Humility - Virtues at Work
Waterwheel at Onden, 1830-1834 by Katsushika Hokusai “A virtue by which a man knowing himself as he truly is, abases himself.” St. Bernard What is Humility? Humility is a virtue that tempers our desires for good things, so that we aim at the right ends with noble and pure motivation shorn of egoism and self-seeking. It comes from the root word ‘humus’, which means to be low to the ground. The…

Also it's fucked up to yell at members of marginalized communities for acting within the two party system and not burning it all down when you don't have a plan. People are not your fucking sacrificial lambs to skewer and roast on a stick

There has been some debate out there regarding what type of angel Crowley was before the fall. Some have speculated that he was a minor angel, that knew a bit of this and that, which is what landed him in the spot that he is in right now.
After a bit of research, I have come to the conclusion that Crowley was a Virtue. Everything that I have read points to him being, at one point, in the Third Tier in angel hierarchy, with Powers and Dominions. This actually puts him above Aziraphale, in which he is a Principality.
Let's delve into what a Virtue does in the grand scheme of things. One of their primary goals is, well, to run the universe, control the elements, seasons and command storms. But also, they assist in making miracles for HER, a bit on that part later.
When see Crowley, he is sent to start the universe, this is his role as Virtue. But he not only starts the engine, he oversees the entirety of it, the planets, stars, everything. That is why he so upset when he was told that it all has to be destroyed, he was the one, or at least part, that helped create it and supposed to maintain it.
We see him here, manipulating rain to make Maggie and Nina get together, the "dawn of a new awing" , as he said. He hasn't controlled the weather in a long time, but it comes back to him naturally. This is because that is part of who he is and what he does.
Finally, the miracle to hide Gabriel. Aziraphale suggests, half a miracle from each would be fine, so Crowley goes along with it. I think the mistake was that I don't think Crowley is capable of doing just half a miracle. Yes, we have seen him do minor things, but what they are attempting is out of the ordinary. Aziraphale is able to do his half miracle, but I don't think Crowley is wired to do that. I thought for the longest time it went wrong because there were under the symbol that Aziraphale uses to contact the Metraton, but now, looking over this, I think it was because Crowley was a Virtue Angel. Part of their role is to help create miracles for HER, a direct mandate from HER to do this, so yea, SHE isn't doing any half miracles for humankind.
I also think that it puts into perspective how close to HER he was, since we know how much his "sauntered" from grace affected him. He was part of the engine, and was supposed to be its caretaker, if I am correct in his being a Virtue, I am truly saddened because they took away one of things that he cared for, the universe. For all I know I am way off base with this, but it has been fun seeing where this lead me and adding to the other theories out there.

Honest question: where is all this "bad" bisexual representation on network tv that people keep referring to? Like, I understand that there are stereotypes that people believe could be reinforced with particular representations, but I keep seeing the implication that bad rep already exists and is constantly reinforced on network tv. And just. I actually can only think of two single bisexual characters from network shows off the top of my head, and I don't believe either were represented poorly. Neither were constantly sleeping around, they weren't framed as indecisive, I believe both were generally shown as monogamous and interested in long-term relationships, regardless of the gender of their partners (as an aside, I don't think any of these things would have made them bad rep, but these are the "bad" stereotypes I see discussed most often).
So like, have I just missed a bunch of representation? (Totally possible, honestly.) Because this narrative that all bisexual rep has been bad is a weird one to me.
And I mean, I would generally argue that queer rep on network television is overly sanitized and kind of obnoxiously heteronormative in an attempt to make it "acceptable" for a general audience. But I don't think that's what people are referring to, and it's honestly a little disheartening to see fellow queer people arguing for these overly sanitized representations to appease non-queer audiences. Queer rep does not (and should not) mean all queer characters adhere to an acceptable heteronormative standard (one that heterosexual characters are NOT beholden to, by the way) in order to be considered worth of representation, and trying to pretend like all queer rep must uphold "good" moral standards to make it palatable so that bigoted people accept queerness if it's done the "right" way is not helpful to the community, actually.
#i'm feeling frustrated with this narrative today#i honestly thought we had started moving past this#but the way these weird moral crusades and virtue signaling within the community that's caught on in the last decade or so online#has done some real damage to the community i think#911 discourse#i guess#because that is where the immediate frustration is coming from#but honestly i think this is a much larger problem#especially in fandom as a larger culture#there is so much theory on this from literal decades ago and yet here we are in this same damn loop it never ends

Little Burning Spice Cookie rant thing.
So, I've seen a bit about people thinking that Burning Spice Cookie's reason for going rouge was kind of... Not it, really? Which is fine and dandy, their opinion an all.
But to me, I think it's a pretty solid reason for Burning Spice Cookie and like... Characters like him, I suppose?
Okay so, Burning Spice Cookie held the Light of Change before it was taken from him and he was imprisoned and, like the other 4 Beasts before their fall, they represented and were practically the physical embodiments of those concepts (I think.)
To be honest, out of each of the Beasts I genuinely think that Burning Spice Cookie's concept was the most ironic, and the one most prone to, well, 'failure' for a lack of a better word.
(Though if I'm wrong, lemme know.)
Knowledge, Volition, Happiness, and Solidarity are all concepts that are prone to change.
Knowledge. Pretty self-explanatory, with anything new that is discovered, or prior knowledge viewed from a different angle, then that knowledge in itself would change.
Volition. Kind of difficult for me to explain but like, one's willpower could either crumble and fade or hardened and become stronger than ever. You could remain true to your own will, or submit to another's. Thus, change.
Happiness. Anything can make it happen, across various individuals the same or something different can make them happy. Or, the opposite, what once made them happy no longer does, thus changing.
Solidarity. People can no long believe in the same thing, what once brought them together in unity could no longer be enough to uphold it. A common interest that they no longer support, thus changing their views on the subject and no longer being in solidarity with others.
To me, all of the other Beasts before the fall where capable of changing, as the concepts they were meant to embody were all given the range to.
Except, Burning Spice Cookie.
He was the only one, the only Beast, that was supposed to be unchanging. Despite his very concept being that of change. Ironically, Burning Spice Cookie would have been the only one who was to remain steadfast, unchanging throughout history entirely despite everything else changing around him.
Stagnant.
The pure opposite of what he meant, made to embody.
So, of course, he got bored.
Burning Spice Cookie, despite representing change, was stagnant. Meant to always be stagnant if the Light of Change was always to remain true, to shine its light upon him and the entire world.
I do believe his boredom ran a bit deeper than surface level. As he did say in Episode 6:
"All this Change, and yet it's never changing."
Which, really, just supports my point that Burning Spice Cookie, the representation of Change itself. Was stagnant and unchanging despite change happening all around him.
So, when he was given the opportunity to Change. To no longer remain stagnant. I think it would have been expected that he would take it.
Burning Spice Cookie was baked to be a hero, a God-Like virtue that would be a beacon among Cookie Kind along with four others. To protect and allow them change, civilizations to rise and fall and yet, he, himself, would remain unchanging, should remain unchanging if his purpose was to be realized.
That, is why, I believe that Burning Spice Cookie, or any other Cookie baked to hold the Light of Change, was and would be doomed to fall. To fail.
#burning spice cookie#crk kingdom#crk#beast cookies#Maybe a bit of a theory idk#But it's just kind of the problem with Burning Spice Cookie's entire purpose y'know?#Since he was baked to be a hero for all right off the bat#It was the single starting point that would doom him#Giving the representation of Change a purpose without letting them find such themselves would lead to their doom in my opinion#Because then that would limit them#Leave them unable to change because this was their purpose and they can't#Shouldn't#Stray from it#I know the other Beasts and their backstories aren't out yet but#I believe Burning Spice Cookie to be the Beast that was done the most dirty by the Witches despite their good intentions#The other four Beasts could have twisted and fallen from their Virtues because of Cookies#But Burning Spice Cookie?#Yea#He was set on the path of failure and doomed to fail from the very start as soon as the Witches gave him the purpose of being a hero#Instead of letting him find his own himself#No matter their good intentions#Oh damn I'm ranting in the tags now#GoODBYE

When people describe Arya being forced into situations where she literally has to fight for her life as her "choosing violence"
#arya stark#asoiaf#valyrianscrolls#then when they praise a character who has never been in a comparable situation for /keeping their morals/#like oh? not being in a tough situation without any protection is a virtue now? 😭#this idea where people treat politicking as the ultimate skill that can get you out of any situation if you're smart enough needs to end#and it truly comes from nowhere cause Varys + LF (arguably the most political characters) both rely on violence to achieve their goals#this fandom's /nuanced/ takes are literally just them dumbing down the story and sucking out any complexity and it's so boring#but that's what happens when you create theories to center a specific character instead of them coming organically from the story 🤷🏾♀️#their dislike of Arya is so obvious because they obsessively erase the traits they covet from her character😭#meanwhile a majority of the male leaders in asoiaf are also warriors but somehow Arya being considered a warrior (which she isn't)#means she can't be political or a leader...smells like misogyny

oh, i figured out aya's skill.
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#bsd aya#ngl this like is making me lose my mind because she's had one this entire time#and it's so fucking obvious in retrospect#but was like. was introduced. slowly. it was not really obvious at first. but you can look back and see how it's present even in the ova.#anyway i don't mean to tease but i wrote out about a third of the theory and then started cracking open other parts of the story with sarah#and now i'm exhausted so i'm going to sleep#but i am certain. like there is no doubt in my mind. that i know what aya's skill is. it fits textually and metatextually#and explains a cryptic comment asagiri made in an interview.#where he said watch aya. like. most of what's been incredible has been obvious.#but no. you can see her skill. and it's SUCH a love letter to aya koda.#in a way i was worried he wouldn't pull off. because it felt like her skill was going to manifest from the stress. and it would be like op.#which isn't. who she was. she was a subtler sort of brilliant. one who exemplified virtue. and this skill is so. it's so good. it's fitting#it also explains akutagawa's dragon outfit.#like. there are a lot of theories i've had that are theories. this is not one of them. we might get the confirmation next chapter.#unfortunately i will need to lay out some confucian concepts for it to make sense. hence why i'm saving this for later. but i'm.#asagiri is insane i want to pick his brain and also follow him around like mary magdalene and learn from him.

I get that people dislike the fandom characterization of miles g as some aggressive thug (I despise it) but sometimes I think people over-correct by saying that they are the EXACT same person. I’m sorry but no, not only does that not back up what kemp powers said about miles g being a bit “rougher around the edges” than our miles, It’s also really boring from a narrative standpoint.
What’s the point of creating the a version of your MC that came from radically different circumstances if nothing about them changes? It’s a nature vs nurture thing. Miles g is supposed to make you and Miles ask if his role as Spider-Man was destined, or if it was just some fluke that stopped him from turning out like his uncle.
#spiderverse#across the spiderverse#atsv#miles morales#miles g morales#prowler miles#obviously it’s the former bc even in a world where he didn’t become a Spider-Man hes still a vigilante#meaning that ‘the mask’ is essentially inconsequential to heroism because helping others is an innate virtue#which calls back to MJs speech at RIPeters funeral abt peter saying it could’ve been anyone under the mask#he just happened to be the guy who got bit#I dont like the fan theory that 1610 and 42 swapped places for this reason bcs it shows a lack of understanding abt who miles is#and the storys stance on what is means to be a hero

If the Heavenly Virtues ever make an appearance in Hazbin Hotel, it’d be interesting if it turned out that Luicfer was once the Virtue of Humility before his fall
This is assuming the Sins aren’t all fallen angels as well, and were actually demons from the start, making Lucifer the only one of them that was also a Virtue at one point
