K-9 Veterans Day
Joseph White, a retired military working dog trainer, came up with the idea for K-9 Veterans Day. By his efforts, his home state of Florida recognized the day in 2009. Other states have since recognized it as well, although it has not been recognized on the national level. The day is dedicated not only to K-9 veterans of the military, but also to customs dogs, search and rescue dogs, police dogs, border patrol dogs, and secret service dogs. March 13 is the date of the holiday because the K-9 Corps was created on March 13, 1942. The Quartermaster Corps of the Army began training dogs on that date, making it the moment when dogs officially became part of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Three months before Pearl Harbor, U.S. Army Sgt. Robert H. Pearce started a small K-9 command program at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, Los Angeles. He brought Hollywood dog trainer Carl Spitz on board. (Spitz was known for owning and training a Cairn Terrier named Terry, who was best known for playing the role of Toto in The Wizard of Oz.) In January of 1942, they began asking people in Los Angeles to bring their dogs to Pershing Square to be used in the war effort. Over 1,000 dogs were brought, including Rudy Vallee’s Doberman Pinscher, King, and Mary Pickford’s German Shepherd, Silver. The program was known as Dogs for Defense. These dogs would go on to be used by the K-9 Corps.
Originally, thirty breeds of dogs were accepted by the K-9 Corps, but this was narrowed down to seven: German Shepherds, Siberian Huskies, collies, Belgian Sheepdogs, Doberman Pinschers, Eskimo dogs, and Malamutes. New dogs were first given obedience training. They were then given additional training to be a scout or patrol, messenger, sentry, or mine detector. Within eight to twelve weeks they completed their training. The original idea was to have 200 dogs in the K-9 Corps, but by the end of World War II, the number had ballooned to more than 10,400. Most of the dogs were family pets.
Although dogs were first formally trained for military service during World War II, they have been used in war since antiquity. More recently, some were used informally during the Civil War. During World War I, the German, British, and Belgian armies used them to pull carriages and wagons loaded with guns and supplies, to pull telephone lines, to carry messages, and to comfort those who had been injured. About 7,000 dogs were used in World War I, but not only a few of these were from the United States.
As of the late 2010s, over 2,500 dogs actively serve in the military, and about 700 are deployed overseas. Military dogs sniff out bombs and weapons, search and patrol, perform guard duty, and serve as companions to those who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Military dogs are usually German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, or Labrador Retrievers. Dogs in the military now can receive medals and awards, and they often have retirement and memorial services held for them. In law enforcement, dogs began being used more in the 1970s. These dogs patrol, perform search and rescue missions, and detect drugs, explosives, cadavers, and arson accelerants. Dogs in both military and law enforcement roles, as well as dogs in other similar official roles, are all honored today.
How to Observe
Here are some ideas on how to celebrate the day:
If you have, work with, or train a military dog, law enforcement dog, or dog in a similar role, make the day extra special for them.
Contact your representatives and encourage them to support a K-9 Veterans Day on the state or national level.
Support K-9 Courage, a group that provides healthcare assistance to retired police and military dogs, and gives support to service dogs who assist veterans with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. You could help raise funds or have your own dog participate in “Dogs Salute Dogs.”
Learn about notable dogs who have served in the military, such as Sgt. Stubby, Chips, Lex, and Cairo.
Visit a memorial dedicated to dogs, such as the War Dog Memorial at the March Field Air Museum in Riverside, California; the War Dog Memorial in Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York; the National War Dog Cemetery and War Dog Memorial at Naval Base Guam; The Pennsylvania War Dog Memorial; or the Military Working Dog Teams National Monument in San Antonio, Texas.
Visit Sgt. Stubby, who is stuffed and on display, and covered with a blanket that holds his medals, in an exhibit titled “The Price of Freedom: Americans at War” at the National Museum of American History.
Watch a movie or documentary about military or police dogs such as Max, Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero, War Dog: A Soldier’s Best Friend, Megan Leavey, or War Dogs: America’s Forgotten Heroes.

Why Boycotting America Is Important To Me!
There are several reasons why boycotting America is important to me. However, I am not ending my friendship with friends and acquaintances who live there. It’s just that I can no longer travel to the USA while Donald Trump is president. The implications of a new 25% Tariff on imports from Canada would not only affect Canadians – experts have outlined the devastation to Americans and the American…

sorry if youve gotten this question before, or this just isnt what you focus on but considering all the things happening in the us right now would it be advisable for me (a trans guy) to move to canada? like how are you guys holding up in terms of policy around trans and gay people? and what city/providence would you most recommend, if any?
Things are mostly ok within the larger cities (Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, etc) but some rural communities in bible belts have not been safe spaces for LGBTQ people.
One major concern is that the leader of the Conservative Party of Canada is a transphobe, and based on the polls consistent over the past year or so, he has a very real chance of becoming Prime Minister.
There has been a large rise in homophobic and trans phobic hate crimes in recent years. Its definitely not as bad as the USA, but things are not necessarily trending down either.
As far as which regions in general are safest:
Canada's most left party (NDP) is in control of two provinces, British Columbia and Manitoba. The party is very LGBTQ friendly. Additionally the Liberals are in power in Newfoundland & Labrador and Yukon and are also generally pretty supportive. All other provinces in Canada right now have Conservative governments. The territories of Northwest Territories and Nunavut don't have party affiliations.
There have been some Premiers who have taken transphobic stances and policies in New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Alberta (all are run by Conservative governments).
Moving to Canada is also very expensive, very time consuming and is far from guaranteed unless you have jobs lined up for you, are wealthy, etc. I'm not saying to give up on the idea, just make sure you do the research and know what you're getting into.
Canada has a higher cost of living with especially high rent prices, particularly in Vancouver/Toronto and the neighbouring areas of BC and Ontario. So make sure to keep that in mind.
Hope this helps. I'm Trans too (Trans Femme) and happy to answer any other questions you have.

Hi! For TDP end credits, did you have to apply or were you invited by them like a guest artist? (How do you get those types of jobs?) Also, do you know what the general career pathway/major for animation/concept art/digital drawing is such as in TDP?
Thank you
Hey! Not sure if I understood your question, but I got in the credits of Dragon Prince because my work in the show, but if you are asking about the art on the credits, I think was done by members of the design team, no guest artists.
About how I got the job? Bardel was looking for SB artists in Vancouver, BC (where I live), and I applied, did a test, and got the job.
How can you get into the animation industry? Depends where you live. Some job can be remote, but a lot of studios get tax incentives for hiring people locally, so for example all the studios in Vancouver try to recruit people from BC, Canada, and the ones in Toronto will choose people who live in Ontario, and so on. Same for USA studios, depending on if the studio is in CA, NY or Texas, etc...So besides having training in animation or art (via a degree or self learning), it is good to be located close to the industry.
Then is a thing of aplying, doing networking and showcasing your work. Making relationships in the industry is the best way to get into cool projects like Dragon Prince.
Hope that helps!

14 for the song meme!
14. a song you think is underrated
ok so full disclaimer if you're into prog-rock and its adjoining genres you will probably be fully aware of ELP and their fuckingly massive (and insane) discography, which in that case this might not be as underrated as you think it should be. for the rest of you who aren't though i picked this one specifically buckle up
you know those songs that have incredibly lush production in the studio master and then when you go on tour it's a 50/50 split between getting a live band/backing track to replicate that and saying actually 'no we're stripping this motherfucker down and we're doing it so good you won't miss the bells and whistles'? yeah. SYTMO is one of those. landed on my IWTV playlist at first entirely by accident when i misclicked on what i thought was a different song and ended up being this one but it has not fucking left since. there's so much going on here. if i really have to tell you that it don't mean a thing and it really doesn't matter when you're buried in disguise by the dark glass on your eyes though your flesh has crystallized with that kind of production in the back do you think i'm going to be normal about it yes or no
and then. like i said. shit's great in studio but when you get to the live versions where it's just Lake on the twelve-string guitar.......................... well fuck. highly recommend watching the video of the second embed bc that fucker's chewing gum. and the vocals are still that clear fuck me. i have been physically restraining myself from screaming at everyone i meet about this song and it shows bc SYTMO found itself at #68 in the list (the third embed is what actually ended up in my Wrapped but we need the full gamut for context yk). no more restraining i'm spreading the gospel stream that shit
(send me a number from this Spotify Wrapped ask game!)
#inbox#q: archive-z#emerson lake and palmer#was so hard picking what song to feature for this but SYTMO grabbed me and said write the words that i have given to you#so ykw. that's what we did. amen#spotify wrapped

Not exactly a request to draw, but I just thought of the OG 13 playing hockey with the 10 Provinces + 3 Territories of Canada. 🌅
Now you’re giving me something to think about…
I won’t draw it, unless you really want me to (If you do please ask for some of them and not all of them ^^) but I will share my thoughts!
First, I don’t think the team would be USA vs CAN. Try as you might, Alberta won’t play with Québec unless she’s dared with an impressive amount of money to (Qc doesn’t care as long as she gets to play.)
So, going with Qc in one team and Alberta in the other, we then need to separate them… here’s the list of every participant:
Georgia, Penn, Newfie, Connie, North Carolina, Ontario , New York, Québec, New Jersey, Virginia, Mass, South Carolina, British Columbia, New Hampshire, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Alberta, PEI, Rhode Island, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Delaware, Maryland, Nunavut, Northwest, and Yukon.
Now let’s say Québec is team one, York, Jersey and Connie are for sure with her. Brunswick too, so Newfie, Scotia and PEI are too. That makes eight people out of thirteen. Now, Ontario won’t want to be with the western provinces, so she’s added to the mix. Québec managed to get Nunavut with them (who knows how lmao); she also got Mass and New Hampshire with them.
Now, per default, the other team will be Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC, Yukon, Northwest, The Carolinas (x2), Georgia, Manitoba, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
Now, I’ll you imagine how that goes lmao.

maggie! my sister and I are planning a road trip to canada this summer so as a canadian, anything you recommend doing, any absolute must sees?
!!! Oooh, have fun!
I can only really give concrete recommendations for Quebec and southern Ontario, and the later with less than a year of experience - so if you're headed to the prairies or BC I'm not much help.
For Québec:
If you stick to Montreal and the touristy areas, you lively won't need all that much French! Usually people clock that you're a tourist and will switch to English if they can. Less likely the farther you get from Montreal and the Townships.
Goes without saying, try a good poutine (There’s an invisible S in there, we pronounce it more like.. poutsine lmao)! Don't get it from a big chain except maybe Belle Province or Poutineville, the very best I've had have usually been from lil cantines. If they’re not using fresh cheese curds don't trust em.
Also Beaver Tails (a fried pastry brand). Usually have lil kiosks near events and sinfully good. My brother and I go bonkers for them.
In Montreal proper, I'd recommend a walk on Mt.Royal! I forget if the inside skating rink at Atwater is still available this time of year, but might be worth looking into. Vieux Montréal is a nice place to romp around, especially around the canals and the Atwater market. Avoid driving in and around MTL it's a living hell, move around by bus or metro(subway) if you can, you can get day passes easy enough. St.Catherine and Mt.Royal streets usually have fun stores and restaurants to poke around in, and the gay village is great! I'm pretty sure most amusement parks in the USA are bigger than La Ronde, so don't waste your time with it.
Zoo de Granby is one I went to a lot as a child and they do great conservation work and have beautiful exhibits + a fun water park! Bromont is great for winter fun, but wrong time of year, and their water park can be hit or miss.
Both Bromont and Sutton are great for hiking (I have good memories of getting up to a lake on Mt.Sutton just as the mist revealed it, so cool). Apparently so is Owl's Head, but I've only skii'd there. Bromont is expensive and the cops are real sticklers, Sutton is a lot smaller and personally I think more cute and chill.
Lac Brome/Lake Brome is just about the most anglophone place in the province outside of Montreal! You can do a lot of kayaking, boating and even just driving around the lake is nice. It is a tourist town with its businesses catered towards Montrealers weekending there, so everything is closed Mon/Tues but open over weekends. Just a very cute and anglophone town.
Memphremagog / Magog is both an okay town and a really great lake, bigger than Lac Brome if you'd rather get on the water there. Also fun local myths of a lake monster >:3c
If you like murder mysteries, Louise Penny based many locations in her series off of areas in the Townships - such as Brome Lake Books('s old location) and Abbey St.Benoit (which has great cheese). There are maps to help her fans run around and see the locations irl!
Due to the dairy industry there's a lot of great cheese and icecream in general. Coaticook has great icecream and a cool gorge (my ex lived there), but it’s very French so you might have trouble.
A personal highlight: drive up the St.Lawrence. it's gorgeous, sometimes there are whales, and just. Amazingly beautiful. Fuckoff cold water tho.
There are a ton if beautiful national parks in Quebec; Bic is a highlight personally.
For southern Ontario:
Niagara Falls is a mixed bag: the falls themselves are incredible, absolutely awe inspiring (I remember getting to my hotel room after and writing in a frenzy - the MIST from them hits you SEVERAL HUNDRED METERS AWAY). BUT the area around them are a tourist trap, overpriced and iffy.
I haven't run around Toronto much beyond getting lost going to n from the airport, but I've heard decent enough things?
Iirc there might be more Freedom Convoy bullshit going on in Ottawa, so keep an eye on the news if it's on your bucket list.
Also have heard p good things about the national parks, almost went camping with the other grads before schedule conflicts popped up.
Haven't done much due to gradschool unfortunately :c
I also know that Alberta has an incredible dinosaur museum with some amazing specimens, and Dinosaur Provincial Park is teaming with big fossils (almost went on a dig there but Covid happened).
Hope some of this helped!

With New York City being ranked briefly this morning as the city with the world’s worst air pollution, mayor Eric Adams warned that climate change has accelerated the conditions surrounding the smokey haze that has shrouded the city.
“While this may be the first time we’ve experienced something like this on this magnitude...it is not the last. Climate change accelerated these conditions.”
Adams went on to urge for more action towards addressing climate change issues, saying:

“New York City is clearly a national leader on public health and climate action and these dangerous air quality conditions are clearly an urgent reminder that we must act now to protect our city, our environment and the future of our children.”
Vermont senator Bernie Sanders and echoed similar sentiments towards climate change on Wednesday, tweeting:
“Right now, 98 MILLION people on the East Coast are under air quality alerts from Canadian fires and, last night, NYC had the worst air quality in the world. Climate change makes wildfires more frequent and widespread. If we do nothing, this is our new reality. It’s time to act.”

Meanwhile, during a press briefing this afternoon, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that “climate change [is] a top priority” as tens of millions of Americans remain under air quality alerts.

This Song And Its Story Give Me Hope
Music has always been a significant influence on me, and this song and its story give me hope for the New Year. The year 2024 has been challenging for me, and not only because of my serious heart problem. The results of the presidential election south of the border devastated my belief that sanity would prevail and that voters would make the correct choice at the ballot box. In my opinion, they…

Ok... This got me curious bc i have a “99 Spooky Sound Effects” cd sitting on my shelf that i got at Target years ago and i went to look at it to see if “Burning Screams” was on it... It wasn’t...
It had “Metal Screams” “Piercing Pig Squeals” “Horror Screams” “Women Screaming” “Child Screaming” “Man Screaming” “Screaming in Terror” “Drilling with Screaming” “Woman Screaming 2″ “Pig Grunts and Squeals”....
HOWEVER.
It may be able to narrow down your search.

in junior year of highschool my art teacher would let our ceramics class play music of our choice off of her desktop. we usually used spotify or youtube but she did have one album downloaded on her computer. it was a halloween sound effects/ambience collection. i dont remember why she had it. there was a track on there called "burning screams" which was exactly what it sounds like. just a cacophony of screams alongside crackling fire. she only let us play it on very special occasions, and we would cheer and jump with joy every time. it was like a pizza party to us

How to Send a Letter to Canada from the USA With Correct Address Format?
Sending a letter to Canada from the USA is a straightforward process, but it requires attention to detail, especially when it comes to ensuring the correct address format. A properly formatted address helps to avoid delays and ensure that your letter reaches its destination in a timely manner. In this article, we will discuss step-by-step how to send a letter to Canada from the USA with the correct address format, including postal requirements, postage rates, and useful tips to ensure a smooth delivery process.
Understanding the Address Format
Canada has its own unique address format that differs slightly from the USA’s. Familiarizing yourself with the Canadian address format is essential for the successful delivery of your letter. The format typically follows this order:
Recipient's Name
Street Address
City
Province (Abbreviation)
Postal Code
Country
Let’s break this down:
Recipient’s Name: Start with the name of the person or business to whom you’re sending the letter. Use formal titles like Mr., Mrs., Ms., or Dr. if applicable. If it’s being sent to a business, include the department name or attention line if necessary.
Example: Ms. Jane Doe ABC Company, Accounts Department
Street Address: The next line should include the recipient’s street address. This includes the street number, street name, and any apartment or unit number if applicable. Avoid abbreviations and ensure accuracy in street names and numbers.
Example: 1234 Maple Avenue, Suite 567
City: The city name should be written on the next line. Make sure to spell out the city name fully and accurately. Canadian cities are diverse, so it’s essential to double-check the correct spelling.
Example: Toronto
Province (Abbreviation): In Canada, provinces and territories are used in the address. Each province has a standardized two-letter abbreviation, which should be written in capital letters. Here is a list of Canadian province and territory abbreviations:
Alberta - AB
British Columbia - BC
Manitoba - MB
New Brunswick - NB
Newfoundland and Labrador - NL
Northwest Territories - NT
Nova Scotia - NS
Nunavut - NU
Ontario - ON
Prince Edward Island - PE
Quebec - QC
Saskatchewan - SK
Yukon - YT
Example: ON (for Ontario)
Postal Code: The Canadian postal code is a six-character alphanumeric code with a space separating the third and fourth characters. It follows the pattern of "A1A 1A1" where letters and numbers alternate. It’s vital to include the correct postal code for your recipient’s address, as this ensures the accurate routing of the mail. Postal codes are crucial in the mail-sorting process.
Example: M5H 2N2
Country: Since you are sending the letter internationally from the USA to Canada, you must write the destination country on the last line. Write “Canada” in capital letters.
Example: CANADA
Sample Address Format
To put everything together, here’s an example of how the final address should look on your letter:
Ms. Jane Doe 1234 Maple Avenue, Suite 567 Toronto, ON M5H 2N2 CANADA
Postal Services and Rates
When sending a letter from the USA to Canada, you need to ensure that you are using the appropriate postal service and applying the correct amount of postage.
Postal Services Available: The United States Postal Service (USPS) provides a variety of services for sending letters internationally, including to Canada. These services include:
First-Class Mail International: This is the most common and affordable option for sending letters and postcards. Delivery times typically range from 5 to 10 business days.

Priority Mail Express International: The fastest service, delivering mail within 3 to 5 business days. It includes tracking and insurance up to $100.
Depending on how urgently your letter needs to reach Canada, you can choose the service that best meets your needs.
