HIGHLIGHTS
Shoaib Akhtar responded to PCB legal counsel Rizvi’s defamation notice
Akhtar said whatever he said was for the betterment of Pakistan cricket
PCB said Rizvi filed notice in his personal capacity
Former Pakistan pace spearhead Shoaib Akhtar has responded to the defamation notice sent to him by the Cricket Board’s legal counsel Tafazzul Rizvi, calling it “legally defective, merit-less and misconceived”.
The temperamental pacer also demanded an apology from Rizvi for trying to “publicly humiliate, degrade, defame and ridicule” him.
“Whatever I said on my channel was for betterment off Pakistan cricket and to point out to the board where it needed to put things right. Whatever I said about Rizvi was based on my personal interaction with him,” Akhtar said.
“My comments about PCB & Mr. Rizvi are expression of opinion given in public interest to point out shortcomings in PCB with hope for improvement,” he tweeted.
Rizvi, the long serving legal counsel of the Pakistan Cricket Board, sent the defamation notice after, on his YouTube channel, the fast bowler called him “inept” while criticising the three-year ban imposed on discarded Test batsman Umar Akmal.
Akmal was banned for failing to report corrupt approaches.
PCB said Rizvi filed notice in his personal capacity
Rizvi has demanded an unconditional apology and compensation of Rs 10 million to be donated to a charity. But Akhtar has been defiant, insisting he will fight the case.
The PCB, while issuing a statement on Akhtar’s video and sharply rebuking him, also made it clear that Rizvi had filed the notice in his personal capacity.
The fast bowler has developed a penchant for getting into controversies.
He recently evoked sharp response from former Indian players when he suggested a charity match between Pakistan and India to raise funds to fight the coronavirus pandemic in the subcontinent.

Due to this reason, Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has banned for 3 years
Lahore: Pakistan Cricket Board on Monday imposed a three-year ban on Umar Akmal. This ban against them will be applicable in all formats of cricket. This means that Umar Akmal will stay away from cricket for three years now. This ban has been imposed on Omar Akmal for not informing the board of a proposal for a fixing case. The offer was made to him before the commencement of the fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Under the Anti-Corruption Code of PCB, it is mandatory that if a player receives any proposal for fixing, he should inform the board without delay. There is a provision for punishment for not doing so. The PCB has shared this information in a tweet. It has been said in the tweet that the decision has been taken by Justice (Retd) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, Chairman of the Board's Discipline Committee. The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) suspended Umar Akmal in this case on 20 February with immediate effect. PSL was also barred from participating on behalf of Quetta Gladiators. He was found guilty of violating two provisions of the Anti-Corruption Code of the PCB. In response to the notice, Umar Akmal had said not to appeal to the Anti-Corruption Tribunal. The case was then referred to the Disciplinary Committee, which, after hearing on Monday, convicted Omar and banned him for three years. HIGHLIGHTS
Akmal was suspended on February 20 and could not take part in the Pakistan Super League
The Pakistan Cricket Board has referred Umar Akmal’s case to the disciplinary panel
Akmal had been charged for failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department
After determining that Umar Akmal has not requested for a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal, the Pakistan Cricket Board has referred the matter to the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan, former Lahore High Court Judge, the PCB said on Thursday.
The PCB made the determination after examining the contents of Akmal’s reply in which no written request for a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal had been made for the purposes of contesting liability or level of sanction or both as per Article 4.6.6 of the PCB Anti-Corruption Code.
In accordance with Article 4.8.1 of the Code, the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel, shall now issue a public decision confirming the offences under the Code specified in the Notice of Charge and imposing applicable sanctions.
The confirmation of the offences will be followed by levying applicable sanctions, which in Akmal’s case range from a six-month suspension to a life ban.
“Until the Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel has announced his decision, the PCB will not comment on the matter,” reads a PCB release.
Akmal had been provisionally suspended on February 20 and was issued the notice of charge on March 17. The PCB formally charged Akmal with two breaches of its anti-corruption code for two unrelated incidents on March 20.
