from the heart. The heart speaks for itself, and my heart tells me that my son—my heir is your prince. No one but my son, Choi Beomgyu.” Beomgyu read, hesitating slightly before continuing. “I therefore declare, as Decree 50299, that Beomgyu is my son. Adopted children of the king are listed as legitimate heirs—and therefore, legitimate to the throne. I believe that my son will uphold his values and become the best ruler that will serve the country. So goes, the will of the king.”
Beomgyu turned back over toY/N, who shot him an encouraging smile. The prince gave the decree over to the prime minister, who authenticated the decree with a smile before holding it up.
“It has the official seal of the king—Prince Beomgyu is the legitimate heir of the throne!” The prime minister declared.
There were cheers coming from the politicians at the stands. Taehyun and Yeonjun fist -bumped as Y/N smiled happily.
“This isn’t fair—This is wrong!” Jiho screamed. “We will fight on this. We will get a case filed for this, we will get a team of lawyers to handle this—“
Eunjae screeched in anger, taking off the ring on her hands and placing it in Jiho’s hands angrily.
“Make sure we get divorced first.”
Taehyun, Y/N and Yeonjun snickered at the side as the girl stormed away, being chased by her new ex-husband. The prime minister cleared his throat, calling for Beomgyu with a smile.
“My prince, if you may.” The prime minister gestured to the space in front of him.
With a nervous grin, Beomgyu kneeled—taking the king’s scepter in his arms as he began his oaths.
“Do you swear to do right by Argenti and her people—as her king and her subject?”
“I do.”
“Do you, as king, swear to take care of Argenti and her people first, before anything else?”
“I do.”
“Then before the new king says his oaths and wears the crown, are there any oppositions any of you wish to say?”
There was no response, only the anticipating smiles of the people in the court.
“Well, if there is none, then my prince—please repeat these words.” The prince said. “I,”
“I,”
“Prince Beomgyu of Argenti,”
“Prince Beomgyu and Argenti,”
“Promise to serve the country to the best of my abilities,”
“Promise to serve the country to the best of my abilities,”
“Promise to serve as a king of the people, and a king of the people.”
“Promise to serve as a king of the people, and a king of the people.”
“So is the will of the king and the country.”
“So is the will of the king and the country.”
Y/N smiled as the crown of the king finally rested on Beomgyu’s head. Slowly, the prince—king—rose to his feet.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present King Choi Beomgyu I, King of Argenti.”
There were cheers and claps coming from all around. Media were finally allowed in the court to take the first photos of the newly crowned king. Beomgyu looked over to the side to find Y/N, who stood next to Taehyun and Yeonjun, all three with gentle smiles in their faces.
The girl sighed, turning over to the two.
“Well, this is it.”
Taehyun smiled sadly, reaching out to engulf the girl in a hug.
“We’ll visit you soon.”
“You better,” Y/N laughed, returning the hug. “Thanks, Taetae. I’ll miss you a lot.”
The boy only grinned, squeezing the girl and letting her go as Yeonjun threw himself on the girl.
“Y/N-ie, don’t leave me!” He whined, making the girl giggle.
“Shut up, Jun.” Y/N chuckled, burying her face in his chest. “Thank you, so much. I don’t think I could’ve lived through all of this without you two.”
“Thanks for taking care of my baby cousin.” Yeonjun replied.
Y/N furrowed her eyebrows, pulling away.
“I screwed him over, Junie.”
“No,” Yeonjun shook his head, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. “You told him what he needed to hear, and made him experience a love he never had before—so thanks.”
Y/N smiled as she slowly stepped back, falling in line back with Soobin and Kai.
“I’ll see you both around then?”
“Soon.” Taehyun grinned, waving his hand. “We’ll just pop up in your house.”
“Don’t be creepy.” Y/N smirked, hands interlacing with Kai’s and looking over at him with a smile. “Time to go home?”
“Let’s go home.” Kai nodded.
Y/N looked over at the podium, eyes locking with the new king. The girl lowered herself into a curtsey, shooting the new king one final smile before settling back into the arms of Soobin. As they walked out, the boy proudly placed a delivate peck on the girl’s head and she smiled in satisfaction.
Her job is done.

The Crimson Kingdom. One of the few remaining empires belonging to the vampire race that still exist to this day. They reside in a vast valley with lush green hills and crystal clear springs, protected from the eyes of normal humans by the Mirage, a sort of misty magic veil that wraps itself around the outskirts of the country.
Although sharing the land with some humans, they prefer keeping to themselves. Only ever making communication with other vampires despite some of their kind already being accepted into human society alongside other supernatural creatures. Though, far away from prying mortal eyes, the capital of the Crimson Kingdom; Sillage, was being painted a shade of crimson itself. The nation had been swept by a revolution, the castle turned to a bloodbath as bodies littered the marble floors. A new age had arrived, a new set of rulers taking over after a few centuries of being under the rule of King Choi Jiho the II.
The Diamond Era.

A crash course in medieval miscellany: Part 2
The Crown, the Council, and the Court
*I'm tagging this for Tales of Arcadia because that's the whole reason this post is going up, but this information is applicable to other fandoms and creative works.
*disclaimer: we laugh at historical accuracy.
-The Crown revenue was anywhere from £300 to £500 a year, along with a monthly food render/tax. The size of the food render was wholly dependent on how many hides (30 acres in modern measurements) were in a manorial estate. The hardest numbers I found were as follows. "The late 7th century laws of Ine of Wessex list the food render expected of an estate of ten hides as: 10 vats of honey, 300 loaves, 12 ambers of [Welsh] ale, 30 ambers of clear ale, 2 full-grown cows or 10 wethers (castrated male goats), 10 geese, 20 hens, 10 cheeses, a full amber of butter, 5 salmon, 20 pounds in weight of fodder, and 100 eels."
-The Royal Advisor: Directly below the king in terms of administrative hierarchy. The advisor dealt more directly with the court on a daily basis and had the authority to act as regent in the king's absence. This position may be filled by the Queen or the Heir Apparent.
-Captain of the Knights: A senior-most possibly retired knight who supervises the training of the knight-hood and the appointment of the household troops. In small kingdoms, this individual may also serve as the captain fo the castle guard as well, but these are often separate positions.
-Senior Religious Advisor: I couldn't find any specific job description but it can be inferred that this role pertained to the parish churches and the priests and pastor, and advising the king on religious matters.
-Chief Minister: Deals directly with the "street-level" government of the main tow and, interprets of the town charter. This position is the point-of-contact for low-level officials like the sheriff and the chief constable.
-Minister of Justice: Responsible for judicial administration and appointing the common law judges. Presides over the highest court in the land.
-Chief of the Royal Mews: Oversees the care and upkeep of the stables, the carriages, and the carriage. Arranges transport for the royals and/or visiting nobility. Most likely to be concerned with the state of the roadways.
-Minister of Agriculture: I couldn't find an official title for this position, but the job description regarded the distribution of food across the kingdom.
-Lord Chamberlain: Deals with the department heads of the household staff, coordinates communication between the lords and the king, and organizes the ceremonies and festivities.
-First Chamberlain: The Lord Chamberlain's second-in-command. Coordinates with the serving staff of the royal family, administers discipline to the household staff, and oversees guest hospitality. Like the Royal Advisor, one or both of the Chamberlain positions may be held by a member of the royal family.
-Keeper of the Halls: Also known as the Captain of the Castle Guard, but responsible moreso for the guards' shift schedules. Answers directly to the Knight Captain in times of strife, but is otherwise independent.
-Medical: This includes the positions of physician, surgeon, and coroner, usually separate. They oversee the health of the royal family, the court, and the house-staff as necessary.
All of these positions pay 16 shillings a month minimum (before taxes). The crown provides meals and lodgings.
The Court
-The court is comprised of the representatives of a baron/manorial land-holding lord, who acted in the interest of their lord and ensured that they had a voice in the daily goings-on of the kingdom. Members of the court received 240 shillings a month, but it wasn't clear where this payment came from and how much of it they actually kept.
-Female courtiers were either the ladies-in-waiting to the female members of the royal family or the wives/mistresses/sisters of the lords/their representatives. It was difficult to find a job description outside of a Palace of Versailles context, but it seems that the role of a female courtier is to help curry favor for her male counterpart, rub elbows with the elite to help cement her family's social status, and arrange respectable marriages.

Salem Witch Trials Reylo AU
Ben just came back to Salem from University in England, training to join the Clergy like his uncle Luke. His father Han, a successful merchant, went to pick him up in his trading ship the Millennium Falcon. On the way home, Han died in a storm, though Han’s first mate and extremely hairy, hard to understand Scottmans Chewy is suspicious.
Ben is back in Salem and he’s working closely with Luke (who is also in the clergy). They visit the parishioners and do their best to ensure the Puritan community is taken care of, but there’s some aspects of the religion which irk Ben. This annoyance turns to concern when he meets Rey, a girl working in the Plutt household who has started to show signs of “potential bewitchment” according to the man of the house, Unkar. The sleazy man says she’s been slacking off, making rude comments, and acting strangely.
When talking with the girl, Ben realizes she’s just traumatized and dealing with the PTSD of being orphaned. He sees the truth of the situation: she doesn’t need an exorcism or to be relentlessly questioned. He has compassion for her. He brings up her situation with Luke to see what they can do for her, if they can council her somehow to deal with her tragic past and move on from it.
Luke doesn’t see it the same way. He senses that Rey has been marked, that she has a darkness about her. She’s cursed somehow, and it’s beyond just bad memories. He immediately brings her to the minister’s home where he and Ben live to keep a watch on her and find out the source of the darkness. Ben knows that his uncle’s concerns come from the Puritan suspicions and culture around orphans, and the belief that every event is the will of God. He believes Rey’s parents died because they were wicked and were struck down by God. Ben sees past that and sees Rey as a person and not an omen.
During the time Rey is at the house, she experiences intense bouts of questioning where Luke desperately tries to get an answer out of her that matches what he sees. Luke isn’t cruel, but Ben can sometimes see the fear in his eyes. Without a Puritan-friendly resolution to Rey’s affliction, he will have to admit that his religion doesn’t answer for all things. If only he would just look beyond what tradition tells him is possible. Ben does his best to calm Rey and validate her feelings, but he only does so when his uncle is out or deep in study.
Others are now being accused of being under a witch’s curse. A girl named Rose was seen leaving her home and heading to the woods several nights in a row. She claims to have no memory of doing so. A beggar named Poe has been in town for a few weeks and can be seen with an orange cat familiar, speaking with the mason’s son Finn. Finn hasn’t been at church for a few Sundays and changes the subject whenever it’s brought up.
The parishioners are getting nervous and want answers, and Luke is anxious to give them. He begins the trials. A magistrate named Armitage Hux has been called in from the capital to help the proceedings, but he is not as patient or kind as Luke can be. Hux wants to squash this before it becomes an all out massacre like the European witch trials had been, and to do that he needs to catch a witch (wether it is actually guilty or not). He twists the words of the accused until an apparent narrative is found, something easy to understand and straightforward.
Rey is on the witness stand one afternoon. She had been there for about two hours already, answering questions for the millionth time on auto pilot. Whenever the questions got too personal or intense, she would look to Ben, who would give a subtle, encouraging nod to her. At one point she repeats some council he gave her, that the God of love would never intentionally harm one of his beloved, grieving daughters. This does not go well, and brings on an onslaught of scrutiny and outrage in which her faithfulness is brought into question. She tears up as Hux asks her difficult questions on doctrine and people she’d known for years shout out reasons she might be a secret witch herself.
Filled with anger and a terrible sadness, she stands abruptly and waves her hands for all to silence themselves. Luke says it’s unorthodox but Hux, knowing what a confessor looks like, silences him too.
Rey looks out on the people, to her fellow accused, and says, “I see know that you are blinded to what does not fit nicely in your small minds. You cannot see the harm your traditions do on your children. If you are to say I am a witch, then that is what I am. But if I am a witch, then it is you who have made me this way. I have been ground up under the pestle of your gaze and upon the mortar of your beliefs and am now so small you can blow me away, this way or that. If I am hang to as a witch, it will be by the rope which all of you have spun.” This is taken as a confession.
Ben is horrified. He turns to his uncle in confidence but to no avail, there is nothing to be done with a confession like that. He saw the torture of Rey’s soul, that she was a victim in all that was done to her but he is helpless to change the perception of a mob. This isn’t enough for Ben. He goes to her in the dingy jail cell and sees that she is already trying to escape, the guard unconscious against the bars of the cell and her thin hands reaching around to grab the key. Ben is speechless.
Rey pauses when she sees him, not sure if he will reprimand her, call a guard, or help her escape. When he makes no move to do any of that, she straightens up and looks at him through the bars of the cell. She stands firm, and tells him that he has changed her for good. She isn’t satisfied with being defined by the expectations of others, by their unkindly god. She has to leave this place if she hopes to survive and she has to travel far away if she hopes to live. She asks him to come with her. She begins to explain why he should when he interrupts her to accept the proposal.
They break out, and then decide that the others need to come too. Ben will prepare the Millennium Falcon to sail south and Rey will convince the others accused to leave with them. And they do that. All of it. They sail south, and plan to live with no gods. No masters. Nothing defining them but the forces of nature and themselves.

Okay, so I’ve re watch the Nolanverse Batman trilogy and at the end I’ve always liked how they insinuated how John Blake was to take up the mantle of Gotham’s next capes crusader (as Robin, Nightwing, or Batman), and lemme tell you how I would have LOVED a fourth movie of Detective Robin John Blake, being the next vigilante, falling down and getting beat up in fights, hiding his new side job from Commissioner Gordon. Like that would be awesome in its own right, but may I add; teenager Carrie Kelley finding out the new Crusader’s identity and straight up shows up in the Batcave with her own costume and gumption. It’s not like Blake can make a determination teenager not help him. Even after he changes the lock on his apartment door and the batcave, Carrie sneaks her way in and always shows up on his patrol and sometimes kicks more ass than he does.
And since I am also Bane x Blake trash (we have gotta come up with a better ship name) I just like toying with the idea of Bane (who tries to train the two most stubborn humans he’s ever met) and Blake (one of said afformentiomed humans) being Carrie’s weird not dads with Alfred there providing support and filming each disaster with a smile.
Carrie is my obvious choice because after the occupation in Gotham, Carrie’s gearing to protect her city no matter what, and who cares if all she has is a Blue Belt in karate, her first aid patch from Girl scouts, and a ferocity that’s second to none. She inavative and clever and knows the streets of Gotham better than anyone. To me she seems like the natural choice.
Shenanigans would include
Carrie and Blake finding a washed up Bane in the sewers and having a fight on wether to save him or leave him to die. The no killing rule beats out so they take him to the cave.
Blake is reminded how much brute strength Carrie has when she dead lifts Bane by herself and starts her trek to the Cave before Blake can snap out of it and come to help her
It takes a while for a) forgiveness and b) Bane’s reform, but it eventually happens. After a lot of screaming and threatening
Carrie being apart of Girl Scouts and a small martial arts dojo and frequently asks Blake to drive her to her practices and meetings. Blake doesn’t know when he became a chauffeur but Carrie always gives him anone arm hug before he leave so he guesses its not so bad
Both Carrie and Blake perch in random ledges and it annoys the shit out of Bane because normal people shouldn’t be doing their homework on the top of the batcomputer minister, Carrie!
Carrie trying to explain what a thin mint is to Bane and why she needs to sell more than Lucy Devero
Carrie roller blading around the Batcave because it’s huge and walking around it is a hassle
Bane decides the best way to repay the people who saved him and gave him a second chance was to train them so they get their asses kicked less while on patrol
Carrie felling the three grown men in the cave her high school drama
When Blake hears about Carrie’s home life, he’s torn between reporting them and having them take her away, because he knows what it’s like to be in the system and he wouldn’t wish that on anyone.
In case you don’t know, Carrie’s parents are major druggies that honest to god forget they have a daughter
Eventually after he gets approved by the necessary people, Blake reports Carrie’s parents and takes her as his foster daughter. Because why not
Bane can’t really be hard on Carrie because she reminds him so much of Talia.
That doesn’t stop him from giving her a list of exersizes to do every day that she only does because Blake backs Bane up
Bane is still Bane, but when he gets too dark and suggests things that go against the belief and justice system Carrie and Blake have developed, it’s always Carrie correcting him
As in, screaming at him why he’s wrong, angry crying, saying if he wants to go back to the way he was she’s be happy to leave Bane in the sewer the next time he finds himself there
That usually stops him in his tracks
Alfred always offering rooms at the mansion for everyone, and even though Blake and Bane don’t take up the offer, Carrie commandeered a whole wing for herself and properly decked it out in posters and video game councils.
The Batcave is their place of operation but Blake’s apartment is where the life of the team is at
If/When Blake and Bane start their weird relationship, they both try to hide it from Carrie
But Carrie’s not an idiot because the apartment only has two bedrooms and Bane ain’t sleeping on the couch. She’s checked.
I dunno, just Blake with his sidekick Carrie is unbelievably entertaining to me

Indian Army to Recruit Women as Military Police: A Cause for Celebration?
The little step ahead highlights just how significantly girls have to go to realize gender parity in the Indian armed forces.
By Akanksha Khullar for The Diplomat
May possibly 29, 2019
As a step to open up up new avenues for women, the Indian Army issued a official notification on April 25, 2019 inviting female candidates for the position of Soldier General Duty. These appointments are to acquire place below the Staff Below Officer Rank (PBOR) category inside of the armed forces law enforcement.
All those chosen will be accountable for investigating offenses these types of as molestation, theft, and rape protecting against the breach of guidelines and restrictions by military staff supplying help to civil law enforcement and carrying out ceremonial responsibilities.
Even though the selection brings with it an option for girls to be recruited in battle-support operations, women of all ages showing up in frontline overcome roles these as infantry, artillery, and armored models remains a distant fact. This limited involvement begs the question as to wether women’s participation in the PBOR can definitely be seen as an exemplary initiative specific toward achieving gender parity within just the Indian armed forces.
Experiencing this report? Click on here to subscribe for comprehensive accessibility. Just $5 a thirty day period.
Women’s Visibility in the Military
The Indian Army’s practical experience of extensive-expression work and administration of women officers has been constrained. As of January 2019, the Indian Army — which is the next greatest in the earth — experienced ladies generating up just 3.80 per cent of its workforce. There ended up 1,561 girls officers as when compared to 41,074 male counterparts.
The army initially began inducting ladies as officers in 1992 by Quick Assistance Commissions (SSC) with a preliminary term of engagement for 5 a long time, which was later extended to 10 decades with an selection of even more extension by four a long time. On the other hand, no more possibilities were being produced thereafter to facilitate women’s employment throughout other divisions of the army. In point, these females have essentially been confined to auxiliary roles in the instruction, medical, engineering, signals, authorized, and military intelligence wings.
It was only in 2008 that the army granted Everlasting Commissions (Personal computer) to some women officers within just the Military Instruction Corps and Choose Advocate General departments — allowing them to provide right up until the age of retirement. But owing to the predominance of patriarchal ideologies, the army has been marred by controversies pertaining to the grant and extending permission to women of all ages to control particular units.
All through his 72nd Independence Day tackle, Indian Key Minister, Narendra Modi introduced that gals officers with SSCs in the Indian Armed Forces would be eligible for PCs through a transparent range procedure. As a result, gals now also have the alternative of having up PCs in all the 10 branches of the Indian Military in which they are now being inducted as officers underneath SSC.
The PBOR recruitment is thus the first time in additional than two a long time that women are remaining recruited by the army in other ranks and not only as officers but as soldiers, offering them additional active army responsibilities and an chance to be posted in large-hazard areas.
An Instance of Women Empowerment?
Even though a leap ahead, the choice to use girls as corps of the armed forces law enforcement cannot truly be thought of as a milestone for girls empowerment, as the doorways have opened up with an very restricted capability.
The basic caveat in this article is that women’s place in the military may make improvements to with their entry into the PBOR category but even as soldiers they will carry on to be placed in fewer-challenging peripheral roles — as soon as all over again barring them from multifarious battle duties and restraining their prospective buyers for diversification past a civilizing power. This is in stark contrast to their male counterparts, who are bestowed with unrestricted possibilities for capability improvement in all ranks of the military sufficient deployment solutions to hazardous and tricky battle zones and privileges of greater institutional powers.
Therefore, the transfer to recruit gals into the combatant assistance arm of the army by itself is discriminatory and a compromise of women’s dignity and flexibility of choice to be positioned in the direct line of action. These regressive gender disparities are properly mirrored in the institutional attitudes proper at the major — recently designed evident by Army Chief Bipin Rawat. In an job interview, he presented sociological and logistical explanations for the army’s lack of ability to recruit females in fight operations.
Next, as a part of this initiative, the military ideas to induct 800 females in all — with a annually ingestion of 52 personnel — to eventually sort 20 per cent of the total corps of military police. This also indicates that the remaining 80 % of positions has by default been reserved for guys. The proportion is consequently exceptionally dismal. According to the 2019 Globe Populace Critique, about 48.50 % of Indians are gals, practically 50 % of the full population. This raises an critical dilemma: why is women’s participation in the military currently being constrained to a proportion far underneath India’s precise population divide?
Third, women’s recruitment within just the PBOR group is conditioned on the actuality that the prospect will have to be an unmarried female and they “must undertake not to marry right up until they comprehensive their whole training” — generating this a basic case exactly where entrenched social establishments like marriage act as an obstruction to women’s experienced empowerment. Such parameters are more demonstrative of a failure to recognize girls as unbiased brokers in their have legal rights and in handle of their destiny.
Summary
The entire discourse on India’s national safety is shaped, restricted, and permeated by concepts about gender — with an overt masculine predominance and the structural exclusion of females. Resultantly, the military, significantly the fight forces, are viewed as the unique domain of males. It is as a result not at all astonishing that gals are continuously saved exterior the direct line of action.
Viewed in gentle of this narrative, the choice to consist of females as soldiers in the Indian Military is a historic 1 and provides some result in of celebration. But to reach the authentic marketing of women’s correct and gender equality, it is important to present feminine officers with the alternative to serve in harmful and complicated roles, and the chance to acquire consideration for similar alternatives as their male counterparts. It is time to deconstruct harmful gendered and patriarchal biases and realize the competence of women of all ages to secure countrywide stability.
