Let's say, hypothetically, in S2 where the AF gang goes to Match City, they get chased by tomb monster guardians after retrieving their half of the V.E.T.O map and gotta run and hide.
I wonder who comes to their rescue? 🧐
Part 1 ⬆️, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 (?).
@gattnk more Lilith content, as promised.

⋆⋆ ⭒ ☆ ★ ⭑ ⋆⋆
[V.E.T.O.]
sharing thoughts on the subject, elaborating on it, trying to make sense of it and tie everything together
* ...it’s sort of a program/virus, designed to keep angels and devils separate. A punishment for physical contact of any kind.
single mark is already very painful, but if you get too many of em, they would make it unbearable for you to exist: your psyche might snap, or you collapse from the amount of pain it causes, you may just about wish you were dead. Pain doesn’t stop unless the mark is removed, in some of its prototypes mark increased the pain level overtime or it multiplied and spread till it’s target is completely covered.
Pain is usually shared among beings who marked each other if it was by accident. but if it wasn’t: then whoever initiated - gets to suffer at the very least double, of what they inflicted
the world doesn’t collapse ofc, bcuz that’s just dumb as fuck and SO inconvenient for their system.
It’s intended to just murder “unruly” individuals 😚✨
From the visual aspect of the V.E.T.O. virus: marks design is changed once in a while, according to the latest trends of the time period. At the time in which the shows events take place, veto marks look like y2k stars tattoo; •Whether the mark is shallow or coloured in, depends on who’s at fault for breaking the law; •Since the pain is of electric-shock variety: on the outside of the mark you can see a bit of sparks and lightnings. It’s especially aggressive when the mark is freshly placed, but even overtime (as it never stops going), if you look closely, you can always see electric waves glowing.
Quite literal Shock Therapy.
v.e.t.o marks are kinda like shocker-patches: they’re flat, placed on top of the targets skin (aka they look exactly as they do: which is - a freshly done tatt)
Reina developed a spider, it’s venom breaks down this shitty virus in 24-48h. it’s slow, but just one bite makes you pretty immune and reduces burning to just mild stinging.. it’s itchy, annoying, but easy to get used to. Veto marks fade and the itch fades with them.
I’m thinking... her spiders venom makes any bitten celestial partially / closer to neutral - therefore they fall into a loophole and shock-patches no longer affect them.
We all know our main couple canonically do a lot of skinship, they are pretty touchy-feely on main from the get go. if it weren’t for the spiderbite they would be already covered enough to completely loose their work-efficiency, v.e.t.o. would’ve made it hard to form even a single sentence or ..well.. just Think in general.
But with just a bit of spider venom, marks turn into just... actively-stingy, celestial bruises and completely vanish with in 48 hrs.
pain if mostly ‘psychological’ for celestial beings, but if a mark is left there for too long ..like, many yrs in a row (it usually is), it leaves a fresh burn/scar on ones terrestrial form, which of course can only fully form or “heal” once the shock-patch is removed.
beings who designed them, did so the marks stay on the outside of the vessel... for allowing them to mingle INSIDE [even for the developers] ended up being recorded as “unnecessarily cruel”. Those patches are already extremely painful to bear on ones skin, but internal organs ...soft tissue proved to be way too sensitive.
And tho Veto’s developers didn’t think (or care to consider) celestials would go as far as to actually touch each-other on purpose after they got a taste of it ...especially not in any intimate or violent ways, cuz for any initiator that would seem straight up suicidal. it has quickly disproven in practice, so they maid mild adjustments.
Everything about this program can be altered remotely and if you are marked, it’s almost like being ‘chipped’... they have power over you. it’s not ‘natural’ - it’s made.
Of course, you‘re not in any active, immediate danger if you get a mark ...but neither are you _ever_ going to really be safe while having it...
it’s a punishment. designed to control.

Ayyyyyyyy Guess Who Just Finished Watching Angel's Friends
Me. I did.
So yeah, the start of this post is going to be a spoiler-less review-recommendation kinda thingy and then I'll put all of my other thoughts which include spoilers under the cut
Also, I would like to mention that Im only talking about the cartoon here, I have not read either the comics or the books at this point (I didnt even know that there were books before checking wikipedia to make sure that I actually watched every episode of the show lol)
Lets go babey!
This series is very not-good, but it has some interesting concepts and scratches some of my itches, so I like it. But before we get into that in detail, heres a summary of the basic plot, taken from wikipedia:
"Four Angels (Raf, Uri, Sweet and Miki) and four Devils/Demons (Sulfus, Cabiria, Kabale and Gas) are sent to Earth, in an unused area of the Golden School, where they learn everything they need to become Guardian Angels and Guardian Devils. The Angels and Devils are required to form pairs as part of their education, each of which will have to deal with a human being, known as Earthly Ones, and help them choose between the right and wrong way in life without being discovered. Angels and Devils cannot operate at the same time, so they decide, clashing in the Challenge Room, who will work first. Moreover, they are subject to the V.E.T.O. (Vetoed from Exposing, Touching or Obstructing/Overhearing in the comic – Italian: Vietato Esporsi, Toccare, Ostacolare/Origliare)."
Something that isnt mentioned here is the romance between Raf, the protagonist, and Sulfus, her devil rival, but its a pretty important part of the story that I'll talk about in more detail.
First, the animation is fine. Its kinda clunky and the posing is pretty unnatural at times, you can tell that the budget wasnt that high. The lipsyncing for the english dub is pretty abysmal in the first season but it gets better in the movie and in the second season.
Second, the voice acting is... something. It has that very not-good anime dub quality, which makes sense considering Angel's Friends is already very anime, even more so when youre watching it in italian (with subtitles bc you dont understand italian) and they randomly yell english phrases like "Think Fly!" or "Angel's Friends! Together forever!" or, my personal favourite, "Devil's Enemies! Supreme Temptation!" when transforming or using their powers. The dub is decent enough, Ive only watched the movie in italien and their voices seem mostly the same, with the exception of Sulfus, who sounds just awful in the dub im sorry. I hate listening to him talk, which is pretty bad considering hes the love interest. I mean, he makes up for it by having a great personality but man, what I wouldnt give to have him sound like he does in italian.... But the worst thing has to be the..... moaning, that the voice actors inexplicably do. Its very uncomfortable, I have no idea who is responsible for this but they have stuff to atone for
Third, the characters are pretty good, I like them a lot. Theyre not that deep, but theyre likable and pretty fun. Raf is a pretty nice and likable protagonist without being bland, although I kinda hate her subplot/backstory-thingy. I can ignore that for the most part though, so I dont really mind. Honestly, I think I would've liked Sulfus as a protagonist a bit better, but that might just be my bias towards edgy and pathetic (affectionate) guys coming through lmao. We mainly focus on Raf and her angel friends and their friendship is really cute. I kinda wish they paid more attention to the intragroup-friendships, if you know what I mean? Like, Raf and Urie were best friends and Miki and Sweet were kindof a duo, but thats kinda it and I really wish we explored some other dynamics a bit more. I wouldve also liked them to focus a bit more on Sulfus' friends, but at the same time, I get why they didnt. When it comes to stories where romance is incredibly important, I personally prefer it when the two characters in the main couple are both the protagonists, or when one of them is more like the deutergonist as opposed to just the love interest, but it works well enough here I guess
I also like the little background-plots (?? idk if thats the right word) that the humans get, theyre pretty charming and its fun to watch the angels n devils influence them
Speaking of the protagonist and the love interest, I absolutely adore the romance between Raf and Sulfus. Theyre soooooooo cute together its insane <3 Its gonna be kinda hard to explain why I love them so much as a couple without spoilery examples, but I'll try
Their dynamic is a fairly basic Good Girl/Bad Boy kinda thing (because of course it is) but like, in a way that I dont find absolutely loathesome lol. I usually really hate that dynamic because it feels like writers tend to use the fact that the guy is a 'Bad Boy' to make him toxic and insufferable for some reason while making the 'Good Girl' into a pushover who cant call him out on it, and then the whole thing is inexplicably framed as romantic?? And yea, I cannot vibe with that Im sorry. Fortunately, Raf n Sulfus arent like that :D Their relationship is pretty healthy and most of the drama between them either stems from external stuff or from the fact that their love is yknow, forbidden and no one really wants it to prosper (I think??? Idk honestly the storytelling isnt particularly clear here, I'll get into it later)
I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that Raf enforces her boundaries and Sulfus respects them despite their mutual interests, do you know what I mean? Like, okay, another thing that I love about their relationship is that they actually find out about each others feelings pretty early on and actually communicate about them; From Raf's perspective, the issue isnt "Oh no! Im in love with a devil who will never love an angel like me back :'(", its "Oh no! Im in love with a devil and he loves me back, but we cant be together because its forbidden :'(". And she basically tells Sulfus just that, and he goes "Well, rules were meant to be broken but fine, I get it I respect your decision pls tell me when you change ur mind tho" and I think thats neat
The fact that they know about each other feelings and are able to actually talk without turning into mushy flustered messes around each other is soooooooo incredibly refreshing. Like, I was comparing them to the Love Square from Miraculous in my head, since thats the last romance-centric Magical Girl show I watched and its literally so much better, I refuse to believe anyone actually likes it when the main couple doesnt communicate and dont get together until the last episode. And to be fair, Raf and Sulfus dont actually officially get together either (it looks like the series was cancelled prematurely and they were saving that for a potential third season), but they talk, they compliment each other and confess their feelings to each other and its just so nice, yknow?
The external drama between them doesnt feel contrived either. They straight-up have one of those stupid moments where the love interest appears to do something bad bc of some Outside Influence, like cheating or smth, and the protagonist gets mad and yells at the love interest while the love interest is like "no! wait!! I can explain!!!" but keeps getting interrupted except it didnt feel stupid at all, I was actually really invested in the drama rather than thinking "man, this is so dumb" like I usually do when this kind of stuff happens in stories.
The last thing I wanted to talk about was the story and the storytelling. Its pretty alright. I appreciate the structure of the two seasons with both of them starting out with a string of small, mostly unrelated, personal problems (that are mainly the angels and devils trying to make things better or worse for their human charges) while the villains are doing stuff in the background with the good guys being almost completely unaware until they achieve their first Real Victory and then the rest of the season is all the important characters banding together to actually stop them from achieving their World Destroying Final Goal. Theres a good amount of potential and set up to explore interesting themes about morality, free will, maybe love too idk, but the series is far too immature to really delve into any of it. Like, this isnt Winx Club Seasons 1-3, this is more like Winx Club Season 4 or maybe 5 idk I havent watched those season in a while. I would LOVE an animated She-ra (2018)-style reboot of this show because oughhhhhhhh theres so much good shit here but aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Also idk if this is the right place to put this, but the unsubtle and honestly pretty clunky dialogue really isnt helping lol
The biggest issue I have with this series is definitely the pacing. Im gonna be honest, I dont think I truly understood what people who critize media meant when they were talking about The Pacing before watching Angel's Friends and. i sure do now. The first few episodes especially feel like they tried to put 22 minutes worth of story into an 11 minute episode and like, I wouldnt call the experience of watching those episodes dreadful, mainly because they go by pretty quickly but, it sure isnt great. It gets a bit better, I think??? I honestly couldnt really tell you if actually gets better or if you just get used to it. I wasnt too bothered by it once I got used to not always looking at another screen while watching something because I have a pretty low attention span and tend to feel understimulated while watching TV shows, so the fast pace actually helped me in some weird way lol. As a kinda-writer, it was still really noticeable though and not in a good way
Another issue that I have is the fact that Raf and Sulfus' friends dont really seem to have an opinion on their love?? Or rather, its not really explained how much who knows and they dont really touch on it, which I think is kinda important for stories revolving around a Forbidden Love but, oh well.
So yea, thats about it for the non-spoilery stuff I think. I would definitely recommend to check Angel's Friends out, if only for some of the good ideas and the lovely kinda-subversive-in-a-way romance.
Alright, time to talk about what I liked, what I disliked and some missed opportunities in more detail (Apologies in advance if this next part is kinda disjointed lol)
The finales were my least favorite part, hands down. I especially didnt like the second season's finale, which is a shame because I really liked everything until they get to the Libra of the Veto and fight Cassidy and her cringe fail kinda-husband (forgot his name sry). Like, I loved the relationship drama between Raf n Sulfus and all the stuff with the clone and I thought Blue was really intriguing and the like, heist arc(?) were they infiltrate Angi Town and Match City respectively was sooooo much fun, but then the finale was just. eh. I think it might be because thats when I realized that oh, no theyre not really going to expand on all this interesting stuff that I would like them to expand on, are they. And yea, they didnt.
I was especially disappointed that we didnt really find out what Blue's deal was. I get that they were going to do that in a third season, but since we didnt get that, its just. Idk, disappointing, I guess?? Like, I predicted her being someone outside of the angel/devil binary basically in the scene she was introduced and I was theorizing about what exactly she was and where she came from and hyping myself up about her and then it was just.... nothing. Shes connected to Reina, but, how?? I personally thought she was a fallen angel given her primarily devilish features, but lack of horns or a halo and the weird shape of her wings. Maybe they elaborate on her in the books but i dont even know if those follow the same continuity as the show sooooo yea
The episode that truly made me like this show as much as I do was probably season 1 episode 26, where they kiss but it wasnt just the kiss, it was the whole build-up to it. Like, I feel like it couldve been so easy to mess up and make Sulfus come across as really unlikable or frame it like Raf was in the wrong for being upset when she wasnt, but I think they did it really well. And then ougggggggh the actual kiss...... I just really wish their lips didnt look so weird and ugly while they kissed lol
I kinda already mentioned this earlier but I like it happens so early in the series too. Ngl I initially didnt like that their relationship progressed so quickly (yea, the main couple having their kiss by episode 26 is pretty normal but remember that the episodes here are 11 minutes long) but theyre just so sweet together and I kinda realized that I actually prefer this to the usual way of writing 'slowburn' romance where theyre in mutual love but cant communicate at all for bullshit reasons lmao
The only thing that kinda pisses me off about this episode in hindsight are Sulfus healing powers which NEVER come up again. Like !!!! BRO how are you gonna give one of your main characters healing powers and never have him use them??!?! And its not like there werent opportunities!! Like, during the season 2 finale when Raf was injured and unconscious and everyone was telling them to go rest before their battle against those generals I was going "oh! Sulfus is gonna use those healing powers that he has but hasnt used for the entire rest of the series for some reason" but NO
Like, okay, in order to further explain why that sucks Im gonna go into another thing that really bothers me and thats the lack of gray morality
So, the angels as a whole are Good, the devils as a whole are Bad but in like, an emo school bully kinda way and anyone who threatens both angels and devils at the same time is Bad but in like, an actually evil way. Thats honestly perfectly fine in the first season, where we have the angels, the devils and Reina whos outside the binary and threatening to eradicate the existence of both angels and devils at the same time. When the devils are tempting humans into doing The Wrong Thing in the first season, I remember it always being unambigiously bad/selfish (in a bad way), while the angels are always in the right and theres never any doubts about that ever. The second season has these moments(?) that seem to call that into question but with absolutely no payoff
The most obvious is example is Sarah Jane, specifically her little plot about wanting to go to the mall with her friends but her mom not allowing her to because she wants her daughter to practice for a concert thats 3 months away. Thats unfair and her mom is obviously being shitty here and iirc even Urie and the other angels are like "thats unfair" but they dont wanna let the devils win so they convince Sarah Jane to just invite her friends to her practice instead of going to the mall and thats like. fine, I guess. I just think it sucks that the morality of the angels was only questioned for a brief moment and then tossed away because they found an adequate comprise, yknow?? I feel like they couldve had an interesting conversation about how its maybe not always wrong to be selfish (if youve watched Sanders Sides, basically the whole Selfishness vs Selflessness stuff but w/ angels and devils)
Also, it feels weird that no one really calls attention to Cassidy?? Yknow, that angel that was evil and wanted to incite a war?? That wanted it so much that she willingly worked with a devil??? But also, the War Of A Thousand Centuries was seemingly not considered to be bad itself, but rather the fact that Cassidy and her cringe fail kinda-husband tried to re-incite it after there war a law/truce put in place preventing them from fighting. And Im noticing thats kind of a theme in the series as Im writing it down here, where the Morally Wrong Thing tends to be the thing that makes you break a rule or disobey someone. And like, even beyond my own personal issues with that philosophy, that just makes for some pretty boring storytelling
And then theres the fact that. Okay, how do I explain this. It seems like theyre trying to make Raf a bit more 'diabolical' while making Sulfus more 'angelic' even more so in the second season, which, on paper, is a good way to approach their romance. But like, theyre not really doing that?? At least I feel like they arent. Its a bit hard to explain, but let me get back to those powers they gained right before they kissed. Raf uses her fireball powers quite a bit, she is (symbolically) being diabolical throughout the series, while Sulfus only uses his healing powers once, do you get what Im trying to say here??
Idk man, I was originally gonna write some more but ive been writing this post for hours andmy brain is running out of juice so yea. Hope you liked this

Rip Off Reviews: Angel’s Friends
A new title, same old ripping to shreds of things that have ripped off another. I go back and take a look at a show that tries to soar high like the Winx but is actually crashes down to brim stone!
Also, what is actually considered a real rip off? I may have the answer!
Decided to change the title for these from “Reel Rip Offs” to “Rip Off Reviews” since, if you known the Animated Heroine, she has a section called “Reel Rip Offs” and granted, at the time, I didn’t know what to call these reviews. So, yeah..You can say I ripped off another reviewer but without meaning to.
Honestly, since I rarely review movies, I really should have called it this title anyway. Granted it’s not that original of a title but I at least gave effort and admit to it. It’s hard to be 100 % original and even the term “rip off” has lost it’s meaning these days. So why I do I still slam and call shows rip offs when I know nothing can be 100 % original?
Well, here’s the thing, you can usually tell when something is trying to do it’s best to be it’s own thing and not a rip off. People say that Winx ripped off of Witch because they both contain 5 friends (later 6) that are fairies. However, Winx does try to include it’s own story and characters and the World of Winx is much different. In Winx, almost anyone can be a fairy if they’re born with magic or just somehow gain it. In Witch, only those chosen by the Heart of Kandrakar can become fairies. The Witch control the basic elements (water, fire, earth and air as well as energy.) and the Winx have their own powers including technology, something that you wouldn’t think a fairy of all creatures would have the power over of. Shoot, Aisha/Layla has her own unique power called “morphix”, which is this pink kinda slime like substance she can control. It can become anything from a shield to a weapon to even something she can ride on.
Same with Pokemon and Digimon. People say Digimon ripped off Pokemon but the only thing they have in common is that the monsters evolve, can fight other monsters and their name as well as kids to even adults occasionally having one. The rest of the story is completely different and told in a different way. Digimon focuses on the kid’s adventures of growing up and dealing with real situations that kids do face like being adopted, having a family member pass away, getting bullied, ect. While Pokemon is more focused on the Pokemon and taking care of nature while battling out to get stronger in a competition. Sure they focus on the human characters from time to time, but it’s more so their interaction and having to do with the Pokemon. Rarely do they focus on a human character that has a career/dream that doesn’t have to do with Pokemon, but granted that’s the purpose of the show. Pokemon surprisingly is about taking care of the pet, which is ironic because Digimon was originally based on Tamagachis than it was based on Pokemon. In fact, the creators for Tamagachis were the ones that pitched Digimon to be a boy’s version of Tamagachis, making a show to market the product like most toy lines did back then and still do.
So as long as they do something to make it their own, than yeah, it’s okay for them to have similarities with each other. Angel’s Friends hardly does this and even more shallow is when we get talking about the original 2007 comic books.
“ Four Angels (Raf, Uri, Sweet and Miki) and four Devils (Sulfus, Cabiria, Kabale and Gas) are sent to Earth, in an unused area of the Golden School, where they learn everything they need to become Guardian Angels and Guardian Devils. (Vetoed from Exposing, Touching or Obstructing/Overhearing in the comic – Italian: Vietato Esporsi, Toccare, Ostacolare/Origliare).” ~ Wikipedia
To make it more clear, the V.E.T.O basically means they cannot touch or expose each other or fall in love with each other. Now that does sound like an original premise and it is, but sadly, this show fails to take it anywhere deep or less predictable.
In the series, Raf finds out that she was born on earth and has to find out what happen to her parents. Gee, where did I've seen that from before? I know it’s been done before even Winx but hang on, I’ll get to the other parts in a bit.
Granted, yes they try to switch things around by having Raf already have powers and be an angel, rather than her being human and finding out she’s an angel, but switching it around doesn’t make it that interesting or at least, they don’t write it very differently. Raf finds out her true origins, is in denial at first, tries to leave her friends and her destiny to mope. She even thinks about joining the bad guys because the main villain pursues her that she will tell Raf anything she wishes to know about her parents and true origin. It’s the same as the Winx. Nothing is different and you can predict the plot easily!
Again, Witch and Winx are written differently from each other that the only thing they share in common is that the girls are fairies. That’s it! Even the tone and how the characters and story are written is different so you know that Winx isn’t a rip off. Angels Friends the tone is the same as Winx but unlike Winx, the other characters don’t get much development. Yes, Bloom in Winx is the main star and gets a lot of attention but we do cut back to some of the other characters and their development. At least more so in the first few seasons, but even later seasons the characters get some focus occasionally. Here hardly any development is made to the other characters and by season two, it seems like none of the characters have learned anything. They’re just back to square one!
There’s also forbidden love which is also in Winx, kinda. Bloom is at first, not allowed to be with Sky because Sky is a prince and Bloom’s kingdom was destroyed, thus no longer making her a princess by law standards, until the Secret of the Lost Kingdom plot. In Angel’s Friends, the forbidden love was staged by the villains and it turned out their love may not be even real at first. There’s later plots where they do show they’re in love but it’s again pretty cliched
Not to mention the designs are the same as Winx just with a weird head and this is where we enter the comic book series. Angel’s Friends started off as a comic book series in 2007. The characters look way different in the comics than they do in the cartoon.
First, in the original comics they were actually kids! They weren’t teens in the comics! The story is a bit the same but still different. Yeah, I will admit Raf is kinda odd looking in the original comics but, give credit, her attitude and how she is personality wise matches her appearance. She isn’t perfect nor perfect looking and at least here she has her own appearance. She doesn’t look like all the other characters. She looks like her own character. All of them do!
When they made the cartoon, you can clearly see they decided to go the Winx route and give up all the originality that the comic book was trying to go for and make it a Winx rip off. Shoot, the bodies are the same shape as the Winx. The only thing they did was change the head and face to be...Honestly, I don’t even know what that is! That face is just off to me! As odd as Raf was originally, I can see why they went with the design in the old comics. Her eyes are big and expressive and give off more personality. She’s cute in her own way.
In the cartoon, she’s kinda got them “Barney eyes” as Nostalgia Critic once said about Barney, where they’re big in the wrong way and small in the wrong way. At least with the Winx their eyes are big and show more expression. Here their eyes look like they’re stoned half the time and their faces seem really off! I honestly say that Raf is uglier in the cartoon than in the comic! At least the original design was meant to be cute and again you can tell what her personality is by her expressions and body language even seen in the comics!
In the cartoon, even Raf as well as the other’s clothing is shallow and uninspired. I get they want to give them some cool designs but again it just feels like they ripped off Winx, especially with how their wings are with this modern-esc outfit. They look like Magic Winx outfits if they decided for everyone to have the same wings.
Shoot, people say that Bloom is a rip off of Usagi from Sailor Moon but at least Bloom has her own colors and powers too! Raf has the same exact colors as Sailor Moon and is meant to be a klutz and your typical goodie goodie girl since she’s an Angel, but her “Barbie Doll” look makes her even more manipulative! It’s like if you were to fuse Sailor Moon, Bloom and Barbie to make an abomination from hell, that’s Raf in a nutshell! (Shoot, sometimes, Raf looks like Stella from Winx in some shots, just with again an ugly face and stoned out eyes.)
Not to mention but Sulfus, I still dunno what the actual hell they were thinking with his hair style! He looked fine with his long hair and his jacket outfit in the comics. To me personality wise, Sulfus is basically Riven if he went grudge or tried to go goth but didn’t know what the heck goth actually was!
Let’s not forget they made the main boy angels in the comic books background characters, because well...girls hang out with girls only and guys are just for dating only unless of course, they’re bad like the devils and the boy angel that has a crush on Raf, is of course, changed from video game loving, smart boy to just eye candy with no personality and hardly any facial expression!
Plus, scream as you will against Winx sexualizing teenagers and making them so skinny. Angel’s Friends did worse! They took a character originally kinda thick (well hard to tell because she’s a kid and always wears a sweater like all the time) and made her basically Musa from Winx, well if Musa had no interesting back story or personality outside slightly attitude that occasionally has some wisdom but not much else. Even kind of changing her race from an Inuit girl to an Asian girl of some sort.
At least with the Winx, they were always intentionally to be design with a thin body. I know I did a thing on why they use the same body shape because it’s just easier to do that, but come on! They could have made this series about cute angels and devils in training, than going for a plot we’ve seen a million times, that Winx and Sailor Moon already did better! At least then it wouldn’t be so much a rip off and rather it’s own thing! The comics actually did have something going on but they decided “Eh, scrap it! We’ll make them superficial and unrelatable!”
At least with the Winx characters, they actually go through stuff. They have personal problems that kids can relate to. Bloom’s adopted and has to deal with that crisis of wanting to know her real parents. In fact, the creator of Winx, Iginio Straffi, said that Bloom was based on a girl he met that was adopted and said the same thing, that she wanted to know her birth parents. Musa lost her mother at a young age, Aisha’s parents have high expectations of her and had strict rules to follow. Stella’s parents are divorced and she tried to cover it up that it doesn’t bother her, but you can clearly tell it does but she’s trying to be strong, which a lot kids do that! Flora is soft spoken and has a hard time standing up for herself. Tecna is an awkward nerd and has a hard time relating to people.
None of the characters in Angels Friends ever shown to go through that. In fact, the ones that ever really do get development are they main two love interests. The other characters don’t go through any kinda of dilemma that would involve them personally, outside of tempting and guiding their human I would say friends, but more so human projects or whatever.
The humans they guide aren’t very interesting either. They’re just kind of the blank slates for the kid to fit themselves into to teach and learn the lesson. The situations are hammered down a bit too much but for real little kids, this might be fine.
Now, yes, the story has it’s own idea, least the concept of the angels and devils guiding people is interesting, though I wouldn’t say it’s that original. It’s been done before. In fact, many of the first magical girls did similar things. The idea though is made more shallow because the characters are one note with little to no development.
Winx fans complain that Bloom takes the spotlight from the other characters and they get least development. Not true, at least they do focus on the other Winx from time to time and they do have development. In this series, only Raf and Sulfus get a deep story (if you can call it deep...) and none of the other characters ever do! I looked back and there’s none! By season 2, the characters are exactly the same as they were in the first season!
Now is there anything to like about this show? Well, the first season teachers are kind of interesting, the world about angels and devils guiding and tempting is pretty interesting. While the lessons are pretty hammered down, they aren’t bad lessons. I would even recommend the show if you had a kid and wanted them to watch something that was slightly educational in terms of life lessons without it being too close to home. So, it’s not really that bad in terms of teaching kids morals, but I would recommend say Miraculous Lady Bug or My Little Pony even before I even recommend Angel’s Friends.
If you like this show, more power to you. I will admit I do like at least the two devil girls, Cabiria and Kabale, just simply because the voice actors do give them some nice dialog and a little personality despite, yeah it’s the typical bad girl troupe. Shoot, Cabieria is voiced by Lisa Ortiz aka Lina Inverse of Slayers and you may recognize her Pokemon! In fact, the voice acting in this show is pretty good. It’s just shame the rest is left to be desired.
I’m going to give Angel’s Friends 2 1/2 stars out of 10. The acting is good and the concepts are interesting, morals are hammered in your face but aren’t bad morals so it’s not terrible for your kids to watch it. Rips off so much from Winx Club and has a lot of cliches that they don’t do anything different with. Not horrible for kids but I would recommend something else before flying into this one!
2 1/2 Stars
Level: Not Good!

Im just want to add my 2 cents to this so im sorry for the rant 😂:
I know rigth! And like Reina said, nothing happened. After the Devil and Angel officials had gone to take them back to their home town Sulfus ran over to Raf and not only held her hand but KISSED IT and the world didnt fucking end and that was AFTER Reina had been freed. But what pissed me off the most was the fact that at the end of season 2 their love was what restored balance to the V.E.T.O, prevented both angels and devils from fucking disappearing, prevented another thousand year holy war from breaking out AND saved the entire world! Yet when they say that the only thing they want is to be free to love each other without prejudice and some asshole manipulating it the council is like "But its not normal. Its not natural." Are you fucking kidding me?! They prevented the extinctions of both devil and angel kind and you cant give them a fucking break?! They saved your lives people! The least they could do is let them be together! And the point of the V.E.T.O is to prevent another holy war from forming and we all know that is bull because its already happened not once but TWICE by a bunch of psychopaths! But all they want is to be together! They have no desire for war! But what do Raf and Sulfus do? They decide to sacrifice a huge chunk of who they are, leave behind theyre loved ones, ambitions, what they love to do and endager their lives with the path of methamorphosis just so they can be able to love each other. Seriously these two kids have more maturity in their pinkies than all of those crusty, old assholes from the low and high spheres could get in a millenia!
funny how raf and sulfus recieved no punishment for going into the sacred room of portraits, causing reina to be able to steal them and thus have control over the lives of every single human being in that city, maybe even the world???
but raf and sulfus kiss once and suddenly everyone and their grandma scold the fuck out of them, expel them from school and treat this incident like its the worst thing to have happened since the dawn of time
