Walter and Skyler are taking care of holly, putting her on her side while she was in the crib, and immediately drawing a parallel to jane putting Jesse into the recovery position, which was foreshadowing Walter watching jane die later in the season, and how much of a impact Jane and her father had on the show and Jesse, and how the atm scene influenced how Jesse would behave later in the show and how he'd behave around Andrea and Brock, and i could honestly make hundreds of posts analyzing Jesse's development over the series, how his living situation reflected his mental wellbeing at the time, and so many more aspects of him

I’ve just finished breaking bad for the first time, and I’m sure all of this has been said a million times over before, but I cannot get over how every character on that show is written.

Within the very first season/early episodes of season two, every single main character is shown to have a flaw in which they are either breaking the law or doing something morally wrong.

Skyler is smoking while pregnant.

Marie is compulsively shoplifting. (Then gifts a shoplifted item to Skyler and denies ever stealing it)

Hank is smoking illegal cigars.

Walt Junior is trying to underage drink.

Jesse is running a meth lab and frequently getting high.

And of course there’s Walt.

And in the very first season, these flaws are pivotal plot points to the characters. Marie’s shoplifting is often addressed when she’s on screen, Hank is questioned by Walt on his morality for smoking illegal cigars but then shutting down meth labs, Skyler smoking becomes a huge point to her character in s2.

However, out of all of these characters…Walter White is the only one who’s breaking the law for reasons other than his own personal gain. At the start. As the audience, we find ourselves sympathising with Walt the most because EVERYONE is doing something morally questionable but at least he’s making money for his family, right? At least he’s doing it so they’re taken care of after he’s gone. In season 1, Walt’s flaws are easily justified when compared to everyone else he’s surrounded by.

But at the show goes on, these flaws with the others are nothing in comparison to the crimes Walt commits. As the show goes on, Walt’s motives become more self serving and heinous and the guilt he feels for doing them is less. And the flaws of the others don’t just seem less when compared to the main plot line of whatever Walt’s up to, they are literally featured less. Skyler smoking becomes a regular background feature to a scene that she features in. Marie’s shoplifting streak restarting in s4 is merely a side plot that continues for one episode and one episode only. Hank never smokes a cigar on screen again. Jesse gets clean on and off but him actually shown getting high is the centre of scenes less and less. Walt Junior doesn’t try to get alcohol again. All of the things Walt used to justify his own moral high ground at the beginning are gone.

I just find it really really interesting.
