Happy New Year
I decided to end 2024 on a high note so I went up the BDC Road to look for pikas. While I was walking up the road checking out the rocks, I kept hearing banging and clanking coming up the road. I thought maybe they were plowing the road but dismissed it. First the snow wasn’t that deep, second it was New Years Eve Day no way they were plowing today. I started back towards my truck keeping an eye on the rocks when a large bang made me turn around. Sure enough, there was the road grader plowing snow. I seem to have a knack for picking the days to look for pikas the same day they plow the road. I got back to my truck and stood there watching the rocks trying to decide if I should head out or stay and figure out how to get out of the plows on his return trip. I was just about to head out when that high pitched siren song called to me. At that point it was snow plow be danged find the pika and get the shots. I am a little out of practice finding the little fur ball but after a few minutes I found it and got several shots. After several shots the wind came up and it dove for cover. I noticed a flurry heading up the road and decided to bail myself. Never did see the grader come back.
