It has taken me years to track down the 1st edition ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ Anchor Bay DVD Deluxe Collector’s Edition full box set because I wasn’t going to purchase anything that wasn’t in New condition.
As in - unwrapped and unused.
TA DAAA! I finally have the 1st ever release DVDs of my most favourite TV show in the whole wide world.
Will I open them you ask?
They’re a collector’s item for a reason. They’ve been out of print since 2005. It’s extremely difficult to get them for a halfway decent price in New condition.
So no. I will never open them. But they will proudly sit in my bedroom where they can be admired by me.
But how do I know they work if I don’t open them?
I don’t. That’s true. But that doesn’t matter to me. If I want to watch the show, I can watch it from any of my other Xena box sets that are already ripped and synched to my Mac laptop, iPhone and Samsung TV. The whole point to getting this full box set is literally for the box sets. It wouldn’t make a difference to me if there was even anything inside them. I won’t need the actual DVDs. They’re just there to be a reminder of my love for Xena and the accomplishment of finally tracking down the 1st ever DVDs made of the show. All the bonus content from them I already have from my Madman/Viavision DVD box set that just copied everything from the Anchor Bay DVDs and called it something else under their own company instead.
Happy New Year to me indeed. 😁

Sinbad and the vizier of Marabia, followed by evil magician Koura, seek the three golden tablets that can gain them access to the ancient temple of the Oracle of All Knowledge.
  Director: Gordon Hessler
Writers: Brian Clemens (screenplay); Ray Harryhausen (story)
Producers: Ray Harryhausen, Charles H. Schneer
Music: Miklós Rózsa (as Miklos Rozsa)
Cinematography: Ted Moore (director of photography)
Visual effects:
Ray Harryhausen (creator of special visual effects)
Roy Field (special photographic effects) (uncredited)
Vic Margutti (special photographic effects) (uncredited)
Special effects:
Antonio Baquero (special effects) (uncredited)
Manuel Baquero (special effects) (uncredited)
Selected cast:
John Phillip Law as Sinbad
Tom Baker as Prince Koura
Caroline Munro as Margiana
Kurt Christian as Haroun
Martin Shaw as Rachid
Douglas Wilmer as the Grand Vizier of Marabia
Takis Emmanuel as Achmed (dubbed by Robert Rietti)
Grégoire Aslan as Hakim (billed as Gregoire Aslan)
David Garfield as Abdul (billed as John D. Garfield)
Aldo Sambrell as Omar
Robert Shaw as the Oracle of All Knowledge (uncredited)
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad features the stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen and Caroline Munro so no one should be surprised that it is Bill’s pick. In fact, Ray Harryhausen is his hero and this is the movie that made him fall in love with moviemaking. He’s poured over the Kali scene frame-by-frame, over and over. He still can’t believe how cool everything is and how great it looks, loving it then and loving it now.
Jeff also digs The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, calling it his favorite of the Harryhausen adventure movies. It’s a better movie overall in his view and he appreciates Tom Baker’s turn as the film’s villain. Watching The Golden Voyage of Sinbad had reawakened Doc’s love of these movies. The special effects are seamlessly melded into the story, the villain is cool, the creatures are fun, and it is such a good time.
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is currently available to stream from Tubi and various PPV sources. It’s also available on Blu-ray as a stand-alone or as part of Ray Harryhausen – The Ultimate 7 Film Collection, both from ViaVision Entertainment/Madman/Columbia Pictures.
Also, check out our other Decades of Horror episodes on Ray Harryhausen films:
THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS (1953) – Episode 69 – Decades Of Horror: The Classic Era

They’ve gone cheap with the packaging. I have this as an actual box with the Chakram design on it as the magnetic clasp.
The best box set however is the Madman/Viavision box set you can get in Australia. It includes all the special features and additional footage that comes with the now out of print Anchor Bay box sets for each season.

Hey, it’s been some years since I’ve visited my past thoughts. I’m 23 now. It’s 2020. Shits weird. Coronavirus Pandemic. Donald Trump is president. I’m done with Adam. I’m happier these days.
It’s been cool adjusting to the lessons I’ve been learning and growing from them. Some really hurt but getting out on the other side always gives me a sense of appreciation and gained wisdom so it balances out.
I’m in like with a guy who I believe likes me back... it’s weird lol. I haven’t solely liked anyone with mutual reciprocation in a while. A long while. Adam and I had our moments, it was never consistent enough though. This is still fresh, however.. so I’m just riding the wave and it feels good. I don’t wanna jinx it so I’m here and my friends are probably tired of hearing it lol.
I’m trying to move out of state.... again. I attempted NY last year... now I’m headed to Atlanta in a few months. I pray that this journey this pushes me past my comfort zone and into a new adventure full of growth and opportunity. I want ViaVisions to expand. I want to network. Find good people to be apart of a team. I want to get the creativity rush and I don’t want it to stop. School starts in a little less than 2 weeks. I’m ready and serious. 2 years for programming and developing and 2 more for digital art. I should be able to set up websites, advertise and promote not only my own business but others to enhance the audiences experience and promote growth. I’m excited. I want to be a designer. Of different things. Graphics and illustrations mainly. Alongside my talents of cooking and ... well... I’m thinking of dropping the hair & personal training side hustle. I don’t enjoy it as much as the others. I may dip and dab for extra bread here and there but I really wanna focus on my art, which has never left my side, and cooking.
I’m gonna miss my clients tho. Hair clients up here in MD. But I’ll visit often. I think I’m going to focus on working out for myself for some years before revisiting PT. Maybe I’ll study and take the test just to be certified but I don’t think I want to train people until later in life. But we will see. Ideas come and go. Finances is another thing tho I miss focus on. Making and securing multiple streams of income and putting the bag away to grow for later.
I need to dedicate days to certain things. I need to spend more time creating the visuals in my head. Dreams come true, so I should let them.
Well life is good right now. Time to try and keep up with it.
