I've been missing having an AUX jack to play music, so I spent the last couple of days researching USB C to 3.5mm adapters. I figured I'd share my findings for anyone else who might want an adapter but finds USB C confusing.
If you know your phone has an internal DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) connected to your USB C port, you can get away with a simple adapter sans DAC and save a few dollars.
If you don't have a built-in DAC and are driving standard headphones, the Apple adapter ($9) seems like a great deal for the price and is compatible with most devices. The exception is Android devices, which appear to lack the ability to configure the Apple adapters' DAC volume to be above 50% by default.
So, for Androids, I would suggest the Samsung adapter ($9), which has similar performance.
If you're driving fancier headphones with a high OHM rating, you'll want a beefier DAC, which is outside the scope of what I was looking for.
I ended up buying both the Samsung and the Apple adapters due to the mix of devices in my household. Waiting for them to arrive in the mail.
Based on reviews, there still seems to be some amount of chance involved when it comes to compatibility, but I think this info minimizes the chance of you needing to return something. I'm also skeptical of the durability of these devices, I sort of wish they had some chunkier leads.
Also, here are some reviews I found helpful: And they even have graphs!

i love bespoke ethernet cables... like omggg it's the perfect length ♡
#i don't cut cables v often but i got to today for the end of my shift ☝🏾😌#I'm setting up 40 laptops and u can just copy one u already did onto all the other ones over the network :3#and i didn't actually finish making all 7 for this bench until today and now that they r ready it's 🤌🏾#i hate when ur options r either really short or really long ૮ – ﻌ–ა i will make multiple perfect ones out the long boy ♡#i also labeled all the usb to ethernet adapters bc they don't print the MAC address on them 🙄#it was a nice change of pace‚ work has been such a pain lately 😮💨

The best part about my brother and I having very similar tastes is how we often get guinea pig gifts for each other for birthdays/holidays. I've been wanting one of these lamps for ages but wasn't sure if the price was worth it, so I got one for his birthday to test out/decide if I want to get one for myself.... well you can bet your ass I'm gonna be ordering another asap! This is how good it looks while half my room is bathed in sunlight! I can't imagine how much better it'll look at night!
#i will post photos of night time later!#the assembly was a little nerve wracking cause its a log of fragile pieces to screw together but it was like a fun puzzle too!#only downside is its just a usb plug so ill need to get an adapter to plug it into a wall which is totally fine.#theres a remote to change the colors etc#im legit mad i have to wait abother couple weeks to be able to give this to him#i want his reaction now!#will link the shop i got it from in the comments#they have tons of other designs too!#i just liked this one the most cause it felt the most complex
