The Philosophy of Social Media
The philosophy of social media examines the profound impact of social media platforms on human interaction, identity, and society. This interdisciplinary field intersects with ethics, epistemology, sociology, and media studies, exploring how digital technologies shape our communication, perceptions, and behaviors. By analyzing the philosophical implications of social media, we gain insights into the nature of digital life and its influence on contemporary society.
Key Themes in the Philosophy of Social Media
Digital Identity and Self-Presentation:
Social media allows users to construct and curate their online personas, raising questions about authenticity, self-expression, and the nature of identity.
Philosophers explore how the digital environment influences self-perception and the distinction between online and offline selves.
Epistemology and Information:
The spread of information and misinformation on social media platforms presents challenges to traditional epistemology.
Discussions focus on the credibility of sources, the role of algorithms in shaping information, and the impact of echo chambers on knowledge and belief formation.
Ethics of Communication and Behavior:
The ethical implications of online behavior, including issues of privacy, cyberbullying, and digital harassment, are central to this field.
Philosophers examine the moral responsibilities of individuals and platforms in fostering respectful and ethical online interactions.
Social Media and Society:
Social media's role in shaping public discourse, political engagement, and social movements is a significant area of inquiry.
The influence of social media on democracy, public opinion, and collective action is critically analyzed.
Privacy and Surveillance:
The balance between privacy and surveillance on social media platforms raises important ethical and philosophical questions.
The implications of data collection, user tracking, and digital surveillance on personal freedom and autonomy are explored.
The Nature of Virtual Communities:
Social media creates new forms of community and social interaction, prompting philosophical inquiries into the nature and value of virtual communities.
The concepts of digital solidarity, community building, and the social dynamics of online interactions are examined.
Aesthetics of Social Media:
The visual and aesthetic dimensions of social media, including the impact of images, videos, and memes, are considered.
Philosophers analyze how aesthetic choices and digital art forms influence perception and communication in the digital age.
Addiction and Mental Health:
The psychological effects of social media use, including addiction, anxiety, and the impact on mental health, are significant areas of study.
Philosophers explore the ethical considerations of designing platforms that may contribute to addictive behaviors.
Algorithmic Bias and Justice:
The role of algorithms in shaping social media experiences raises questions about bias, fairness, and justice.
Philosophers critically assess the implications of algorithmic decision-making and its impact on social equality and discrimination.
Commercialization and Consumerism:
The commercialization of social media platforms and the commodification of user data are key concerns.
Discussions focus on the ethical implications of targeted advertising, consumer manipulation, and the economic dynamics of social media companies.
The philosophy of social media provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the complexities of digital interaction and its impact on contemporary life. By examining issues of identity, epistemology, ethics, and societal influence, this field offers valuable insights into the ways social media shapes our world. It encourages a critical and reflective approach to digital life, emphasizing the need for ethical considerations and responsible use of technology.

i really do think there’s a huge disconnect on here w/ people who have never used tiktok as to what it actually is and who actually uses it. the number of people i’ve seen call it a “teen dancing app” is actually insane. it has not been a teen dancing app since i was in high school, around 2016 - 2020. the main communities i saw on a daily basis were 1) black history/anti-racism educators, 2) high school & college teachers sharing in-classroom strategies and frustrations with the education system, 3) local/state political leaders giving real-time updates on behind-the-scenes government decisions, & 4) community activism & leadership. like tiktok is an adult platform. almost every person i interacted with was my age or older. and yes it completely depends on your fyp and how you interact with the app, yes there’s still teenagers and dance videos and literally anything else you can think of. but these communities of adults aren’t insubstantial at all, they have literally millions of interactions on a daily basis. there’s about a million other types of communities that i could name just off the top of my head, because the range of users was SO diverse and thriving. it’s a long-distance community tool, just like any other social media—and honestly much better than any other social media, because it relies primarily on the kindness of strangers. i saw at least 5-10 videos today of queer people in rural areas panicking because they don’t have any access to queer community on any other platform or in real life. and before i end this i do want to say i think tiktok is coming back, i think this is a highly orchestrated political move, etc., but i do know it won’t ever be exactly the same. people are panicking about free speech violations because tiktok was a place where people fucking SPEAK. i have never seen mass mobilization and communication in this same way for as long as i’ve been alive. it is the people’s app, not just a silly teenage thing. if you’re not on tiktok and never have been, please stop talking about it like you know anything at all😭

WHAT TO BELIEVE?
Tumblr media
there's ALOT of information out here on manifesting, and how different components play part in it. but sometimes, you'd see that two posts (sometimes slightly) clash each other. as in 3D is real or not, us being the creator vs us asking the universe/GOD, the inner man and outer man being separate beings or one, so on and so forth.
if you're someone like me whose easily influenced by others opinions, listen here. when I saw these different beliefs out there, I was puzzled. seeing a post about 3D being "not real", I would think, "yeah, it's not real". but then, some other post would say that it is infact real and I would go, "oh, what? oh okay. then it's real ig".
I was COMPLETELY confused. so, I thought to myself, "what should I believe?", and if you're thinking the same, then the simple answer is yourself. none of the people putting their beliefs out here are wrong, because that's THEIR belief, and they stick to that. if someone thinks 3D is real, then it is for them, because that's what they believe, and vice versa. so what YOU need to do, after reading all these opinions and takes of different people on the same topic, is putting your phone down and sitting with yourself for a moment. think about all these different opinions that you've read about. which one's do you think align with you? which ones do you feel comfortable with? oh, you think 3D is not real, and only 4D is real because you're a spiritual being in essence and 3D (time, space, etc) is all at a lower place than you're at? amazing, that's absolutely true. you think 3D is real because you're real, and you're perceiving it? yes, yes, yes. you're absolutely right again.
Tumblr media
the point is to take what resonates and aligns with YOUR beliefs, instead of aligning yourself with someone else's beliefs. everyone is right. pick YOUR right.

— How to feel your desire in a natural way even if it seems unlikely?
Tumblr media
Feeling the desire as something natural, even if it seems unlikely, is a matter of adjusting your mind and emotions to believe that it is already part of your reality. Here are practical steps to help with this process:
1. Reframe the Desire as Something Ordinary
• Start by changing your perception of the desire. Imagine that “winning $25k” or “being with your SP” is as normal as everyday things, like receiving a text message or finding money in your pocket.
• Tell yourself: “This is easy and natural. Many people have this, so I can have it too.”
2. Visualize Simple and Repeatedly
• Instead of imagining big events, visualize simple scenes that would already be natural after having the desire.
• For example, for manifest $25k:
• Imagine yourself opening your bank app and checking your balance.
• Visualize yourself smiling and thinking: “I knew this would happen.”
• For manifest your SP:
• Imagine a casual conversation or a loving message. • Feel comfortable in his/her company, as if it were something routine.
3. Use the Power of Gratitude
• Gratitude helps make any desire feel natural because you act as if you have already received it.
• Tell yourself:
• “I am so grateful to have $25k in my account. It came so easily!”
• “I am so happy to be in an amazing relationship with my SP. It is perfect!”
4. Affirm That It Is Already Yours
• Affirmations help convince your subconscious mind that the desire is already part of your reality.
• For the $25k:
• “Money always comes easily to me.”
• “I am naturally prosperous and wealthy.”
• For the SP:
• “I am loved and desired just as I am.”
• “Our relationship is harmonious and happy.”
Repeat these affirmations until they begin to ring true and normal.
5. Create Familiarity
• The mind finds unfamiliar things strange, so make the desire familiar:
• Watch videos of people who have what you want (but without envy, just to inspire).
• Pretend that it is already part of your daily life.
• For the SP, remember that he/she is already thinking about you and imagine this calmly.
6. Practice SATS
• Before going to sleep, enter a relaxed state (SATS) and imagine that the desire has already been fulfilled:
• For the $25k, visualize yourself buying something or transferring the money.
• For the SP, imagine an intimate moment together, such as holding hands or smiling.
Enter the feeling of happiness and naturalness. Make this a habit.
7. Let Go of the Desire
• Trust that the desire is already yours and do not obsess. Acting with “desperation” or “urgency” reinforces the idea that you do not yet have it. • Remind yourself: “If I already had this, how would I feel? Relaxed, confident, and at peace.” Act from that state.
8. Neutralize Doubts
• When thoughts like “This is unlikely” arise, don’t fight them. Instead, say:
• “No matter what, I know it’s mine.”
• “The impossible happens for me every day.”
9. Do Small Tests
• Manifesting smaller things, like finding a coin, receiving a compliment, or receiving a specific sign, helps strengthen your faith.
• When you see it working for smaller things, it will be easier to believe it will work for the $25k or the SP.
10. Be Consistent and Have Patience
• Making desire natural takes time and practice, especially if it seems unlikely. Persistence is what turns your imagination into reality.
• Remember: the only thing that matters is your belief and your internal state.
If you persist in the state of “I already have it,” without worrying about the details of “how,” the desire will become natural and will inevitably be reflected in 3D. Trust the process!

I can't express how much I love the cafe scene. You see a really wide range of Lucanis' face animations and the cool things he expresses through them. Like, one moment, he's a shiny-eyed baby cow and the next his pupils are small, dark, and threatening. I would love to know *how* they did that. I'm not an animator, so it just looks like magic.
Too many screenshots under the cut.
