Egregio Signor Presidente,

In base a quanto da Ella affermato riguardo le dichiarazioni di Mr. Elon Musk (che cita implicitamente) mi permetto rispettosamente di richiederLe un piccolo chiarimento.

Premesso che, a mio modesto modo di vedere, esprimere un parere seppur molto forte, molto tranciante e in modo in modo diretto e brusco, non significa impartire prescrizioni, mi conformo fiducioso alla Sua interpretazione perché sicuramente, la Sua padronanza della nostra bella lingua è nettamente superiore alla mia.

In base a ciò però Le chiederei se mi potesse pazientemente e cortesemente illustrare in base a quale norma, a quale legge della Repubblica Italiana o a quale direttiva o accodo internazionale, i politici italiani sono esentati dal “rispettare la sovranità” di un altro grande paese democratico (forse il più grande) “nostro alleato e amico”?

Le chiedo ciò, Egregio Presidente, perché sono andato a rileggermi le dichiarazioni di alcuni politici italiani, allora tutti parlamentari o leader nazionali di partiti dell’allora coalizione di Governo, che furono rilasciate nel giugno del 2022, quando fu resa pubblica la Sentenza della Corte Suprema degli Stati Uniti che rovesciò il precedente pronunciamento della stessa (noto come Roe v. Wade) e risalente al 1977.

Di seguito ne trascrivo alcune:

Enrico Letta (PD): “La sentenza rappresenta un grave passo indietro, un segnale preoccupante per i diritti delle donne, una lezione che non dobbiamo dimenticare in Europa. Non possiamo permettere che conquiste civili vengano messe in discussione. Un gravissimo passo indietro sui diritti delle donne e un simbolo preoccupante di arretramento della democrazia e della libertà.”

Laura Boldrini (PD): “Un attacco gravissimo ai diritti umani delle donne. In Europa dobbiamo ricordare questa lezione per proteggere i diritti conquistati.”

Elly Schlein (PD): “È un colpo ai diritti e un monito: nessuna conquista è mai definitiva.”

Giuseppi Conte (M5S): “Il diritto all’aborto è una delle conquiste sociali su cui non si può tornare indietro. Non permetteremo movimenti retrogradi che mettono a rischio la libertà di scelta di ogni donna.”

Emma Bonino (Radicali): “È una grande delusione. Questo ci deve insegnare che i diritti non sono mai acquisiti, vanno difesi ogni giorno. La società non può mai dare per scontato ciò che ha conquistato.”

Forse gli Stati Uniti d’America non sanno badare a loro stessi?

"PURTROPPO ROCCELLA"   A Torino al Salone del libro la ministra alla Famiglia, Eugenia Roccella, quella che “purtroppo”; l’aborto è una libertà delle donne, è stata fortemente contestata. Quindici persone sono state identificate dalla Digos e denunciate. Alla faccia della libertà di espressione. La parlamentare, Augusta Montaruli, Fratella d’Italia, quella condannata in Cassazione per “spese pazze”, anche lei sul palco ha attaccato duramente il direttore del Salone, Nicola Lagioia per non aver difeso la ministra.   Questa la cronaca. Nel frattempo il movimento “Pro Vita & Famiglia” ha depositato in Cassazione una proposta di legge di iniziativa popolare che aggiunge il comma 1-bis all’art. 14 della legge 194/78, che recita così “Il medico che effettua l’IVG, (interruzione volontaria gravidanza) è obbligato a far vedere, tramite esami strumentali, alla donna intenzionata ad abortire, il nascituro che porta nel grembo e a farle ascoltare il battito cardiaco dello stesso”. Il che significherebbe aggiungere al dolore altro dolore. Come se chi compie questo passo non abbia già il suo tormento interiore. Già che c'erano potevano pure mettere un paio di frustate prima e dopo l'ascolto. L’iniziativa è una scopiazzatura della legge sul “battito fetale” in vigore in Ungheria. In realtà, spiega la Ginecologia, i feti nella fase iniziale della gravidanza, quando si verifica la maggior parte degli aborti, non hanno ancora un cuore funzionante, ma solo gruppi di cellule che inviano segnali elettrici. Il suono del “battito cardiaco”; viene generato dal monitor a ultrasuoni per rappresentare questi impulsi elettrici. Non è un vero suono di valvole cardiache che funzionano come si sente in un adulto o in un bambino usando uno stetoscopio. Da quando Orbán, definito dalla Meloni “patriota d’europa”, è salito al potere nel 2010, il suo governo ha promosso i “valori tradizionali della famiglia“ e ha introdotto una serie di misure volte a rispondere al calo della natalità nel Paese. Tuttavia, in precedenza non aveva mai tentato di modificare le leggi, già restrittive, che regolano il diritto all’aborto. La legge ungherese prevede che si possa abortire in quattro casi: gravidanza in conseguenza di un reato o violenza sessuale, pericolo per la salute della donna, embrione con handicap fisico grave, situazione sociale insostenibile della donna. Con la nuova legge introdotta nel 2022 c'è scritto che i medici dovranno presentare un documento che attesti l'avvenuto ascolto del battito del cuore del feto, senza il quale la paziente non potrà accedere all'interruzione di gravidanza. Leggi simili sono state introdotte in molti Stati del sud degli Usa, come il Texas e il Kentucky, anche in seguito al rovesciamento della “sentenza Roe v. Wade” che ne regolava la pratica a livello federale. Il timore, che misura dopo misura, di restrizione in restrizione, anche da noi, possa accadere qualcosa di analogo è più che fondato. “La cosa più grave sta avvenendo in Umbria. - ha denunciato la parlamentare di Sinistra Italiana Elisabetta Piccolotti - Abbiamo segnalazioni di donne che vogliono interrompere la gravidanza ma sono costrette ad ascoltare il battito del feto. Non si può fare l'operazione prima di ascoltare questo battito. Una pratica presente per legge nell'Ungheria di Orban. In Umbria non c'è una legge del genere ma si sta attuando questa pratica, costringendo le donne a tornare in ospedale più volte”. Nel primo giorno di lavori in Parlamento, lo ricordiamo, Maurizio Gasparri ha presentato un Ddl per modificare l’art. 1 del codice civile. In parole povere, il senatore di “Forza Italia “, vuole riconoscere la capacità giuridica al concepito, garantendogli pieni diritti già all'atto del concepimento e non dopo la nascita, come succede ora.  Quindi, occhio. Le donne che decidono di abortire, al contrario, meritano di trovare nei nostri ospedali personale capace di assistenza vera, e non di subire sofferenze ulteriori. E quasi mai è così, visto l’abuso che viene fatto dell’obiezione di coscienza.

Aborto: in Francia sta per diventare un diritto costituzionale

Tra qualche giorno la Francia potrebbe essere il primo Paese a sancire l'aborto come diritto costituzionale. Un messaggio forte al Paese e all'Europa intera. Gli ultimi disegni di legge, infatti, stanno riducendo sempre di più le possibilità per le donne di accedere all'interruzione volontaria di gravidanza. La nuova legge sull'aborto in Francia Il Senato francese ha approvato a larga maggioranza la proposta di legge sull'aborto. Su 317 voti espressi, 267 sono stati favorevoli e 50 i contrari. Un risultato per certi versi inatteso considerato che il Senato ha una maggioranza conservatrice e che il testo approvato è lo stesso licenziato dall'altro ramo del parlamento, l'Assemblea nazionale, senza nessun emendamento. Il fronte del no non ha avuto indicazioni di voto e ciascuno ha potuto votare secondo la propria coscienza. L'unico emendamento presentato, che proponeva di correggere l'espressione "libertà garantita", non è stato approvato. L'espressione in questione, tra l'altro, rappresentava già una correzione rispetto al termine "diritto" che qualcuno non ha voluto inserire. La vera novità di questa legge è che diventerà costituzionale pertanto, come ogni legge che va a modificare la Costituzione francese, dovrà essere approvata dal Congresso di Versailles, le due Camere riunite in seduta plenaria. Il Congresso si riunirà, secondo quanto disposto dal presidente Macron, lunedì 4 marzo e, considerati i numeri finora ottenuti, non dovrebbe essere difficile raggiungere i tre quinti dei consensi necessari. Un segnale per il Paese e l'Europa L'approvazione della legge, che arriverà presumibilmente la prossima settimana, concluderà un iter legislativo lungo e impegnativo. Iter iniziato nel 2022 su proposta di Emmanuel Macron. L'intento del presidente francese era dare un segnale chiaro all'Europa in un momento in cui sempre più governi dell'area attuavano leggi che limitavano la possibilità per le donne di ricorrere all'interruzione volontaria di gravidanza. Macron ha voluto fare qualcosa di più: "rendere irreversibile la libertà delle donne di ricorrere all'Interruzione volontaria di gravidanza (Ivg) iscrivendola nella Costituzione" come da lui stesso dichiarato in un post su X. Così, quando la riforma sarà approvata, la Costituzione riporterà all'articolo 34, quello che riguarda i diritti civili dei cittadini e delle cittadine francesi, la "libertà garantita alla donna all'interruzione di gravidanza". Un vento nuovo In questi anni abbiamo seguito, sulle pagine di questo giornale, il tema delicato dell'aborto. Abbiamo raccontato come la costante avanzata delle destre in Europa abbia portato a scelte politiche che consolidano posizioni antiabortiste in Polonia; l'abolizione della sentenza “Roe v Wade” del 1973 che aveva sancito negli USA il diritto di abortire. Abbiamo fotografato anche la situazione in Italia dove la legge 194 è messa in discussione. La notizia del ribaltamento dell sentenza "Roe v. Wade" e relativa eliminazione del diritto all'aborto a livello federale sarebbe già inquietante di per sé, ma il tenore con cui è stata commentata da alcuni la rende ancora più inquietante.

Certi avvenimenti degli Stati Uniti vengono raccontati un po’ come il cugino cocainomane che si è lanciato giù da un dirupo con un triciclo e ci ha lasciato 12 denti e un pezzo di lobo frontale. Qualcosa di sicuramente spiacevole ma che in fondo poteva capitare solo a qualcuno particolarmente fuori di testa e non certo a noialtri personcine posate.

Però.

Anche al netto di una serie di distinguo culturali, negli ultimi anni chi si fosse recato alla clinica ostetrica dell’ospedale Sant’Orsola della progressivissima Bologna anche solo per valutare un’interruzione di gravidanza avrebbe avuto una certa percentuale di rischio di dover letteralmente attraversare un drappello di cattointegralisti che si riunivano saltuariamente in “preghiere per la vita” davanti ad uno dei cancelli d’ingresso del policlinico.

Anche al netto di una serie di distinguo giuridici, pur avendo certi diritti formalmente sanciti dalla legge 194, dal 2005 al 2009 l’obiezione di coscienza del personale specializzato in ginecologia è saltata dal 58,7% al 70,7% su tutto il territorio nazionale. La denuncia e l’analisi di questi fenomeni, almeno dalle nostre parti, pare essere uno sport di nicchia riservato ad alcuni collettivi come Mujeres Libres, Non Una Di Meno e altri coordinamenti femministi e sostanzialmente ignorato da qualsiasi forza politica per non rischiare di alienarsi una manciata di voti prendendo una qualche posizione chiara.

Quello che mi pare emerga a intervalli regolari, e ultimamente sempre di più, è il solito discorso: i diritti sono come i letti, non basta usarli, ogni tanto tocca rifarli, cambiare le lenzuola e tutte quelle cosine lì.

In sostanza è un mero invito ai cazzoni Dems. di pensarle e scriverle meglio, le leggi restrittive delle libertà individuali. Wu and Yue Premodern Sources Available in English

Inspired by the recent discovery that someone just released a translation of Wu Yue Chun Qiu this year! There’s way more material available than I expected, and I thought it would be useful to collect them in one place for other people. Please let me know if I’ve made any mistakes/omissions!

(I haven’t included the sources that have, like crumbs of content, like the offhand mentions in a bunch of Warring States texts. These are all works that you can get a sense of the overall story from.)

For newcomers to the canon, my reading suggestions as an enthusiastic amateur are:

If you prefer history to fiction and/or want something short, read Wu Zixu’s bio in the Shiji

If you want to dive in, read Wu Yue Chun Qiu

In rough chronological order:

Zuozhuan (左传, Zuo Commentaries, Zuo Tradition)

A year-by-year account of the goings-on throughout the Chinese states as perceived by the state of Lu, with extensive commentary by a later author, covering most of the Spring and Autumn Period (771-476BC). The last three portions, covering Duke Zhao to Duke Ai of Lu’s reigns, include the earliest account of the events of Wu and Yue, which are quite interestingly different from later accounts. A lot of famous details don’t appear here. Wu Zixu’s vengeance and death are still pretty gnarly but less gnarly than they are in later adaptations.

Not recommended as your first account, because the bits on Wu and Yue are mixed in with the bits on all the many, many other states, and this version of events is heavily overshadowed in the popular consciousness by later versions. If someone’s making a Wu-Yue adaptation, not a lot of it is going to come from this version.

Shiji (史记, Records of the Grand Historian)

The work of ancient Chinese history writing. The relevant parts if you’re interested in Wu and Yue would be:

The biography of Wu Zixu (chapter 66). If you only want to read one thing and you want to keep it short, read this. It’s something like the definitive “base” account of his story, which spans the events of the era.

The biographies of Sun Wu (better known as Sun Tzu) and Fan Li, which make up portions of chapters 65 (Biographies of Sun Wu and Wu Qi) and 129 (Biographies of the Usurers/Moneymakers)

The Genealogy chapter for the royal house of Wu (chapter 31), which contains an annal-like accounts of events.

There’s also a Genealogy chapter for the Yue royals (chapter 41), but it doesn’t have an English translation

Translations:

There’s over a dozen piecemeal translations, but as of the present, there is not actually a single complete English translation of the Shiji. William Nienhauser is about 2/3 of the way through his, which will be the first if it’s completed. Fairly sure all the other translations are old enough that they use Wade-Giles rather than Pinyin, unfortunately. Referencing this list somebody compiled:

Volume V.1 of Nienhauser’s translation has the Wu royal house genealogy

Volume VII of Nienhauser’s translation has the Wu Zixu and Sun Wu biographies

Burton Watson has translated Wu Zixu and Fan Li’s biographies in Records of the Historian. Chapters from the Shih chi of Ssu-ma Ch’ien (1958)

I couldn’t find that specific edition on Internet Archives, but I did find a 1969 edition on there that seems to have both bios

I also came across this 1979 translation by Yang & Yang that seems to have all three biographies

Wu Yue Chun Qiu (吴越春秋, Spring and Autumn Annals of Wu and Yue)

We’re now about 500 years after the actual events, and the basic story has picked up more and more flourishes, though this is still regarded as history, if less reliable history than the above. This is the first appearance of Xi Shi, for one, and also the one mention of Princess Tengyu. Whatever actually happened, many of the details in this narrative are now indispensable parts of the story of Wu and Yue in the popular imagination. This is the primary canon that most later adaptations draw from.

Wu Zixu Bianwen (伍子胥变文, Wu Tsu-Hsu)

From a damaged document discovered in the Dunhuang caves, written about a thousand years after the actual events. This is just straight-up historical fiction now.

There is a lot of Wu Zixu historical fiction, in fact. All sorts of plays and operas and a good-sized chunk of the historical novel Dong Zhou Lie Guo Zhi. But as far as I know none of those are translated, and this is both translated and early!
