It’s clear he’s doing all this to irritate her and it’s not working.

“You don’t have to sit out here while you read,” Beth blurts out. Aimed right at him. Tired of the impasse. This little unbothered act he’s putting on.

Rio pouts his bottom lip like he disagrees, doesn’t look away from his book. “Bein’ social.”

okay so after sleeping on it i’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes . you really do just have to drag your favorite gacha png home by the ankles. which is exactly what i will do

a meta, of many to come because i could talk about her forever, about eden's temperament and who she is as a person as it pertains to other people.

eden is so painfully aro but she craves genuine connection and very deep down is capable of loving someone romantically, but it's such a nearly impossible feat of discerning obsession vs. love ( she often becomes obsessed with the idea of someone and the euphoric feeling of being adored in return ), and trying to figure out what is real.

it's not that it's so much a loose grip on reality in a true derealization sensibility, but in that eden also couldn't even tell you who the real version of her is and what is a facade, a front she wears between person to person. her personality and reactions shift based on who she's talking to, like a social chameleon tailoring her aura as needed. she hardly remembers who she was as a human, aside from the ambitious girl who dreamed of big city lights and bigger dreams to provide for her family. she doesn't know, doesn't know the first place to look to find who she is at her core.

eden knows the things she enjoys, but she wonders if that's enough to make her a person, if that's all that defines her personality and who she is. she knows that deep down she is kind, that it pains her to see genuinely good and innocent people suffer, that seeing people undeserving of the downtrodden luck and bad hands they've given fills her with a different bloom of rage that urges her towards vengeance and spite.

she no longer knows where to draw the lines between genuine friendship and connections, and what she sees as simple opportunities or things to gain and manipulate for her own pleasure or success. she doesn't remember if she was ever so outgoing, or if she's even outgoing at all; sometimes she thinks it's the need for manipulation and control that sends her to hold fast to someone and keep them tightly bound in her claws. it's almost always the only reason she ever approaches anyone first: she finds them interesting, or something they possess, and she sees something to gain.

control is important to eden, in all aspects of her life, because it's something she had so little of. it was not too significant of a factor as a human, patriarchal society aside, because she was well-loved in her family. the spiraling loss of control came after she was forcibly turned and left for dead ( even now, eden still doesn't know the truth of it — whether she was turned on purpose for the thrill of it, or if she was meant to serve purpose some day, or if she was never meant to live at all ). she knows that the vampirism changed her beyond just physically, though she isn't sure how much of it is psychological of her own making and overthinking, or if vampiric magics were genuinely responsible for changing the chemistry in her brain.

even in the quiet moments when the world is still and the thoughts are silent in her mind, eden isn't sure if who she is when she is in these moments of peace with her own solitude is the real her. all she knows is that some days, the energy is exhausting, and it makes her bitter and rash and angry and irrational, and that she's one bad inconvenience away from yet another killing spree so bad that the american people think they've got another highway serial killer on the loose.

she's deeply lonely in a different kind of way, in a way where she doesn't necessarily need anyone or even want anyone around, and it makes little sense to her, either. she enjoys the feeling of obsession, both in finding someone worth devoting her attention to and the thrill of seeking and receiving their coveted attention. but in other moments, she hates the idolization. it gets suffocating. it's not quite boredom, but something else entirely that she can't put a finger on. it makes her feel like her skin is crawling, like she's disgusted by the thought of people's presence alone — not because there is anything wrong with them, or anything that they did, but something completely irrational without explanation.

eden is larger than life, and becoming a vampire only made her even more so. she is an amalgamation of so many different things all at once. she can be soft, she can be kind, and she can be so affectionate and feel so loving, but she's not sure if she means it. she does, she thinks, but she can't tell the difference between this as a normal feeling of devotion towards friends or people she simply adores, and what might actually be rooted in a romantic kind of love. she wants it to be, but sometimes the thought sickens her, even if a part of her craves it. the other side of eden is vicious and cruel, a woman who toys with and tortures her prey. she tries to be careful in choosing her victims, but if she's ever off the deep end, she doesn't always stop to check — or think.

thinking about how people on twitter call their banner and pfp a "layout" as if they're really customizing much of anything at all and how most platforms shove users into these extremely narrow boxes and maybe if you pay you'll get to use a gif instead of a static image and how everything used to be so hyper customizable the whole page yours to control and express yourself and now there are just two boxes you get to control and augh. i don't know. i miss you customization even if i didn't get the chance to enjoy most of it
