Might just be me being a biased stan here but kinda love that Simone's career as the Greatest Of All Time was somewhat bookended by two names definitely on the list of All Time Greats the sport has seen - Aliya Mustafina for the early years & Rebeca Andrade at the end.

The Holy Trinity of Gymnasts of the 21st Century so far, the three to have a world or Olympic medal on every event, that have a full set of Olympic medals, history makers and icons of the sport.

Just the best 👑

Just stumbled across a recent interview with Aliya Mustafina, and her approach to coaching is a breath of fresh air.

What I admire most is her self-reflective style. When an athlete struggles, she questions her own methodology before anything else. Yet, she knows when to be firm, using a louder tone when necessary to correct carelessness.

"I started training three weeks later, as soon as I had finished breastfeeding. I can't say that I'd missed it. But I had a goal: to return to the sport after giving birth. My mother tried to talk me out of it, but my dad said: "Come on, let her try." At first, I found it physically difficult because gymnastics requires top physical form. While doing the toughest elements, my coach had to prop me up– I couldn't even do a kip-up on bars, something that kids do at the age of five. But I soon found my form, I remembered all the elements and by March, I was already competing at the Russian Championships. When you have a goal, it's easier."

Dave has an unhealthy obsession with Russians. Will never forget TSL's tweets before the beginning of this season, that were pure conspiracy, all the talk about the "vitamin box" Medvedeva had at TCC and that Orser and co knew about her doping, Mustafina gaining weight and so on. It was hilarious tbh.

And never forget to mention that Ilia is technically Russian 😃

I swear, if he makes it to the olympics, i can already see those 4 year fans being confused as of why Russians are allowed to compete, and real figure skating fans trying to explain to them that he is born in the US and has literally never been to Russia.
