I seldom post anything political here, but I felt that this was a good time to post this essay from 2022 on why, exactly, you can't declassify classified documents by the power of your (rat-infested) brain.

This is an important read for everyone who has to deal with the utter insanity of people who think that classified document theft is no big deal.

People believed him and thought, "He's an outsider. He won't be corrupt!"

(He, of course, went on to have the most corrupt administration with more people sent to jail than any other previous President.)

Now, he's not even pretending to not be honest. Trump is openly for sale to the biggest donors.

And those rich donors are paying ALL that money so they can make the lives of working-class people more expensive and more difficult in order to get richer.

You have been double crossed by Donald Trump. Don't worry, he does not to everybody.

The Republican presidential nominee is openly handing out favors to big donors in an unprecedented fashion.

In June 2015, former President Donald Trump infamously came down a golden escalator and declared himself the man who couldn’t be bought.

“I’m using my own money,” Trump said in the opening speech of his presidential election campaign. “I’m not using the lobbyists. I’m not using donors. I don’t care. I’m really rich.”

Trump, who did self-fund large portions of his 2016 primary campaign, would return to this theme again and again. He would run against a field of more mainstream GOP politicians, each backed by super PACs filled with million-dollar checks from wealthy donors, and then against Democrat Hillary Clinton, who many voters saw as the embodiment of a moneyed class of Washington insiders.

Now, almost a decade later, he is running as a candidate who is openly for sale. He has said he’ll offer plum jobs to major donors like Elon Musk, promised favors to oil executives, bragged to the wealthy about the tax cuts he can deliver and has even taken time away from his campaign to pitch a cryptocurrency project for his sons.

Americans can even buy DJT on the stock market, in the form of shares in the publicly traded holding company that owns his social media site, Truth Social. That company’s revenues are meager, with the share price hitting all-time lows, but it’s still being propped up by the former president’s loyal political fandom.

Okay, but, like, even if the options for US president were 1) homophobic genocidal dictator wannabe and 2) genocidal dictator wannabe, (sidenote: they're not) and literally the only difference between them was whether or not they wanted queer people in the US dead, you should still pick #2 rather than not vote, because - this may be shocking to the not-voting crowd - suffering is not inherently virtuous, and queer people in the US are, in fact, also people, and letting them suffer for your perceived moral purity is, actually, immoral.

Tesla sales are down for the first time in a dozen years. We all have a good idea why.

Tesla reported on Thursday that 2024 saw the Austin, Texas-based car company’s first annual decline in sales in at least 12 years. The decline coincided with the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, endorsing and funding Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and becoming a major player within the Republican Party. Tesla said that in 2024 it delivered 1.79 million cars, which was 1.1% below the 1.81 million cars the company sold in 2023. Back in 2022, Tesla confidently predicted that the company would grow 50% each year for the next few years. That didn’t happen as Musk went full MAGA.

MAGA just ain't good for business. Donald Trump was never the great businessman he always pretended to be, he only played one on TV – with the help of copious editing. How great can somebody be in business when he had to declare bankruptcy SIX times?

Even as Musk was openly embracing the Republican Party and its conservative agenda, polling showed Democrats—who have traditionally supported clean energy products like Tesla’s electric cars—turning away from the company. An analysis from the firm CivicScience released in July found that Tesla’s favorability dropped to 16% among Democrats, when it had been at 39% in January 2024. “He completely alienated most of his buying base,” investor Mark Spiegel told Yahoo! Finance when the survey was released.  After Trump won, many X users—including journalists, who have been the lifeblood of the site—began leaving the platform in droves.

Musk’s chosen candidate will soon be president and the multibillionaire clearly has Trump’s ear. But Tesla’s growing problems—and emerging fractures within the MAGA coalition—could be an early warning sign for the richest man in the world.

Most of us can't afford a Tesla. But if you know somebody who is considering buying one, try to convince them that Tesla is the 21st century Edsel.

I'm so sorry. Trust me, even as someone who doesn't live in America, that orange idiot has me worried too given the tariffs he's threatening will put us in a recession. Of course, for us it's small potatoes compared to the shit others in America are going through and rights they're losing because of him, but it's a scary time regardless wherever and whoever you are.

If nothing else, this is hopefully a chance for Canada to finally start inching off some of the amount of dependency on the US we have. For a so called allies, stabbing us in the back like we're nothing despite all we've done for America is beyond pathetic and hopefully when he sees us fighting back with our own tariffs, he'll back down. It's beyond disgraceful given this hurts not just us, but you guys too. No one wins here.

It's a scary time and it's likely not even begun to get as bad as it may. But even so, don't give up hope and fight back in any way you can. Idiots like him win when there is no one to fight back. And there are still good people in the US that deserve better than this and I hope they get to make it to those better days.

And when he is out in 2028, may the full force of whatever he did come back to haunt him and make him suffer!
