Me when I make a character who's supposed to feel dangerous and set off the alarm bells in your brain and yet again make them tall, very lanky, wiry and bony with protruding bones, and give them blond/white (usually long) hair and themes of nature/flowers:
Tumblr media
#come on this cant keep happening#to be fair Chatterbird specifically does not fit ALL of those#because shes black haired and short and her colour is red and she has no connection to nature#but i think thats because shes a mastermind and a revenge girl and not a fanatic unlike the rest#all the others are fanatics in one way or another. Zed is a fanatic. Osob is a fanatic (Osob is actually the only one who fits all of these#EXCEPT for the bony part (hes average but i suppose on the slightly thinner side) and i guess thats because hes not supposed to#feel TOO dangerous? plus hes dressed from head to toe i havent exactly thought about his body type). 'Osob' is a fanatic.#Dar is a fanatic. Adabdo is a fanatic in a way#i thought i escaped the whole deal when it came to Adabdo but you see red and wolf motif are already taken so i went with green#(her/his vallaslin) and plants/thorns because well. s/he does have a mythal vallaslin. which is deeply ironic because s/hes a thorn and not#a tree. which is the vallaslin of elgar'nan (and i probably spelled that wrong)#and uh since wolf motif is like. a thing in this game. i went with elks. because of chronic wasting disease. and antlers are sharp#and kinda creepy. and the velvet on them sheds and coats you in red. and an elk will obliterate you.#i originally went with green because well the game does push you towards that colour and also haha the green of radiation. because Adabdo i#a deeply toxic life-threatening presence. s/he glows bright green and your skin peels right off your flesh and falls to the floor#but with the addition of the elk motif it also becomes nature-related. so. i have done it once again. why does this keep happening

A More Realistic Artificial Skin May Lead to Medical Advances - Technology Org
A new bioengineered skin model could improve testing of skincare products and lead to better ways to heal damaged skin.

University of Oregon researchers have teamed up with scientists with the French personal care company L’Oréal to develop a multilayered artificial skin that more accurately mimics real human skin, and can be grown in just 18 days. The advance relies on a novel 3D printing technique invented by Paul Dalton, an associate professor in the Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact at the UO.
The research was published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials.
“This is the first known case of replicating quality skin tissue at full thickness, using different kinds of cells separated by a membrane,” said Ievgenii Liashenko, a research engineer in Dalton’s lab.
Creating an artificial skin isn’t as simple as growing cells in a petri dish. Real skin has multiple layers, with different kinds of cells that perform distinct functions. And in the body, cells are supported by an external network of proteins and other molecules. Called the extracellular matrix, this system helps cells stay in position and communicate with their neighbors, which is key to keeping all systems working properly.
To replicate this complex environment, the researchers designed a two-layered artificial skin, with the layers separated by a membrane.
A 3D printer making the extremely fine strands used to create a new generation of artificial skin. Image credit: University of Oregon
Researchers from Dalton’s lab and L’Oréal co-developed plastic scaffolds that mimic the extracellular matrix via a network of finely structured 3D printed threads. Then, L’Oréal researchers grew cultured cells in those scaffolds to create the artificial skin, with different cell types growing in each layer. The membrane prevents the cells in the different layers from mixing as they develop.
“Other attempts don’t have the same layering—it actually looks like real skin,” said Dalton, who is the Bradshaw and Holzapfel Research Professor in Transformational Science and Mathematics.
The underlying scaffolds resemble a mesh material made of many spaghetti-like threads, each much thinner than a human hair. To make the porous scaffold, members of Dalton’s team used a 3D printing technique they’ve developed called melt electrowriting. In that technique, an electric field pulls the molten printing plastic from a nozzle into a thin thread, enabling very precise control over the printing.
Some 3D printing techniques can create very fine details, but only small objects, Dalton said.
Other techniques allow easy fabrication of larger pieces, but at the expense of resolution. Melt electrowriting bridges that gap, allowing engineers to create relatively large objects with fine details.
The new skin model can be grown in just 18 days, the researchers found, rather than the 21 to 35 days it took to create previous scaffold-based artificial skin models. That makes it more viable to use in commercial lab testing.
The final product. Image credit: University of Oregon
L’Oréal is currently using the artificial skin to test cosmetics and skin care products. Going forward, both Dalton’s team and L’Oréal researchers plan to explore the many other potential uses for the underlying scaffolding in skin tissue engineering.
Other potential skin-related applications include healing diabetic foot ulcers and creating skin grafts for burn patients. Beyond skin, the scaffolds developed by Dalton’s team could support myriad biomedical applications, such as artificial blood vessels and structures to help regrow damaged nerves.
“While we’ve made this big advance with the skin, the design of the scaffold is crucial and could be applied more broadly,” Dalton said. “There are so many diseases and injuries in the world that aren’t being solved, so having an extra tool to try to tackle these is really valuable.”
The materials used in the scaffold are already FDA– approved for use inside the human body, making the path to real-world application smoother.
The fabrication facilities at the Knight Campus make it possible for Dalton’s team to scale up production of the materials, Dalton said. “This is the part of the Knight Campus projecting its expertise beyond UO to influence state-of-the-art research fields globally.”

I just finished reading the TB post in full, and its not WRONG but also sends the wrong message that TB wasn't cut down in the 50s by penicillin. Hart did quite a bit, but there is no real "cure" for TB except actually killing the TB bacterium.
You can send the TB bacterium into stasis through rest and strengthening the immune system, but that's not an actual cure because the bacterium can reawaken at any time when the immune system is no longer able to keep it in check.
I'm also violently against "it's just because rich countries won't help". NO. England!! has a TB problem!!!! Identifying TB is tricky because the symptoms are like a cold until you reach late-stage and it's become chronic. Would you go to the doctor if you had a mild cough? Would the doctor guess you had Bronchitis or TUBERCULOSIS. TB generally only 'shows' itself with compounding lung conditions too. Like the flu. Or HIV. Or COVID. And only 10% of infected people show TB symptoms.
It's even more difficult to treat TB now because people MOVE and the cocktail of antibiotics that MAY NOT WORK take two years to complete. If they work; otherwise it's longer.
TB has been around since humans evolved. It's evolved with us and it's SO much more than 'people don't want to put the money into it'. Money would help, but TB is a nasty little bitch with a whole host of complicated reasons why we can't just stab it to death like smallpox.

Please donate to Eslam family!
“My name is Eslam from Gaza, I’m 29 years old, and I’m a children teacher from Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip. a mother of two daughters, Hanaa 5 years old, and Alma, 10 months old. My husband Rasmi is the director of 3 language and training centers. In this war, our house was completely destroyed and razed to the ground, and my husband’s centers were blown up. He lost his job, and we were completely displaced, and we are now homeless and jobless, My two young daughters constantly suffer from diseases due to malnutrition and water pollution.
Danger and death surround us all day and all night. We have lost everything and depend on donations to survive and, most of all, to have any hope of escaping this genocide and evacuating to safety in Egypt. The cost of daily living continues to rise significantly in Gaza - imagine that we cannot find the type of milk for our daughter because of its high price. There is no kind of detergent and this is the cause of skin diseases for my two little girls. We bought a piece of soap for $30! ، and detergent is 100$"
As of 8:46pm November 11, 2024 (GMT+8) $31,955 raised out of $50,000

10 Health Conditions Often Found with Diabetes
This article is originally published on Freedom from Diabetes website, available here. Unhealthy diets combined with lack of physical exercise and high-stress levels are known to trigger a phenomenon known as insulin resistance. The big issue of diabetes is a damage to organs. Without treatment, it worsens and causes many health issues.
Tumblr media
10 Common Conditions That Follow Diabetes:
Heart disease Atleast 50% diabetics are suffering from the heart disease. It has some common risk. Smoking, obesity, lack of exercise, high-fat diets, and alcohol overconsumption are commonly seen in both these conditions. That also means that the measures that work to manage blood sugar levels (BSL) are equally effective in lowering the risk of heart damage. In this condition your first priority should be take care of your diabetes, and try to maintain normal blood sugar levels. So try to follow proper diet inlcuding healthy eating, low GI fruits, carbs, fiber, protein, and micronutrients like antioxidants are considered good for both the heart and BSL. Including your dialy routine exercise, meditation can help reduce stress and lower the risk of heart disease.
Joint Pain
Uncontrolled BSL can cause significant damage to the musculoskeletal system leading to compromised mobility and pain. Almost half of all adults with diabetes end up with arthritis as well. This is a result of high BSL that damages nerves and blood vessels, which goes on to erode the cartilage that cushions joints.
Muscle mass loss Everyone wants to build muscle, but it's especially important for diabetics. While walking used to be the main exercise recommended, doctors now recognize that muscle mass is crucial. Muscles burn glucose, so having more muscle helps burn more calories.
Slow-healing wounds
This is the most common symptoms of mismanaged diabetes is slow-healing wounds. Lack of sensitivity—caused by nerve damage—most often seen in the lower extremities means that cuts, blisters, and small sores can go unnoticed, becoming a breeding ground for harmful bacteria. This leads to open wounds, which the body is unable to quickly fight off owing to its compromised immunity, due to high BSL.
5.Hypertension (High BP)- Like diabetes, hypertension does not noticed easily. Many diabetics also have high blood pressure, often due to insulin resistance. Regularly check your blood pressure; if it's over 120/80, you may be at risk for hypertension. One of the primary causes of diabetic hypertension is plaque build-up on arterial walls, which is caused by high LDL cholesterol (aka, “bad” cholesterol). Losing weight is the first step in reducing risk and preventing complications. And this means, switching to a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, managing stress, stopping smoking, and reducing alcohol consumption.

Diabetes - Major Effects And Treatment
Did you know that diabetes mellitus can have detrimental effects on your body in the long run. Chronic diabetes is a condition where your blood sugar levels remain above normal levels for many years. Over a period of time thus can have negative effects on your body organs.
Following are the effects of diabetes mellitus on your body health and well-being: -
Blood vessels - They can become narrower. This leads to reduced blood supply to organs of the body.
Foot Ulcers
Itching
Chronic skin problems
Red foreskin
Gangrene
Kidney damage
Heart damage - Angina or even a Heart attack
Breathing difficulty
ED or erectile dysfunction
Recurring cold, cough and infections
Frozen shoulder
Hence it is necessary to start diabetes treatment to treat it.

Help my children
Every single day in Gaza, mothers all around me keep losing their children to either bombs and snipers or starvation and disease. I can’t shake the dreadful feeling that my babies and I might be next. This has been our reality for a year now. We have been through all types of torture and fear. We’ve been forced to leave everything we knew behind and live in constant displacement and humiliation.
Our homes were reduced to rubble in split seconds. We have been spending long nights in total darkness under the buzzing of drones and heavy bombardment. We have been through the sweltering summer heat and the freezing winter cold with no shelter but a flimsy makeshift tent. The sun kept scorching my babies sensitive skin and the rain kept drenching their fragile little bodies and ours each time it poured.
We haven’t had a proper meal or a regular shower for months. My eldest daughter keeps wishing she could go back to school and get her new bike back. She and her sister always ask about their toys, but we barely have enough to survive, and nothing but rubble is left of our old life. I even had to give birth to my now six-month-old baby in a field hospital with no anesthesia. I will never forget how painful and terrifying that was, but what terrifies me the most is the thought of losing my children and my loved ones. A crushing fear sears through my chest each time I think of it.
My children are the only thing that’s keeping me on my feet and giving me strength to carry on. I never thought that I would be begging the world to save their lives one day, but here I am now with no one else to turn to but the conscience and generosity of every human with a heart.
I know that not everyone is always able to donate, but please consider helping us in any way you can, whether by reblogging, sharing our story with friends and family, or even praying for us. With winter approaching, our situation is not getting any better, and we need to be ready and provide necessary items and food for our children to survive the harsh weather. Our lives literally depend on your unwavering support.

Please reblog and donate if you can. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.🙏❤️

I'm curious Mr Leech, what animal do you consider to be the WEIRDEST?
idk I guess the seahorse? from what I've read at least.
The seahorse has arguably the weirdest physical shape of a vertebrate, but just shape alone isn't the only way an animal can be weird, and I think maybe the weirdest animals are myxozoa??
Tumblr media
The pustules on this fish are full of an organism similar in composition to a slime mold, a parasitic infection we considered a type of "protozoan" for generations
Tumblr media
But myxozoa begin as a drifting spore, which ranges from a simple ball to these "anchor like" objects and even cube-shaped frames like in the top right here. These spores inject the slime stage into fish through a harpoon-like cell identical to the stingers of Cnidarians, like jellyfish, corals, anemones and man o' war. So eventually it was suspected that this wasn't just convergent evolution, and once we could genetically sequence living things, it was proven that this parasitic saltwater "slime mold" was an cnidarian after all, a jellyfish relative that reduced itself to nothing but bare cells. But it still gets weirder, because there also existed these weird "parasitic worms," Buddenbrockia, that ALSO came out of a spore stage, and also had stinging cells.
Tumblr media
Finally it was proven that this isn't just another weird jellyfish relative, but specifically a species of Myxozoa. This isn't just slime anymore; it has multiple tissue layers and even muscle. So this is a sea creature skin disease, but it's also an animal that dissolved into a single celled form and then re-evolved a different multicellular animal body from scratch.

Gojo Satoru Hybrid between angel and human
His hair is pearlescent and so are his wings—soft feathers, sharper than blades when he wants them to be. His halo can only be spotted when the sun shines extra bright—like a ring of stardust slowly orbiting his crown.
He doesn’t know his parents, nor which one of them was the angel. But it’s not something he cares much about. People call him Icarus, and he tries to live up to it the way he drowns himself in another’s embrace every new night—never the same one.
Never the same one until you. Another hybrid. No part of Angel, though…
He falls in love with it—all of it—the points of your teeth, the tiny horns that protrude from your hairline, the slim tail adorned with that pretty arrowhead, and the equally sharp look in your eyes as you glare at him with disgust.
He wants to know more. Do have markings in unseen places? How far does your tongue stretch, and is it split down the middle like with a snake? Is it venomous? Is it sweet? Does your skin burn to the touch like the sun does when he flies too close? Or will it be warm and soft and pliable?
He and his angel eyes freak you out. You advise him to leave you alone, the point of your tail threatening to slice his throat open. You’ve been shunned enough by humans—you don’t need to add a snooty angel boy to the fray.
But then he calls you beautiful. And no one’s called you beautiful before.
Ryomen Sukuna Hellhound
The few times humans have dared try to tame him have all been devasting days of fire and death. Silly humans, thinking they can make him do his bidding like another mutt on a leash—hell make them all burn.
But then there’s you. You’re not like the other humans. You don’t come to him with any intention of collaring him. Instead, you have your hands folded together in prayer—sweet scripture leaves your lips, soothing his singed skin until it stops burning.
You wear holy robes and a kind smile on your face, you don’t avert your eyes even as he glares at you with the embers in his own, even as he growls and bares teeth. You don’t ignore him when he speaks, either, even when his tongue comes out split through the middle and all his words reek of smoke. You bathe him in holy water and rinse the soot out of his fur—telling him he’s a good boy.
He feels no desire to bite your hand as you pet his head and stroke his ears—he just ends up wagging his tail. But then again… he is still a hellhound. And you should know better than to feed monsters in the dark…
He leaves his room in the chapel and sniffs yours out—nothing, not even so much as a seal on your door to keep him out. You have too much faith. Your door creaks open, but you remain peacefully asleep—all soft snores as he mounts you with drool dripping down his canines…
Fushiguro Toji Hunter
Rumor has it that something far worse than ogres and trolls travel the forest. Beware of the hunter—all you little nymphs, fauns, and fairies. Some say he’ll stuff you in a bag and sell you, while others argue it’s his appetite that makes him hunt—some even mean it’s just for sport, that he’ll kill and stuff you and mount your head on the wall.
You, a poor forest nymph, are unfortunate enough to get yourself caught in one of his nets. You’re a crying little mess by the time he comes around—begging him not to sell or eat or skin or harvest your wings, barely breathing between the words.
He chuckles and promises you he won’t do any of that stuff, but the smile on his face is enough to convince you he’s possessed by some sort of demon. And as he hauls you up on his shoulder and starts carrying you further into those places you’ve never dared venture, into the thicker parts of the forest where the trees all seem riddled with some type of disease—you can’t help but believe all those rumors you’d heard.
He tells you that his snares and nets are meant for rodents and that he didn’t think fae-folk were dumb enough to get themselves caught by them as he starts cutting into the net to free you—only, he doesn’t stop at the net—but goes for your slik garb next. Whistling as he bares your pretty skin while pinning your small wrists above you in one meaty hand.
His grin is sharper than his knife when he advises you not to struggle, saying he would feel awful if he were to accidentally cut you.
