Since the ask box commands to vote Bumble in that tourament (which I did, cuz she was SCREWED over to the extreme) could you talk a whole lot about BB!Bumble's dyspraxia? Since we are talking about the *everything in canon* she got for the High Crime of being a fat foreigner woman and abuse victm in warrior cats, let's talk about the universe where we add disabled to her list of High Crimes but she isnt done dirty as balls(sorry if all this is worded weird)

Plus, I'm personally having issues writing a dyspraxic character (mostly because i kinda suck at absorbing information about things like disability when not using characters as exemples) and you've really helped me in the past with making characters with BPD, so it would be personally useful in character making

All righty! BB!Bumble's dyspraxia!

First off, for newcomers;

WHY I ADDED DYSPRAXIA TO BUMBLE

In canon, Bumble is called a fat, useless kittypet, before being dragged back to her domestic abuser. She then dies while trying to survive on her own, starved to the point of emaciation before Clear Sky murders her.

A very common fandom response to this is essentially, "shes NOT useless! She could hunt/fight if you taught her!" And a lot of AUs will have her survive, learning how to be Truly Useful with all the same skills as everyone else.

I won't lie; I think that's very disappointing.

You're not refuting the rotten heart of this ideology, you're just doing what DOTC already does with Jagged Peak. You're AGREEING. You're saying she WOULD be useless if she couldn't hunt or fight like a wild cat, giving her Coolgirl Badass moments to haha embarass her bigots, and Actually the only problem here is that they didn't give her a chance.

What if they GAVE her that chance, and she COULDN'T hunt or fight like them? Would it be okay to send the battered housewife back to her domestic abuser? Hopefully fucking not!

Let's be frank; None of the groups in DOTC are starving. Not even after the prey sickness pandemic.

"Starvation Rhetoric" is an excuse, only ever rolled out by monsters like Clear Sky as justification for stealing land, murder, and throwing out cats the groups deem unworthy of life.

Yet, this gets rolled out for Bumble specifically, by the MOOR CATS, who are supposed to be opposing his ideology.

And that's where I'm starting from.

Okay. What if she couldn't perform physically like other cats?

What if she was part of a group that DID have real concerns about not having enough food?

How does Bumble herself cope with her feelings, and her desire to help her friends and contribute to a group that loves her?

Let's go through all that, and attack the heart of the idea. In fact, we're going to be doing a lot of it, with a significant portion of early ThunderClan being disabled cats.

(Thunder Storm has three legs. Bright Storm has asthma. Sunlit Frost loses the use of both front paws and ends up with chronic pain.)

Bumble's Dyspraxia

The first thing to know about dyspraxia (or DCD, Developmental Coordination Disorder) is that it comes in a LOT of different forms. The next thing to know is that it's RIDICULOUSLY common. Some estimates say 5% of the population has it-- 1 in 20 people.

It's heavily associated with autism and ADHD. The "classic" symptoms are general clumsiness and motor control issues, like having a hard time tying shoes. But these are also symptoms of dyspraxia;

Short-term memory issues, but not long-term

Being constantly covered in bumps and bruises

Having a hard time telling lefts and rights

Difficulties holding pencils or writing in general

"Wobbliness" including tripping mid-step or tripping over your own feet

Issues in the acquisition of "muscle memories," being slow to acquire physical skills.

Stuttering and taking long pauses before responding to someone else speaking

Most dyspraxics won't have all of these, these are symptoms. Not a checklist.

My partner describes theirs as like "constantly working with cold hands through a layer of gloves." The stiffness of being in a freezer, paired with the general delay of having a cover over your skin.

Mine is more focused on the mental side, acquiring new skills is unnaturally difficult, my reaction time is delayed, and I stumble into things.

Every person with dyspraxia is different, but what links us is that we're uncoordinated. We can't help it, telling us to try harder or pay more attention doesn't work. We aren't being careless-- our brains don't send signals to our bodies properly.

I'm basing Bumble's off my own. Her mate, Turtle Heart, shows her over and over how to hunt. It never sticks. She tries to pick up battle moves from Thunder Storm to help defend herself from Clear Sky's goons. It doesn't work.

She's really trying, she really is. The Moor group quickly loses patience with her, and Bumble is well aware that she's only tolerated on Turtle Heart's vouch. Her worst fears come true when Tom steals their children, and her mate is killed trying to retreive them.

That messes with her, and makes her believe that she really is worthless and a burden.

ThunderClan was FOUNDED on Thunder Storm's fury, breaking off his supporters to retreive her from exile, and Bumble's struggle with self-worth begins in earnest.

There's one thing she's confident about, and really loves. Bumble is trilingual, outgoing, and confident in her ability to talk to others. That's what she can add, and what she wants to do.

ThunderClan is different. It works with every strength and weakness of its members, and values diplomacy to keep it afloat against the odds. Bumble really is needed, but eventually even her translation work becomes less special as more kits grow up bilingual. Eventually, this too feels taken from her.

And then it's back to square one. Her mate is gone, one of her kits betrayed her, Owl Eyes is a big strong man who doesn't need his mum anymore. She's left with her fumbling paws, taking more from the pile than she puts in.

One can only hope she realizes that ThunderClan was born out of love for her. That it was never about what she could add. She didn't have to confront it in the main story because so much was happening, but as peace settles over the forest, it's time for her to start to unpack that idea.

7. One DC death you’d like to make permanent — or alternatively, one you’d erase so it never happened?

Hmmm…tough one. I’m not usually a fan of permanent character deaths tbh. Especially with my faves. But even with other characters like…they’re someone’s fave, y’know?

I guess maybe I’d say Solomon Grundy?? Granted my only exposure to him has been in JLU but I was so…bored?? I’m not a fan of the “giant hulking characters who no speak good” trope. So I guess I’d write him out 🤷‍♀️ Sorry that’s the only thing that comes to mind rn

Although the “death by fan-vote” is kinda a crummy thing, at this point in the narrative it is kinda fascinating having him brought back. It has evolved to be synonymous with his character so I don’t know whether or not I’d erase his death from comics canon. The storytelling potential is too immense 😅

Oh! I’d make it so that Aquababy (Artur) never dies. Killing him off is dumb and I hate it, so I’m reversing it.

Dick, Kori, and Wally I knew immediately. My dream team is not complete without these three. Donna has been left out of so much for far too long, and she’s Dick’s other best friend, and I just like her character.

After that it becomes a bit dicey because I have to narrow it down to seven…

I elected to have Artemis (Crock) with her YJ-characterization. I like her in the show and she’d fill the archer role since (sorry, don’t hate me) I’m not making Roy a draft pick, lol. Plus she and Wally are great together and I like her friendship with Dick.

I’m putting Cyborg on the Justice League, so he won’t be a member of the Titans. Having Garfield without Vic feels off somehow, and having Raven without BB also feels off. I like Jaime so that could be fun, plus I liked the idea of him and Kori being on a Team together (since she showed up in his comics run recently).

My last pick…might be unexpected?

I feel like most of the run would center mostly on these six. With a side-plot-turned-main-plot tying in another antagonistic figure (Red X/Red Hood) who ends up being Jason Todd. In the end of the first arc, Jason ends up joining the Team (he maintains that he works alone, yadda yadda…but he definitely joined the team 😅)

I’ll ramble a little more under the cut. I have more thoughts but don’t want this post to be too long so I’ll abbreviate it here 😁

The tone would probably be somewhere between the Young Justice and Teen Titans cartoons. I’m a big fan of YJ’s first season especially. I also like the anime influences TT had.

Maybe something similar in tone to My Hero Academia? It can be lighthearted at times but isn’t pulling its punches when it comes to the action/storytelling aspects.

I’m giving this run the “Titans” title since I don’t envision this being a teenagers story. They’re probably mostly young adults.

Dick has been friends with Wally and Donna for a long while already. Maybe Kori at the point has been on Earth for a couple years? Artemis has been close with Dick and Wally especially for several years. Jaime is the last to join the Team (until Jason) which feeds his insecurities at times. Kori is more than eager to help him through those feelings (which is how their friendship blooms)

All-in-all, I want this to be a very close knit group. I’ve always liked the idea of Kori and Wally being friends too, and Donna is canonically one of her best friends, too.

It would probably be a largely urban setting, as only one (arguably, two?) of these characters is not native to that landscape.

I think other settings could be possible at some point, teaming up with someone from Atlantis, for example. (Part of the reason why I didn’t choose an Atlantean to begin with was I was torn between classic Garth or YJ Kaldur)

AA Performances of the Decade—as voted by the gymternet

Ok some of you might remember I put together a vote for the best routines of the decade as a run-up to the Olympics, and then I TOTALLY forgot to post the final one in the series, which was favorite all-around performances. Since Tokyo 2020 isn’t happening, I thought I should go back and finish off writing out this one. For your quarantine viewing pleasure, here are your favorite all-around performances of the decade, as voted by the tumblr gymternet.

1. Aliya Mustafina (RUS)—2010 Worlds (40 votes)   VT / UB / BB / FX The winner by a LANDSLIDE. Proud of all of you—time could not erase the euphoria of witnessing the coronation of Queen Aliya. And because I know we all live for this shit, here’s Aliya+Russian anthem

2. Simone Biles (USA)—2016 Olympics (19 votes) VT / UB / BB / FX The GOAT. One of the most dominant AA showings in history.

Morgan Hurd (USA)—2017 Worlds (19 votes) VT / UB / BB / FX She is the only gymnast who has won a World all-around title since the Simone era began, though her 2017 program deserves more than just comparison. As a first year senior, facing immense pressure and Montreal’s horrible lighting, she produced a clean and consistent day, topped off by a well-executed and difficult floor routine with beautifully interpreted choreography.

4. Larisa Iordache (ROU)—2014 Worlds (15 votes) all routines Romania’s best AAer in recent years, Larisa gave Simone a run for the gold, missing out by only a few tenths. Only #TrueLegends take an extra long choreo break in the corner to decide if they should upgrade their last pass to a piked full-in, and then actually go for it in a final bid for the gold.

5. Shang Chunsong (CHN)—2016 Olympics (10 votes) VT/ UB/ BB/ FX I AM ETERNALLY SAD ABOUT THIS. She finished at a heartbreaking 4th place, just 0.116 away from bronze, reigniting complaints from 2015 about underscoring and generating the #SongsongWasRobbed movement.

6. Mai Murakami (JPN)—2018 Worlds (8 votes) VT / UB / BB / FX One of the best Japanese female gymnasts ever, Mai has been a force on the international stage since her senior debut in 2012. In 2017, she had a golden opportunity to win AA gold over Hurd, but fell off the beam and the medal podium. In 2018, she took her opportunity and won silver, showing her chops as a floor champion with a routine featuring a double double and double layout. She became Japan’s first ever (edit:)silver AA medalist (sorry i forgot u Koko), and jumped tearfully into the stands to hug her equally tearful mother.

7. Gabby Douglas and Viktoria Komova (USA)—2012 Olympics (7 votes each) Gabby VT / UB / BB / FX Vika VT / UB / BB / FX

I PROMISE I DIDN’T RIG THIS, but it’s maybe fitting one of the biggest AA controversies of the last decade ended up tying each other, head to head. Gabby, a dark horse prior to the competition, made history and became the first black Olympic AA champion. With high difficulty and clean execution highlighted by a stand-out bars routine with soaring flight elements and difficult floor routine, Gabby edged out Viktoria Komova to become Olympic champion.

And Vika. Oh Vika. Ever since her rocket to fame at 2010 YOG, she was hyped to become the next great Russian star. With amazing toepoint, gorgeous lines and huge difficulty, she seemed set to fulfill her destiny when she came first in qualifications. However, despite a strong performance including a near-perfect floor routine, she fell short of gold by just a few tenths. Curses to those extra steps she took on her vault!!

9. Aly Raisman (USA)—2016 Olympics (6 votes) all routines YES I CRY WHEN I WATCH HER FLOOR, WHAT OF IT.

10. Tang Xijing (CHN)—2019 Worlds (2 votes) all routines After spectacularly choking in qualifying and getting 2 per’d out of the AA final, Tang Xijing got a second chance when she was substituted for her teammate Liu Tingting, and took full advantage by becoming the first Chinese AA medalist since Yao Jinnan in 2011, and matching the highest result achieved by Jiang Yuyuan in 2010.
