I know I already made a post about this, laughing at how absurd it was, but now I want to treat it with a little more gravity.
It doesn't take but a few seconds scrolling through my page to see I'm an avid Zutara shipper. It's my OTP. But that doesn't make me more or less of a fan than any other shippers in the fandom.
I recognize that there was reason to ship Kataang if that was your cup of tea. That you guys had a few wins throughout the series. (And that you ultimately won at the end.) And one of those wins is the kiss in the cave of two lovers.
As a hard-core Zutara shipper, that can therefore look objectively at how Netflix decided to handle that cave, on behalf of all the level headed noncanon shippers:
Guys,
We are really sorry that they took one of your romantic episodes and made it about Katara and Sokka instead. That is so messed up. And while we do not ship Kataang, we can acknowledge that it, and all of you, deserved better. I'm sorry.
you dont need to agree with every transgender person but if you want to be taken seriously and push for trans liberation, you need to have a baseline respect for other peoples pronouns and desire not to be associated with their agab.
trans liberation isnt only for the "good" trans people. its not only for the trans people you find acceptable. its for everyone. trans liberation is about rejecting the rigidity and heirarchy of traditional gender roles in favor of the right to self-identification, transition, and non-conformity.
these are rights, not privileges to be taken away when someone says some shit you disagree with. i dont care how vile you think another trans person is, if they go by a particular name and pronouns and gender, you refer to them accordingly. we, as transgender people, should never intentionally and punitively misgender each other, no matter the situation.
Not sure if you meant for the questions to be askes BUT 9 for like iskra or something would be interesting since there is a mix of human and cardassian culture, does julian celebrate any terran holidays with them?
omg I wish I was a better worldbuilder, people come up with so many fun fake little holidays. Thanks to that one throwaway line in ST:D I've unilaterally decided that Cardassian culture is very food-centric, so you know baby Iskra got taken to lots of street food festivals celebrating military victories and elections..
Julian trying to figure out which terran holidays can be safely transported and re-potted on post-Fire Cardassia (I feel like he still tries to celebrate Federation day at home just so the kids can have some positive associations. Cue him and Lim trying to figure out how to cook a desert lungfish without soliciting their neighbors' help with removing the fibrous capsule..)
Halloween is a safe bet, I think. Scaring the spirits away is vaguely Hebetian and the locals enjoy both tricks and treats. Julian gives his coworkers at the hospital candy to distribute to her.
Still got to be lots of nationalist holidays to celebrate after the war, but now they're very much tinged with bitter memories. Now they're more of an opportunity to complain about the current administration and get drunk (both activities Iskra vigorously enjoys as an adult)
Kale is soooooooo fucking lucky he was only in the same room as Peppermint and Chai at the same time (while they're not fighting) during very intense emotional moments because if the three of them were casually in the vicinity of each other they would verbally tear Kale to shreds so immaculate he would be compostable.
