Lonely by Design

Is it just me or is adulthood inherently lonely? Almost like it's designed to run on solitude.

It feels like the older you get, the less likely you are to make new friends coz the people around either already have friends or are simply too tired to go through the process of building a friendship from scratch. So everyone ends up just staying in their lane until and unless you specifically have a rare case of good chemistry with someone and you start letting yourself be tight.

People act like friendships are meant for children. Grown ass adults don't have "best friends". How often do you find your parents "hanging out" with their friends. Married couples act like socialization is a task on their to-do list.

I don't want want to become one of those adults. I want to be able to keep my existing friends and be able to make new ones and just have good healthy friendships all around me at every stage of life. It can't be that hard. But why does it feel like it's going to be?

One things for sure. The older you get, the more time you will be spending with yourself. You can't escape that part so you have to make the most of it. You have to learn to enjoy your own company and to feel content with it. You have to learn to romanticize solitude or "me-time" so to say, coz you're gonna get a lot of it. You have to learn to be able to sit with your thoughts and not feel the constant need to drown it out with entertainment. You have to learn to be comfortable with doing things yourself and embodying your own main character energy even in the midst of people. Coz when you do, that's when you really lean into your situation and start to thrive.

That's what prevents you from becoming the grumpy adult who's always complaining about adulting. Instead, you enjoy the little things that make adulthood what it is.

Note to self: Take the upper hand.

grian is so funny to me because he is all about posturing and performing. he has a strict moral code that he came up with which is divorced from everyone else's sense of correctness, but he loathes this. he hates the rules. he came up with the rules. it's entirely unnecessary to follow the rules, because they're his rules. but he has to be Correct so even if he hates it he performs like he's following the rules, even if that means abusing loopholes that he invents within his own moral code. sometimes he forgets himself, too! like he's not always successful at performing Correctness. but then he'll go back and justify it (im not red so the trap on dogwarts wasnt my fault it was scars) (guys i had to betray you to help king ren because thems the rules!) I like to think about all the traumatic moments that the turtles have gone through and then I think about how often Leo is in the dojo, and how fanfics are like “he refines his skills more than he needs to” and I always wondered about that because he’s a ninja who constantly needs to refine his skills, right? It’s not like he’s never going to use them? In fact, every single time he goes out into battle he gets attacked and thrown around and I would want to stop that! Prevent the villains from getting the upper hand on me, practice battling against whatever move endangered my team or myself-

Solas' power levels going into Veilguard

This is all post-Mythal slurpee. During Inquisition he appears to be little different than Dorian and Vivienne, just with a different focus. But after he's back at full power? Solas is not a god, and I’m not convinced he was ever as strong as the Evanuris, but he’s still an incredibly powerful mage who's had thousands of years of practice. 

Any straight fight against him won't be easy. Solas' petrifying attack is devastating in both Trespasser and "The Dread Wolf Take You”. The mind blast he used in Trespasser caused a massive shockwave. Dorian commented that the magic was more powerful than anything he'd ever seen, and the implication is that Solas was holding back on just killing everyone because he was luring us through the eluvians.

In the Fade, Solas' abilities are even greater. The Fade is his natural home, and per the Mortalitasi's tale, the spirits he's befriended are as willing to aid him within as well as outside the Fade. He can also kill people in their sleep through the Fade.

In Dread Wolf form, he's as big as a high dragon. That's damn big, and he has the added combat bonus of being as highly intelligent and calculating as he is normally.

He’s also successful against groups: we saw how poorly the Qunari fared in Trespasser. In the Mortalitasi’s tale, he goes apeshit (wolfshit?) on the Mortalitasi and Tevinter mages, but he's also flanked by spirits. In the “Bard’s” tale, he seizes the chaos of the Qunari vs. Siccari to get rid of them, but this story is probably 85% lies. In "the Missing", he pits Varric against the Venatori, but it's because he wanted to shake them both off his trail rather than an inability to fight them. In Veilguard, he takes out an entire darkspawn hoard with one spell, and he could’ve decimated everything if the gameplay didn’t demand we have regular combat.

BUT Solas’ “fighting style" is more subterfuge than direct attack and he prefers maneuvering people to fight each other. This is reflected in Felassan’s Dread Wolf tales, the stories of the Forgotten Ones, and the podcast. 

The Evanuris (and the Blight) are an entirely different matter. Even with absorbing Mythal's power, he's not nearly as strong as she was. Elgar’nan’s power far outstrips his, and the rest of the evanuris are the same. I feel like he probably fomented infighting to try to get them to weaken each other. He lacked the knowledge and ability to kill them. Finally, he could not stop the Blight, only contain it.

Something that sticks out to me from rereading TFOH is that it deals A LOT with Nynaeve's fear of failure and not being enough to help her friends and people and I think people forget that she's deeply afraid cause she presents this facade that she's confident in herself when deep down she's not

i think mark would be rougher w a 'partner' (partner in quotes cause he's holding you hostage 🤭) who's masc because of daddy issues. . basically LMAOO.

if we're talking about alternate!mark, despite the fact that they took over the planet: he still feels the need to prove himself to his dad.

he may not show it but he still holds a lot of anger towards nolan. if their fight still happened in that timeline, mark finds himself having nightmares about his dad above him, pummeling him into that mountain and he wakes with a start before his dad can deliver the last fatal blow.

it causes friction.

maybe nolan and him bump heads from time to time. heated arguments and icy glares in which mark is always the first to back down on. because the truth of the matter is that mark is afraid of his father. and sometimes he wonders if they're real partners or if what they've got is more of an uneasy truce.

regardless, conquering earth is something mark is letting his father do because he wants his approval.

he wants to be just like him.

of course, that insecurity - that resentment - bleeds into his other relationship w men or masc!presenting individuals. it's an ego thing. a need to puff out his chest and show that he's stronger than said person. that he's better. that he can bring them to their knees.

he's going to take out his frustrations and do to you what he couldn't do to nolan.

it gets him so, so hard to see someone who's supposed to be strong reduced to whimpers and tears. he loves to tear them apart and watch as they try to pick up the pieces, only to fail in doing so. to watch them become an empty shell of what they used to be. he wants to be the reason you wake up in a cold sweat at night.

And this would happen repeatedly to a point that it would get around so there'd be Sixth House people warning each other that the Nerevarine was spotted nearby, he WILL approach and start asking about recipes and clothes trends extremely casually, and he for some reason can take way too many blows despite looking like the wind could snap him in half and he can't feel fear. He's like a fashionable and hungry boogeyman
