Talked to my mom’s sister last night and found out a wild thanksgiving day story.

For context, my mom is the third of four daughters all four years apart (planned by mom grandma so they wouldn’t be paying for college for more than one daughter at a time). the Seattle sister is the oldest and never bonded with their dad because he was in the navy when she was born and didn’t meet her until she was two. The sister who went to Colorado was one of the two favorites along with the youngest.

Before I was born, my mom’s parents lived in central NM and my mom and two of her sisters lived in Northern NM, and the one I spoke to yesterday lived in Seattle. Their parents decided to host at their home but not invite the Seattle sister, and so my mom invited her. So then their dad threw a fit and said he wouldn’t come, and then the second oldest daughter said she and her husband needed to be in Colorado try and get pregnant (they had a son later who is in his forties now). So my mom tried to get the Seattle sister to come out and just have thanksgiving with my mom and dad but she decided to stay home.

She also in this conversation shared that their father had hit her a lot growing up, which my mom didn’t know about.

This is all on top of the fact that my mom is estranged from the other two sisters because they cut her out after she confronted their dad about being abused as a child.
