Awww thank you @trishherzog! You are so kind to say that! I love that you love UL! ❤️
I haven't been on this tumblr account in a redunkuously long time so my apologies for my belatedness! I'm also wayyy behind on fulfilling access requests to my website. My goal is to -hopefully- set aside some time in the coming weeks to get everyone's requests for access taken care of. I know that it's so overdue for most!
If you haven't already, you can request access through the website (under the 'Contact' link) and I should hopefully be getting to it soon-ish!

"Jin Ling wasn't abused! Jiang Cheng was the perfect uncle to him, and Jin Ling would never doubt that—"
Hey, quick question: how come Jin Ling hesitates to go to Jiang Cheng during the second siege despite all the other boys immediately and unhesitatingly running to embrace their relatives when the adults arrive?
These cultivators, including Jiang Cheng, all bathed in blood, their faces tired. All of the boys rushed outside the cave, shouting, “Dad!” “Mom!” “Brother!” They were embraced into the crowd. Jin Ling looked left and right, as though he still hadn’t decided yet. Jiang Cheng’s voice was harsh, “Jin Ling, why are you so slow? What are you taking your time for? Do you want to die?!”

love language.
like so much love and affection and support for tommy getting to know buck and then watching buck describe every single way he's tried to chase love in his thirty years alive on earth to never be loved back in a way he needs or wants, like give me THAT moment of TV, give me the dawning moment of horrifying awareness on tommy's face when he realizes his boyfriend 1. needs to be loved and 2. has never been loved and 3. so readily accepts anything that even comes close that he'll die for it and 4. has ZERO self awareness about any of this to the point that he thinks he's been loved before, plenty of times

Obviously I wouldn't be working on a cross stitch project like the one I'm working on if I didn't love Arslan Senki but I cannot emphasize enough how much it is the story of all time for me
there is not a single version that I dislike, or that I think brings nothing to the experience of the story
but when you boil it down, the thing that has held me so captivated and brought me back to the story over and over and over is that Arslan himself is so gentle, and kind, and softhearted
and not only does the story not punish him for that like so many would, but those are the traits about him that his retainers love, and they would do anything to prevent him from losing that gentleness
the story shows over and over again that Arlsan is right and that he doesn't have to change who he is in order to learn to be a good king
and it just really gets me that in a story that can so often feature violence and deceit, that the core value is still that being kind is worth it

I'm tired of stories about eeeeevil shapeshifters who infiltrate humanity. Gimme a story about humans being the sneaky spies instead.
Depending on what the aliens look like, we won't need any special abilities other than a good costume/prosthetics department.

MCFLY JULY ‘24 ⸺ 「 13 / 31 * CAMPFIRE 」
September 6, 1885
Purple really was a beautiful colour.
Turning the brooch over in his hands, he’s struck by the simple elegance of the vibrant flowers, their pop of life and colour against the gloomy, dust filled California night. Emmett had never given it much consideration before—purple was a fine colour; one he had no real opinion of—at least not until Clara gave him a new appreciation for it.
Even the fire looks dull by comparison, unable to match the splendour of the flowers in his hand no matter how it dances in the darkness.
Clara. He runs his thumb over her name embossed in the metal, thankful that Marty was asleep and entirely oblivious to his emotional turmoil. Emmett frowns, looping his earlier discussion with Marty in his head, unable to quiet either side of this heated debate.
His head screams be scientific about this. His conscience, borrowing his young friend’s voice in order to tip the scales back in the favour of logic and reasoning, throws the weight of the universe at him—you are singularly responsible for the fate of the timeline now. You have chosen to circumvent the boundaries set for mortals and tread where no man has before, stomping across realms that fall solely within the purview of the Gods, and now you must suffer the consequences for your actions.
Such dangerous knowledge could only come with personal sacrifice. Perhaps that was why it took three decades’ worth of dogged resolution and pertinacious research in order to accomplish it—some things were not meant to be touched by man.
He cannot stay in 1885 any more than Marty can, not without serious repercussions to the timeline. Their actions have already left indelible scars on history as they know it; they’ve introduced an entirely new, unknown variable to the timeline by inadvertently preventing Clara’s death, and while Marty had managed to somewhat convince him that renaming an entire ravine wasn’t the most universe-shattering thing that could have happened, they’d never done something like this.
This would be an entirely new future shaped by countless unforeseen aberrations from their original timeline.
His heart, however, steals his voice, advocating for selfishness in spite of the timeline. Marty had already done just that, inadvertently altered the timeline, and nothing unravelled because of it. He and Marty still became friends, he finished the Time Machine precisely on-time, prevented his own death…
He knew the future—that very knowledge alone should allow him to avoid causing any major changes to the timeline. This time, he could prevent his death, he could send Marty home, he could live out his final years with the woman who fit perfectly into that hole in his heart and made him whole.
Just thinking about her makes Emmett’s heart swell. Just like these flowers, she is beautiful—a vision, and Emmett wonders, privately, when his heart pulls him away from all reason and sense, how such a woman could’ve been bestowed with such a tragic fate—able to make him feel as awkward as a schoolboy in front of the object of his affection with little more than a smile.
Emmett sighs, staring into the fire. No, no he can’t do that—to allow himself this comfort while denying and cautioning Marty against this very thing would be grossly hypocritical of him, not to mention highly irresponsible.
There will never be another woman like her in all of time and Emmett isn’t lost to the heart-wrenchingly cruel irony that is that the one woman that makes him almost willing to believe in the foolish, unscientifically romantic notion of soulmates just so happened to be a woman who no more belonged in today than he did.
Marty’s voice inevitably wins out and Emmett turns the flowers over in his hand one last time, searching for some yet undiscovered third option that will satisfy everybody. He’s right, as much as it rips his still-beating heart from his chest to admit. There’s only one acceptable course of action available to them now and though it is a small, almost negligible comfort, at least Clara will live out a full life.
And the moment they get back, he will destroy the blasted Time Machine and everything related to it to avoid any temptation of returning to the past.
It’s for the best.
If only he believed that.
Emmett stands, delicately slipping Clara’s brooch into his pocket while his heart drops like a stone into his stomach.
The campfire pops three times as he saddles up Archimedes, shooting embers into the air, and were he a superstitious man, he may have considered that an ill omen.

re: last post, but yeah I think there is a way, unintended by the game for sure but still not canon-breaking, to understand TP Ganondorf the very same way we understand WW Ganondorf post mental breakdown, and suddenly a loooot of things start to make a horrible kind of sense
There is a way to make TP Ganondorf, not only not stupidly written, but also utterly heartwrenching
AGAIN YES it's not what the game intended, but literally except for maybe (maybe!!!) Wind Waker, and that reading is being semi-actively dismantled by Nintendo at every turn ever since that happened, when the hell has any zelda game given that dude any kind of grace

an unnecessary reminder i will go to bat any day of the week for james sunderland.
#ooc. o kaptain.#[listen. i know he can be interpreted a lot of ways. i know he’s a useless weird apathetic shitty cis white man. i know he’s weird and sad.#and do I hate characters like james usually? oh absolutely. but the man has potential to not be terrible and it’s all there in his source#material. plus the weird implication i always feel when we know his dad owns the apartment building in silent hill 4 and ‘his son and#daughter in law disappeared in sh’ which aligns with the in water ending. and confirms the body in the car. but my other vibe is… where was#anyone helping james while Mary was sick…? he was super young and so was she. was he just literally taking on this terminal illness on his#own without any real support? that’s the implication considering this trauma wouldn’t have scarred him to this degree if he HAD a support#system during Mary’s illness. the man was literaly left to deal with the love of his life PROBABLY newly married slowly dying. and totally#unprepared he tried to do the best he could with a horrible situation. Mary was the victim here unquestionably — he fucking killed her— but#what the fuck kind of neglect has to go into a situation to a level so prolonged that he cracks and does it? how many people DIDNT help him#OR Mary during her illness? how many people just didn’t care? deciding ‘James is bad and he did it because he’s selfish and terrible’ isn’t#realistic. and also no. he didn’t do it because he couldn’t have sex with her anymore we get it blah blah pyramid head. if you take it THAT#straightforward idk what to tell you. nothing is. and this game is only more complex the older i get.]

people do get mad at the characters in this show me included but fwiw given the time and focus I could write a thesis-length defense for every single one of them including boston
my favorite thing about this show so far is how complicated and human they all get to be. yeah there's a lot of brokenness in these characters and relationships! yeah they're doing some terrible shit to one another! most of the worst of it is not actively malicious which is what makes it feel so relevant and messy and true: we hurt each other in all kinds of unthinking sloppy selfish ways in real life, too.
I'm not here to come after anyone who gets any catharsis hating on a fictional character. one of the few things that does not have the potential to hurt these little shits is how we the viewers of their fictional(/ized) lives feel about them. but unless something major changes you're not going to see much of that around here

new jane seymour fanfic just dropped!
Tumblr media
where are the history books that call her a ‘sweet, docile angel’? name them.
#i’ll wait :)#we literally know nothing about this woman so we simply cannot claim with any certainty#what her feelings or motivations were. we simply don’t know.#‘jane was not a nice lady AT ALL’ well.. were any of them?#likewise why is she assumed to be inauthentic/manipulative when we simply don’t know?#while anne’s supposed ‘independence’ is unquestionably accepted as wholly genuine.#maybe jane was manipulative but there’s no evidence either way#seems weird to single her out as not nice when we know the least about her.#this ‘well ACTUALLY—‘ attitude about jane feels so spiteful.#people seem SO bitter and resentful over jane’s supposed glowing reputation… that doesn’t exist.#historians/authors either don’t care about her or they talk about her with disdain#& that there is a slowly burgeoning group of fans is not really indicative of her general historiographical record.#by and large jane is the least popular wife. we all KNOW this. there is no need to pretend.#there is no need to be this reactionary and defensive.#(ALSO:#‘genuinely lovely people were a rarity in the tudor court—#—they all backstabbed each other for a taste of power’#i need you to understand that tudor people… were people.#not every single person was/is a cartoonishly evil power-hungry machiavellian schemer.#many lacked the ability and/or the inclination. almost all lacked the agency — especially many women.#for the majority the court world was merely a place and system of employment.)#💿🐴
