Retired Leaders AU Info Masterpost

Figured I'd compile basic info about this AU into one big post.

THE BASICS:

It's a "Good Uncle" kind of AU, where Belos is a better person. He actually tried to unite the realms, because he believed it would be beneficial for both, but it was doomed from the start and went horribly wrong. He has publicly admitted to and apologized for his wrongdoings and resigned from his position, and the Coven System was abolished. His family occupied leadership positions within his Coven and also left those roles behind, hence the AU's title.

I refer to the family as the Wolf Fam. It consists of Belos, Steven, Hunter and Kiki, along with their palismen. They all live together in a newly built house.

THE CHARACTERS:

This isn't a list of all characters that exist, just the Wolf Fam and a handful of others, mostly OCs.

Belos Wittebane (he/him; mid 410s): Former Lord of the Boiling Isles; now a palisman carver; husband of Steven.

Steven Bellamy (he/him; 53 y/o): Husband of Belos; former Head of the Lord's Coven; now a P.E. teacher at Hexside.

Hunter Wittebane (he/him; 17 y/o): Nephew of Belos, raised by him and Steven; former Golden Guard; now mainly focused on pursuing his interest in engineering and tech.

Kikimora Volk (she/her; mid 20s): A sort of adopted daughter to Belos and Steven and adopted sister to Hunter; former Secretary; now works at a history museum.

Crescent (they/them): A floating snow leopard palisman belonging to Belos.

Ash (he/him, they/them): A dark gray wolf palisman belonging to Steven.

Waffles (she/her, they/them): A winged red wolf palisman belonging to Hunter.

Grusha (she/her): A spotted hyena palisman belonging to Kiki.

Jasper Tholomule (he/him; 44 y/o): Younger half-brother of Steven; father of Matt; husband of Cass.

Cassidy "Cass" Tholomule (they/them, she/her; 44 y/o): Spouse of Jasper; stepparent of Matt.

Matthew "Matt" Tholomule (he/him; 13 y/o): Biological son of Jasper and stepson of Cass; nephew of Steven.

Leslie Bellamy (she/her; 80s): Mother of Steven and Jasper; grandmother of Matt; wife of Opal.

Opal Bellamy (she/her; 80s): Wife of Leslie; stepmother of Steven and biological mother of Jasper; grandmother of Matt.

Ren Kanemaru (they/them; 53 y/o): Steven's childhood friend; former scout.

Valerie "Val" Durand (she/her; 54 y/o): Best friend of Steven and Ren, who they met after joining the Lord's Coven; former scout.

Petra Barany (she/her; mid 20s): Best friend and former assistant of Kiki.

That's about enough I think, I won't be including the rest here. One thing to note is that the Collector doesn't exist in this version.

And you may have also noticed that "Steve" is a little different. I created this version back when we only had one scene with Steve and had no idea he was going to get a face reveal and more canon info, and I just chose not to change the name after that happened. So Steve technically exists, but it's not canon Steve. They do have some similarities though.

THE STORY:

Back in the 1600s, Philip did not kill Caleb, and reluctantly gave the Boiling Isles a chance. Though resisting it at every turn, he ultimately fell in love with it. He developed the belief that uniting the two realms would be beneficial for both, combining the less dangerous climate of Earth with the more open and progressive culture of the Isles. After Caleb died in an accident during the search for one of the ingredients for the portal door, Philip only became more committed to the idea.

He began to do extensive research into magic, digging for as much information as he could find, which included looking into lost and forbidden magic. The latter is how he discovered both Grimwalkers and a way to extend one's life by consuming palismen. As he formed a coherent plan for how to enact his goal, he began trying out his messaging on small groups of witches to see what works, as well as testing out Coven sigils on the earliest ones until they worked as intended. He also took the name Belos and began to wear a mask.

Slightly over 50 years ago he took power as the Lord of the Boiling Isles, becoming the chief religious figure and a sort of constitutional monarch, with his fourth Grimwalker nephew, Anthony, by his side as the Golden Guard. There was an elected government responsible for things like deciding on budgets and passing legislation unrelated to the Coven System, however Belos had ultimate authority and could override any decision. He largely stayed out of their affairs unless he thought what they were doing would undermine his ultimate goal.

However, his plan to unite the realms was doomed from the start. When he attempted to do it on the Day of Unity, it went horribly wrong and shattered his hopes. The Unification Spell didn't work and was simply draining people of magic. It ended abruptly once Belos's staff, through which the spell was channeled, exploded. He, Hunter and the Hexsquad barely escaped the blast by leaving through the portal door. They ended up stuck in the Human Realm for a time, before finding the same way back as they did in canon.

Belos publicly admitted that he had lied about speaking to the Titan, and that the plan to unite the realms was his own doomed idea. He apologized and resigned, with Steven, Hunter and Kiki following him. The Coven System was abolished, and the Isles became more of an actual democracy, without a single individual with ultimate authority being able to override the decisions of the elected government, which also became more transparent.

Belos helped with restoration efforts where damage had been caused on the Day of Unity, and he later took up palisman carving and caring for palismen in general to make up for consuming them to extend his own life. He also released many palismen souls that were previously trapped inside him, and is now aging at a more regular pace. Though some remain, in part because they have fused with his curse - he was cursed long ago, in a similar way to Eda, and his curse is a wolfcat. Both conditions have physically affected him, giving him scars, catlike pupils, sharp fangs, ability to purr, and making him much bigger than he was originally.

EXTRA:

spirituality on the Isles

Belos didn't invent a religion from scratch, but rather built on and expanded - or, to put it more harshly, exploited - already existing spiritual beliefs related to the Titan in order to achieve his goal of uniting the realms.

Before Belos, the Titan was rarely (if ever) viewed as a higher authority who, through messengers, gave witches rules to live by. He was mainly seen and respected as the origin of the Isles and all life on it. People thanked him for their existence, their magic, their harvests, etc. and payed tribute to him, but that was largely it. The prevalence of spirituality/religion has gone down over time.

Belos's rise to power with the claim of him being "the Titan's messenger" caused a resurgence of spirituality/religiosity, with him being seen as the authority on the matter by his followers. It has declined again once it was revealed that he hadn't actually spoken to the Titan.

glyphs

They were in frequent use by ancient witches, in part due to them having weaker natural magic and having to rely more on magical tools than modern witches. Over time, they fell out of common use and were limited to specific spiritual/religious rituals, and then only became more rare over time.

Disabled witches who had weak or no natural magic would simply rely on their staffs, due to which they wouldn't rediscover glyphs out of necessity. On top of that, when knowledge of glyphs was still more common, it may have been taboo to use them for non-spiritual/religious purposes.

Covens

There have been a number of different Coven systems throughout history. Some Covens were based around familial ties, some were based around what kinds of magic people specialized in, some were simply regional, etc. Though sigils had not been used before, and it was possible to move between Covens, with the level of difficulty depending on the type of Covens in question. Whether it was legal to be Covenless may have varied as well, with it being illegal in some places at some points in time. When Belos rose to power, he chose to use the specialization-based model of Covens to sort people into.

With Belos's system gone, the concept of Covens wasn't completely abandoned, but rather became non-official and based on voluntary participation, as opposed to a legally mandated system that also restricted what types of magic people could use.

the structure of Belos's government

As mentioned previously, it was a sort of constitutional monarchy. Belos was the Lord of the Boiling Isles, it's main religious figure and ultimate authority, but there was an elected government, responsible for things like budgets and passing legislation. Belos could override any decision they made.

The Head Witches of the main nine Covens were originally appointed by Belos alone, but after Terra turned out to be a disastrous choice and had to be pushed out, he handed the appointment process over to the elected government, and would now simply confirm or deny their appointments. Those officials could be bribed, though, to appoint someone who shouldn't necessarily hold a position of power, like Adrian. Belos tried to keep an eye on such issues - or more so tasked others with doing so, but some still slipped through.

The Lord's Coven was a separate branch of government, entirely under Belos's control, though he tended to be somewhat reclusive, so day-to-day coordination and such was largely handled by other high-ranking members of the Coven.

The top leadership originally consisted of three positions: the Lord (Belos), the Secretary (first Winston, later Kiki) and the Golden Guard (first Anthony, later Hunter). The third position was later split into two, the Golden Guard and the Head of the Lord's Coven (first Lilith, later Steven), with the latter taking on some of the former's responsibilities, which allowed Belos to keep Hunter in the castle more for his safety.

The Lord's Coven was the Isles' military, and they performed other tasks and missions for Belos as well, such as finding abandoned palismen for him to consume as "medicine" - something he agreed was unfortunate, and claimed he was looking for an alternative to - and searching for Titan's Blood. Regular law enforcement was typically done by members of other Covens, though some scouts, mostly newer ones, could get the assignment. Usually, experienced scouts were only brought in for emergencies, or to deal with particularly powerful criminals.

the basilisks

The basilisks were not tortured and were generally treated better than in canon, but they were made to do things they didn't like, and were still kept in captivity, in part out of concern that they'd start attacking people if released out in the wild, and they were unhappy with their lives, so they still escaped.

The basilisk that attacked the schools in season 1 had always had behavior problems, possibly a combination of being the earliest and thus least correctly created, as well as being mishandled by those responsible for their care. They have since been treated, and are no longer dangerous.

Vee had complicated feelings about Belos, but was not terrified of him when she saw him in the Human Realm, especially once he made it clear he had no intention of forcing her to return to captivity.

Special Notes:

I have no idea what to do with Devdan/Danved. They say they aren't the same character, but they kind of are, but they have different names. So are they palette swaps, or are they the same character with a different name and a palette swap? I would usually just exclude them, but they're playable so that feels like it should hold more weight. And then I was like. Screw it we'll just put both on there whatever.

There are some characters who, for spoiler purposes, technically have two different names and/or portraits. For simplicity sake I just picked one portrait/name to use for them.

All characters use their Radiant Dawn appearances (where applicable). Assume the characters are Radiant Dawn age and appearance if they appear there.

*I have played the Tellius games, but I haven't seen absolutely everything. I'm doing my best here. If there's a character on here who you think should be excluded just shoot me an ask or something with your reasoning and we can DQ them if necessary. Please actually send me an ask or DM with actual reasoning, don't just leave a snarky comment with no details and expect me to know what you expect to see.

EoaFH the Rinnen Cut

This is a scene from chapter fifteen of Elegy of a Forgotten Heir containing the fan favorite character Rinnen. I wanted to post this separately so her many fans the world over could enjoy one of her scenes without having to go through a really long fic with a lot of content warnings just to see her.

I do worry how much sense this will make without the context provided by the overarching story so I’ve included some small elaborations and a very brief summary, also this scene does contain some spoilers for the fic due to it taking place over 60k words in.

But without further ado it is Rinnening time below the cut and I hope you enjoy!

Elegy of a Forgotten Heir is an au retelling of Radiant Dawn from the lens of Petrine barely surviving Riven Bridge and becoming an integral part of the Dawn Brigade. It also includes a pretty extensive prologue giving her an actual backstory as a bastard daughter of the Crimean royal family (Ramon and Renning/Bertram’s half sister, not Elincia’s generation) and the first orphan Volke took in.

Also she and Micaiah have a thing, a weird codependent toxic thing.

If this sounds interesting to you please be mindful of the content and trigger warnings I gave to the chapters on their tumblr posts as well as the tags on Ao3. This has been a very viscerally dark story so far, that said there are no major warnings for the scene in this post.

(Larabel’s, a brothel run by Anna in Nevassa that serves as a front for an information and spy ring. Rinnen ended up becoming one of Anna’s agents, primarily an enforcer, in the aftermath of the war and she serves as Volke and Tormod’s main contact within the ring.)

(Samina, Bryce’s mother and King Ashnard’s physician. She was the one who kept Petrine alive for two years in the aftermath of Riven Bridge, though her wounds were so severe she wasn’t able to recover past simply delaying the inevitable until Micaiah’s eventual use of Sacrifice.)

Rinnen

Rinnen stuck out like a sore thumb in her lily-white bishop's robes. Shedding them in an alleyway, she carefully sorted through the thin chains that sat on her hip. 

"Piss off, gutter trash." A man sneered as she strolled into the bar.

Rinnen snarled at the man, briefly flashing a stiletto before pushing past him to join Volke at the counter.

"You shouldn't make such a scene, little red." He murmured, sliding his tankard down the bar her way before setting a stack of cards next to her.

"You know I'm not as good at subterfuge or defusal as you, old man." Rinnen replied, her blue eyes warming with delight upon inspecting the stack of reaper cards. She swiveled in the stool, glancing at him. He looked the same, right down to the tired eyes. "How are things going in Crimea?" 

The Fireman flicked his maroon eyes in her direction, and waited for the barkeep to pass.

"Not well, Rinnen. The nobility seems primed to revolt against the newly crowned Royal.” He explained impassively. “And Daein?" 

Rinnen pocketed the reaper cards, and slid a marked coin across the bar. Tossing her long red locks over her small shoulders, she leaned forward.

"The occupation army is committing abuses on a mass scale. I've evacuated most of your orphanages to remote regions, and ensured the safety of the remaining residents of Palmeni." She whispered. Her hand briefly brushed over his, just a whisper touch as she sipped from his tankard.

"And Sella?" He muttered. Their eyes locked in silence again, and Rinnen hesitated.

"Samina is gone. I'm sorry, Volke." Rinnen whispered.

She saw it in his jaded eyes for the briefest moment. Pain, insurmountable, and a horrific flash of grief.

"Is the village okay?" He murmured, lighting a pipe. She smelled the mint, and tobacco, and closed her icy eyes.

"Yeah. By the time I got there, grandma had already been buried. Right next to my father. After I unleashed my grief, I went looking for answers. The Begnion were all but slaughtered, Volke. The villagers talked about an injured woman who fought like 3 devils, and a saint. I couldn't get much from them... something about blades of light, and rebels." Rinnen muttered, twisting a few chains around her hand in a rare sign of nervousness. "It's likely they were the Dawn Brigade. We've been in contact with them, well Anna has. I meant to visit you sooner.... I'm sorry." 

Volke shook his head.

"Samina would be happy you didn't mix yourself up in it. How is Larabel's?" He murmured gently, his grief obviously softening his tone.

Rinnen signaled for another drink, and grinned.

"Profitable as always. You should visit Anna. I'm sure she has a contract or two for you." She chuckled.

"I'm already under a job." Volke muttered, shaking his head.

"Well, I'm about to set off on a new contract. Gotta get word to the Laguz Liberatore from another one of your kids." Rinnen grumbled as she stood up, laying her hand on the old man’s shoulder.

"Be careful, Rinnen. You're the last in a bloodline of brilliance." He murmured, seemingly amused at her willingness to give out information.

"If I see any more of your 'projects', you want me to say anything to her?" Rinnen chuckled at the brief flash of anger in those old eyes, holding her hands up in mock surrender. "Sorry old man. I told you I have no ability for defusal." 

She felt a bit sad, to leave him alone in a bar. But at the same time, they both had jobs to do.

Seriously. It's awesome. I used to live with a bunch of siblings who were (usually) into the same fandoms as I was, and truly did not know what I had until it was gone. The FUN. The DRAMA. The RIDICULOUS HEAD CANONS. The UTTER SILLINESS that was had. I miss it so much. So I'm reminiscing, and thought y'all might enjoy a peek into some of the tidbits from those old stories, specifically the Tellius ones.... (spoilers possible)

One time Izuka basically invented a time machine potion and the senators tested it on Jarod. He promptly went back to pre-PoR Daein and adopted smol street urchin Petrine, and got into mischief with several members of what would later be the Dawn Brigade, and also went back to the flood era and played around with the Three Heroes, and got into all kinds of other shenanigans

Nealuchi is, for reasons unknown, highly suspicious of anybody with green hair whose name starts with "S". Soren, Sothe, Stefan, all of them are untrustworthy. But also Kurthnaga, because for some reason Nealuchi believes his true identity is the long-lost Princess Sarsaparilla

Rajaion repeatedly Darth Mauled his way out of the grave and got into hijinks, mostly with Bertram/Renning. One time he got Ashera to un-stone everybody by literally just asking politely

Event story - Chapter 6 (Grateful Days)

Emma is sent off by the members at Tokohana so that she can continue her walk around the park. She notices how all the guests look happy, and that this festival really is amazing.

Crow, flying?: Hey, Emma!

He gets off the (flying??) car together with Lagoon (apparently it’s a car they use for tours of the park), who asks her if she’s having fun. Crow notices that her throat sounds a bit sore, and asks her if she’s feeling unwell. She answers she’s fine, she just talked a bit too much. After all, she ended up working and helping everyone here and there. It’s very much like her, says Crow.

Lagoon: Still, we also have to make sure that the young lady here has fun too, right? Is there any place you’d like to see? I’ll take you there with the car.

Emma: Wah, really?! Thank you so much!! (Note: shes so happy eheh)

Game area. Crow and Emma are seen playing a game against Cinis. The latter obviously wins, but Crow doesn’t know when to give up and asks for a rematch. Welck suggests that Cinis takes it a bit more easy, after all what’s most important is that Emma has fun. He refuses, saying that facing off against her at full power is his way of thanking her.

After leaving the Game area, they visit the Machine area where one can enjoy different types of machines, and the Fairy Tent, where it is possible to watch various shows.

Crow: Where do you want to go next?

Emma asks Lagoon to stop the car for a bit. She gets off the car and meets Cyrus and Emilio, thanking them for their hard work, saying that she can enjoy herself without worries thanks to everyone at Chevalier. Still, she hopes that the two of them can also take it a bit more easy. Cyrus says that since there’s many public figures and dignitaries, they have to make sure nothing goes wrong. Emilio agrees, though he’d love to have fun with Emma. After all, seeing Emma’s smile is enough, states Cyrus.

Emilio: Nice words, Cyrus. Did you graduate from being a bad talker?

Cyrus: …Don’t make fun of me.

Later, she goes back to the car, until she hears Kent calling out to her. He gets scolded by Suzuka for being so loud. Victor is also there, and he invites Emma over to their area for later; he prompts Ren to say something too, aka if she doesn’t want to come, to at least bring someone else (yk, so that they dont miss a client. Ren pls….🙄). Looking out from the car window, Emma can see all her friends, coworkers and acquaintances. Her smiles makes her happy, and she wonders whether her work is one of the reasons behind their happiness. Suddenly, the central hotel catches her eye.

flashback: Adel told her to come to the central hotel when she had a spare moment.

Central hotel. The place is huge, and apparently Velvet is having a theatre built inside the hotel, and he wishes to open it to the public very soon. Adel appears, sighing. She apologises for being late, though he figures that it’s not really her fault anyway, but the other Meisters’. Though it is of utmost importance that she has spent a delightful time, he will need to put up with him for a little while now. He takes her by the hand and leads her to a hotel room that has will be put to use for his work. Before he can explain, Jin appears again, whimpering and moaning (again) and pretty much repeating the loss of control scene from chapter 3. Adel yanks him away from Emma and slams the door in his face (lol).

Adel: Until what needs to be done is done, don’t you dare get out of there.

Adel gives a signal, and a lady standing next to Emma, starts taking her measures with a tape in hand. He refuses to tell her anything, and just focuses her gaze on her, making her blush. To fight the embarrassment she asks him how the Royal Area is faring. It’s a success: Volks is handling all the important guests, whereas Bezer is assigned to monitor the slacking-off Canaan; in particular, Merry Rose is doing really well with customer service. Still, they’re craftsmen, so giving it their all, to the best of their abilities, is totally normal to them. And yet, he is aware that Emma’s presence is essential to him.

Emma, blushing: A-Adel-san—

Adel: I. Told. You. To. Not. Move.

At first, he looks at her with a harsh glare, but then it melts into a softer one, making Emma’s heart go all crazy.

Tatsue tries yet more eyes. XD  These handmade Pool Eyes are acrylic, the nicest I have seen yet: the domes are clear and glassy, and the irises have nice detail and pearlescent shimmer.  All the available pairs of eyes are photographed and individually labelled, so the pair you choose is the exact pair you get.  I bought three pairs to test out, and decided to keep this greeny-blue pair for my boy (the other two pairs are for sale).

After Micchi, poor Tatsue is probably the most yellowed of all my dolls. ;_;  I think I should give him a good clean next year, maybe refresh his face-up (still the original SDC Ren face-up!) depending on how much of the yellowing is his coating rather than his resin, and possibly get him a more slender body - the Volks MSD body works fine, but the neck is slightly thick for the SDC head, and I always imagined him to be on the slimmer side (although it’s true that stockier bodies fill out kimono and yukata better).

Yay, Eyes!

The vintage eyes I ordered for Mako came today and...holy crap, I think we have a winner:

They’re so, so, so beautiful, and exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s hard to clearly show the detailing of her eyes but they have the most subtle pattern and the perfect amount of warmth and depth, they’re the most accurate brown doll eyes I’ve ever seen tbh. I’m usually not a fan of glass eyes and prefer urethane or acrylics, but these vintage eyes are probably my favorites out of any other eyes that I own.  Like??

Gorgeous.  Lumi’s came today too and I really love them. I think they’re actually the exact same pattern as her stock eyes, but they’re a warmer blue and they look beautiful:

She looks so refreshed with her new wig and eyes! No matter how many resins I own, Lumi will always be my #1. She’s still wearing her stock dress, which I ‘aged’ with boiled coffee and crinkled together so it would look old.   Also Mika got reassembled today, with KIPS in her neck and shoulders:

Definitely an upgrade, I can finally pose her neck and make her look a little more composed than she did before. Sadly I strung her too tight so I’ll have to redo it later, she’s very kicky lol Still waiting on her MakoEyes to show up but these are ok for now.

EDIT: I realized there was a slight oversight in the qualifier and I forgot Altina. We're holding a vote about that here

So obviously the men's bracket, being a 64 bracket instead of the usual 16 or 32, is quite a bit larger than usual. A 32 women's bracket is also quite a bit larger than most FE games. I thought it might be a bit much to post 48 polls on the first day of the bracket (32 matchups for the men and then an additional 16 for the women). So I figured I had two options: either split the men's bracket into smaller chunks so it can run alongside the women's bracket (so round 1 part 1 for the men and then just round 2 for the women), or hold the women's bracket back for an extra week

I chose the latter, mostly because splitting the men's poll would have mostly served to extend the time spent on it even further. Plus I think it's a lot more fun to have our finale for the men and the women at the same time, as opposed to having the women finish a week early and have to wait for the men. So sorry Tellius lady lovers (believe me I'm suffering too). I will, of course, still be accepting propaganda for the ladies during this time. I'm posting the women's bracket here too so you can see the match ups ahead of time

Anyway, additional notes:

*So when I separated out Devdan/Danved for the qualifier I kind of expected one or neither of them to make the bracket. Turns out they both wound up on the bracket. So that's my bad, probably should have anticipated that. I couldn't justify taking a slot up twice for what is by all appearances exactly the same character, so I rolled them together.
