Watching people hold on to the flattering story of "Trump was a fascist white supremacist" is like watching someone succumb to dementia. It's not true, it's been proven wrong again and again, but they don't just hang on to it, it's like it's the only idea they can hang on to. Like they can't remember or understand anything else in the world.

Obviously not this dipshit alluded to above, but I've had friends who I had an extended conversation with about how Trump cannot be a fascist white supremacist, how all available information contradicts it, how white supremacy cannot possibly explain his victory by gaining more than any Republican among minorities, and they agree with all of the facts there, do not and can not offer any new facts to contradict them, and then like the Patrick meme, say "but white supremacy was the reason he won the election." They just go back to that idea as the default starting point for everything. It's the only thing they know in the world.
