Do you need to identify a font?
Working on something for business or pleasure and need to figure out what font someone else used?
As someone who loves fonts and has collected multiple thousands of them (don't ask) as well as spent time identifying them, here are the tools I know of to make your job easier. (This is not an exhaustive list, and rarely do any one of these work every time.)
Try a google search. You might not be the first person looking to identify a given font, and a google search might give you the answer right away. (Getting a copy of said font is a totally different post, tho, but if anyone's interested I can give you my resources for that as well.) Reddit, dafont.com forums, even more niche sites like fontsinuse.com can all be excellent sources of answers for what a given font is.
Font identification sites. My two go-to are normally fontsquirrel.com and whatfontis.com. Both of them utilize uploading a picture of the font in question, and allow you to tell the search what letter each glyph is, which means you're more likely to get accurate results. You will still have to have a keen eye to check which result is exactly what you're looking for, but 9/10 if I can't identify a font by sight or by google search, this gets the job done. Another site that's worth checking out is identifont.com, which allows you to answer a series of questions about the different characteristics of the font you're identifying. The scope of identifont isn't as wide as the others, but sometimes you can get lucky.
Crowd source. Myfonts.com, which is Monotype's online platform, has a section called 'WhatTheFont', which has its own font identifier, but more importantly has a forum specifically dedicated to identifying fonts via images. Not only can you upload your own picture to see if someone else can identify your font (I only recommend this if you have time, if you're in a rush look elsewhere) but the forum has a search function, so you can search to see if someone else was also looking for the same font.
Extra notes: Websites will have their displayed fonts in the coding of the website, take advantage of your browser's developer tools to scroll through and see what they're using. Brands and/or companies will sometimes have branding/logo specifications listed for press/design purposes, dig around and you might find exactly what they use to create their branding. If all else fails, and you are coming up incredibly short, consider finding a font that's similar to what you're trying to copy and adjusting it with an editing program to look like what you need.

Well, after careful consideration (and poor impulse control) I have decided that second hand sources just aren't enough for me when it comes to writing fanfic.
Which means that I am now the proud owner of the Ezio Collection on Switch!
I'm hoping this will help me nail down Ezio's and Desmond's personality more.
Fandom God help me if I ever wanna write something with Altair, I don't think his game(s??) is even available on the Switch. Which, with how little impulse control I have, means that I would ultimately end up buying a whole friggen GAME SYSTEM along with the first AC.
In any case, chapter 5 of FGW is coming along. I'm hoping to have it out by Wednesday, as long as I don't get too distracted by the game itself.

romans. friends. countrymen. babes and beloveds. I'm begging you, ESPECIALLY if your poster is digital-only,
include the damn link for your QR code
I want to know where I'm going
my phone, among many, can surf the internet but doesn't do QR codes. yes i know it "should". but the facts remain it does not and I do not have the space to keep around a QR reading app 24/7 that I use once every 3-6 months
not everyone has a smartphone ANYWAY

link shortening
okay. let me tell you one of my pet peeves. it's when you send a link to something and the link takes up a full paragraph. amazon is especially egregious with this; as an example, i'm going to use the sweet essentials goat milk & honey perfume. here's the link i get if i just copy/paste it:
https://www.amazon.com/Goat-Honey-Fragrance-Perfume-Organic/dp/B07D5N4XRP/ref=sr_1_1?crid=368RN4BTXC5R9&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.0tHv-eu2F7iPFRQB2q9yXdLcYOv4rURViCCRfaecKCxZGmUW01KbdXZU3Q1GrGr9CUE97ZgO2tqSFilCtwDhBDwZrkPHvIwyX3KwtbHn1H2BjGo6Kv2RNKzHD4vUn6cdGQvpxat_DCpR1LJaDNrxuYElr7x_GZHixDS4r3SWdrQ67ov2O0MBOQ3F7vH9sclQyOCOsPB-xuzdAbugWTjAw7PODjXTSswWuLJG56uZkMUaJ5ob8xIEy6tpHvu21E8uYKJtnWdyGBoK5Wd5mo7S3urQt-rJX9twnr3RwS0Kk_s.kW9z0gieuOP4prMF2tSrHmrMuB8XObk-xguJ8Cub1YI&dib_tag=se&keywords=sweet+essentials+goat+milk+and+honey+perfume&qid=1726618258&sprefix=sweet+essentials+goat+milk+and+honey+perfume%2Caps%2C58&sr=8-1
do you see this shit? that link is longer than my introduction paragraph. and most of it is totally unnecessary and just gives amazon tracking data. so i'm going to quick breakdown the link:
https://www.amazon.com/ is the domain. this tells your browser to go to the internet, to amazon's address. can't do without.
Goat-Honey-Fragrance-Perfume-Organic/dp/B07D5N4XRP/ is the sort of directory. this is where the meat of the link is; it gives the browser the information of where in the amazon domain it should look for what you're looking for. sort of like when you ask a librarian where a book is and they say "it's in this area of the library, i can show you if you like"
every single thing after that is optional. most, if not all, of it is just tracking data that tells amazon who looked it up, how, where they found it, etc. etc. and you can totally safely remove it.
so, our final, shortened link is:
https://www.amazon.com/Goat-Honey-Fragrance-Perfume-Organic/dp/B07D5N4XRP/
and you can test it for yourself, both the really long link and this nice clipped link lead to the same page. this is generally applicable to most websites; if a link feels a little too long, experiment and start removing bits off the end. generally anything that shows up after "?[text]=" is probably safe to remove, as with "&[text]=". sometimes those have particular jobs, though; for example, youtube links with a particular timestamp will include "&t=[number]s" and while removing this will keep the link to the video, it will remove the timestamp. similarly, youtube sometimes uses "&v=[text]" to encode the id of a video, so without that you're left with just the youtube homepage. if a link has "?si=[text]", that's all safe to remove, because that's pure tracking data.
in short: clip your links. don't give them any more than you need to. experiment a little. have fun and be yourself. i love you

i think the biggest misunderstanding about art is the idea that there are Truly Objective Measures of Quality
like a there are a handful of compositional tricks and color theory and stuff that helps speed up the brain interpreting the image, but imo a lot of that is about just reaching more people and having more 'rolls of the dice' so to speak to click with someone, since if it's not as easily interpreted someone has to make a deliberate decision to engage with it and evaluate it. which isn't really relevant to quality, since a lot of the art people point to as being 'high quality' are very ambiguous anyway
meaning is highly affected by (or perhaps almost entirely derived by) context, and most of the time more than 50% of the context is entirely out of your control (especially on social media, since it's basically designed to strip context as quickly as possible since that gets posts to viewers faster just because establishing context takes time, and more views means more ad revenue) but otherwise the biggest part of context that is going to affect someone's interpretation is the context of their own life experiences. Since that's how they've gotten all the information they can refer to while interpreting the art, it is not something anyone can truly leave behind when engaging with art. (Although you can make a conscious effort to broaden the amount of information you are aware of, and i do think more people should, that is not entirely relevant to the point here)
where i think this is very visible is in the cliche of artists getting more social media engagement on joke posts than on 'real' art. everything you need to understand the joke is already inside the post, (or already in the surrounding context around the post, considering a lot of the jokes that get large traction on social media are jokes about the experience OF social media.) in a format where people are already going into it with a plan to continue scrolling as soon as they're done with the post, they're not going to spend time on something to figure out what's interesting about it.
I must emphasize that decision not to engage is not a quality judgement either. as much as people act like it is or even say it is. you simply can't absorb enough information in a glance to make a remotely objective decision about something like that. it's a short snap decision that everyone has to make all the time, since there is vastly so much more world than any one person could perceive in a lifetime. even outside of art, even without the immense and immediate potential access to information that we have with the current internet infrastructure, the amount of information even in one square foot of green on a boulevard is enough to fill a thousand lifetimes of study, if you decided to look close enough.
but a brain only has time to perceive so much, and it has Priorities, like continuing to exist, and if it weren't able to make some kind of snap judgement about what information in it's environment to prioritize, it wouldn't be able to do that, so it makes a priority judgement whether you think about it or not. Everyone's brain is a result of the way that priority interacts with the environment it ends up in, and the human brain is so flexible, and either via being able to change to fit the context or via simply being more of a blank canvas to begin with than most people are willing to admit (which is closer to what i believe, since I've seen so many things claimed to be 'deeply set instincts' at various parts of history only to be very obviously proven just results of the culture at the time) the context that even two people from a pretty similar environment come to a piece of art with can be very different in ways that are essentially impossible to trace the origin of.
so essentially art being considered 'good art' because a lot of people enjoy it is a lot more about luck than anyone is really willing to admit, so if you don't want to use that as a measure of objective quality you basically get around to the closest 'objective' measure being whether or not it succeeds at whatever the goal of the artist was. so then you need to consciously think about your goal to make any kind of 'quality evaluation'.
if you have a specific goal, you can optimize towards it. like if your goal is social media engagement, well, there's plenty of techniques for that, like making the context pretty self-contained, or using metadata/algorithm/whatever is relevant to the site itself to get it to people you think will have the most context in common, or just to get it in front of as many eyes as possible just to have more chances at finding the right people.
However, other goals are gonna be incompatible with that goal, which seems to be the biggest sticking point for a lot of people, since they want the numbers to go up without it being a gamble, but also want it to match some other goal, like being 'authentic' which as far as i can tell, often really means they just want the art to be changed as little as possibly from the original vision, which is kinda by necessity incompatible with optimizing it for a specific other goal. unfortunately, for a variety of cultural (authenticity is very popular) or logistical reasons (...less work if you don't have to change the original vision, tbh. that's the one I value most about 'authenticity' these days...) this kind of 'authenticity' is one of the most popular artist goals
(By the way, the quotes around 'authenticity' are less about derision and more about the fact i want to emphasize that i am using the specific definition for 'authenticity' that i just laid out in that last paragraph. this definition of 'authenticity' is actually a pretty major goal of my own art, jokes about amount of work aside, because my other largest goal at the moment is that i prioritize the art i do based on my own personal enjoyment of both process and outcome, and 'changed as little as possible from the original vision' as a goal often combines very well with what i find fun right now)
frustratingly, instead of confronting the consequences of conflicting goals, people resort to having wankfests about the broader public not recognizing True Genius, or making emotionally manipulative, guilting posts about how no-one appreciates their hard work so people better start engaging with their art in the specific way they feel is most validating or they're going to stop posting it.
this is, i think, because it's a very easy way to put the fault of this sucky situation on something out of their control. which is very funny, because there is a very present and obvious reason that is out of their control that they ended up in this sucky situation. which is that their only opportunity to get their art in front of people who it could connect with is by putting it out on platforms where the first priority is generating ad revenue and scraping user data, and the methodology the platforms use to achieve that is by pretending the platform's first priority is human interaction.
but since building a social infrastructure that isn't attached to an advertising and data meatgrinder is a uh..... well we can say it's a pretty 'long term goal' (read as: i do not know how the fuck to do that) it is usually just much easier to move your goalposts somewhere you can get to them. which can itself suck and feel like you're giving up. But a binary of failure/success is only really applicable to a specific goal with a specific endpoint, and 'being an artist' or even 'being a Good Artist' is not a goal with an easily definable endpoint, considering it's just really fucking ambiguous, and if you polled 10 people off the street on what a 'Good Artist' is, you'll probably get 20 different answers
so set a goal. as many goals as you want, because life is longer than you think it is, and you can change them again whenever you want. You can set goals that you don't know how to reach, but you can also set a bunch of ones you can reach, like deciding you want to get the most anatomically accurate art that you can, or deciding you want to have the most fun with your art, or picking a specific niche audience you want to see and enjoy your art, and you can use that as a metric to define quality in your own art's context as opposed to ambiguously chasing 'quality' without defining what that means to you (and without being tempted to measure that 'quality' entirely by whether it makes people more likely to click the heart button next to it)
Then you can kinda consider those measures of quality objective, because they are pretty well defined, but they're still not objective goals in the sense that every single person in the world will look at the art and go 'this is good art'. but they are actionable objectives. which is more important in my opinion, because art can only be 'good art' to anyone if the art has actually been done.

How to Optimize Meta Tags in Your WordPress Site for Better SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an essential part of any successful website. It's the process of optimizing your website to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs) to increase traffic, leads, and sales. One critical aspect of SEO is meta-analysis, which involves analyzing your website's meta tags to ensure they are optimized correctly.
Tumblr media
How do I integrate SEO with my WordPress site?
Before Conducting the SEO Meta-analysis process, you should know how to integrate SEO with your WordPress site. Integrating SEO with your WordPress site is an essential step toward improving your website's visibility and attracting more traffic.
Here are some steps you can take to integrate SEO with your WordPress site:
Install an SEO plugin: WordPress has several SEO plugins that you can use to optimize your site, including Yoast SEO, All in One SEO Pack, and RankMath. These plugins help you to optimize your site's meta descriptions, title tags, and other critical elements that search engines use to rank your site.
Optimize your content: Ensure that your content is optimized for the search engines by including relevant keywords, meta descriptions, and tags. You can use tools like Google Keyword Planner to research the best keywords to use in your content.
Use SEO-friendly URLs: Your site's URLs should be simple, descriptive, and easy to read. WordPress automatically generates URLs for your posts and pages, but you can customize them to make them more SEO-friendly.
Use responsive design: A responsive design ensures that your site is accessible on all devices, including mobile devices. Search engines prefer responsive sites and are likely to rank them higher.
Speed up your site: A fast-loading site is essential for SEO. You can speed up your site by optimizing your images, using caching plugins, and choosing a reliable hosting provider.
Use social media: Social media can help you to promote your site and attract more traffic. Integrating social media sharing buttons on your site makes it easy for users to share your content on social media. To share your posts or web pages URL on social media channels in a concise manner, you can use the custom URL Shortener tools that are easily available online. Using shortened links, you can increase your click-through rate because they become more appealing to the reader and impact their decision to engage.
Build backlinks: Backlinks are linking from other sites to your site. You can build backlinks by guest posting on other sites, participating in forums, and creating high-quality content that others will link to.
HOW TO CONDUCT THE SEO META-ANALYSIS ON YOUR WORDPRESS SITE?
In this guide, we'll show you how to conduct SEO meta-analysis on your WordPress site to improve its search engine visibility.
Step 1: Review Your Meta Tags
The first step in conducting SEO meta-analysis on your WordPress site is to review your meta tags. Your website's meta tags include the meta title, meta description, and meta keywords. To check your website's meta tags, navigate to your site's home page, right-click, and select "View page source." Look for the <head> section and search for the meta tags.
Step 2: Optimize Your Meta Tags
Once you've reviewed your website's meta tags, it's time to optimize them. To optimize your meta tags, follow these best practices:
Meta Title: The meta title is the title that appears at the top of your browser window and the SERP listing. Use your target keyword at the beginning of the title and keep it under 60 characters. Make it compelling to encourage users to click on your SERP listing.
Meta Description: The meta description is the short description that appears beneath the meta title in the SERP listing. Keep it under 160 characters and use your target keyword. Make it clear, concise, and compelling to encourage users to click on your SERP listing.
Meta Keywords: The meta keywords are a list of keywords that describe your website's content. While search engines don't use meta keywords for ranking purposes, including them can help them better understand your website's content. Use relevant keywords that describe your website's content.
Step 3: Check Your Website's Content
In addition to optimizing your website's meta tags, you should also ensure that your website's content is optimized for search engines. Your website's content should include your target keyword, and it should be high-quality, engaging, and relevant to your audience.
HOW TO ADD THE SEO META TAGS FOR A BLOG POST ON THE WORDPRESS SITE?
To add SEO meta to a specific blog post, follow these steps:
Navigate to the "All Posts" section in the blog C-panel.
Select the desired blog post where you want to add the SEO meta.
Click the "Edit" option under the selected blog post.
Scroll down to find the "Post SEO Setting" section.
Input the optimized SEO title and description in the designated fields.
To check your website's content, review your website's pages and blog posts. Ensure that they include your target keyword and that they provide valuable information to your audience.
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion, SEO is a crucial aspect of optimizing a website for search engine visibility. By following the above steps and using online marketing techniques such as advertisements on the most explored websites to form a strategic alliance with other e-platform, blogs, and emails that can improve the website's search engine visibility and attract more traffic, leads, and sales.

Chat Control in a nutshell (please reblog this, US people)

Tumblr media
(Latest update on Chat Control was the 12 september 2024) This is a little long, so feel free to shorten it as you wish : Subject line: "2022/0155(COD) Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to express my grave concerns regarding the proposed introduction of "Chat Control" This measure poses a serious threat to the privacy and fundamental rights of all EU citizens and stands in stark contradiction to the core principles that the European Union seeks to uphold. The proposed Chat Control contravenes Articles 7 and 8 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which guarantee the right to respect for private and family life and the protection of personal data. The indiscriminate surveillance of private messages without specific suspicion or cause directly violates these fundamental rights. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) sets out stringent rules for the processing of personal data. The proposed indiscriminate surveillance and scanning of private messages before end-to-end encryption is fundamentally incompatible with the principles of data minimization and purpose limitation enshrined in the GDPR. Specifically, Articles 5 and 6 of the GDPR, which govern the lawfulness and principles of data processing, would be violated by the introduction of such measures. The implementation of Client-Side Scanning (CSS) on devices means that all messages and files are scanned on the user's device before being encrypted and sent. This effectively nullifies the protection offered by end-to-end encryption and opens the door to misuse and additional security vulnerabilities. Moreover, the technical capability to scan such content could be exploited by malicious actors to circumvent or manipulate surveillance mechanisms. Such far-reaching surveillance measures not only endanger privacy but also freedom of expression. The knowledge that their private messages are being scanned and monitored could significantly restrict individuals' willingness to freely express themselves. Additionally, trust in digital communication platforms would be severely undermined. I urge you to take a strong stance against this disproportionate and unlawful measure. The privacy and digital rights of EU citizens must be safeguarded. It is imperative that we protect our fundamental rights and ensure transparency in the decision-making processes of our leaders. For more detailed information on the proposal and its implications, please refer to the following resource: Link to Netzpolitik article. https://www.patrick-breyer.de/rat-soll-chatkontrolle-durchwinken-werde-jetzt-aktiv/ Thank you for your attention to this critical matter. good evening reddit users, welcome to the website. not seen one of these that tells you how to make this website bearable so here goes
Tumblr media
starting off with dashboard settings you want to turn off endless scrolling (it slows down the website after a while of scrolling), turn off shorten long posts because one of the main things about this website is the total lack of a character limit (as an alternative to this setting, you can press j to skip to the next post on the dashboard if the current one is kind of long). turning on timestamps is convenient because it allows you to check when a post was made (don't get me wrong: this website absolutely LOVES reblogging old posts, but there are times when it's worth checking if a post has very old news in it)
Tumblr media
turn off best stuff first right away. one of the main reasons cited for joining tumblr is because "there is no algorithm". this is not entirely true, we have one but we routinely turn off anything algorithmic that staff adds. turning off best stuff first means your dashboard will be reverse chronological no matter what, and turning off based on your likes and stuff in your orbit will get rid of the rest of the algorithmically-recommended content that appears on your dashboard
following tags is nice because you will occasionally see posts with tags you follow sprinkled into your dashboard. this is considered good because it's almost always recent, I personally recommend turning on include followed tag posts and just following a bunch of random tags that you think could be interesting (characters, media, topics, whatever)
Tumblr media
this one's a more personal thing but I would absolutely turn off any community labels because tumblr staff has recently been just putting a bunch of random posts under this despite being entirely sfw. if you ACTUALLY want to filter content, then go to filtered tags:
Tumblr media
unlike the community labels which are put arbitrarily by staff, tags are put on by the actual users and so you can MUCH more reliably filter out content you don't want to see by putting filtered tags. this also works for any kind of content unlike the community labels, meaning you can just filter out stuff that you don't want to see (a particular character, a particular piece of media, a certain topic, anything you want really)
Tumblr media
turn on custom theme immediately. the standard view of tumblr.com/url will give people who are not logged in a forced login wall, meanwhile url.tumblr.com will not. by doing this you also get access to your post archive at url.tumblr.com/archive, which lets you look through your posts more easily (the search function is awful). the main benefit of this, however, is that you get to have a custom look to your blog: going to edit theme brings up a menu that allows you to customize your css, add pages to your tumblr blog, etc. all very useful stuff
it's also worth taking the time to consider whether or not you leave your liked posts and list of blogs you follow public (most people have likes turned off, following is also commonly turned off but I personally don't care about others seeing who I follow)
Tumblr media
turn off the let people blaze your posts. blaze basically allows you to pay money to show a post to a random group of people by paying money, suffices to say that allowing others to blaze your posts without your consent will inevitably lead to one of your personal posts getting blazed by some prick and now hundreds of people have seen it
asks are one of the main ways of interacting with blogs so absolutely turn them on. whether you allow anons is your choice, anonymity allows people to say nice things without feeling embarrassed about how everyone knows who said that, but it also allows people to send hateful stuff with no consequence.
submissions are like whatever. I personally leave them on but in my 5 years of having this blog I've been submitted to twice.
to close off this post I'll leave my personal thoughts on reblog etiquette:
reblogging is great. reblog the fuck out of anything. does the post amuse you slightly? reblog it. go wild
that being said please don't put anything in your reblogs unless it's like a really important comment. your comment will be immortalized forever if someone reblogs the post from you and on popular posts I have to constantly go back a couple years to get rid of an annoying comment like "LOL THIS IS SO FUNNY" because that person didn't realize that their addition was wholly unnecessary
if you DO want to add something to say your thoughts on the post in a quiet voice that doesn't get permanently added onto the original, consider talking in the tags of your reblog. this is considered nicer since when the post is reblogged from you your tags are not going to stick around. there is also this process known as "peer review" in which if your tags are sufficiently funny one of your followers (or sometimes a random person browsing the notes of the post) will screenshot/copy and paste your tags into a reblog, which is a much more natural way of having your comment added into the post
tags are also nice to use or organizational purposes. clicking on a post with a certain tag on your blog will show you every post with that tag on your blog allowing you to find posts later, alternatively you can go to url.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/[insert tag here] to a similar effect.
that's all I have to say on this subject. have fun on our glorious website
edit: oh yeah also unfollow staff. it will make you look normal 👍
