hi! i love toya, he's just my little guy in pjsk. personal take on all of this: vbs' world link HEAVILY IMPLIES toya's event is next. in his chapter stories (not card), he talks with kaito about "that thing he's [kaito] helped him with" which if i remember correctly, was also explicitly stated to be his task (from ken). there might also be some substantial material in his card stories, but i haven't checked those. of course, correct me if i'm wrong, but i sincerely doubt the writers would leave us hanging like this

I think akito probably dislikes skin-to-skin contact.

He’s always wearing three layers, and we see multiple times where he just. Avoids touching someone’s skin.

In Tsukasa’s White Day card, his sleeve is separating his hand from his face. In Toya’s WOAO card, they bump forearms instead of hands. In the Gunjo Sanka animation, Akito fist bumps Toya’s chest instead of Toya’s arm. In Akito’s Nocturne Interlude card, he grabs his shoulder and ruffles his hair, not actually touching skin. The only time I could find Akito actually being touched was the animation of the main story, where Toya grabs his hands. Akito breaks away pretty fast, and he wasn’t the one initiating the contact. There are two main exceptions. The first being when Akito punched Toya, and the second being whenever Ena scratched Akito.

I think this is because Akito came to associate skin contact with violence if that makes sense? Football/soccer isn’t a super contact-heavy sport, but if you do make contact it tends to hurt. He only initiated contact when he punched someone, and he’s used to getting hurt by his sister.

i swear i remember seein it at one point, but are there any cards where the characters school uniforms are altered in any way? (like jackets taken off, sweaters taken off, shorter sleeves etc)

only a few. there's An's Top-Notch Server! 3* card which has her without her blazer, and Airi's Intro to Tea Ceremony which has her without her cardigan.

all the other examples come from the kamikou festival cards. technically they are wearing their school uniforms in these cards if we ignore that their shirts have been swapped out for class tshirts. we have Rui with his school blazer in Mizuki's Rooftop Friendship 4* and Nene with her school cardigan in her Animal Cotton Candy 3*. This is the only time those parts of their uniform are ever seen. Oh and Toya wears what is presumably meant to be his unit outfit hoodie here - before it was decided it was short-sleeved in woao - instead of his blazer (also yeah they straight up didn't give him an outfit for his 2* he's just in his school uniform from the event LMAO).

Top 5 Toya cards

1) wday2 knight. whghhhh it’s just sooo. the colors r rlly nice and the hairstyle is so good . dragon aibou. once again his ass CANNOT do casual and this time i like the card s lot more . i got him 2nd ten pul. heh

2) wtwg. the symbolism here is so good, the split between kohane and ans sides, his uncertainty and fear of disappointment on the right, holding the cheek where akito punched him in the main story, the left being kohane providing a stability for him … i also like the hairstyle a lot

3) sanrio. it’s just once again really cute 😭😭😭😭 i find it so funny how the two dog cards “BAD DOGS” got were cutesy little ouppy cards . regardless he’s just so cute the costumes so cute i love him. so much. i’m heart broken i will likely have to skip this one but alas. also i just like that he got a more colorful card while the vibe still fit him

4) FAWO!!!!!! i don’t habe much of s reason other than i’m extremely attached to fawo cards . it’s just pretty to me, the blue in contrast with akitos red… the pose and the offee… (also …… boy…. why you always got that damn orange cat…)

5) woao untrained . ummmmm i don’t have an excuse . looks in the mirror gripping the sink disheveled and bloody .

(deep breath) I love Toya but can we all admit that Sega treats him terribly?

He didn’t get an event for over 500 days, he hasn’t gotten a limited hairstyle in over a year, he hasn’t had a duet in over a year (archives don’t count and technically Haruka and Shizuku have it worse) he doesn’t get to interact with anyone outside of WxS (FFS his two mixed events have more or less the exact same lineup) and until the First Concerto happened they just used him as a tool to show how amazing Akito and Tsukasa are instead of giving him anything to himself. And the whole “he interacts with only WxS” thing is a huge shame because he only has a good dynamic with Tsukasa there so I’m not sure why they have to glue him to them. I guess you could argue that Kanade also has this problem since they only put her with L/N but at least she isn’t half as mistreated as he is.

At least with the whole “meeting new people thing” he got to properly interact and befriend Queen Haruka in Take the Best Shot I’m not going to pretend that their interactions are very surface level so far. He could have such an interesting dynamic with Mafuyu, Shizuku or Kanade, hell he and Haruka were both in the music industry at a very early age facing a ton of pressure so why not elaborate on that?

And with the whole “using him as a tool to boost Akito and Tsukasa thing” before the First Concerto Toya literally had only two jobs, hyping up Akito and setting up stuff for him and hyping up Tsukasa and setting up stuff for him. Both WOAO and NGUC lean so heavily into this that it’s honestly painful. And when he’s not doing that he gets shafted by the NPCs. Just look at his WL which was entirely about Arata and Souma. Why are we shafting him in favor of NPCs, it’s such a waste and they aren’t even playable.

With that being said the First Concerto is amazing and I hope it only goes up from here but I can’t say I have much hope. He’s regularly getting shafted which is painful no matter how you look at it.

VBS event teaser commentary

Welcome back, it has been *checks calendar* 8 months since I was last able to do one of these jeez. Anyway, this will be a bit different to the ones I've done in the past, since rather than trying to predict what the event will be about, we already know. This is more of me trying to guess what will be in this event and what will be in VBS' next arc.

This event will have VBS finally surpassing RAD WEEKEND!!! This has been their primary goal since the start of the story, however more recently it has become more of a stepping stone for them in order to go beyond it. BREAK DOWN THE WALL has a lot of talk about how RW is a step for VBS before they go and do their own thing. It also is the obstacle blocking their SEKAI from expanding fully, in the form of a wall (hence the event title), which is also referenced in the event synopsis. The wall has started to crack with them honing their skills and resolve, but won't fully crumble until VBS can go beyond Nagi's dream.

Now all the way back to LUTF. Specifically the Nagi flashback section. So Nagi's dream was always for RADder to go on and reach a worldwide stage. They were popular in Japan and doing tours, and they had plans to do stuff overseas, but Nagi fell ill and died before any of this could become a reality. Nagi is like, the most important person in VBS' story. Ultimately she's the one who started it all. She decided to hold RW which inspired a whole generation of young people, passing the torch and hoping that they would go beyond what she achieved and do the things she always dreamed of. Without Nagi, there would be no VBS and no Street SEKAI.

So VBS' current goal is to go beyond what Nagi did, which entails VBS reaching around the world. However, the first step right now is to surpass RW. Now for what a lot of people have been asking me all day: is this rushed. Well, we won't really know until the event is out. But, imo, not really? It's been pretty obvious we're leading up to it, and while I thought we would have a few more events, this placement makes some sense (also WLEs are clearly leading up to a soon-ish big lore event so we need to get those sekai expanding lol).

I think some aspects could get rushed though or will happen offscreen. Again. Which was kinda an issue with On Your Feet, their last arc ender (though this was no fault of the writers i'm pretty sure they were not intending to wrap everything up at that point in time but plans were changed kinda last minute... you can tell bc events got insanely long for a bit and some units clearly needed more or less time than they were given). Mainly what comes to mind and what i've seen people talking about is Toya's song writing, and Arata's Whole Thing (& Souma!).

Toya's song writing is undoubtedly going to happen offscreen or in a card story. If it happens in the event itself, it probably will just be something that happens in passing and not given any focus, since this isn't his event. As for Arata (and Souma)? I think Arata will probably come back in this event, just because it feels very wrong to surpass RW without him. How they're going to bring him back? No idea, it was set up in BDTW and vaguely in Toya4 that he would come back in a future Toya event but this now feels like something that won't happen. However I still think the emotional baggage (aka his feelings about Souma and what Taiga said to him) will be dealt with in more detail in a future event, probably Toya5. Also then you can deal with Souma's stuff too, like the song he wrote for Arata that has been a thing since woao. Seriously, this is Toya event stuff, the only way they can get it in here is if they pull an Our Happy Ending and give Toya a dedicated chapter and try and squeeze it all in there. At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised if Arata stays MIA or is limited to a small appearance. It would be a bit disappointing, but there's a lot for the Squad past RW, so he can be there for event that surpasses the event that surpassed RW ig.

So what's next? I seriously suggest reading the epilogue of BDTW, it's only 6 minutes long and talks a lot about VBS' goals from here on out.

Their new SEKAI area takes inspiration from many places worldwide and their cultures and music, and the graffiti is all the names of famous street music events. They conclude that it's a place for teams that take the world. There's also an interesting scene earlier in the event that Miku reflects on here - Nagi's ghost (possibly her actual ghost, possibly a physical incarnation of An's imagination) was walking around the SEKAI, and she was looking at this one specific blank spot on one of the walls. Obviously, that spot was meant for RADder, but they never got to carve their name. VBS' new goal is to do exactly that. Maybe we'll see some travelling from that (where on earth they'd get the money i don't know), or maybe we'll deal with everyone's feelings and unresolved plot points first and Then get on the worldwide stage stuff (probably in the same arc. two if they decide to continue this past 6th anni).

I got an ask this morning asking me why they’d censor asahi which has since led me into a downward spiral in the form of a post that reads something like this

> early EN TLs try to avoid using the term partner a lot for VBS probably so people wouldn’t confuse it with partner (romantic connotation) but this isn’t really a thing anymore

> they change “Akito and Arata love their partners” in POU to “Akito and Arata care about their partners” which still gets the meaning across but it’s a bit weird considering they do consistently translate daisuki as love with An and Kohane

> EN removed “it must be fate that we met here” from Rui’s spring menu voiceline (the one that matched with Tsukasa’s). They left in “what a coincidence” though and EN doesn’t have the best track record with localising Rui’s more poetic speech anyway.

> EN split the line “i was able to make this track because i want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you from now on and always” into two parts in woao. They removed “from now on and always” and changed the line to “i was able to put this track together because i want to keep singing with you. I want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you as we perform”. However because Toya’s card name and what he says to Akito in the original text are the same, Toya’s card actually does have to translate this line correctly, and translates it as “from now on and always”.

> EN then repeats this method of removing something a little too intimate and rephrasing one sentence into two to change the meaning with Asahi, by removing him outright stating that he fell in love (explicitly romantically) with Tsukasa’s portrayal of Miles.
