hiya!! ive been meaning to do this for awhileâŚ
but uh! this is a music analysis for thoschei for so long, london (taylor swift ) !!!
( @thetorturedlovergirl @dykethoschei )
âi saw in my mind fairy lights through the mistâ so i could be remembering wrong but i believe during the gallifrey flashbacks in divided loyalties, they talk about some sort of lights overhead? how koschei and theta probably saw them together.
âi kept calm and carried the weight of the riftâ koschei was dying inside all that time at the academy, but she couldnt let herself show it. for theta.
âpulled him in tighter each time he was drifting awayâ koschei tried so hard to hold onto theta. but the truth? theta was going to leave in every timeline.
âmy spine split from carrying us up the hillâ again, koschei just wanted theta. that was all. they tried so hard to hold onto him, but he didnt even see it. maybe he did. it didnt matter.
âi stopped trying to make him laughâ they used to be so close. one day it just wasnt worth it anymore. he couldnt pine after a ghost.
âthinkin, how much sad did you think i hadâ koschei was always there for theta. did theta even see it?
âso long, londonâ not leaving london, but gallifrey. afterall, koschei couldnt sit and wait around for theta to come back forever, could he? he had to move on. move on without theta.
âyouâll find someoneâ because theta did. again and again. companion after companion.
âi didnt opt in to be your odd man outâ theta has loved so many, but apparently he could never bring themself to love koschei.
âi left all i knewâ because he did. koschei left all he knew on gallifrey, and went to search for a purpose.
âyou left me at the house by the heathâ why did you have to go theta? didnt u understand koschei was going to love you forever? she did. they still do. it wasnât enough.
âi stopped CPR, after all its no useâ theres no use trying to be good when everyone has always treated u like what u r, a monster.
âand im pissed off you let me give you all that youth for freeâ they were just kids. koschei wasted her teen years loving someone that was always going to leave.
âtwo graves, one gunâ in the end, its always theta pointing a gun at koschei, and koschei welcomes Death.
âand you say i abandoned the ship, but i was going down with itâ theta was always so mad at koschei, but koschei would have sacrificed everything for theta. and didnt she?
âmy white knuckle dying gripâ koschei was always meant to die by the doctorâs hands. and he will continue to every time.
âholding tight to your quiet resentmentâ maybe it isnt so quiet. but its there.
âmy friends said it wasnt right to be scared, every day of a love affairâ this could mean multiple things. maybe koschei talked to the deca about theta?
âevery breath feels like rarest air, when youâre not sure if he wants to be thereâ koschei never knew that theta loved him. she knew. of course she did. it didnt matter.
âjust how long did you think iâd go? before iâd self implodeâ how long would koschei have waited for theta? not forever. he was always going to break eventually.
âyou swore that you loved me, but where were the cluesâ again, koschei was begging to be noticed. theta didnt even see them.
âi died on the altar waiting for the proofâ even now, koschei is just trying to get theta to look at him. he dies every time.
âyou sacrificed us to the gods of your bluest daysâ about how theta left (in the divided loyalties flashbacks) and went and found the toy maker. he was a god.
âand im just getting color back into my faceâ will koschei ever be over theta? no. i dont think so.
âim just mad as hell cause i loved this placeâ gallifrey, but more, theta.
âhad a good run, a moment of warm sunâ they were happy for a bit, so was it all worth it? was all the pain and suffering and death worth a few of thetaâs smiles? theta will look at anyone but koschei. why?

đ â canon-can-fight-me
this is my first time writing a good chunk of olive's story down so forgive me if its jumbled <3 im about to go ham
olive lives in ~1970 america and graduated with a major in botany and a minor in culinary arts. prior to her travels in the tardis, she lived in a little vw bus with a kitten named celeste! she doesn't have a very good relationship with her family as she didnt live up to their expectations, which is why she travels so often!
she met the doctor after a protest went very wrong. she'd been on her old college campus (just four months after graduating) and had joined friends in a protest against the war- expecting to just peacefully sit around and talk as others gave speeches. but, like other protests at the time, things went wrong very quickly and olive soon found herself in a field alone, with a horrible pain in her shoulder. this was when some goofy looking man came up to her and began asking some very odd questions. "what year is it? where are we?" had olive not been too shocked to move, she probably wouldve looked at him like he was... well, an alien.
despite her usual fear of men, this stranger seemed very different. whether it was the way he spoke, how he moved around, or by the way he dressed, something about him allowed her to calm down and she allowed him to patch up the wound in her shoulder. she'd even showed him her lil vw bus once she felt better and the doctor got to meet lil celeste! watching the kitten play with his scarf is what helped olive finally conclude that this guy probably wasn't going to kill her and she used this opportunity to more formally introduce herself to him.
as they spoke, the doctor began to pepper in little details about not being a human, travelling through time, and his ship- the tardis! but, since it was the seventies, olive wasnt entirely sure if he was just pulling her leg or if he was high off of something. nevertheless, she wanted to be polite to the man who had just rescued her and followed him to the little police box. that was when she realized that, damn, this guy *is* an alien!
from there, they began to travel about- olive eventually meeting sarah jane, harry, and the brigadier during their adventures. though she preferred to travel through the decades on earth, olive often found that her knowledge of plants came in handy on alien planets! whether it was to identify something useful or harmful, she was always so intrigued to learn more about the universe. despite this though, her favorite thing to learn about was always the doctor!
she related very closely to his story of leaving all the stuffy timelords behind on gallifrey to explore the universe. after all, she'd left her parent's home to never return as they hated her love for music, parties, drugs, etc. they also wanted her to be an accountant, which olive thought sounded awful!!
later into their journey, they found themselves wandering about ancient rome together. the doctor was pointing out landmarks, describing the colosseum, and the different buildings dedicated to the gods. eventually, though, a priest approached them, brought them to the temple of venus, and excitedly gave them a bottle of wine! the doctor eventually figured that the man saw olive in her flower crown and flowy robes and had wrongfully assumed she was in wedding attire- but neither of them would say no to free wine!! u could say it was either the wrong or right day to wear orange depending on how u look at it.
after beginning to help themselves to the wine, olive quickly discovered that 1.) the romans made some strong wine and 2.) alcohol didn't have much of an effect on timelords! so, after getting a bit of bread and olive oil to dip it in, they returned to the tardis to snack. long story short, olive the lightweight ended up announcing how cute she thought the doctor was before prompting him to close his eyes so that she could kiss him. by then, the doctor was like "haha ok maybe u should go to bed ur drunk" but olive didnt want to- she wanted to stay up with her favorite timelord and compliment him more!! he eventually got her to sleep though- worried that she was just speaking drunken nonsense. olive, however, had been entirely honest that night and woke up a horrible, blushing mess. much to the doctor's delight, though, she bashfully admitted that everything she said was true and, if it was okay, she'd very much like to kiss him again.
long after their relationship began, closer to the end of his regeneration, olive was thinking about how leela married a timelord on gallifrey and was like, damn. i want that. and so she got that!! it was a little wedding bc olive is a bit intimidated by the timelords, but she got to see leela and romana again and was happy she got her cute timelord husband!
shortly after that, olive decided to stop traveling the universe, but she didn't want to return to the seventies! there was far too many serial killers and so much war. so, with the doctors help, she decided to hop a bit forward in time and settled on ~2014. olive then upgraded to an rv, planted her own garden, and runs a little bakery somewhere in the countryside of maine! she still has occasional adventures with the doctor, though, and he visits her as often as he can! sure, he may be booked for two centuries, but that's nothing compared to his lifespan. the time war does put a dent in their time together but <3 you know.
the only last thing i know is that she has some kind of sonic device that connects to his screwdriver in case of emergencies. i haven't decided what it is yet, but all i can think of is a lil key fob !!
#good god#thank u sm for letting me infodump hehe#weed mention#alcohol mention#drug mention#parent mention#d; youre a book thats not quite finished but ill watch you fill the page#olive; the only one for me is you

and heres my reasonings (SPOILERS for a lot of the show, ESPECIALLY 12) Its.....long Narrator/9 - ehhhh...this was just vibes The Hero/15 - Ok also a bit vibes cause we havent seen much of him yet but he seems like a good voice of reason, done some healing thanks to 14 and is ready to go in with an open mind The Skeptic/1 - I may be off here cause I've not seen much of 1 but at least early on he does seem to be a bit skeptical and cautious about thing, oh especially in The Daleks, I could go on but this is already gonna be long-
The Opportunist/14 - Just...Wild Blue Yonder, I don't know if i'm alone here but watching that episode i can see that being the opportunist, also in The Giggle, talking to the Toymaker about going off together, very compromisey
The Stubborn/10 - Do I need to explain?
The Contrarian/13 - Of all of the doctors (that ive watched a bunch) she seems more the type to go "AND THEN WE THROW IT OUT THE WINDOW AHA!" and later go "ahhh shit" (ok yea vibes again)
The Hunted/11 - The Strategic nature is ofc a constant across the doctors, but his performance in Time of Angels sells it to me, "There's always a way out" when cornered by the angels, whole episode was surviving
The Cold/Fugitive - Seems very cold and harsh to me, i mean just left Karvanista behind y'know, love her but she's cold
The Cheated/12 - OK HERE WE GO....
Throughout twelves entire run he's always got a constant of cheating, his life begins because 11 cheated the system with the help of the Time Lords and got more regenerations, this leaves him with a struggle of someone who waited for death but found themselves alive unexpectedly, leading him down a whole arc of wondering if hes a good man. Series 9 is where it really takes form though, Ashildr/Me, he remembers back to Pompeii and has a huge speech about how he saves people and even though he feels cheated by the universe for having her die despite saving the village, he doesnt care and makes her immortal, kind of out of spite "And if anyone happens to be listening, and you've got any kind of a problem with that, to hell with you!" (The Doctor, The Girl Who Died). He was cheated by the universe, so he cheats right back, and it perfectly leads onto the next example. Clara. Face The Raven, Clara dies (rip) by something kinda small, just a simple mistake, a lapse in judgment from Clara during her self destructive 'i wanna be like the doctor' rampage. He can't believe something so small would take away this person he deeply loves (they were in love yea im a 12/Clara shipper, sue me [although Twissy ontop]) He. Feels. Cheated. And if that wasnt enough, 12 finds out it was all a plot by the time lords to get information out of him (not clara dying specifically but if they hadnt done this, she would be alive), so how does he respond? SPENDS 4.5 BILLION YEARS PUNCHING A WALL, just so he doesnt give the people who took Clara away ANYTHING, he cheats his way out of the system, rocks up at their doorstep and becomes President of Gallifrey in record time, all to 'fix' their mistake and try to bring her back, but cheating doesnt always win, Clara can't stay alive after being extracted, and so they have to play a game of chance to see who will forget the other, and he loses...
Cut to series 10 now wooohoo (12 is my fav can yall tell-) Theres a few things throughout, like the monks and his eyesight but nothing too concrete for me to write about until, World Enough and Time, The Doctor Falls, and Twice Upon a Time.
WOAT/TDF: Also not a huuuge amount, but like, cheated by time itself and missing Bill by a tiny amount of time "Ten years you spent up there, chatting. You missed her by two hours" (The Master, The Doctor Falls), and then the ending with wanting Missy to stand with him, his friend (and lover......O.o????) who he'd been slowly teaching to be better, and she says no, seemingly recorrected by her past self (yea shes lying to get Simm out of the way but the doctor doesnt know that, nor does he get to know!!!!) End the battle, dead, thinking Missy left him. Cheated.
And then end of TDF and Twice Upon a Time: He's ready to give in, after over 2000 years (not counting the confession dial) this run has taken in out of him, it takes his old self being ready to face regeneration head on, the returning of his memories of Clara, a heart to heart with Bill and Nardole, and the TARDIS talking him down, before he considers regenerating again. This man was born from cheating, and constantly was met by it throughout his time, after all he went through finally allowing himself to move on and stay alive, letting go of the past, Doctor I let you go...
The Princess/River - COME ON!! Not even the fact that shes the love interest in some runs, but also just how intertwined the doctor and river are, and how River is moulded to be different people and do things she doesnt want to do by Madame Kovarian, manipulative, deceptive, loving, scared, smart, they are the same person i stg.
Ok...that was a lot, if anyone actually read this far, thank you! get help <3 and im curious if anyone has any other thoughts about who fits who.
Slay The Princess/Doctor Who
OK- So here me out, i had an idea and thought "hmm, wonder if i can match some of the doctors to the character and voices in slay the princess and i think i popped off (not all doctors are here, nor are all the voices cause some just dont fit) let me know what yall think, and what youd change!
#doctor who#slay the princess#river song#9th doctor#10th doctor#11th doctor#1st doctor#14th doctor#15th doctor#13th doctor#fugitive doctor#12th doctor#voice of the cheated

hi. on your post where you may or may not have ended on 'moffat is either your angel or your devil' did you have maybe an elaboration on that somewhere that i could possibly hear about. i'm very much a capaldi era stan and i've never tried to defend the matt smith era even though it had delightful moments sometimes so i wonder where that puts me. i'd love to hear your perspective on moffat as a person with your political perspective. -nicole
hi ok sorry i took so long to respond to this but i dont think you know how LOADED this question is for me but i am so happy to elaborate on that for you. first a few grains of salt to flavor your understanding of the whole situation: a. im unfairly biased against moffat bc im a davies stan and a tennant stan; b. i still very much enjoy and appreciate moffat era who for many reasons; and c. i hate moffat on a personal level far more than i could ever hate his work.
the thing is that its all always gonna be a bit mixed up bc i have to say a bunch of seemingly contradictory things in a row. for instance, a few moffat episodes are some of my absolute favorites of the rtd era, AND the show went way downhill when moffat took over, AND the really good episodes he wrote during the rtd era contained the seeds of his destruction.
like i made that post about the empty child/the doctor dances and it holds true for blink and thats about it bc the girl in the fireplace and silence in the library/forest of the dead are good but not nearly on the same level, and despite the fact that i like them at least nominally, they are also great examples of everything i hate about moffat and how he approached dw as a whole.
basically. doctor who is about people. there are many things about moffats tenure as showrunner that i think are a step up from rtd era who! actual gay people, for one! but i think that can likely be attributed mostly to an evolving Society as opposed to something inherent to him and his work, seeing as rtd is literally gay, and the existence of queer characters in moffats work doesnt mean the existence of good queer characters (ill give him bill but thats it!)
i have a few Primary Grievances with moffat and how he ran dw. all of them are things that got better with capaldi, but didnt go away. they are as follows:
moffat projects his own god complex onto the doctor
rtd era who had a doctor with a god complex. you cant ever be the doctor and not have a god complex. the problem with moffats era specifically is that the god complex was constant and unrepentant and was seen as a fundamental personality trait of the doctor rather than a demon he has to fight. he has the Momence where you feel bad for him, the Momence where he shows his humility or whatever and youre reminded that he doesnt want to be the lonely god, but those are just. moments. in a story where the doctor thinks hes the main character. rtd era doctor was aware that he wasnt the main character. he had to be an authority sometimes and he had to be the loner and he had to be sad about it, but he ultimately understood that he was expendable in a narrative sense.
this is how you get lines like âwere the thin fat gay married anglican marines, why would we need names as well?â from the same show that gave you the gut punch moment at the end of midnight when they realize that nobody asked the hostess for her name. and on the one hand, thats a small sticking point, but on the other hand, its just one small example of the simple disregard that moffat has for humanity.
incidentally, this is a huge part of why sherlock sucked so bad: moffats main characters are special bc theyre so much bigger and better than all the normal people, and thats his downfall as a showrunner. he thinks that his audience wants fucking sheldon cooper when what they want is people.
like, ok. think of how many fantastic rtd era eps are based in the scenario âwhat if the doctor wasnt there? what if he was just out of commission for a bit?â and how those eps are the heart of the show!! bc theyre about people being people!! the thing is that all of the rtd era companions would have died for the doctor but he understood and the story understood that it wasnt about him.
this is like. nine sending rose home to save her life and sacrifice his own vs clara literally metaphysically entwining her existence w the doctor. ten also sending rose with her family to save her life vs river being raised from infancy to be obsessed w the doctor and then falling in love w him. martha leaving bc she values herself enough to make that decision vs amy being treated like a piece of meat.
and this is simultaneously a great callback to when i said that moffats episodes during the rtd era sometimes had the same problems as his show running (bc girl in the fireplace reeks of this), and a great segue into the next grievance.
moffat hates women
he hates women so fucking much. g-d, does steven moffat ever hate women. holy shit, he hates women. especially normal human women who prioritize their normal human lives on an equal or higher level than the doctor. moffat hated rose bc she wasnt special by his standards. the empty child/the doctor dances is the nicest he ever treated her, and she really didnt do much in those eps beyond a fuck ton of flirting.
girl in the fireplace is another shining example of this. youve got rose (who once again has another man to keep her busy, bc moffat doesnt think shes good enough for the doctor) sidelined for no reason only to be saved by the doctor at the last second or whatever. and then youve got reinette, who is pretty and powerful and special!
its just. moffat thinks that the doctor is as shallow and selfish as he is. thats why he thinks the doctor would stay in one place with reinette and not with rose. bc moffat is shallow and sees himself in the doctor and doesnt think he should have to settle for someone boring and normal.
not to mention rose met the doctor as an adult and chose to stay with him whereas reinette is. hm. introduced to the doctor as a child and grows up obsessed with him.
does that sound familiar? it should! bc it is also true of amy and river. and all of them are treated as viable romantic pairings. bc the only women who deserve the doctor are the ones whose entire existence revolves around him. which includes clara as well.
genuinely i think that at least on some level, not even necessarily consciously, that bill was a lesbian in part bc capaldi was too old to appeal to mainstream shippers. like twelve/clara is still a thing but not as universally appealing as eleven/clara but i am just spitballing. but i think they weighed the pros and cons of appealing to the woke crowd over the het shippers and found that gay companion was more profitable. anyway the point is to segue into the next point, which is that moffat hates permanent consequences.
moffat hates permanent consequences
steven moffat does not know how to kill a character. honestly it feels like hes doing it on purpose after a certain point, like he knows he has this habit and hes trying to riff on it to meme his own shit, but it doesnt work. it isnt funny and it isnt harmless, its bad writing.
the end of the doctor dances is so poignant and so meaningful and so fucking good bc its just this once! everybody lives, just this once! and then he does p much the same thing in forest of the dead - this one i could forgive, bc i do think that preserving those peoples consciousnesses did something for the doctor as a character, it wasnt completely meaningless. but everything after that kinda was.
rory died so many times its like. get a hobby lol. amy died at least once iirc but it was all a dream or something. clara died and was erased from the doctors memory. river was in prison and also died. bill? died. all of them sugarcoated or undone or ignored by the narrative to the point of having effectively no impact on the story. the point of a major character death is that its supposed to have a point. and you could argue that a piece of art could be making a point with a pointless death, ie. to put perspective on it and remind you that bad shit just happens, but with moffat the underlying message is always âi can do whatever i want, nothing is permanent or has lasting impact ever.â
basically, with moffat, tragedy exists to be undone. and this was a really brilliant, really wonderful thing in the doctor dances specifically bc it was the doctor clearly having seen his fair share of tragedy that couldnt be helped, now looking on his One Win with pride and delight bc he doesnt get wins like this! and then moffat proceeded to give him the same win over and over and over and over. nobody is ever dead. nobody is ever unable to be saved. and if they are, really truly dead and/or gone, then thats okay bc moffat has decided that [insert mitigating factor here]*
*the mitigating factor is usually some sort of computerized database of souls.
i can hear the moffat stans falling over themselves to remind me that amy and rory definitely died, and they did - after a long and happy life together, they died of old age. i dont consider that a character death any more than any other character choosing to permanently leave the tardis.
and its not just character deaths either, its like, everything. the destruction of gallifrey? never mind lol! character development? scrapped! the same episode four times? lets give it a fifth try and hope nobody notices. bc he doesnt know how to not make the doctor either an omnipotent savior or a self-pitying failure.
it is in nature of doctor who, i believe, for the doctor to win most of the time. like, it wouldnt be a very good show if he didnt win most of the time. but it also wouldnt be a very good show if he won all of the time. my point is that moffats doctor wins too often, and when he doesnt win, it feels empty and hollow rather than genuinely humbling, and you know hes not gonna grow from it pretty much at all.
so like. again, i like all of doctor who i enjoy all of it very much. i just think that steven moffat is a bad show runner and a decent writer at times. and it is frustrating. and im not here to convince or convert anyone im just living my truth. thank you for listening.
#sorry if this is repetitive or makes no sense or if i got some details of the show wrong#i simply couldnt be bothered to put too much effort into this post#lest it become a research paper and take me several weeks to answer#anyway thats all my opinions#dw#ok to rb

Excuse me for the rant but...
Saw this post about plotholes and I can't help but apply it to GITF.
First -- IT WASNT EVN IN TENS FUCKING CHARACTER?!?!?!
It did not apply with his morals or his bloody emotions in anyway to jump through a BLOODY FUCKING TIME WINDOW WITH NO WAY BACK!!!
This man sent Rose back when faced with a horde of Daleks, and yet is comfortable leaving her abandoned on a metal ship, with no way to reach her, no guarantee of her safety, no way that he has immediate knowledge of her survival, WHEN NOT EVEN TWENTY MINUTES AGI SHE WAS ABOUT TO BE CHOPPED INTO FUCKING BITS BY METAL DRIOIDS?!?!?!
You leave the woman who you died for, her best friend whose a new, inexperienced companion and your blimmin' TARDIS, your one constant in all 9 fucking lives, for a lady who you snogged for less than a minute!!!!
And the FACT of the matter is, SHE'S LITERALLY SOMETHING YOU TRIED TO RUN AWAY FROM GALLIFREY FOR!!!
Did you not run away to escape the confines and rules and regulations that Gallifrey imposed? Did you not ignore their every call, defy their every want they needed from you?
And yet you run into her arms, like a puppy to his mistress, for a woman who barely knows of your tumultuous past. When Rose -- she held your hand when you both thought you were going to die in a basement in Cardiff. She told you "Do it." when you told her all that was stopping you from saving the word was her safety. She was brave enough, loved you enough, to say "I wouldn't have missed it for world." when she faced imminent death at the stalk of a Dalek. She watched her planet burn and yet still was compassionate enough, was brave and believing enough, to get chips with you.
She looked after you whilst you recovered, she grieved the man you where and loved the one you became in equal measure. She was confronted with your past: the Time War, the companions other than her, and was able to accept it; she was able to love you enough to make peace with the parts of your past that you could not.
She was loved you enough TO ABSORB THE BLEEDIN' TIME VORTEX AND YET A FRENCH LADY WHO SEDUCES THE KING IN A BLOODY WIG TURNS YOU ON??!!??!
I can't hope to understand you, and I really don't know why the script wasn't burned to pieces in the first place.
What sense came out of it? What absolute idiocy propelled fucking M*ffat to think this was what people wanted?
Did people want a historical woman worthy of praise reduced to an romance-oriented cardboard cut out when she was a key political player in the French Court? Or perhaps they desired the Doctor more clueless, oblivious -- more deliberately, intentionally hurtful?
Or did M*ffat decide, instead, that an alien who had lived centuries surrounded by influence of humans would forget every lesson taught by those he cherished, would forget every compulsion that made him kinder, braver, more open to acceptance and love by countless companions and one woman who helped him overcome the trauma from the Time War for another woman who had one look into his head, who he kissed once, who didn't even know a lick about the loss and the pain and the horrors?
Who didn't know about a single thing beyond the fact that he was lonely, that he had been there since her childhood (we'll touch on that another day) and beyond the fact that he was looking for something after her?
What sense, what morality COMPELLED HIM TO BECOME AN ABSOLOUTE CAD, M*FFAT!??!?!?
I would like to end by saying, FUCK GITF!TEN'S CHARCTERIZATION!
#i am oveeflowing and this was the safest fucking outlet#anyway#*deep breath*: inhale#exhale --#tenth doctor#10#GITF#Girl In The Fireplace#Rose Tyler#Nine#9#Ten#The Doctor#is an absoloute arse#write this yesterday night#and it was journey#correction: Ten is an arse#Nine is a joy#on another note: I got a new pair of earings!!#personal#rant#doctor who

Okay the fact that the episode with the TARDIS being pulled out into a human body was like That when there's so much potential that wasnt just haha shes Into The Doctor and it was wasted
Hm, I see where youâre coming from, but I respectfully disagree because I actually really love that episode! I think they explore a lot of really interesting stuff relating to TARDISes - like how they perceive time and the way they view concepts? Like, the whole thing with the telepathic password (delight, crimson, eleven and petrichor, I think?) where you have to imagine the CONCEPT of those words - and I think there was some meta somewhere about how those words were actually supposed to represent Amy, Rory, the Doctor and River, because they were important in that point in time to the TARDIS, which I think is a really neat idea. This comes in to how the TARDIS talks about stuff too - how she calls the Doctor âher thiefâ and says that she wanted to run away as much as the Doctor did. And then the way that the TARDIS answers Roryâs question about the definition of petrichor before he asked it? The way the first thing she says is âgoodbyeâ and the last thing is âhelloâ? I think thatâs so cool, the whole non-linear nature of it. AND THEN LIKE, one of my favourite lines!! âI might not have taken you where you wanted to go, but I always took you where you needed to go!â We heard that from the TARDIS herself, and I just....love that SO much, since itâs such a linchpin in the whole show, and so to hear it said was awesome.Â
And yeah, I have a couple of gripes with the episode (which are similar gripes I have with the whole of Moffatâs era r.e. the number of innuendos) but like, overall I love it a whole lot. Personally, I donât think it was wasted, and I donât think the main take away of the episode was just that the TARDIS is into the Doctor. In fact, I didnât think that was the take away at all - for me, I think itâs about these two beings who have only had each other for so, so long - theyâre each otherâs constants, their anchor points, and even when Gallifrey and all the other Time Lords (and all the other TARDISes!) have been lost, they still...have each other, and thatâs what they cling to. Which is especially relevant in an episode that starts off with the Doctor thinking heâs found the Corsair and other Time Lords who might have survived the War.Â
Thereâs definitely a bunch of other stuff that they could have looked at which would have been neat, but I really love the episode that we got and thereâs a LOT of cool stuff there! Itâs definitely one that heavily influenced how I write the TARDIS in my fics.
Also, the two of them bickering like an old married couple made my doctor/TARDIS heart sing

i think this is part of how she'd struggle with meeting 14. i mean theres a lot of like reasonable grievances i think, theres a lot of ways the doctor was unfair to her that i think they need to talk about and never did bc of circumstances and those circumstances change with 14 so now they must talk.
but beyond that, i think she'd feel sort of...unarmed, and lost. like she knows her doctor like no one else, but this doctor, that everyone else, all these companions, seem to know, she doesnt know. her doctor was always running from that. her doctor was trying to be everything that the doctor before wasnt. or was trying not to be everything he was.
she failed at that of course in many ways, but at the same time that means that all that history, the weight of the title, the resonance of the title throughout the unvierse, yaz hasnt seen that. theres another absence there. the doctor tried to excise something from themself and yaz was presented with whats built around that hole. and yaz knew that person, so well. yaz knew this,,, inverted doctor. this doctor who turned her into a doctor more than she was one herself. yaz knew how she thought and how she felt and reconstructed history that was left out by the hole it left. yaz sees gallifrey as ruins, yaz learns what species the doctor is when theyre...not anymore.
but 14. 14 is the gaps. 14 is all the history. old face, old friends. yaz now sees what her doctor was running from, because hes stopped. but if hes stopped, and her doctor was defined by that flight, that means her doctor is gone. shes here, in 14, every time he mentions anything they did together it proves that her doctor is still here, those times didnt disappear, they still exist in the memories. but the essence of her doctor doesnt exist anymore, precisely because the essence of this doctor is the opposite. it's a response to what her doctor was (as regenerations always are), but i think it would be so hard to deal with for her.
and it wouldnt be, like, jealousy, or shallowness. i think she'd struggle with meeting other companions, but not because of like not being the first or the last, it wouldnt be about that. i think it would be that she doesnt know where she stands anymore. and even more she doesnt know who she is anymore. because she and the doctor started defining themselves in conversation, right? they couldnt speak but their actions were like a call and response. yaz copied the doctor, the doctor copied her. yaz would express love in a cloaked diagonal way ("we were worried about you!") and the doctor would use her words to get that same sentiment across no less cloaked and diagonal ("we're all worried!")
and if the doctor has become the exact opposite of that, if the doctor has turned back into what her doctor was a photonegative of, then what the fuck is left of yaz? she evaporates. i think a lot of her sense of self evaporates in face of 14, i think it'd be really destabilising. she is also a master mirror after all. she knows who she is with her doctor in their tardis. with this doctor in a house? what is she? where is the space for her here?
do you ever think about how yaz had every episode with her doctor. like she was there from the first half hour to the last half hour. she was there basically from regeneration to regeneration. all of 13s life, yaz is there, yaz is in her thoughts, yaz is in her consideration, yaz is right beside her, yaz is right behind her, The Entire Time
cant have a universe without yaz
#literally wrote all this in fic form already so idk what im talking abt but whatevs#whatevs#saturday yaz thoughts#i love her i love her i love her#yaz

Theory time: alternate universe
So i used to think that ruth!Doctor was the one from a parallel universe, but now im starting to think, it might be the other way around.
Maybe our doctor got flug into a parallel universe at some point. Maybe even during the woman who fell to earth. Heres why
1) The master: we've been talking about this since he came back, which regeneration is he? The whole gallifrey plotline makes it seem like hes the one who came after missy, which would nullify her entire character development during s10. (Which is why none of us wanna accept that). His whole character doesnt seem to fit in the masters narrative.
2) Fam & general public: because of everything we've seen in s1 - 10, the public should be aware of the existance of aliens. Yes sometimes the whole story deleted itself from existance, but in s5 the doctor thinks its weird that amy doesnt know the cybermen, because she should. Everyone should. But not only the fam dont know what a cyberman is (or believe in aliens in the beginning), this seems to be the case for the entire world population.
3) UNIT & Torchwood: how could the government possibly discontinue unit? It was their last line of defense if the doctor wasnt there. But if this is parallel universe in which aliens, for once, dont actually give a fuck about the earth, why would they have UNIT or torchwood? There'd simply be no need for it.
4) Ruth: Of course, the biggest point. We know neither ruth, nor the doctor remember being the other. So they sort of cant be the same doctor right? This is what made me think that ruth!Doctor might be from a parallel universe, but if you watch the episode, its not Ruth that doesnt fit into thw picture, its our Doctor. She is the one out of place, Gat had no idea she existed. More about that:
5) Gat: Now Gat is interesting, because she doesnt know of Gallifrey's destruction. Meaning either shes from a time even before the time war, or shes from a Gallifrey that was never destroyed. Her whole attitude and the way she spoke about it, made it seem like Gallifrey was a lot more hostile and militaristic than what it was made out to be earlier in the series (idk about classic who tho). Maybe she could be from a Gallifrey that won the time war? Or that war didnt even happen for her at all?
6) The cybermen: Jack said the cyberman were a âfallen empireâ and that there had been an alliance that defeated them, by sending something back through time. As far as we know, the cybermen have never been properly defeated? Thats their whole deal, they cant be get rid of. So how could they be a fallen empire?
7) The Doctor: âTime is swirling around meâ. Something is brewing at the horizon, and its coming for the Doctor. If she is actually stuck in another universe, maybe its the signs that shes not meant to be there.
I keep thinking about this, and the only thing that falls short in this theory is when this jump into another universe happened, and also why the fuck the doctor hasnt noticed it yet. It must've been in the woman who fell to earth or even prior to that, as the companions are a part of this problem, not knowing about aliens. Not sure where all of this is going to lead.
Ive got some rewatching to do.

The Timeless Children
Season 12 finale here we go.
âTake my hand.â And again the Doctor leaves her companions to go after the Master. At least this time she kinda chose to go with him. Graham... I donât like the idea of you guys wearing Cybermen armor.... Master, what exactly is your plan here? Bringing the Cybermen? Graham.... awwww. That was so sweet. Will one of them die? If Graham or Yaz end up converted I will kill someone. âThey are mineâ nooo shut up Lone Cyberman. âYou really think Iâm gonna believe anything that comes out of your mouth.â Yes. I will believe him. I trust him to this extent. That was so weird to see a Cyberman move that naturally when Yaz turned to make sure he was gone... So smoothly instead of robotically. Indigenous race... weâre getting to human colonists.... right?... Adopted like Brandon... SHE FELL OFF A CLIFF TOO. WEâVE NEVER SEEN A CHILD REGENERATE BEFORE. THATâS SO SAD. Oh god, if they end up shooting Yaz or Graham because theyâre in Cyberman suits... The season started with him playing basketball... Ryan donât you die. Hoarder? Of what?! Of people?????? Several regenerations... so was she killing the child over and over again!? Nearly there?? Nearly?????? Thereâs MORE?
Ok. So the Doctor is the Timeless Child... Ok... Ok. I need the episode to keep going so we can get to really get what this all means.
Also, if this is what the Master found out that caused him to destroy Gallifrey, then awww maybe he loves the Doctor and is mad about what they did to her.
Ok good, they didnât get shot while dressed as Cybermen. âOh. Okay.â OKAY. So thatâs the Lone Cyberman out of the way. I like that the Lone Cyberman clinked when the Master picked him up. âand all this would be over. I wouldâve been ok with that.â No Master. No. Donât have a death wish PLEASE. It canât be that bad. âI should have said âSomeone should have cut you down to sizeâ and THEN zapped him.â Awww. Ok Master has the Cyberium. Thatâll be fun. Back to commercial. But I need to know if my girl the Doctor is ok after that revelation! Tell me sheâs ok!
I hate the stupid previews that BBC America plays. I thought the show as back. Youâd think after years Iâd stop falling for it, but we got through half the episode before the first preview.
âI cannot bear that.â Master, shut up. Ok, so it wasnât because he loved the Doctor. I knew it wouldnât be, but a girl can dream. He destroyed Gallifrey because of the insult of having part of the Doctor in him. OH SHE REALLY PUSHED HIM. I blinked and I missed it and then he was on the ground. Brandon?? Itâs all erased... What the hell is the Division? OOOOOOOHHHHH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. CYBERMEN TIME LORDS. THIS IS WORSE THAN THE DALEK SILENCE. OH BUT I DO LOVE THE DESIGN. He blew a kiss. Kisses. Just like she sent O.
I mean. The Master back in the 1996 movie wanted to know the Doctorâs secrets, and found he was half-human. Maybe that was just a sort of fake-out that was planted to keep others from discovering that sheâs the Timeless Child.
OH god I donât want the fam to get killed on Gallifrey... Yaz no why did you have to go first? Stop being reckless. âThis is Gallifrey.â She said the thing. RUTHHHHHHH. My girl. Something âHeâ said, but the âHeâ is not the Master? Jack? âOh! Iâm talking to myself again!â I love the Doctor. Awwww all those flashbacks. Oh so âheâ was the Lone Cyberman. Ugh. I was hoping for my baby Jack. Is there a TARDIS they can steal to get everyone off the planet please?? Also, oh god the Gallifreyans will be super dead this time around. Which will suck. Oh god the Master wants them to do it... itâs a trap... A TARDIS TO STEAL! YAY! Doctor, stop having a death wish. You always have a death wish. Stop it. Neither you nor the Master are allowed to have death wishes. Yaz donât you dare volunteer to do it instead... I can see it in your eyes. OOOH Ryan. âI am so much more than you.â Why does that give me deja vu? âYouâll become Death.â Doctor of Death. Wasnât that a thing before? Oh, Ko Sharmus. Ok at least itâs not Yaz. So he sent the Cyberium! And look at all the people who thought it was Jack or Ruth or something. Overthinking it. Run, Doctor. Just like you tell everyone else to. TARDISes are organic too though... so are they all destroyed? And is the Master dead for good now? I hope not. I love the Master. She ran away from Gallifrey and never stopped. Again.
Ok wait. The title is Timeless Children. Plural. Weâre still only talking about the singular Child. Oh god no more Doctor Who until Christmas.
Ha itâs a house! Thatâs so cute! The Chameleon Circuitâs working! Will they live in their TARDIS? I mean, you got a house right there. You can probably ask it to change the inside to look like a house too. Will the Doctor still just run away and not reunite with her Fam? Just leave them behind? âGood Chameleon Circuitâ Wow two working TARDISes. AWWWW LOOK AT OUR TARDIS. I love her. âDonât get jealous.â Sweet. AGAIN? THE JUDOON!?!?!?
Revolution of the Daleks???
Well that was a cliffhanger. Great.
I havenât rewatched Matt Smithâs era in a while, is that supposed to be Riverâs prison?
Anyway. I think Iâm satisfied. I wish the Master got out of that in the end, if only because I love the Master. He needed to be stopped of course. But still. Give me more Master. Especially Dhawan!Master.
Itâs the Master. Theyâll be back eventually. Hopefully still Dhawan.
Ruth Doctor. My girl. Glad to see her come back. Poor Doctor, she has so much to deal with now... It does bring up a bunch of questions. Like how she got more regenerations in the Time of the Doctor... I assume sheâs able to just regenerate forever... so why would Gallifrey make a big show of giving her 12 more... I guess because they were like âHey so, if we donât come down there and look like weâre listening to Clara and helping the Doctor, heâs gonna find out about his past, so letâs just send a bit of regeneration energy at him to make this specific regeneration extra big and convince him he was given 12 more.... then we can just rinse and repeat again later.â
Also, the Doctor was a black girl first. If only it was still Black History Month. Oh well.
So Ruthâs version of the Doctor reached her 12 regenerations at some point, had her memory erased... and reverted back to a child... but why did they not do that to Eleven? Did they just want to see what the Doctor would do if they knew they were living longer than initially intended this time around? How many cycles have there been? I hope Ruthâs set of 12 was the first one but I doubt it...
At least the Valeyard, the Watcher, and the Curator make a lot more sense now. They can fall just about anywhere now and not mess with the 12 regenerations thing since that does not matter at all anymore for the Doctor.
And I canât remember if we all freaked out about this back then, but Iâve been thinking about this recently, did we all freak out when we saw the Curator because of the number of regenerations? Because, by the time we watched the 50th Anniversary we were all freaking out and counting regenerations and wondering if the Meta-Crisis counted towards that number, and then wondering if Capaldi is the last Doctor or if it ends up that Smith is actually #13 then how does Capaldi happen? We were wondering all of that, so what did we make of the Curator? I honestly canât remember. I feel like for the entire month after the 50th we were all just so blinded from the appearance of Tom Baker to wonder where the Curator falls in the 12 regenerations thing. And then by the time we started actually wondering where he fits in, Christmas happened and Eleven got more regenerations and we were like âOh ok well then I guess the Curatorâs at the end of those regenerations.â
But I LIKE the idea that the Curator is even further along than we thought, and that now that Gallifrey is truly gone (which sucks) and canât enforce the rules of sets of 12 regenerations, the Doctor is just going to keep going on and on forever and ever and eventually starts just picking faces again.
Also, how old is the Doctor? We thought the 4 billion years in the confession dial was bad, but like, maybe it wasnt?
And what about that theory that all the Gallifreyans are the Doctor just at different points in their life, going back in time but living all the lives simultaneously... nah thatâs too much.
Anyway. I was sure that this season would lead to us finding out that humans are the ancestors of Gallifreyans, still kinda hoping for that. Iâm really clinging to this human thing. First I thought the Doctor was the Hybrid because heâs half human, now I thought weâd get the revelation that Time Lords evolved from humans.
Wait. Thereâs still one BIG question. If the Doctor isnât from Gallifrey, then WHAT THE HELL IS SHE!??!?!

{An Original Character Introduction}
The dying Timelady -Part One
The dying Timelady named Catherin White, who got her earthly name from her Grandmother, who was fascinated from the small Planet, is a Timelady from the Planet Gallifrey.
Her Grandmother always told her from Earth as Goodnight stories, what keep stucked in her Head. This is when Catherin interested of this Planet started and why she wanted to travel to it one day.
Catherin knows the Doctor since childhood, but their wasnt very close at the start. They started to speak more, when both got to the Academy, where they meet the Master. She becomes very good friends with the Master. While on the Academy, Catherin always dreamed about Earth and told her two friends about it every single day. Maybe thats why the Doctor had fled with his granddaughter to Earth in the first Place?
Catherin has long blond hair, that sometimes shining a bit golden in the sunlight. Her green eyes remind people of a forest. Deep green eyes, where peace is living. She wears glasses and she cant really see without them. She is a friendly, bit pessimistic, kind and bubbly Person. She fights against a deep anger Issue, what was caused by her biggest Problem she has to face.
She only has one heart.
For a Timelady, its like when a Human was born with a heartfailure. And because Timelords have different body temperature and different immune system, her single heart and her body were too weak to stay intact for most of the time.
Every Timelord/lady has a different amount of regeneration energy. Some have more of it, other less. When Catherin get hurt really badly or her body became too weak to stay alive (high fever, heartattacks ect.) and kills itself, she start to regenerate. But other then the Doctor or the Master, her appearance stays the same, because she is even too weak to change. The amount of energy stays small, but it can happend that she regenerate multiple times in a very short time, because her body cant really rest after a regeneration. (Seeing how the Doctor acting after one of his regenerations.) For example: When the Doctor regenerate once, the amount of energy fits for the dying Timelady for three or four of her regenerations.
The dying Timelady has her own TARDIS, but she didnt really use it. For the most of the time, she travels with the Doctor. When she leaves one of the Incarnations of her beloved Husband, she simply jumps throught time and space, even without an vortexmanipulator. Why she can do that, isnt really explained. It could be the spare regeneration energy, that makes her jump to time and space. Others say that: âThe Univers gave her something in exchange for her everlasting painâ But the Truth will never be revealed.
Catherin loves the Doctor for a long time. They spend a lot of time together. When Catherin knew, he would marry someoneelse, she told him, how she feels about him. He accepted her feeling, but still married the women, who his parents picked for him.
After the marriage, Catherin never saw the Doctor again. The Years goes by and as Susan was born, he suddenly came to her and talked with her again. He told her, that she should care for Susan, because his Wife and his Daughter havent any time for her.
Catherin was happy and accepted. Susan was her light. The only connection to the Doctor she would ever has.
But then something terrible happend.
How and What really happend, will be a secret between Susan and Catherin. An Accident forced Catherin to regenerate for the first time and as the Doctor appeared to pick up Susan, he saw that Catherin changed from the old lady she was, to a younger women, but she looked the same again, when they went to the Academy. That was impossible for a Timelady.
This was the time, where Catherin told the Doctor, that she was sick. That she only has one Heart. That her body will kill her again and again and that the Pain will never really stop. That her appearce will never change. That she will stay the same until her life is over. After this encounter, the relationship of them has changed.
A simple Choice will define their Future.
Her Story has two Paths. One is the origin story and the other an âAll Humanâ Story.
The âAll Humanâ Story is a bit more friendly and hopeful Path.
After the Doctor (The Origin/First) decided to run away with Susan from gallifrey, they take Catherin with them. The Doctor shares his strong feelings with the dying Timelady and all three are trying to find a way to help Catherin out of her pain.
After an attack from the Daleks, Catherin is going to die for real and the Doctor didnt know what do to.
The Master appears and rescuit his old friend, putting Catherin in a coma. ( In this Path, he is more friendly and wants to help, but only because he is Catherins friend. He still see the Doctor as an Rival/Enemy)
Both Timelords thinking about a way to help her, when the Master got an Idea.
Timelords can turn into humans, their body can change completely and there memories getting erase.
As long the Master search for a way to help his friend, the Doctor will be living as a Human on Earth with Catherin together.
Eachtime, when Catherin is going to regenerate again, the Master will put her in a coma and the Doctor turns back into a timelord will all his memories. Until the Doctor regenerate again, he will continue travelling, meeting his companions and gain more experience.
Each Renegeration of the Doctor has their own Lovestory with the dying Timelady. A peaceful and beautiful life, with less tragic and less drama as his normal life has for him.
The Origin Path is bit more tragic, it has his similarity with the Original Series of Doctor Who.
The Doctor ran away with Susan, but left Catherin behind. He couldnt handle the information, what he just got from her. He couldnt handle anything right now.
There first encounter take place between the Aztecs and the Sensorites. Catherin finds the Doctor through one of her jumps and lands into the TARDIS. After confusion and happiness on sight of Susan, Catherin talks to the Doctor, trying to find out, why he left. She saw, that he start travelling with Humans and she realize, that he changed⌠in a good way.
Catherin stays for some time but decide to leave again. The Doctor told her, that he has feelings for her, but he just cant being together with her now. Time will tell.
She understands, kissed the Doctor Goodbye and her Story started. She will travel a lot throught the Doctors Timeline and meet all his other Incarnations and the Doctor will slowly falling in love with her more and more. She has an happy life with him.
But then the War happend. With no Explanations, the War Doctor blocked his Timeline, since the War had started, so she couldnt meet him or the other incarnations, who will exist after him.
Catherin tried to jump throught the barrier, but it wasnt possible for her.
Because of that tragic, she hides from the Doctor, living alone for over 100 of Years and wasnt ever seen again. Only the Master knows where he can find the dying Timelady. He finds out, that both have a special bond and they are infact Soulmates. The relationship between them didnt change much, and they have trouble to being together, because the Master still want destroy the Doctor.
But something is for sure: When Catherin should ever need help, he will be there, because she is important for him, like he is important for her.
After Gallifrey was saved and the Doctor regenerated to his 12th Incarnation, he realize, that Catherin didnt showed up for a long time. The 12th Doctor suddenly rememeber that this barriere still exist in her timeline, so she couldnt meet him after the War.
The Doctor took the dangerous path and broke the Barrier to meet his beloved lady again.
After both reunited, he decide, that both should marry and making a soulbond, so nothing in all Time and Space could ever rip them apart again.
So it was offical: The dying Timelady became the Doctors Wife.

Okay !!! So !!! So many things from my source donât make any sense scientifically, but Iâll go ahead and mention some of my favorites, some from canon and some not so much from canon.
One time, while with The Doctorâs eleventh incarnation me, him, amy, and rory ended up almost dying (in a dream world ? sorry its a lil wonky) from a cold star!! a star that was burning !! but was freezing ??? which literally makes zero sense, but ive learned not to question too much from source because,,, eh,,, things can be pretty weird
And then of course there was the time with Ten and Rose where we were on a planet that was literally Right Next to a black hole. but it wasnt being sucked in. there was this really amazing view of the thing from where we were.
and then some that im pretty sure are canon-divergent (im not sure actually ive not seen classic who or some of the later seasons of new who) would have to be this planet that the doctor took me to. im not sure on the name, but it was for my birthday. the first birthday i had after we had been reunited in Berlin, he took me to this planet that had two suns, like Gallifrey did. The sky made me feel so close to home. I was (and still am sometimes) always terribly homesick. and i just remember being entirely in awe of seeing a sky so similar to the one back home.
as well as, of course, seeing the untempered schism when i was young. its something i think about often.
I want to talk about space. Space travelers, what's your favorite thing about space travel? What's the weirdest thing you've seen out there in the nothingness in-between worlds?

electric and dragon for the pokemon selfship game? :0c with the doctor, ofc
hehe thank u!! <3
[Electric]: When did you realize that you were in love with your f/o? When did they realize that they were in love with you?
olive could tell the doctor was different the first time they met. it wasn't love yet, but something about the way he spoke and played with celeste made her perk up a bit..... she was usually extremely fearful of men!!! but once, after olive and the doctor spent a long time talking about alien plant life and how it behaves different from plant life on earth, sarah jane came up to her afterwards and was like "wow u guys talk a lot, huh! i think he might be playing favorites between the three of us! -hint hint-" and olives autistic ass went "oh, yeah i guess so!! hes just really nice and i like talking to him a lot!" then, after sarah walked away olive, stood there, trying to figure out what she meant until olive went........................ oh shit
it took the doctor longer to realize. it wasnt that he didnt like olive or anything, he's just really used to having so many companions around and them all being buddies!! hangin out and exploring!! not kissing!!! slowly, however, he starts to notice just how gentle olive is. she does her best to be open and understanding, doesn't immediately jump to violence like a lot of humans do, and she also loves listening to him infodump!! i mean, what more could u want in a woman?? the realization probably hit him just as he dropped off olive and sarah jane and spent his entire time on gallifrey like 'shitshitshitshitshit'
[Dragon]: Does your f/o have a kryptonite? Does your s/i know about it? What about vice versa?
i know i wrote these questions, but this one was interesting to think about!! there's a lot of things that can kill or harm a timelord- especially if you attack them before the regeneration cycle begins. certain poisons, drowning, and aspirin will also kill them. i think the funniest answer, however, would be the fact that time lords have a cluster of v sensitive nerves in their shoulder that, if you hit it, they can be dazed, stunned, or even faint. olive does in fact know about this, mostly to use against the master in case he comes after her.
olive is just a lil human and doesnt really have a kryptonite, but she does have a panic disorder, so i guess that would kinda count!! that would be a dick move though dont be mean to her :(
#kit's questions!#d; youre a book thats not quite finished but ill watch you fill the page#chooqueuetrain

I would like to end by saying, FUCK GITF!TEN'S CHARCTERIZATION!

moments in time
I know I'm late but....HAPPY BIRTHDAY @deardiary17!!!! Dearest Sasha, I hope you have received the gifts you wanted, spent time those with whom you love and, most importantly, know that your presence is absolutely adored!! You are literally the sweetest, kindest person I know -- here's some good ol' ninerose for you!!
--
moments in time
Summary:
In which the Ninth Doctor and Dimension-Hopping Rose meet after the younger her refuses him.
AO3
Thereâs a click behind her, a split second before she feels a hand take hers (itâs firm and calloused and the hand of a mechanic, of an adventurer -- hers is soft and warm and is the hand of an artist, the hand of a wanderer -- they fit together, impossibly, inexplicably, unexplainably. They both feel like theyâve found a home.) Rose Tyler looks behind her and takes one look of his eyes, bright blue and entrancing, piercing and all-consuming, and becomes enchanted -- no, becomes overcome with an artist's need to draw, to paint and create and immortalise the vision in front of her -- the moment in front of her.
The adrenaline, the exhilaration, the piercing eyes and the clenched hands and the beating hearts and the --
âRun.â
They speed off, vengeful plastic entities at their heels, and the moment is lost.
(Not lost -- simply frozen in some distant part of time --)
---
She chases him, because thatâs the only conceivable thing to do.
The march wind blows a soft breeze, flapping at her hoodie, her hair, and yet, The Doctor looks unaffected, answering her every question with pure belief in what he says and unrestrained snark and yet, the vital, teeming, gripping, clawing question, he will not answer.
Rose stops, her eyes wide, her eyes questioning and pleading, as she looks back at him, with his serious, sad, sad, sad eyes and his battered leather jacket and the whole of her world around him. She steps closer, hoping, wanting, needing to reach the crux of the matter:
âReally, though, Doctor. Tell me, who are you?â
Blonde hair flies in the wind, and the earnest eyes, the pleading need to know and the unrestrained interest, the want to know what lies beyond her concept of him, wants to know who he truly is -- it makes him, now a man of strong, tenable will and leather jackets and fragile hearts and so, so different from the Victorian one -- it makes him pause, makes him think incomprehensibly, incredulously: Rose Tyler, what have you done to me?
(He knows that sheâll be scared with what she finds -- he doesnât want her to be -- )
The Doctor takes her hand, soft and warm and an artistâs hand sculpted for his, and revels in her quiet, quick drawn breath, her wide eyes and her questioning need to know moremoremore.
He takes a breath at the vision.
He wants to capture this moment, tenuous as it is, delicate as it is; pity that his hands are not made to capture beauty this time round.
(No, they are forged from the fires of war -- they are made to create a better universe. One without the need for someone called The Doctor.)
âDo you know like we were saying about the Earth revolving? It's like when you were a kid. The first time they tell you the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it because everything looks like it's standing still. I can feel it.â
(the spinning, revolving, rotating, falling, clinging, gripping, grasping, falling again --)
âThe turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling round the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go. That's who I am.â
(thatâs who he is, an undefinable entity, an amalgamation of memories, of experiences and planets and people and -- )
âNow, forget me, Rose Tyler. Go home.â
...
He opens the TARDIS door, turns back and watches her walk away, ice blue eyes intense and piercing and wondering, before flying away.
....
(He closes the door with a frown and, despite his logical Time Lord's brain, his screaming conscience that says she'll be better off without him, his human hearts hope she remembers.)
(That she returns -- )
---
Thereâs a hope in his eyes that Rose can see is desperate, is wanting and makes her want to reach out, wants to make her take his hand and say yes, yesyesyes.
Everything in him appeals to her -- his snark, the absolute alieness of him, the cluelessness and the joy for living in the moment. The set of his shoulders, the firm grip upon her hand, like she is his tether to Earth despite feeling the rotation of the planet itself, despite knowing the footfall and biology of every creature conceived in the universe, he comes back to her hand.
(Her.)
His absolutely fabulous bum and his sheer, shorn hair -- the want for adventure and the need for someone to share the experience with.
Rose is appealed by everything he holds, every quality, every snark, every absolute wonderful cluelessness.
And yet, for the life of her, when he asks the vital question, the one that sends the desperate, hopeful look her way, she falters.
His smile is tentative, his eyes wanting, needing, and his heart finally growing warm after so long in the presence of this special ape.
He hopes, he hopes and hopes some more and knows, despite it all, if she refuses his human hearts would break.
She falters, she rattles on about her mum and Mickey and, and, and --
Heâs gone.
She blinks her eyes, eyes bright and not in a good way, a terrible regret and dread and sadness overcoming her -- what has she done?
(Sheâs just lost the only exciting thing in her life up until then -- the only reprieve from the monotony of the telly drone and the beans-on-toast and the nine-to-five job and -- )
---
The Doctor wonders -- he wonders, and wanders all the way from the markets of Plattatoa IV to the docks of New Southampton, New England, all about Rose.
(He thinks about âRun.â and her wide, wondering, eyes --Â thinks about bottle-blonde hair and an incredulous, tongue-touched grin and a hand that just fits -- fits like no other, fits like it was made for his every groove, his every callous -- like his was made for her every soft curve, like it was made for her every warm grasp -- )
There is a moment, when he wonders what he couldâve said, couldâve done, to change her mind -- he crushes the thought with shocking brutality, crushes it with painful hearts.
There is a moment when he catches sight of blonde hair and thinks impossibly, incredulously -- itâs her. But itâs not -- itâs a wig, a flash of hay, a jeweler's wares catching his eye.
He glances and hardens his heart.
(He caves and goes back to buy the treasure, the yellow and gold and pink treasure, belonging to a once-upon-a-time companion.)
âŚ
There is a moment, when he is at his worst, that he convinces a family not to set sail on the Titanic. Because in that family, there is love -- love in the father and the mother and the children that cling to each otherâs hand, the children that wave him hello and make him think -- just this one change, give me this.
It is tiny, a simple flux in time that is astoundingly normal -- give him this, the ability to save even one family, even one child, when he failed millions, and he will be fine.
(He will be ecstatic to know that there is still kindness -- still life, inside him, the alien shrouded in the remnants of war and death and darkness -- )
There is a moment, when he is decked in a necktie and black peacoat, a moment where he places a top hat upon his head and the camera flashes that he catches the sight of a familiar face in the Southampton (not New Southampton, this time --) crowd. He wants to believe itâs true, wants to believe the bottle-blonde hair is real but she looks at him, a sad, slow, hopeful look, and nostalgic smile and then -- just like that, she disappears in the midst of the gathering.
He wants to believe, but he canât.
(He desperately wants to believe -- but he wonât disappoint himself any further,)
He wants to jump away from this family, this group of people he has granted happiness to to find his own, but he canât.
(He wonât.)
He wants to stop his hearts from beating out of his chest, but he canât.
(He darenât try to.)
...
There is a moment, when he watches the ocean lap at the docks, when he watches the sand shift under the tread of a crab, when he tastes the whisper of the gentle wind upon his superior tongue, that he hears a gentle crunch behind him, a calm shifting of the sand, a familiar (oh-so-familiar) heartbeat.
He turns --
âRose.â
His eyes are wide, her eyes are teary -- theyâre bright in an oh-so good way.
âDoctorâŚâ she breathes, eyes bright and teary, heart full and mind hopeful. She steps closer, wants to hug him, hold him, profess her love to him -- wants to know that he still misses her, even if he doesnât know who this version of her is right now.
They stare at each other, stare and wonder and glance and become entranced by each otherâs changes; itâs another moment to be captured -- maybe in the recesses of their minds or perhaps on an artistsâ canvas.
No matter, there is no moment to lose --
Rose Tyler, the woman who jumped in a box with a madman knows that no one, not even a Time Lord, can truly control the flow, the flux, the ripple of time --Â no matter how hard they try to fight it.
(She would know -- all the time in the world, and she still couldn't keep her promise -- couldnât hang on long enough -- couldnât fight the pull of the void --Â )
(A different one of him knows -- the one who after the loss of all that mattered, the loss of her, knows that despite everything -- despite will and grief and sheer force -- Time bends for no one. Not even for the chasm of the Last Time Lordâs grief.)
She grabs his hand, the hand that held her cheek in adoration, the hand that stroked her hair when she fell asleep, the hand that fixed her mumâs telly however reluctantly -- the hand that gave her indescribable comfort when she felt the world around her was crumbling to dust.
She takes it, closes her eyes and holds it to her chest as the night sky twinkles from above, holds it as the waves lap by, holds it as tears stream down her face and as the Doctor (her beloved, brash, bruised Doctor -- the one she first loved -- ) watches her with soft, forlorn eyes and hearts so unaccustomed to this need to hold, to cherish and care and love someone (her --) after the pain of the Time War.
She opens her eyes, breathes a breath so deep that her heart pauses for a moment to assimilate the oxygen before her samba (and his -- his hearts copy hers, impossibly, indescribably, incredulously --) restarts again. She takes his hand, holds it as one holds a cherished token, a cherished memory, sentiment, wish -- and kisses it softly, gently, lovingly, adoringly.
It burns him -- this absolute care for him, for something as ordinary as his knobbly, not-so-pretty hand. She turns it over, traces every mark, every groove, every indent and muscle and palm line.
âYou said no.â he accuses, watching her worship the hand forged from the fires of war, from the destruction he caused.
She presses a kiss upon his wrist, his vein that carries a double drum, his vein, his lifeline, that brings life to this man -- this man that she so adores, adored beyond conceivable comprehension.
âI know.â
Her head bobs, she letâs go of his hand, places it gently by his side, she looks up --
His eyes are penetrating, piercing, questioning, wanting, needing to know one vital question:
(So many vital questions -- )
âRose, I --Â what do you feel for me? Who are you, to me? Who am I to you?â
He gazes at her, solemn and sad and wondering, "What changed?"
He swallows, throat dry as she turns her burning gaze on him -- it burns him to the core.
(burns itself, the golden gaze, upon his hearts, his soul -- )
She looks in his eyes, smiles a secret smile, recounts a moment that could be only a few hours ago, or perhaps a thousand for him and yet she remembers it as clear as yesterday, remembers her wonder, her awe, her adrenaline --
She looks into his eyes, hair flying in the wind -- just like that moment an eon, a yesterday, ago.
âDoctor, when you realise youâve grown up -- you realise that youâre not the same person you were as a kid. You realise that small kid you were, the one who felt insecure and felt that she would be trapped on her planet, in her estate and her life and her job -- you realise that sheâs gone - and, you donât know whether you love her, hate her, miss her -- you donât know any of these things.â
(she knows no certainty towards the notion -- she knows that felt trapped, knows that she felt obligated to live that life -- but living, missing, hating -- she feels a mixture, an amalgamation of these things, when she thinks of her previous existence.)
âBut Doctor,â
She takes his hand, entwines their fingers and their hearts and their lives and timelines, a lifetime before she could conceive it, a lifetime after and a lifetime even now, in some distant flux in time.
âThereâs a moment when you wish you could relive the catalyst that caused you to change; a moment where you wish that you knew that you had great things, great dreams and adventures and possibilities waiting for you. And you almost wish that you could go back in time, tell your past self that there is a world beyond what she can conceive, tell them that there is someone who will ignite them.â
(that there is someone that will burn for you.)
She squeezes their hands tighter, holding onto him for dear life -- and he may as well be doing the same thing, the way that his hearts are beating, the way that he is clenching her hand, as of she is his tether, his pull --
âBut you know, that if you do that -- you will never realise the present you live, the glorious, fantastic future that awaits, Doctor. You know that you will never know adventures like you have until now, you know that you will never know the friends that await, you know you will never know the feelings that will grip you. You will never know the moment, that one special moment, that changed everything.â
The Doctor stares, wide-eyed in the face of her brilliance, her warmth and her wisdom and her starlight -- in the face of her.
âAnd what was the moment that changed everything, Rose?â
She steps closer, smiling that tongue-touched grin -- she steps, just in front of him, where he can feel her breath laying gently upon his lips, where he can stroke her wrist, where he can lift a hand to her cheek as she places the hand that is not clenched in his upon one of his erratically beating hearts.
âThe moment? There were so many...one in a crowded street, another in a dungeon, another a bunker and one more on a frozen planet -- so many on the TARDIS, but the one I think of -- when you took a different face, when we stood on the planet that cemented our fates, our feelings, our future --â
She glances up, a selfless love, a all-encompassing love that he is beginning to nurture, beginning to already return, after so little time --
âThe moment -- itâs when I took your hand in mine, different, true, but still yours, still the one I will always adore, and I promised you âForeverâ.â
They squeeze each other so tightly they may burst, kiss so ardently they may combust, but neither cares -- neither wants to stop, neither could stop this moment written across time and space and fates even if they wanted.
(which they donât -- nevernevernever )
She releases, panting, desperate, wanting himhimhim and he wants herherher --
She rests her crown against his, rests her breath upon his lips, she gifts her heart to him as he does the same, unknowing and yet so willing.
She looks up into icy eyes, grips him closerclosercloser, biting his earlobe as he lets out a groan, a needing desire gripping him --
âTell her --â she pants, gasps deeper and deeper, âTell me -- that the TARDIS travels in time.â
He sends her a burning look, as if she is daft, and the next second, time is in flux -- anything (and everything) could happen.
(Everything happens -- stars combust and a new future is born.)
---
The Doctor wakes in an inn, the Bad Wolf Inn he later finds out, naked as the day he regenerated, his clothes nowhere to be seen (well, except his leather jacket, which is placed upon his bed, smelling of sea salt and yet indescribably sweet, indescribably delicious and, and --) -- his memory is foggy, and unclear.
He wonders if he got drunk.
(drunk on her pants, her moans and her love and her essence -- her life, her Rose Tyler-ness -- )
The innkeeper is kind enough to lend him a set of clothes, he shrugs the leather on and as he leaves, as he rests his eyes on the shabby, yellow-painted sign, he wants to strike herself for his daftness;
I didnât tell her the TARDIS travelled in time.
He takes a leap of faith and runs back to the TARDIS, setting coordinates for March 26 2005, Earth, The Solar System -- he hopes (hopes with all of his hearts) and opens the door.
---
âBy the way, did I mention it also travels in time?â
She sends a blinding, tongue-touched grin and runs towards him.
(She never looks back, not even a universe away.)

aftermath
summary: âDoctorâŚâ Rose breathed, as if stunned to see him only a few feet away from her after that horrible, death-defying moment. âDoctor!â she gasped, and if that breathless, wondrous relief to find him there, to find him alive and whole and still too-far out of reach for her comfort didnât both shatter his hearts and fill them with love, then he didnât know what would.
AO3
aftermath: the consequences or after-effects of a significant unpleasant event.
---
The Void closed, and as the suction stopped and that hearts-stopping moment of danger passed, The Doctor became overcome by a sudden raging need to hold his beautiful, brilliant Rose close, to feel her soft figure in his arms, to smell the sweet but oddly tangy scent of her shampoo, to know that she was safe and not about to be pulled away from his arms -- from his embrace that always seemed to bring danger into her life but that she refused to remove herself from.
A trembling grip let go of the lever (those damning levers) and despite himself, despite knowing that the storm had passed, The Doctorâs hands still trembled. He looked up, brown eyes widened and he searched for those whisky-coloured pools that he so adored, those whisky coloured pools that belonged to his precious pink-and-yellow human.
âDoctorâŚâ Rose breathed, as if stunned to see him only a few feet away from her after that horrible, death-defying moment. âDoctor!â she gasped, and if that breathless, wondrous relief to find him there, to find him alive and whole and still too-far out of reach for her comfort didnât both shatter his hearts and fill them with love, then he didnât know what would.
âRose...â he breathed, wishing -- hoping, that the Universe, for once in his many centuries of pain and desperation and heartache, had been kind, rushed forward, colliding with her but not caring in the least as he scooped her up in his arms and cradled her close, as if even a breadth separation from her would tear him away from this magnificent, beautiful, wondrous creature that was his Rose Tyler.
âDoctor,â she sighed back, relief and heartache and desperation to hold each other close pounding through the both of them, âYouâre here,â she sniffled into his neck, nuzzling him closer as a light breath sent goosebumps running up his neck, âYouâre really here.â He grasped her tighter, because how could he ever let go of Rose Tyler now?
How could he ever let go of this pink-and-yellow human who held possibility and compassion in every breath? âForever, Rose Tyler; Thatâs how long you promised me, isnât it? Iâm holding you to that, youâre stuck with me now.â He chuckled, watery and weak; the consequences of having Rose beside him for her forever would come crashing down later, he was sure, just now -- now during this tenuous moment, he was simply glad to have her in his arms.
âStuck with you?â she chuckled, looking up from her nest in his neck, mascara running down her cheeks and a watery grin on her lips, not his favourite tongue-touched one but still braver and more genuine than if he had lost Rose, âThatâs not so bad.â she teased, fingers refusing to let go of the Doctor as he returned the sentiment.
They had exchanged those words under a black hole, the TARDIS lost and hope bereft, but now he was forced to consider those words. Rose Tyler, full of starlight and never-ending compassion, stuck with him, the alien who brought trouble with every turn and danger and destruction and darkness? She was without her family, only him and the TARDIS left to care for the brilliant, shining spectacle that she was. What had he done?
âNo?â he asked, bringing his hands up to her face to tenderly caress her rosy cheeks, âNot bad at all?â he asked apprehensively, wondering when she would regain her senses after the victory of battle and realise what he had done. Steely determination entered her eye, âNever.â she vowed as he planted a sincere kiss of hope and regret, of longing and sorrow, on her forehead.
He shouldâve said, âNever say never.â But he didnât, because for once, he wanted to enjoy (wanted to hope and pretend) this feeling of contentment (that this illusion of peace) would last.
Instead, he drew away and took her hand, enjoying the soft skin that he adored, and took a last, searing glance at her face; he could feel the shift of timeliness and the change of possibility, and yet, for these faint, trembling moments, he wanted to hold her close in the safety of his arms and the always-expanding confines of the TARDIS.
âTARDIS?â he asked, searing this image of a battle-won Rose Tyler in his hearts. âYeah,â she grinned, tongue peaking out as she tugged him forward, desperate to leave the forbidding white wall behind as exhaustion took hold. âDoctor? Are you alright?â
And wasnât that the question.
âOh,â he breathed, âIâm always alright, Rose Tyler.â Rose, brilliant, beautiful, tangible Rose, frowned; âReally?â she hummed, doubt flickering in her eyes as she squeezed his hand tighter, âThen, do you wanna go home?â
âHome?â he breathed, because what was home? Was it Gallifrey, with its imposing laws and twin suns that was lost to the Time War, or was it the TARDIS, ever-present family and companion that held him within her walls and cared for him? Was it this dinky planet in the Mutter Spiral that grew leaps and bounds every time he happened upon it or was it a small flat in the Powellâs Estate, filled with second-hand furniture and the bristling warmth of Jackie Tyler ? Or was it indeed his pink-and-yellow human, who took his hand when he said âRun!â and never let go; was his home her, who held kindness and compassion in every touch every breath? Was it the blinding human who shined like the sun and held starlight in her wake? Was it her, who was his home?
âHome -- The TARDIS, Doctor. Thatâs alright, isnât it, Doctor?â She wouldnât want her home elsewhere -- her home was the crevice in the Doctorâs neck and the enclosed hugs and affections of her best friend and not-so-secret love. Her home was the twisting TARDIS corridors and the coral-decked console room -- because anywhere else would never compare, never realise her hopes and dreams and wonders as well as the Doctor and the TARDIS. The Doctor squeezed her hand closer and tighter to his, bringing her to his side as he hummed in delight despite the onslaught of heartache soon to come. âThatâs brilliant, Rose Tyler. Letâs go home.â
He tugged her forward, and they ran; ran away from the empty flat and blinding white wall, ran away from the place called the Torchwood Institute and ran towards the realisation that they only had each other now, ran towards the blue box that was their home and towards the possibility that everything the held dear was in each otherâs essence.
They ran and ran and ran, towards possibility and adventure and goodbye and heartache. But first, they ran towards the TARDIS console and then beyond -- beyond into the Vortex and into the TARDIS library.

For @raphillia for the @mlsecretsantaÂ
Dear @raphillia, I hope you enjoy this gift of mine! Happy Holidays!
Pairings: Marichat
Under City Starlight...
When Adrien first meets Marinette, she is fierce and angry;Â
She is volatile and refuses to meet his gaze, and Adrien is disappointed -- has he managed to mess up making a friend already?
But then, the rain is pouring and the thunder is flashing and he extends his umbrella; he doesnât want to lose what could be a new friend, doesnât want to lose the possibility of her buoyancy and vibrancy and burning flame.Â
She gazes at him -- and he feels he is bare underneath a microscope, feels that his soul is revealed underneath her burning gaze. And it is, in a way, and so, as he apologizes and explains and asks for a new beginning, the burning azure turns pure ocean blue -- able to see and heal and realise all that he is and will be and was.Â
She reaches out as if in a trance, thunder flashing as they bump fingers -- hers are soft but subtle, pricked with hours spent with steel needle and pen callouses from hours spent scribbling away and sketching anything and everything her heart desireâs.Â
The rain falls gently, like stars from above, and as she takes the black umbrella -- rain falling like stars and smattering the dark colour with the beauty of starlight -- the umbrella encloses around her. He takes one look and laughs, joyous and radiant, but it is nothing compared to hers -- she lifts the umbrella, and upon hearing his laughter -- his laughter of dappled sunlight and evergreen meadow and dancing willow -- she joins in.Â
She grins and laughs; but her laughter -- hers is of the tinkle of bells and the whisper of brushing branches and the gentle sweep of waves and the vibrancy of a storm all at once.Â
It is vivacious and vicious in itâs beauty and its joy. It is the rising of the sun and the shining of the stars and the poison red of wine.Â
It is beauticious, he thinks, and passes the umbrella.Â
He passes his hand and his umbrella and his friendship and the beginnings of his heart, unknowing in all this.Â
âFirst day of school and we already have two lovebirds,â Plagg says, but Adrien is delighted in simply having a friend -- after all this time, a friend.Â
Come too close, and youâll fall far too hard, but I donât think he minds --Â
____
When Chat Noir first meets Marinette, it is to protect her.Â
She is, rightfully so, scared and unsure (how naive he is.) Still, even if she is scared, she is bright and unyielding and refuses to be cowed. The sun is setting and the stars are gently appearing when she walks up those stairs to meet the boy who so adores her -- Evillustartor that is, and certainly not Chat Noir.Â
He doesnât adore her, not like he adores Ladybug, but he admires her. Admires her courage and splendour and vibrancy. Admires her vivaciousness and her tactileness as she steals the pen from Evillustrator, admires her flashing eyes and raven hair under the moonlight -- admires the stars reflected in her eyes and the ocean blue turning to fiery, burning azure and -- âCHAT NOIR!âÂ
She is displeased, and seems to be fending Evillustator off -- âIt would be brilliant if you could help me anytime today!â she yells, hair shining as she nimbly sidesteps the supervillainâs lunging figure. She trips -- her everlasting clumsiness, he thinks fondly -- and the pen goes flying. Chat, for all his prowess, is slow to answer Marinetteâs call; he leaps and bound and flies to her rescue (and also the pens) -- and is immediately trapped in a box with her while the boat sinks.
Great.
Evillustrator bounds into the night, and for a desperate moment, Chat wonders if they will truly sink -- talk about failing his lady, heâll be failing his friend and himself. But once again, Marinette surprises him -- when has she not surprised him? --Â and goes above and beyond, rescuing him with that shining, innovative mind of hers.
"Cat Noir, your stick -- like this, and extend it."Â
And she blows him away -- with her genius, her smarts. He keeps her close, her arms wrapped around him, a pleasant buzz spreading throughout him as he vaults them over and toward relative safety.Â
He sets her down, drawing away as she stares back at him in what he imagines is absolute impressiveness. He bound to the railing, turning back to his...his -- Princess, for a last moment. She stares back, eyes twinkling as he motions towards himself, "I've got damsels in distress to save, ladies in waiting -- I'll cat-ch you later, Purrincess?" He can't help but throw in.
"Princess?" She wrinkles her nose, "Right. Well, Minou, I suppose you can go save your damsels in distress.I wouldn't want to keep them waiting, but I'm sure this damsel -- who is not in distress and instead saved your butt and inflicted some damage -- can find her way home tonight. I'm sure Ladybug awaits you, though,"Â
Golden-haired and full of cheery grins, he lets out a bark of laughter and green eyes sparkle in the streetlight, taken by her wit. He nods though, giving her a salute as he bounds away, jumping and vaulting and trying to take his mind off of that certain cheek of Marinette's.
____
A broken heart, and she's there waiting. He wonders who caused her to revert to a dim-eyed remnant of the normally bright girl.Â
He takes her with him on a whim, something to heal both their hearts -- just because Ladybug isn't there to enjoy it doesn't mean Marinette can't.Â
She takes his hand, claws and all, and he sweeps her up in his arms. He jumps past her balcony, past her twinkling fairy lights and potted roses, past the neighbouring rooftops, leaping to and fro with her in his arms before setting her down gently on his candle-strewn rooftop.
He steps away from her, taking a minute to light the scattered candles. The light dances merrily, and as she opens her eyes, sees her bathed in the light and his breath is held in the beauty of it -- it makes up for the disappointment of Ladybugâs no-show.
It does, in the biggest of ways; the beauty she sees in his endeavour lets him know that this -- candle's alight and rose petals strewn -- can take someone's breath away.
Can take Marinette's -- kind, compassionate, fierce, heartbroken Marinette's -- breath away. It kindles a proud satisfaction, and even though he is morose, he can't help but feel that in the candlelight, Marinette looks as if she is an angel sent just for him.
Someone to draw him out of his funk and to take his hand and draw close and --Â
Huh.
She is beautiful, isn't she?
She is beautiful in every way, be it because of her kind nature or raven hair and flickering blue eyes or because of her courage and fiery disposition.
She is beautiful and vivacious in all ways, and he feels -- he wonders what this swooping feeling in his stomach is?
She glances at him and they smile at each other and all is well.
That is, until they get attacked by a certain ice cream akuma.
____
He visits as often as he can, and she stays up later. He sees a side to his friend he had never seen before -- sees past her flailing arms and stuttered words and half-formed responses that he often delights in when she gathers the courage to talk to him -- Adrien Agreste, that is.
Here, as Chat Noir, he can experience all the things that make-up who Marinette is that Adrien cannot.Â
He can experience her wit and her banter, can experience her teasing grins and lit up eyes and her small nudges. He can bundle up close to her as she leans on him and she can lean against him and bop his nose and think nothing of it because they're friends.
The closest of night owls and the closest of friends, and he feels that under the mask he is privy to the side of Marinette that she feels the need to hide from Adrien. How wrong she is, because she lights up like stars and sun combined and he flourishes under her smiles and grows giddy when her hand brushes his and beams when she leans in and bops his nose and brazenly, without hesitation or thinking things through, he takes her hand and pulls --Â
Pulls and pushes and takes her spinning and twirling as if there is nothing under the night sky that can trouble them. She spins and he spins and some nameless song is what they're dancing to from her phone.
...and if I were so bold, fly away with me here
Yes, fly away with him, let this moonlight spirit of Marinette's dance among the stars and the rooftops and the city lights as if nothing can contain her -- as if nothing can stop her.
fly away, high away, and let me love you
And nothing can stop her. Not him or Chloe or anyone else, because that's what Marinette does. She soars and flies and even still tethered to the ground, trapped on Earth, she soars above the rest of them. Caring and healing and helping in anyway she can because she is that good.
She is that kind and wonderful and amazing, and nothing can stop her.
So like another, another person, but he can't remember who --Â
kiss you, cradle you, adore you
Because in this moment, there is only Marinette with stars in her eyes and music in her ears and magic in her hands and moonbeams under her feet. There is only her, and she is pain and beauty all at once and if this is drowning --Â
and all will be well.
Drowning in her inner beauty and outer beauty and her cookie and paper scent; drowning in her fire and ocean and compassion and skill and talent and kindness -- then he thinks he could get used to it but still feel exhilarated every time.
If this is drowning, then all will be well.
____
And then, the catalyst starts.Â
Because he knows that his affection for Ladybug had not waned but his affection for Marinette had grown by leaps and bounds.Â
They stare into the sunlight from the plane and he can only admire her silhouette against the beautiful tones. He takes the tissue caught in her hair -- and how did it get there? -- and he lingers a few seconds longer to revel in her velvet hair.
And then, they are off the plane and in the bus towards the hotel, and he stares out at the scenic sunrise against the American skyscrapers and buildings and yet --
Yet he can only focus on Marinette against the window, and his eyes soften and her feels heat rise to his cheeks and he thinks words like Beautiful and Amazing and Enchanting.Â
He's sure that Nino doesn't notice but that quirk of the brow Alya sends him is all-knowing and he looks away furiously as his cheeks flush.
And then, he and Marinette are sent together for separate tasks, and spotting her, he wants -- he wants Adrien as well as Chat Noir to be able to get Marinette's barriers down, to let her know that she needn't hide, and he knows that he just needs to go that extra length. But then the building shakes, and the pillar is crumbling and Marinette is going to get hurt and he can't --Â
He can't allow it -- won't allow it.
Because it goes beyond being a friend -- it goes beyond being his night owl partner and being his closest friend. It turns into wanting her delirious with joy and protected at all costs and starts with feeling a blush overtake his cheeks whenever she looks a second too long towards him.
It turns from being innocent to being interested, and this is a comfort as much as it is a conundrum. Because he leaps and catches her in his arms, dodging the fallen rubble as she breathes out a gasp of, "Chat Noir!?"
He doesn't know if it is the adrenaline or his heightened hormones, but he breathes out and answers in an equally raspy voice. "Hello Princess," he says, before dropping a kiss on her forehead and bounding away to fight the akuma.
If he feels any amount of delight in her slack jaw, then that's really nobody's business except his own (and undoubtedly Plagg's, at some point or another.)
____
After New York, after her surprised gasps and her questions and her sentiment towards him -- Adrien -- he starts bringing flowers.Â
There isn't a particular pattern, but he delights in the way her face lights up like a for work and the way the flower of the week takes pride in her windowsill vase. Sometimes it is lavender or marigolds or bougainvillia -- other times it can be daisies or orchids or roses.
It doesn't really matter, because each one lights up her face, and that is all the gift he needs.
Each time he drops by, he starts leaving flowers; each one holds a sentiment, a memory for him or for her, and as he watches her press the dried flowers in her scrapbook specially meant for his flowers, he can't help but feel inexplicably pleased.
____
Underneath the city starlight, and still Chat Noir can only focus on Marinette.
Marinette, with raven-hair and sky blue eyes that could change with the slightest change of emotion (he should know; penetrating azure blue from when they first met lightening to clear ocean blue, doe-eyed and trusting and -- was this all it took to gain a friend? His first new friend -- she was fierce, standing up to him, but kind, forgiving him -- and she was all sorts of amazing, wasn't she?)
She is shining and exudes brilliance -- and he can't help but bathe in it.
She is sunlight and starlight and moonlight; winter chill and summer breeze and spring wind and autumn gale, all in one.Â
They sit side by side, backs propped up against the circular table -- not particularly comfortable but enough so that their legs brush each other and that they can take in the blinking starlight and the rush of the city night life.
They each hold a mug; hot chocolate from the pink flask and whipped cream from Marinette's fridge. Chat takes the whipped cream in his 'World's Best Dad!' mug, while Marinette takes to instead adding marshmallows in her brew of hot chocolate, contained within a pink mug with black spots. They are their own person, but dwarfed by the night sky and ever-expanding universe and the ambience of Parisian nightlife and it feels as if they are one soul that inhabits two bodies, connected by the hands they both hold.
His feelings for her have not turned into love quite yet; they are still emerging and developing like a newborn fawn. Learning to stand on their feet and take a steady stand; he knows a time will come when he must confront them, but right now, under the city starlight, he can't help but feel that all is wellÂ
That nothing truly changes when he confronts these feelings of his, because they'll still be them.
Marinette and Adrien.
Marinette and Chat Noir, and all the other thousand possibilities.Â
He'd like to think that under the city starlight, holding hands with his best friend and savouring her special Dupain-Cheng exclusive hot-chocolate, all will be well and he thinks he will.
They're both under the city starlight, and nothing can change that.
Nothing.
(Not even the akuma that disrupts their peaceful stargazing. Oh well.)
