I’m trying to find a good way of saying ‘I’m glad they made Sam cry’ that doesn’t make me sound like, y’know, a MONSTER
but whenever you have a character of colour who is wise beyond their years, you run the risk of de-humanising them and not allowing them to be vulnerable in ways their white counterparts are, and I feel like as much as I love him, Sam occasionally skirts that line? in that he showed anger with both the Dubai Air protest and the whole Jamie thing, but it always passed very quickly; you always get the sense that he’s being very mature...and alright, that’s part of his character but still it runs the risk of hinting that Sam’s not really allowed by the narrative to be properly fucked off or hurt.
and here... well, he totally deserved to lose his shit and run into his dad’s arms to cry his eyes out, because the poor boy is twenty-two years old and trying his best, and he 100% deserves to be pissed off and devastated! and people more qualified than me can talk about whether they feel the entire storyline was done well or poorly*, but I’m glad Sam was allowed to be both angry and upset, and he wasn’t expected to be the bigger man or take it on the chin, he was vulnerable and he expressed his feelings and needed support from his dad and that was precisely what he needed then
(*I personally hope we have more follow-up than we got from Dubai Air because both racism directed at footballers and the refugee crisis are a real-world situations that need more focus. I also hope this episode gets brought up at every single interview Suella Braverman and Priti Patel do from now until the end of time.)
#ted lasso#ted lasso spoilers#sam obisanya#ola obisanya#uk politics#(i know that ola's 'forgive them fight forward' could kinda be read as 'be the bigger man'#but I feel like that's something parents DO#he didn't tell sam not to be angry he just said to use that anger constructively#and not let it hurt him#which is fair#no parent wants to see their child eaten up by rage)

Evening crane
I was walking home in the evening when I caught this view of a crane between apartment blocks. An ever changing skyline with new buildings is such a London theme.

NME 29/4/24 The owners of Manchester’s Co-Op Live are planning to build “the greatest arena in the world” in London.
US entrepreneur Tim Leiweke, the CEO of sports and live entertainment development company Oak View Group – who is behind the Co-Op Live – has outlined plans for a new music venue in the capital. -> full article on nme.com
lol good point
then Wednesday, two days later..
NME 1/5/24 Manchester’s new arena Co-Op Live was forced to cancel a performance by rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie last minute due to a “venue-related technical issue”.
The venue announced just 10 minutes after doors had opened that the show could no longer go ahead due to technical problems. “We kindly ask fans to leave the area. Ticket holders will receive further information in due course,” they said.

later that same day..
NME 1/5/24 The gigs were postponed following a technical issue that caused A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's show tonight to be pulled just 10 minutes after doors
[excerpt] A spokesperson for the venue told Manchester Evening News that the technical issue was caused by part of an air conditioning unit falling from the gantry inside the venue during soundcheck. Nobody was injured.

well, at least there's this new development.. (to make themselves look better :)
NME 1/5/24 The venue initially declined the levy, which would go towards supporting and developing the UK's grassroots venues.
Manchester’s Co-Op Live has agreed to meet with the Music Venue Trust to discuss a £1 ticket levy.
According to the BBC, Mark Davyd (CEO of the Music Venue Trust) said he was to meet with the Co-Op Live once the venue was up and running. The meeting comes amongst the furore with Co-Op Live’s executive director Gary Roden, who suggested some grassroots venues were “poorly run” whilst discussing the case for a £1 ticket levy to preserve them.

Pathfinders in Space (ABC, 1960)
"Now, the remainder of us have fifteen hours of oxygen left. That leaves fifteen hours in which to complete our research here."
"Well, what's the good of all that if you can't come back with it?"
"The moon never destroys her treasures, Henderson. We shall leave a record and it'll be preserved in the vacuum of the caves. And the future expeditions you mentioned, they will find it."
#pathfinders in space#1960#children's television#classic tv#abc#malcolm hulke#eric paice#guy verney#peter williams#gerald flood#harold goldblatt#richard dean#gillian ferguson#stewart guidotti#pamela barney#irene sutcliffe#hugh evans#astor sklair#michael guest#the first sequel to the seminal (and sadly entirely lost) serial Target Luna; for reasons best known to the production team‚ despite being#a direct sequel with the same characters‚ every major role was recast for Pathfinders (and so sadly we don't get to see a young Michael#Craze). often described as a precursor to DW‚ and honestly that's hard to deny: this might be the first uk kids sci fi serial to really#nail that family friendly vibe‚ with enough interest for both children and adult viewers alike. it's a rare gift that it exists complete#and finally getting to it i found it a genuinely compelling series. it can be a little cheesy and a little silly in places (adorably‚ our#astronauts take a full tea service to the moon and regularly stop for tea) but i actually ended up learning some stuff about the moon from#this 64 yr old series. Gerald Flood's everyman journalist is a nicely constructed audience avatar but it's missing cheese expert Peter#Williams who gives the orders (and regularly imperils his own children). a lot of fun! well worth seeking out for old tv fans#also needless to say the various miniatures and fx work is frankly adorable.#and shoutout to Prof Mary Meadows‚ it's nice to have a kickass lady scientist in a show this old (and who remains cooler and more capable#than her male counterparts on more than one occasion).

the very idea that the lib dems could hold Labour accountable as the Opposition is laughable, because the Liberal Democrats are champion abstainers. Don't trust them, they couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

Neurodiversity Movement & Victimhood Mentality
"Ableism: the world against me, and me against the world
This was my first intoxicating taste of empowerment born from victimhood. I was vindicated; exuberant. None of it had been my fault. All my doubts and self-hatred and guilt could be laid to rest. I had been the victim not only of circumstance and misfortune, but of oppression. The problem was simple, the solution equally so. I didn’t have to change—society did.
At the time, my new outlook seemed eminently rational, not to mention gratifying. I didn’t recognize that I had too much emotional stake in the game to perceive things objectively. The implicit dichotomy underlying the social model, which divides the world into victims and perpetrators of ableism, gave me a binary choice. I could notice the ways in which I was privileged, assigning myself to the dominant group, or I could continue to concentrate on my misfortune, convincing myself that I was innocent and helpless. I would play a constant game of sorting the world into good and bad, dominant and dominated, oppressor and oppressed. I would drift further and further from objectivity. I would grow obsessed with the injustice I saw all around me. And I would label myself the victim every timeThus, I insulated myself from even the slightest traces of disagreement.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words could force me to challenge my most dearly held beliefs and cope with the fact that I might be wrong—and that would be too much to bear"

their home has got to be cursed for real, WHO BUILT IT??? because i cannot believe after all this time they are still having so many issues. My family moved into a new build when I young and from what i remember everything was working or fixed shortly after, I wonder if they moved in too soon? But after all they went through before moving with their old apartment(s) i doubt it? And still theyve been there for years atp they could’ve build a whole new house in the time lol I feel bad for them cause it’s probably expensive too 😭
i don't think they moved in too soon. and yeah, whoever the fuck built this whole building... yikes. i wonder who they are calling to fix things as well. you know there are like, stereotypes going around London, saying that Poles are better builders than Brits? call fucking Poles, dnp. be for real. it should be better and cheaper.
#i'm not saying this because im in poland. im saying this because statistically there are a lot of poles in the uk#and a lot of them work in construction#and i'm just retelling what people who live in london say#if you need something fixed in your house DON'T ask the locals#answered#forever home

Watching the fit note speech made by the UK PM. Listen I don't really consider myself disabled. Technically I do wear glasses and have clinical depression, but I am able to function like the average person, perhaps just a little more quieter, emotional, and only seems to perk up during discussions of metal and electronic music.
But after watching that, there are definitely people in the UK government who would definitely MAiD me. It's weird.
I'm used to the angst of being marginalized as a contradictory lesbian or whatever. But like (I'm not saying the US is the bastion of mental health. There is DEFINITELY stuff going on with me that isn't being addressed.) I (personally) was able to find support for when my depression and GAD got too much, with the UK it seems like if I was in the same situation, they would leave me to rot.
