Seattle Central's Alumni Spotlight: Cam Karsten
Karsten’s goal during this academic hiatus was to become a writer. “I was collecting stories and characters, learning through real-world experiences rather than studying books and taking tests,” he explained. At first, Karsten would hunker down at internet cafes to write stories to his friends and family. But when he discovered a travel blog community of fellow backpackers, he started sharing his travelling tales to a much more global audience under the blog name cam2yogi, a nod to his deep interest in Buddhist philosophy he developed travelling through Asia.
Here’s a retrospective of my path to commercial photography via Seattle Central’s Creative Academy. Always a treat to have someone interested in your story, and the hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Original post can be found here. For budding photographers, Seattle Central Creative Academy alumni Cameron Karsten (‘12 [I think ’13…]) offers simple, yet pragmatic advice: “Shoot what…

Hopefully coming back to posting after being away for a bit - had a trip with Partner M to Seattle! It was very fun - Seattle is a true "water city" like I have not been to in quite a while. DC, NYC, Tokyo, etc, are all on the water in various forms, but their connection to it has withered into the purely recreational. Seattle meanwhile is built so heavily around the Puget Sound and the lakes and rivers that it feeds, defining city districts & the local "downtowns", such that you are always aware of the flows around you. We took a ferry out to Bainbridge Island - which was a huge ferry carrying hundreds of cars every half hour because that is the most efficient way to cross the Sound to the towns on the other side - and there is nothing like dozens of marinas and fleets of sailboats out on the water to make a bay feel alive:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of this is, of course, something of a larp - the heart of downtown Seattle (the Central Waterfront) has a million fish shacks and crab huts on the docks, with parks and walkways, because, of course you have fish restaurants on sea, right? It is where you catch the fish? But it isn't, you aren't fishing at scale right next to skyscrapers anymore - those fish are imported from distant aquaculture farms just like any meat would be, these restaurants are only here for the style points. They aren't even legacy - the central docks in Seattle began closing down in the 1960's as industrial-scale container dockyards were set up in the south with truckyards for interior shipping, and much of this area was only revitalized starting in the 2000's via a city project to build a recreational zone. The tale of every American city in the post-industrial era, right?
But not all of it is nostalgia - Seattle also boasts the Ballard Locks, the US's busiest by ship traffic, which connects the Puget Sound to the Salmon Bay & Lake Washington. Very coolly, the whole thing is an accessible park - and crossing it is a typical way a pedestrian would get from the neighborhoods of Ballard to Magnolia. We were lucky enough to arrive when a boat was passing under the paired bridge and through the locks; so we got to watch humanity's oldest technology of civilization at work, raising a boat through the magic of tight gates and buoyancy forces:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These locks also have the Salmon Ladder, so migrating salmon can swim upriver in the fall and breed without being stuck in the gates. It wasn't the season for it so no fishies for me, but it was still extremely cute.
The locks, like the rest of the city, also have a fleet of enchanted crows who watch the boats for signs of trouble - a smart use of mana by the local mage's council:
Tumblr media
Anyway, water-nature was only half of our trip: our other focus was being Huge Nerds around the college neighborhood of the University of Washington. And I gotta say, this fucked, I was not expecting this area of town to be as cool as it was - it might be in the top 5 coolest areas in the US for this kind of vibe. An endless stretch of coffee shops, chinese noodle houses, record stores, vintage & thrift, and - critical for me - the highest density of weeb shit this side of LA's Little Tokyo. The standout was ofc Scarecrow video, though I will also highlight Neptune Records:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Partner M discussed Scarecrow in her own post, so I won't belabor it here - though look out for a later post on one of the videos we rented - but I wanted to give Neptune a shout out for being the Scarecrow Video of Music. It was floor-to-ceiling records, CDs, and cassettes stuffed into every nook and cranny that could take them; every shot shelf was so dense. As is tradition for me, whenever I visit a record store I ask after my quixotic dream of owning a Plumtree record, and typically the person goes "who is that" and opens their computer to check their inventory. At Neptune though:
"Do you have, miraculously, any Plumtree in stoc-"
"Nope"
"Oh, you know them?"
"Nope. But I know I don't got 'em"
This man has memorized his entire collection of surely >10,000 items and knew instantly Plumtree wasn't one of them. He didn't even make eye contact during this. Now that's autism, baby <3.
On the weeb side my stand-out store was Hifi Lofi, an eclectic buy-sell-trade store right by campus. Honestly when it comes to anime stores in the US, they have a huge "sameness" problem - all stocking the same Ghibli notebooks and Shounen Jump shows minifigs and the like. Hifi Lofi didn't truck in any of that, instead splicing a grunge-DJ vibe and intentional buys by the owner with whatever-the-fuck the community dumped on them. They had Pinky St figurines! I have never seen those in the US outside of cons. They had an entire collection of Neon City Records synthwave vinyl, which tells me exactly how terminally online they were in the late 2010's, mad respect (never did get one of their jackets, alas). I spoke to the owner, and they partnered with a local graphic designer to spec out their place and otherwise actually were making good money on the buy-sell margins while doing thrice yearly trips to Japan for specific merch hauls:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here I think Seattle is reflecting its own economic demography - large Asian American population, lots of technology companies attracting a wealthy, nerdy consumer base, and most importantly a large, public university located right near the city center so the student population and the city population can intermingle. You would be surprised how uncommon that last part is! Not unique of course, but many "flagship" big universities are in their own college towns or positioned right at the edge of the city. When the University of Washington was founded in the mid 19th century, it was at said "edge" - Seattle was a tiny port town at the time, and grew far faster than anyone could have anticipated. All these demos mixing together makes for a great hub for artsy commerce. Given my fantasy dream of opening a manga cafe/anime theatre, and how difficult that would be in DC, seeing a place where it actually seemed maybe-viable was nice.
City is so nerd-friendly we saw a string of protest stickers by some strident fujoshi over the racebending casting of Severus Snape in the HBO remake:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr is truly amoung us wherever you go.
Speaking of, I was actually planning on posting to see if any mutuals in the Seattle area wanted to get coffee - but alas I had a throat issue this trip which made talking a slight struggle :/ I got through it fine but it meant I had to save my talking points for partner. Next time though!
Okay, that is my self-indulgent record-of-my-trip post done lol - may future posts be more general interest.

Incomplete vs. overshoot
Tumblr media
I'm on tour with my new novel The Bezzle! Catch me TONIGHT in Seattle (Feb 26) with Neal Stephenson, then Portland, Phoenix and more!
Tumblr media
You know the "horseshoe theory," right? "The far-left and the far-right, rather than being at opposite and opposing ends of a linear continuum of the political spectrum, closely resemble each other, analogous to the way that the opposite ends of a horseshoe are close together":
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe_theory
It's a theory that only makes sense if you don't know much about the right and the left and what each side wants out of politics.
Take women's suffrage. The early suffragists ("suffragettes" in the UK) were mostly interested in votes for affluent, white women – not women as a body. Today's left criticizes the suffrage movement on the basis that they didn't go far enough:
https://www.npr.org/2011/03/25/134849480/the-root-how-racism-tainted-womens-suffrage
Contrast that with Christian Dominionists – the cranks who think that embryos are people (though presumably not for the purpose of calculating a state's electoral college vote? Though it would be cool if presidential elections turned on which side of a state line a fertility clinic's chest-freezer rested on):
https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm/segments/how-alabama-ivf-ruling-was-influenced-christian-nationalism-on-the-media?tab=summary
These people are part of a far-right coalition that wants to abolish votes for women. As billionaire far-right bagman Peter Thiel wrote that he thought it was a mistake to let women vote at all:
https://www.cato-unbound.org/2009/04/13/peter-thiel/education-libertarian/
Superficially, there's some horseshoe theory action going on here. The left thinks the suffragists were wrong. The right thinks they were wrong, too. Therefore, the left and the right agree!
Well, they agree that the suffragists were wrong, but for opposite reasons – and far, far more importantly, they totally disagree about what they want. The right wants a world where no women can vote. The left wants a world where all women can vote. The idea that the right and the left agree on women's suffrage is, as the physicists say, "not even wrong."
It's the kind of wrong that can only be captured by citing scripture, specifically, A Fish Called Wanda, 6E, 79: "The central message of Buddhism is not 'Every man for himself.' And the London Underground is not a political movement. Those are all mistakes, Otto. I looked them up."
Or take the New Deal. While the New Deal set its sites on liberating workers from precarity, abuse and corruption, the Dealers – like the suffragists – had huge gaps in their program, omitting people of color, indigenous people, women, queer people, etc. There are lots of leftists who criticize the New Deal on this basis: it didn't go far enough:
https://livingnewdeal.org/new-deal-and-race/
But for the past 40 years, America has seen a sustained, vicious assault on New Deal programs, from Social Security to Medicare to food stamps to labor rights to national parks, funded by billionaires who want to bring back the Gilded Age and turn us all into forelock-tugging plebs:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/11/06/the-end-of-the-road-to-serfdom/
If you only view politics as a game of elementary school cliques, you might say that the left and the right are meeting again. The left says Roosevelt got it wrong with the New Deal (because he left out so many people). The right says FDR was wrong for doing the New Deal in the first place. Therefore, the left and the right agree, right?
Obviously wrong. Obviously. Again, the important thing is why the left and the right think the New Deal deserves criticism. The important thing is what the left and the right want. The left wants universal liberation. The right wants us all in economic chains. They do not agree.
It's not always just politics, either. Take the old, good internet. That was an internet defined by technological self-determination, a wild and wooly internet where there were few gatekeepers, where disfavored groups could find each other and make common cause, where users who were threatened by the greed of the shareholders behind big services could install blockers, mods, alternative clients and other "adversarial interoperability" tools that seized the means of computation.
Today's enshitternet – "five giant websites, filled with screenshots of the other four" (h/t Tom Eastman) – is orders of magnitude more populous than that old, good internet. The enshitternet has billions of users, and they are legally – and technologically – prevented from taking any self-help measures when the owners of services change them to shift value from users to themselves:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/19/twiddler/
The anti-enshittification movement rightly criticizes the old, good internet because it wasn't inclusive enough. It was a system almost exclusively hospitable to affluent, privileged people – the people who least needed the liberatory power of technology.
Likewise pro-enshittification monopolists – billionaires and their useful idiots – deplore the old, good internet because it gave its users too much power. For them, ad-blocking, alternative clients, mods, reverse-engineering and so on were all bugs, not features. For them, the enshitternet is great because businesses can literally criminalize taking action to protect yourself from their predatory impulses:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/10/20/benevolent-dictators/#felony-contempt-of-business-model
Superficially, it seems like the pro- and anti-enshittification forces agree – they both agree that the old, good internet was a mistake. But the difference that matters here is that the pro-enshittification side wants everyone mired in the enshitternet forever, living with what Jay Freeman calls "Felony contempt of business-model." By contrast, the disenshittification side wants a new, good internet that gives every user – not just a handful of techies – the power to decide how the digital systems they work use, and to be able to alter or reconfigure them to suit their own needs.
The horsehoe theory only makes sense if you don't take into account the beliefs and goals of each side. Politics aren't just a matter of who you agree with on a given issue – the real issue is what you're trying to accomplish.
Tumblr media

This is long.
I had dinner last night with my friend/employee who’s here for a work trip. He had some incredibly profound things to say about the election that I’m still thinking about today.
I’m reflecting on where I could have been braver. Where I could have been kinder. Mostly, on a part of my life where I was on staff with Young Life, a Christian organization I was heavily involved in during college, and afterwards. When I graduated, I signed up to support a small tutoring program in Seattle’s Central district with at-risk kids that were little, not in high school. Mostly Black and Samoan. My parents hated it. I was the rebel.
The most profound thing I experienced from that year was seeing and contending with my own racism. My classism. I learned how my family had made choices in where we lived so it was predominantly white. I felt unsafe being the minority. I hated how I was seen differently by the other white people in camp, I was there with the kids who made them uncomfortable. I saw how much my identity was viscerally tied to being one of them, these white leaders who had so much fun, were so funny and made me feel like I belonged to a group of people who wouldn’t reject me. But it was these kids who made them do that, I thought to myself. Now they see me as “other”. I hated it.
I remember buying a brand new car and the kids oohing and hanging over it, and I felt sick, realizing the wealth disparity between us. I was 22 years old, realizing some of this for the first time.
It was the most uncomfortable time of my life, I hated almost every second of it but I emerged from it differently, mostly because my Black and Samoan colleagues were so kind to me. I confessed a lot to them - I asked a lot of questions that were likely exhausting for them. They never called me a racist, even though it would have been true. They never scolded me. They loved me and were excited for me that I was on this journey. They were right next to me the whole way. They weren’t shy about asking me questions or saying hard things. They moved in a way where I felt deeply accepted in my vulnerability. Looking back, how hard that must have been in the face of my ignorance is not something I take lightly. It was by far, the most foundational year of my life, I think about some aspect of it almost everyday. I became more aware. Less racist. More empathetic. It changed me permanently.
One man in particular, a speaker at a camp, said something to me that became a core memory. There was a certain girl that was very tough, and I was trying to figure out how to be with her. He just stared at me, probably bewildered and said “just hang out.” that answer baffled me at the time, mostly because I had no idea how to do that with anybody. He spoke to a large group of people after that, mostly white people, and someone asked him how they’ll know they aren’t a racist anymore. He quietly said “when you are willing to give a person of color the full and complete control - the last word - on who they are.” I’ve never forgotten that. Isn’t that what any of us want?
There’s much to be humbled by. Am I invested in being angry, or effective? Everyone infuriated me during this election - Trump supporters, Christians, Andrew Tate supporters, Joe Rogan fans Jill Stein supporters, even pro-Gaza supporters and a lot of the Leftists in the political landscape. I was furious with everyone who wasn’t completely behind Harris. I called people racist on the internet. I called them evil. I scolded, I routinely and regularly vented my moral outrage. The worst part is that I meant it.
So this is my confession, this hatred. My misuse of moral outrage. My need to feel like I was liked. My rage when someone wasn’t acting in my own very specific terms. My behavior that made so many defensive instead of supported.
Ironically, those who I felt were screaming at me (broadly, not specifically) for my Whiteness, for not supporting Gaza enough, saying I support genocide if I didn’t do or say or agree with their very specific terms of support absolutely shut me down and I felt myself pulling further away from them, just keeping all of my thoughts to myself. I wasn’t brave enough to say it out loud and felt like I couldn’t, after all it was largely this group that got us a decent candidate in the first place. Were they right, and I was just being defensive? Well yeah - they were right. And yes, I was defensive. Maybe I didn’t care enough. All I knew is I was tired of being told my level of care was not acceptable, and trying to appreciate the position that the VP was in with our Ally as Putin pushes further into Europe meant I didn’t care at all. That was not giving me the last word on who I am, and I was pissed. I stopped learning about it, I minimized my engagement with them. There was no psychological safety to be vulnerable.
It’s overly simplistic to say who is at the heart of that blame-wise. I think it’s more important to acknowledge it’s pretty human, and the damage it causes when we go underground is significant. And that in this decolonizing journey, I still don’t know how much of the oppressed opinions of me I need to accept if it doesn’t ring true for me in my soul. If there’s any space to say “no you’re wrong about me.”
And I have to wonder if that’s how a lot of people in the country who voted for Trump felt about me. I know that’s true. I wanted to feel like I was part of “the best”, and I treated them as though they weren’t. I hated their character - I still do. They genuinely frighten me. But being the same as those who I saw as the most righteous was more important to me than anything else, it was more important to belong to those I saw as “right” vs being effective. It’s my need to have a family. To not be alone.
It is also my Whiteness, needing to never feel rejected or that someone is mad at me, that’s how it manifests most for me but I’m glad I’m at the place where I am know it’s not entirely that. I am not my Whiteness entirely, though people can and do see me that way. I still get to acknowledge those other aspects of me that many might be unwilling or just not invested in seeing.
Getting at the root cause of why we (white women) do so much damage is mystery and is pretty personal but I think there has to be space for vulnerability to see the brokenness inside of us that is the source of so much unconscious, harmful behavior. There are margins of us that are broken and kind of insane - what do we need to get ahold of it? Is there any solution? I don’t know, beyond something supernatural but I do know being scolded by those who are aligned with elevated values does not seem effective. Part of me as I write that says “oh my God, are you saying you need to be managed and catered to?” that’s gross if the answer is yes, and exhausting. I just don’t know what’s truly effective in promoting change. Part of me wonders if full change is possible and we just need to be overcome/minimized/outnumbered. Its possible.
So I own a lot of contribution to this failure. This rage I feel is weird, particularly when I''m not going to be hurt much by any of this. I need to figure out what parts of it are grounded in empathy and which parts aren't. All I can do is be more honest about my missteps, my own lack of character and braver in talking about it and hope the journey will find some companions along the way. Or not, most of this is a journey we take alone, I guess.
Do you want to be angry or do you want to be effective, Diane. You can be both, but not when they cancel the other out.

Nate Long (April 6, 1930 - November 14, 2002) was a filmmaker, television producer, director, stuntman, actor, and teacher who worked both in Hollywood and the Pacific Northwest. He was born in Philadelphia. He joined the Air Force, became a military policeman, and completed his service at Paine Field. While in the Air Force, he earned a black belt in judo. He taught judo and karate to children through Seattle’s Central Area Motivation Project.
His interest turned to mass media and he created Oscar Productions, a Seattle-based photography, cinematography, and television production training program for inner-city high school and college students. He and his students produced a weekly public affairs program, Action Inner City, and a monthly show titled Aggin News.
He produced two award-winning television series videotaped in the Pacific Northwest. The first was South by Northwest, produced, and the sequel was The Second Time Around. Both series, funded by the US government, chronicled the lives of African American settlers in the Pacific Northwest. South by Northwest was one of the first productions to use videotape to record exterior scenes.
It earned the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Award and the New York Film Festival Award. He became one of the early African American second unit directors in the motion picture industry. His second unit director credits included The Slams, Mr. Billion (aka The Windfall), and Over the Edge. He worked on the feature film Tex, thus becoming the first African American selected to be a second unit director for a Walt Disney film.
He performed stunts in Tex, Mr. Billion, and The Slams, as well as Hit Man, Truck Turner, and White Line Fever. He was the stunt coordinator for Tex and White Line Fever. He was a member of the Directors Guild of America, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the Association of Black Motion Picture and Television Producers, and the Alliance of Black Entertainment Technicians.
He designed and implemented the first two-year film program at Seattle Central Community College. He established and managed similar media programs at TSU and Texas A&M University. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Meet the Band: Pilot Seat
Oh hello once again, blawgers! Yes, I am back to drop one last installment of my "Meet the Band" series until spring quarter! Today, I’m excited to introduce you to another incredible local band: Pilot Seat. This indie/psych/pop trio consists of Eli Bloom (vocals and guitar), Bret Shelley (bass guitar), and Everett Farrand (drums) who sadly couldn't make the interview.
The band has been going strong for three years, starting back in their days at Shoreline High School. It all began when Shelley was releasing music on his own during junior year. A schoolmate, Bloom, discovered Shelley’s tracks and reached out to collaborate. “I was nervous to join a band since I was used to doing my own thing,” Shelley shared, “but after a couple of jam sessions, we just clicked.” The chemistry was undeniable. After a feature in their high school newspaper, the realization hit—they didn’t even have a name.
“We started looking around the studio room [Shelley’s home basement], and I saw the chair we actually produce the music in,” Shelley explained. “We call it the Pilot Seat, and that’s how the band name was born.”
By the middle of their senior year, Pilot Seat was fully up and running, culminating in the highlight of their high school journey: playing at their senior prom. When college began, the band members went their separate ways, with Shelley heading to an arts school in Portland and Bloom and Farrand enrolling at the University of Washington. Despite the distance, the band stayed committed, playing one or two shows a month and creating music during school breaks. “I’m close enough to where it’s doable,” Shelley said. “This band is really important to all three of us, and I can’t imagine not being a part of it.” Their favorite shows are house gigs, where the energy from the crowd keeps them motivated. “We love when people go berserk at house shows,” Bloom said. “It makes us give it all we’ve got because the crowd gives it right back.”
When it comes to musical inspiration, Shelley said, “I draw a lot from jam bands like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, My Bloody Valentine, and Candy Claws.” Bloom chimed in, saying, “This is always such a hard question. My parents introduced me to a lot of 60s and 70s music as a kid, so my early inspirations were The Beatles, Nirvana, and Jimi Hendrix. Over time, I’ve expanded to loving bands like My Bloody Valentine, The Police, and Mk.gee.”
Pilot Seat has had some incredible moments on stage. Shelley fondly recalled performing at the Central Saloon, saying, “It was amazing to see pictures of Alice in Chains and Nirvana on the walls and to think we played on the same stage.” Another major milestone was being part of the Sound Off showcase at Seattle’s MoPOP Museum. “Getting that call saying we made it was unreal,” Bloom said. “It was a great opportunity to connect with the local music scene and gain more exposure.” One of their wildest shows was at a church, where they were the final act of the night. After the first band’s set, a fog machine malfunctioned, triggering the fire alarm. Chaos erupted as the fire department and landlord showed up, cutting all the sets down to 15 minutes. “I just remember being fueled with rage the whole time,” Bloom laughed. “It wasn’t anger, really—just adrenaline from all the randomness. That show always makes me think, ‘How did we even do that?’”
Looking ahead, the band has big goals. Bloom shared, “In the next couple of years, we hope to tour up and down the West Coast.” They also plan to record an album this year, with a couple of songs already in the works. Shelley shared his songwriting process, saying, “I like starting with memorable bass lines, then building drums and adding synths until we have a full song.” For Bloom, creativity often strikes spontaneously. “Ideas will sit in the back of my head for a while,” he said. “Sometimes, I’ll come up with a 30-second riff on the guitar and not revisit it for five months.” The band admitted that finding lyrics can be the toughest part, but the rush of completing a song always pushes them forward.
And now, for my signature question: What do you love about music? Here’s what Pilot Seat had to say:
Eli Bloom- “There’s such a human part to music that makes me speechless, and I always think about how miserable life can be without music. Music has been an obsession since I can remember, every major experience can be correlated to a soundtrack of my life. It really defines the human experience, connecting with people through some sound instead of using words as an outlet.”
Bret Shelley- “I love the way music makes me feel, I’ll listen to a song, and the way the chords are moving is enough to bring me to tears. I’ve had so many incredible moments in my life with music and I try to hunt that down to invoke that feeling in the music I create.”
Stay tuned for their next steps, and don’t miss their upcoming shows around Seattle. This is one band you’ll want to watch!

Article: 'EA Sports and EA Games Splitting Apart in Internal Shakeup'
EA is undergoing a major internal reorganization, with EA Games being renamed "EA Entertainment." Electronic Arts is undergoing a major internal shakeup, announcing today in a message from CEO Andrew Wilson that it is realigning its major studios and its leadership structure in an effort to "empower our creative teams." The reorganization includes splitting EA Games and EA Sports, with the former being renamed "EA Entertainment" in a signal that EA intends to expand beyond games where possible. "We’re building the future of interactive entertainment on a foundation of legendary franchises and innovative new experiences, which represents massive opportunities for growth," Wilson wrote in a message announcing the news. Laura Miele, previously EA's Chief Operating Officer, will take over as EA President of Entertainment, Technology, and Central Development at EA Entertainment, where she will work closely with Vince Zampella and other well-known executives. Cam Weber, who rose out of EA's football games, will continue to lead EA Sports. Both will enjoy expanded control over their respective labels intended to give them more oversight over budgets and decision-making flexibility. Wilson will continue to preside over both organizations as EA's CEO. The moves coincide with news that Chief Experiences Officer Chris Bruzzo is retiring, with EA Chief Financial Officer Chris Suh also departing the company. David Tinson and Stuart Canfield respectively will take over their responsibilities. The moves are the latest in what has been a major reorganization for EA. Earlier this month, we reported that Star Wars: The Old Republic is on course to move to a third-party developer, with many of its developers being given the opportunity to move elsewhere in the company. It's unclear whether the current reorganization will result in layoffs. As before, EA Sports will continue to look after the F1 series, which just releases, as well as PGA Tour and the newly-acquired Super Mega Baseball. This is on top of traditional blockbusters including Madden, the newly-renamed EA Sports FC, NHL, and the upcoming College Football reboot. EA Entertainment, meanwhile, will encompass Respawn, DICE, Ripple Effect, Ridgeline Games (Battlefield), Full Circle (Skate), Motive Studio (Iron Man), EA's Seattle studio, BioWare, and the EA Originals label. EA also includes numerous mobile games, including Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and the recently-released Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth. While dramatic on the face of it, much of the current structure will remain intact, with Zampella continuing to lead Respawn and Battlefield. Samantha Ryan will likewise continue to be in charge of BioWare, Maxis, Full Circle, and Motive Studios. Apart from giving studios leaders more control over their respective domains, the big change appears to be centered on separating out EA Sports, which continues to be EA's biggest profit driver. EA's soccer sims in particular continue to be major money machines for EA, with FIFA 23 pushing the publisher near $2 billion in net bookings. "Over the coming months, Stuart, Laura, Cam, and David will partner closely with studio leaders to implement these organizational changes, further embedding dedicated capabilities into franchise teams and driving operational rigor," Wilson wrote, claiming that "EA's business remains strong."

Talked to my mom’s sister last night and found out a wild thanksgiving day story.
For context, my mom is the third of four daughters all four years apart (planned by mom grandma so they wouldn’t be paying for college for more than one daughter at a time). the Seattle sister is the oldest and never bonded with their dad because he was in the navy when she was born and didn’t meet her until she was two. The sister who went to Colorado was one of the two favorites along with the youngest.
Before I was born, my mom’s parents lived in central NM and my mom and two of her sisters lived in Northern NM, and the one I spoke to yesterday lived in Seattle. Their parents decided to host at their home but not invite the Seattle sister, and so my mom invited her. So then their dad threw a fit and said he wouldn’t come, and then the second oldest daughter said she and her husband needed to be in Colorado try and get pregnant (they had a son later who is in his forties now). So my mom tried to get the Seattle sister to come out and just have thanksgiving with my mom and dad but she decided to stay home.
She also in this conversation shared that their father had hit her a lot growing up, which my mom didn’t know about.
This is all on top of the fact that my mom is estranged from the other two sisters because they cut her out after she confronted their dad about being abused as a child.

As a fellow "Hawkins is toast" truther, where do you think that our main families will go in the end?
Hi Nonny,
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this. So idk if I'm 100% on team "Hawkins is toast" but I'm at least 80%. So that being said, I've really only thought about where like the Hopper-Byers-Wheelers Families end up until now.
So I think Jonathan, Nancy, Will & Mike eventually settle in NYC. Subsequently, I feel like Joyce & Hopper live somewhere in upstate NY so they can be close to the kids. I've always thought of El living closer to Hopper & Joyce but idk lately I've been thinking about her living in Chicago (typically I think Robin, Steve & Dustin live here) or California (I usually picture Max here for college).
TBH my dream don't ask questions career for El is a flight attendant because she could see the world but I can also see her as owning like a color me mine type of place or just a craft store which she can do anywhere.
Anyways, because I AM NOT a Ted/Karen divorce truther (don't feel bad for karen she takes up interior design and has a very fulfilling career tbh.. still has a questionable failmarriage tho sorry babe) I tend to have them move down to Florida after Holly goes to college because it makes so much sense in my brain.
For Lucas, I usually picture him going to an HBCU (Hampton, Howard, Lincoln University or Central State University (if his parents are still in Hawkins) ) Then I think he moves in with Dustin in Chicago before getting a career offer in Seattle (Where he and Max have a very nice somewhat chaotic life together)
In terms of families, I could definitely see Claudia following Dustin to college even IF Hawkins survives so maybe she's in the Chicago suburbs or something. I think the Sinclair's would stay in Indiana so maybe Bloomington? (Again this is IF Hawkins survives)
I have no idea how this got so long.
