”vote red to make America great again!”
Make America great again? Haha, more like take a fat shit on the graves of everyone who fought in the revolutionary war by letting Trump create a dictatorship and completely tear down everything they fought to stop.
Look, we all hate Joe Biden. We all wanna stop the genocide in Gaza. But Trump is gonna support Israel just as much as Biden is, so our choices are basically “genocide” or “dictatorship AND genocide”. And voting third party is just gonna increase Trump’s chances of winning, or else that would be my advice.
if you don’t want America to oppress every minority, women, people of color, LGBTQIA+, ANYTHING that’s not straight, cis, white, male, and christian, than clench your fist, grit your teeth, and VOTE BLUE.

I don't post a lot about emergency management here, but I know that somewhere, Samantha Montaro (author of disasterology) is probably screaming her head off about certain developments today
At least I know her newsletter this month will be interesting 😬

Over-sensitive
When you’re part of a marginalized group: disabled, queer, POC- you’re often advised to tolerate discomfort “just this one time.”
But it’s never just one time.
Do they think they’re the first to tell me to let things slide? Keep it to myself? Grin and bear it? I would love to have this be a one time issue. Hell yeah I’d tough it out and reap the rewards, but they’re underestimating how discrimination has bled into every aspect of my life.
I was advised yesterday that if my manager was unfairly targeting me for behavior that was not only allowed, everyone else was doing it at all times, I should just not do it. “Don’t be like everyone else,” they said. But they also said that I was over-sensitive and that this bias wasn’t real. This coworker went on to joke later that she never gets in trouble and she doesn’t know why.
See how it’s not a fair request? Because the advice she was giving was not just for work, it was for my whole life. To avoid being targeted, stay still, stay quiet, stay perfectly behaved. Forever.
But hey, maybe I’m just over-sensitive….

Eggs
I spoke with my mother again the other day. I asked her about why she made the decisions she did recently. It took her a moment to respond as she stared at the reality show on the television from her spot on the couch.
“Eggs and gas will go down.” That is why she made the choices she did. She had a problem, and her solution was not to find an alternative to eggs she could purchase. She did not think about the many family friends we have that raise chickens of their own. She did not think of carpooling, or simply walking if the destination was within our ramshackle town. She did not think of driving less to places she did not need to go to.
Instead, she made a choice. How much did these things mean to her? Were these eggs golden from the goose, was the gas thick and sweet like honey? No. The eggs were an off-white, with a little ball of protein inside, easy and quick to eat. The gas fueled her car so she would not have to walk up the road, two blocks down, to the post office.
Yet she knew this and, like many others, weighed it with a human life. Many human lives, her child’s included. My mother and I had never gotten along fully. We were nice, we were cordial. We pretended everything was fine. I was valuable to her, at least. I would be successful, and she wanted that.
I never thought I would lose to an egg.

I wish I had something hopeful to say to my fellow intersex friends about the new US administration's stance on biological sex, but I don't.
I love you all. I'm sorry things are getting worse.

I just found out that women can’t get their tubes tied until they’re 25, married, and has at least one son and one daughter, but a 19 year old dude can just walk in and get a vasectomy, no questions asked???? Wow, time to add this to the list of “Reasons I Fucking Hate My Country’s Government”. Also, fun fact, Ancient Romans used to crush a man’s testicles between boulders if he was found guilty of sexual assault. I think we should bring that back 🥰

Just told off one of my southern relatives on Facebook then closed the tab really quick cause I got a rush of anxiety lmao.
They asked, "What do you think now that the left has been exposed?"
I said, "I hope you get everything you voted for. Including me not involved in your life as a trans and disabled person"

Haircut
Growing up, my hair was long. It always had been, and it was not allowed to be cut above my shoulders. I cut it short in my bedroom one night before I began highschool. I think that for the first time in my life, that was when I finally realized I had bodily autonomy.
I had spoken to my mother before about who I was. Conversations about gender identity exploration shut down, venom of how the name I wished to use resembled that of the devil’s child. It is still the name I use in my day to day life, that chosen name. I do not care what a name means. I feel most people go their whole lives without thinking about how their first name originated. That name belongs to me now. The name I chose is mine, because I made the decision that it was.
I did not realize how important someone else's bodily autonomy meant to some people. For years I lived without my own, without a glimpse of what those words even meant before the hair fell from my scalp in thick chunks onto the off-white carpet of my bedroom floor. As someone who lived without it to some degree, unable to make a single decision on my own, it is cruel for it to not be a birthright.
The hair grew from our scalp, yet it was not our decision to be rid of it? It is not our ability to slice it off should we make the decision to do so? It is not our ability to cut our hair, to bathe, to drink water without worry of sickness, to fill the stomachs of ourselves and our loved ones, to choose what we do with our bodies that may save us, unless someone unrelated and unaffected decides it to be out right?
I never liked my long hair. I never liked when people told me how pretty it was to convince me to keep it past my waist. Pretty words are just as rotten as cursed ones if left to the same means. I think I will continue to keep my hair short.

Was someone going to tell me that George H.W. Bush was Regan's Vice President? Or did I just have to learn that from reading Booster Gold's original comic book run?
