Blindness to Russian colonialism distorts Westerners’ view of the Ukraine war
Yet, Westerners safe from bombardment like long-shot third-party presidential candidate Cornel West continue to accommodate Russia. In a July 13 interview with CNN's Kaitlan Collins, West called Russia's invasion "criminal" but insisted it was "provoked by the expansion of NATO" and is a "proxy war between the American Empire and the Russian Federation," adding Neville Chamberlain-esque icing on the appeasement cake by proposing Ukrainian territorial concessions to Russia.
The tell in West's remarks was calling the U.S. an empire but referring to Russia by its de jure name, implicitly erasing its imperial, colonial character. It's a common tendency among the segment of the left to which West belongs, one that Kazakhstan-born Pitzer College sociology professor Azamat Junisbai attributes to ignorance and a myopic, know-nothing focus on American imperialism to the exclusion of imperialism by other nations.
"They're kind of imperial about their anti-imperialism," Junisbai said. "There's something very provincial and strange about it where you literally do not know anything about what's happening beyond this one issue you care about."

If there is one thing that you can be sure the Westerners are completely ignorant of, then it's the history of the Ottoman Empire 🇹🇷

Wife Beating in Islam!
In the West, it is a common practice of the Governments, theologians, and media to pick some traditions, injunctions, or practices of Islam and start pounding upon them to malign Islam, the Quran, or the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It reaches its epitome when it becomes imprinted on the minds of ordinary people, who are either Islamophobes, anti-religionists, atheists, or simply ignorant, hence…

The sheer ignorance of some Westerners is baffling. We're in the year 2024 and they still think that "do women have rights in Islam/Muslim countries?" is a spicy little gotcha question. How illiterate can you be? We've reached the peak of technology and internet connectivity. Muslims are all over social media. How blind and deaf can you be? Did you never develop the courage to step out of your cave?
(If you're still wondering: yes, Muslim women have historically had more rights than Western women.)

She turned off reblogs so imma address it here.
NOT EVERYONE IS WHITE/WESTERN
YOU DUMBASS
When you mean 'socially acceptable', what you actually mean is
'normalised in western culture',
And that, was because of the 19th century dress reform movement. Also, overwhelmingly because it was a tool of feminist rebellion. Women were arrested en-masse, for wearing trousers in WW1, and yet they continued to do so, the clothing becoming an increasing point of protest, because before then, 'feminine' clothing, was extremely long skirt which were an actual danger to the female factory workers who were legally obligated to wear them.
The reason a similar movement did not be made for men, is because the male standard clothes were practical and not a legitimate physical danger. So the average man did not feel the need to protest these restrictions.
In fact men did not start using skirts/'feminine clothing' as a tool of rebellion en masse till the LGBT Rights movement.
On the other hand, feminine clothing has been GLOBALLY used as a TOOL OF OPPRESSION.
The modern day western world is one of the only places in World History, for perhaps all of human history, where men's clothing is more greatly monitored then women's. `
I will not mention the country where I am originally from because I feel like I've already said waaaaaay too much about myself online, and i'm paranoid.
But women and those AFAB are currently being shot dead in the streets of my country by morality police for- Not even wearing men's clothing- but just simply wearing SLIGHTLY TOO 'MASCULINE' (practical) CLOTHES.
So don't sit there in your fucking privilege and talk about how femininity in those AMAB is a more transgressive concept than masculinity in AFAB people.
Some of yall really need to learn about people outside your limited ass sphere

The Legend Of Korra: *spent years fighting an uphill battle of misogynoir and queeephobia*
Korra and Asami: *kiss and announce they’re a couple before gay marriage was even legalized in the United States*
Fans: Korrasami is a bad and underdeveloped relationship. Why do people even like it?

Please, don’t forget about the women in Afghanistan.
This image is not at all a commentary on Islam and/or of the different head-coverings that a woman may choose to wear while respecting her faith. Wearing a burqa/burka does not equate to an inherent lack of rights/freedom. This is also not a criticism of the Barbie movie. This is a statement about the brutal treatment of the women and girls in Afghanistan (as well as in Iran).
I loved the Barbie movie and think it’s a very important and empowering film. However, it is a bit jarring when I’m scrolling through my phone, listening to the Barbie soundtrack, and I come across an article detailing the mounting horrors these women face in these countries. There is so much happening in the world, and it all needs news time, but the virtual media silence on this topic is frightening.
Even though my country isn’t perfect (especially so after June of last year), it’s easy to lose perspective on how privileged I am.
The many different flavors of western feminism aren’t for everyone and every culture; to think so would be privileged and tone deaf. There is no "one-size-fits-all" kind of empowerment. But, objectively, what is happening to women and girls in Afghanistan and Iran is abhorrent and cannot be forgotten.
If Barbie can be anything, then Barbie can be an advocate and an activist. Do what you can, Barbies.
“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” ― Audre Lorde

it is incredibly frustrating to see the non-response from westerners to what is arguably the worst natural disaster in recent memory. when the ukraine-russia war broke out, it was on everyone's blogs. everyone--at least on my dash--was trying to spread awareness of the humanitarian crisis. but now?
fucking crickets.
absolutely nothing.
this earthquake has already claimed 20k confirmed lives. it has only been 5 days. most wrecks have not been excavated yet.
we need all the help we can get, but not a single fucking person is doing anything to help spread the message. people who proudly put the ukrainian flag in their display names or in their bios are nowhere to be seen now. the influencers youtubers and tiktok micro-celebrities who shared donation posts and ukrainian refugee testimonials daily are dead silent now. why? why do you only care when the people dying are somewhat like you? do we need to be whiter to deserve your attention? or more christian? do we not deserve your energy as is? are we, turks and syrians, not humans?
im so fucking sorry if donation posts don't fit your blog's aesthetic or if the news are just so fucking draining for you. every single one of you motherfuckers living in the west should be ashamed of yourselves for how differently you are treating us versus how you treated ukrainians when the war broke out.
if this happened in any western country you'd all be making infographics on how to donate or help.
right now the only reason why people on my dash are devastated is because the rhythm guitarist from my chemical romance had a haircut.
all of you need to be doing better.
do better.

The news of the Polish uprising completely shocked me. We can only feel sorry for the Poles. We are too strong to hate them. The war that is beginning will be a war of extermination. Or at least it should be. After all, the Poles must be strangled. And our slowness in doing so is intolerable.

its so weird seeing posts that mock uncle jim for worrying about li ming's queerness as though his dead boyfriend's parents (legally) stealing his entire life savings and leaving him to manage a restaurant business specifically because gay couples aren't legally recognized as couples wasn't what put him in a cycle of crushing debt and endless poverty in the first place

I saw people hating Caleb in twt for being the next LI to be released… does this mean Lads are promoting incest or something?
actually i’m pretty sure this discourse stems from a great misunderstanding just because mc calls caleb “big brother”, and no, infold is not trying to promote incest or anything bc in actuality, caleb and mc are not related by blood
in chinese culture, it’s considered very rude to address someone older than you only by name without honorifics, and it’s actually pretty common to address a man older than you as “big brother” (哥哥 gege). heck, i address my team leader at work, a 31 year old man, as 哥 bc we’re pretty close. and interns here call me “big sister” (姐姐 jiejie) too 🥹
i don’t see caleb as a love interest either, but what i’ll do is not pull his cards and level him up just to get resources. there’s really no need of hate discourses over fictional characters just bc of misunderstanding over different cultures 🤷🏻‍♀️

Seeing Western Activists praise the recent ICJ West Bank opinion is just watching another exercise in hypocrisy and willful ignorance.
This is the same court that said they found no evidence of genocide and that Israel should do everything in its power to prevent the war from becoming one.
The response from Western Activists was to keep calling it a genocide as they had been doing since October 8th before Israel even started its military response.
This is the same court that instructed Hamas to return the hostages, which they never did.
The response from Western Activists was to ignore this ruling and Hamas's lack of action completely.
This recent opinion states that Israel must exit the West Bank and give the land back to the 1967 borders.
But then it goes back to Jordan right?
Because all of the territory seized in 1967 belonged to other Arab countries and if its going back to pre-67 borders it defaults back to them, right?
Or are we finally establishing Palestine with its own government to be recognized by the international community, and therefore be welcome and beholden to all the rules, laws, and norms?
Is that new government in charge of Gaza as well, and thus has a responsibility for 10/7 and the hostages?
Does that new government have a responsibility to handle Hamas and all the other terrorist groups?
Will this become another Lebanon where the UN says it will disarm terrorist groups within the country and enforce the disarmament, but does absolutely nothing and leaves it to Israel to be in a continued armed conflict with said groups continuously while the international community wring their hands and cry over the Jews fighting back?
(Because, let's be honest, it doesn't matter that there are non-Jewish Israelis. It only matters that the Jews are "uppity" in the global scheme of things.)
Every time an ICJ opinion comes out regarding Israel and Palestine I have to ask "Okay, what next?". Because I've never seen the next steps actually come to fruition or a detailed description of what that actually means. Maybe someone will actually put a plan of action forward and what it entails, but until then I'm just going to sit back and watch the moral grandstanding continue.
(I'm not even going to touch upon Nawaf Salam, the current president of the ICJ, and his history of rampant antisemitism that informs his decisions, but its something to keep in mind.)
