Boundary Rider's Hole

This was a watering hole for the rabbit proof fence boundary riders. Their job was to patrol the fence and repair any breaks in it to stop rabbits getting into the wheat fields area of Western Australia. It fell into disuse around WWII when the rabbits finally got into the wheatfields area.

The info board didn't say how deep it is.

have been holding their

arms out

a long time now

to birds

that will not

settle there

but pass with

strange cawings

westward to

where dark trees

gather about

a waterhole. This

is Kansas. The

mountains start here

just behind

the closed eyes

of a farmer's

sons asleep

in their workclothes.
