The Boys in the Boat (2023)
A 1930s-set story centered on the University of Washington's rowing team, from their Depression-era beginnings to winning gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
A really uplifting and feel good sports drama set in the 1930s. It is predictable but yet still very enjoyable. I really enjoyed it. This is also an excellent movie that you can watch with the whole family.
P.S. I think Callum Turner should throw in his name into the "next Bond" ring. I think he has the potential to make an excellent Bond.

Washington State University scientists successfully tested a new way to produce sustainable jet fuel from lignin-based agricultural waste. Published in the journal Fuel Processing Technology, the team's research demonstrated a continuous process that directly converts lignin polymers, one of the chief components of plant cells, into a form of jet fuel that could help improve performance of sustainably produced aviation fuels. "Our achievement takes this technology one step closer to real-world use by providing data that lets us better gauge its feasibility for commercial aviation," said lead scientist Bin Yang, professor in WSU's Department of Biological Systems Engineering.

If you like robots, or destruction, or robots destroying other robots, a very good friend of mine is in the WSU BattleBots club and they need funds for their Giant Death Robot, Painsaw!
If you can spare a few bucks, every donation counts!
More info under the cut!
What Is BattleBots?
BattleBots is a TV show where people build 250 pound robots with that, you guessed it, battle! Every episode is filled with pretty awesome destruction and people from all kinds of backgrounds doing what they love - building giant death robots and watching them beat each other up!
What Is This Fundraiser For?
This fundraiser (hosted through the official WSU (Washington State University) fundraiser website) is to fund Painsaw, The WSU robotics team's BattleBot! If they get enough funding, they'll have enough money to build, and repair, the robot, and might even make it to live TV on the show!
Why Should I Donate?
The robot will be 250 pounds, and at about $100 a pound (for $25,000 total), that adds up fast. Adding in that the robot needs spare parts and possibly extensive repairs after every battle, a lot of money needs to go into it. The people working on the project are mostly engineering students, who are building this robot for fun and experience, and it would mean the world to them (and me) if the project gets funded fully!
(Also the person who brings in the most donations gets to take home a piece of the destroyed robot. Isn't that cool??)
(the donation goal is set to $2,500 dollars, but it should keep going afterwards, and thats only a fraction of their real goal. If they get $5,000 in donations they throw a pizza party!)
TL;DR: if you have some loose change you feel like throwing around, you should consider donating to Painsaw! It would mean the world to me, my friend on the team, and everyone else there!

Here's an article talking about the study from the tweets. One important note, a review found no scientific misconduct. Rob Wielgus did not have his credibility stripped by the scientific community. He was thrown under the bus by WSU.

Researchers develop carbon-negative concrete
A viable formula for a carbon-negative, environmentally friendly concrete that is nearly as strong as regular concrete has been developed at Washington State University.
In a proof-of-concept work, the researchers infused regular cement with environmentally friendly biochar, a type of charcoal made from organic waste, that had been strengthened beforehand with concrete wastewater. The biochar was able to suck up to 23% of its weight in carbon dioxide from the air while still reaching a strength comparable to ordinary cement.
The research could significantly reduce carbon emissions of the concrete industry, which is one of the most energy- and carbon-intensive of all manufacturing industries. The work, led by doctoral student Zhipeng Li, is reported in the journal, Materials Letters.
"We're very excited that this will contribute to the mission of zero-carbon built environment," said Xianming Shi, professor in the WSU Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the corresponding author on the paper.

January 6th - A Secret Kept
January 6th, 2024 is the 60th anniversary of our first wedding. It started as a dare. Surprise, surprise it lasted! The beginning was a bit unusual. Ken and I met in 1962 at a Junior Achievement Meeting. He went to the rival high school across town. We began dating in February 1963. It was a rocky romance at best. He proposed on our third date. My response was to laugh. Ridiculous I said. We’re…
