After being shelved for nearly two decades, The Misfits released their third studio album, Static Age, in 1996, one of the better punk albums I've heard. Most of the highs are towards the front of the project, with “Last Caress,” “Hybrid Moments,” “Teenagers From Mars,” and “TV Casualty” being my standout tracks. However, the album has a dip in quality about halfway through. Towards the end, I felt that the shock content (which is prevalent throughout the album) felt more like it was just there for shock value rather than adding anything of substance to the song. For example, “Last Caress,” the fourth song on the album, follows the story of a character who loses all care for others' feelings and commits horrible crimes in an attempt to bring attention from death, which I found interesting. In contrast, “Bullet,” the 13th song on the album, is about Jacqueline Kennedy giving lead singer Danzig fellatio over the dead body of John F. Kennedy, which felt weird and made it hard to enjoy. Despite the shortcomings, Static Age is still a great album with lots of solid songs.
