#True Alpha Derek Hale

Today I met Tyler Hoechlin

I attended a Q&A by him and also talked to him for a few minutes (pictures will follow in the next few days).

Here's what I learned. Some of you may already know, but in case you don't. ;)

Concerning Derek becoming True Alpha at the end of Teen Wolf the Movie

Tyler said he didn't know it was gonna happen at all, and saw it for the first time when he attended the first screening. He finds it super interesting for the future, especially since he reminded us all that no character remains truly dead in the Teen Wolf universe.

(If it's baiting, it's not nice, Tyler. :P )

Concerning Eli's parentage

Tyler hinted that he knows who Eli's mother is but can't say, just in case there's a new movie in the works (which he doesn't know at present).

Being asked what was the biggest plot twist in Teen Wolf according to him

Tyler said that he didn't see it coming when Peter was revealed to be the Rogue Alpha in season one. No one knew in the cast, except for Ian who was told not long before it was shot.

When being asked which Teen Wolf character he'd like to play aside from Derek

Tyler, of course, said Stiles. XD He also said that he finds some 'Stiles-like' qualities to Clark Kent in Superman and Lois, so that, in a way, he got his wish.

When asked which personality traits he shares with Derek

Tyler answered that they shared a strong sense of loyalty, especially towards family. He also said that it was weird, in a way, because sometimes things happened to Derek in the show that had echoes in his own life, and vice-versa.

When asked what Derek's music playlist would sound like

Tyler said he'd find podcasts of barks and wolves howling; listen to a lot of Nirvana and, when in the mood, listen to Mumford and Sons.

When asked who he preferred shooting with on Teen Wolf

Tyler, obviously, said Dylan. He mentioned filming season one and thinking, while shooting their first scene together, that Dylan was going to go places.

When asked what movie/tv show he'd ask people to watch to introduce them to his work

Tyler said that he's been lucky enough to play varied characters in varied works, but that he always goes back to Road to Perdition because it has a deep meaning to him.

Also, his favourite animal is the cheetah, and his favourite colour is green. This is a man of taste. <3

All in all, meeting him was an absolute PLEASURE and I'll talk more about that in a future post. ;)

“I figured you needed a pick me up after that last one.” He handed him the cup and when Mr. Honey-Almondmilk-Flat-White-with-Whipcream took the drink, Stiles sat across from him in the cushy chair he usually took his break in.

The dude sniffed it and then took a sip. “You know my order…”

“Well, yeah. You’ve been ordering it for like, the last week when you’ve been in here.” Stiles smiled and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “I’m Stiles.”

Once again trying to draw Derek's werrewolf shift

Derek becomes a True Alpha, the most powerfull of them all, he really gained this!

I think, very simply, Derek is caught inside the Nematon.

Something will spring him free,... or Peter will do some nasty ritual and get his nephew out. 

After all, werewolves are supernatural beings, the rules of the human world don’t apply to them.

I really don't care for the "true alpha" thing, and there are plenty of other people's posts about why, but I can't stop thinking about what it does to Scott and his character.

like, seasons one and two he's constantly fighting for NO ONE to be murdered, because he believes that you can't justify it and it's wrong. fair enough. this insistence places him at odds with people he might otherwise get along with, solidifying him as an underdog. even his alliance with Derek is tenuous, as Derek sees murder as necessary to keep people safe and Scott doesn't. but BECAUSE he's an underdog he has to work with the people around him and convince them why they shouldn't kill, he isn't powerful enough to stand on his own.

but in the later seasons.... he doesn't have that??

as the true alpha, his power hinges on him not killing people. while it would be unreasonable to say that his former stance is completely GONE, pessimistic fans (like me, hello hi how's your day) can make the case that he doesn't kill because he would be less powerful if he did, at least in part. it COMPLETELY cuts the teeth off his moral argument, which sucks because the show still has at least twelve more moral arguments left.

hes also completely LOST the underdog angle. he and Derek are finally chill, thankfully, but he's suddenly the most powerful cool guy in the area, the first of his kind in years, with super special powers just for him. about a season before he lost a fight with a guy who had been a werewolf for all of two seconds. and you know how before he had to convince other people to join his side and work with his plan? yeah no now he can just yell at them and they'll do whatever he says, magic rules.

No matter how you feel about season one and two Scott, it's undeniable that he is fighting an uphill battle that just kind of plateaus as of Season Three. and I love season three, but I feel like, if it did happen, it should have been closer to the end of the show

(And for all the talk about the McCall pack being weird and unconventional, they still fall in that same power structure that EVERY PACK EVER falls into. I think it would be more interesting if they didn't and their pack is even MORE of a mess to werewolves. take, for instance, the underlying subplot of seasons 1-3 that Beacon Hills doesn't have an alpha (at least a good one sorry Derek) and is there for ripe for the taking. a big reason that Derek wanted Scott in his pack was that he didn't want to be seen as weak or targeted by hunters, even other werewolves. they don't get along but they HAVE TO or else they straight up DIE. But then in 3A they suddenly have an alpha (at least a good one sorry AGAIN Derek) and that plotline is dropped. they're still being hunted, but that anxiety about being a good enough pack is gone. which is weird, right? wouldn't you want to increase that tension?

imagine if they didn't actually HAVE an alpha. They still consider each other pack, but that's not good enough for anyone but them. especially at the start of season four? no alpha, their former alpha has gone MISSING, they haven't told anyone, they have to go get him but every second any of them is away the more their town is in danger, and oh FUCK our former alpha is a TEENAGER NOW?? AND NOW HES BASICALLY NOT WVEN A WEREWOLF??? not only having to deal with the mercenaries and Kate but also other werewolves trying to nudge into their territory?)

A fanfiction or a series (my god, a series about this) in which Eli explains (in the voiceover for the series?) just how weird his family is.

Starting with Eli's many aunts and uncles, 3/4 of whom share no blood ties with him. ( Yes, the puppy pack is part of the Hale pack. Yes, Alec was Eli's babysitter. )

( Erica and Boyd would have twins about the same age as Eli. Why would that be? I have no idea. )

( For those who love Scott/Isaac/Allison, they would have 4 children. Yes, exactly, so that 3 of them would come from duos and the last one would come into the world thanks to the magic and presence of 3 DNAs. )

(The whole pack would not live in the huge mansion that is the Stilinski-Hale mansion. Thiam and Morey would have their own place. Sheriff would have refused to move in. )

Then his cousins, of all ages, each more unusual and annoying than the last. With whom he shares the same grimaces when they learn that most of their parents have gone out with each other.

His dziadzia, who had never been angry with him for ruining his wallpaper (he had every reason to be. They were horrible drawings-) and who had taught him to lie to his tata while making him promise never to lie, understood, you little rascal, when they went to get the greasiest order in the whole fast-food restaurant. And his babcia and his abuela and his abuelo and his tias and his tios and his primos and his primas he knew only in grave form.

Finally, his dads, who look like they hate each other half the time or would kill someone if it made the other half smile. His two dads who have criminal records but brunch with the station cops once a month. His two dads who are both biologically men and who have biologically managed to have a child together.

(Eli politely asks anyone who jokes about him being his parents' little shit to fuck off. His dads told him his tata had a C-section, okay ?!)

A fanfic or series in which we discover the famous Hale Pack that has risen from the ashes and is so feared and respected. Where we discover how Eli feels so alienated from the pack he loves and cherishes, so alienated from his family. How Eli feels he's not cut out to be the next Alpha of the pack. How certain Eli is that he'll never be anything like his incredible, powerful, famous dads, no matter how many times he's told he's the spitting image of Stiles or has Derek's eyes and sourwolf face.

Eli sees himself as the boring kid in this extraordinary family, the boring offspring of a rich heir to a famous werewolf pack, a bad boy with a tragic past in his youth, a DILF today with his dad's super skills, a fair and fierce true Alpha (alive and not DEAD) and an FBI agent as sarcastic as he is intelligent, a supernatural detective in his spare time, a fearsome spark, emissary and Alpha mate. Like the good old cliché of the character with no friends but his cousins and an overpowering entourage, so beloved and popular and so much more remarkable and interesting script-wise than he is.

(Perhaps Eli never could and never will be able to shift? Perhaps being human is in part the source of his fear.)

And being the good old cliché that he is, he apparently becomes interesting when he gets superpowers. (Stiles is not at all happy that the Nemeton has chosen him to be its guardian. In fact, no one in his family seems happy. Great.)

Hot take: Scott only became a true alpha because he was fighting for his mum. The Durach was threatening the lives of all the parents (Melissa, Noah and Chris), which put Scott’s only family (his mum and his surrogate father) in danger. Because of this, he pushed himself farther than he normally would. That’s how he became a true alpha.

Hotter take: Had Cora been in danger, or had Talia or Laura still been alive and in that scenario, Derek would have done the same. He could have just as easily become a true alpha, because it’s not about power or how pure-of-heart you are; it’s about protecting those you love and fighting for others.

Why Derek has the best 'Alpha arc'

Basing this on the show and the movie too Derek had been all the 'types' of werewolves, going through at least once all the eyes colors.

Yellow: is the base color werewolves get when they are first turned or when they are born

Blue: after he 'accidentally' kills Paige in his teenage years after trying to turn her into a werewolf

Red: after he kills Peter and steal the power from him to avenge Laura who had been killed by Peter to get the Alpha status

Blue: he loses the alpha status after he heals his sister Cora form a mistletoe poisoning (he takes so much of her pain that not even the Alpha strenght can keep up and 'dissapears' in order to save Derek's own life since if they take too much pain from others they could die)

Yellow: when kate de-aged him and he was left with his eyes from before he met Paige, but he slowly regain his blue

Evolved omega: altho his eyes don't change colors he can now fully tunr into a wolf

Red: during the movie in the last scene, when Parrish burn him and the nogitsune he turns into a True Alpha

Derek went from your typical bad guy that wants revenge, power and blood to your tough gentle guy who is very wise and considerate of others.

He started off as probably one of the worst Alpha on the show and became one even for the wrong or worst reasons:

He went around biting teens to build himself a pack to help him fight the Alpha pack and two of the three he bite ended up death (yet he still care for them all but his way of teaching them their 'new nature' wasn't the best and despite it was the only way he knew he could've done something more, but since they are his betas he inevitably cares about them and from a simple pack bond it becomes something more personal, cause in the end he cared for them for who they were and loved them for just being themselves)

He killed his uncle to gain the Alpha status for getting revenge and to fulfill his greed for power (that he thought maybe could help him heal or feel fine again but it never happened)

He put others in danger to achive what he wanted (like when he got Scott and Stiles to help him kill/hunt Peter)

But from being this big crappy man he lost his powers - that he literally made a bloody bath to get - to save his sister, to save the little family he had left.

He started to understand more the people he had around and who they were, he started to care for them genuinely. He was worried sick for Stiles bein possessed, cared for his betas (whoever was left) and had more interest in ensuring his friends' safety. His FRIENDS!

He started to see people - Scott, Stiles and the others - as his friends and not someone that would eventually betray or use him and that somehow cared for him too - even if most of the time he was thrown around like a fighting doll.

And then he remained an omega and evolved into a wolf, an actual wolf and saved the day - generally speaking.

He went from 'I'm gonna kill you' to 'I care for you' which is a lot for a character like Derek. Someone who went through years of pain and sorrow, having almost no one at all to rely onto and left to deal with whatever Kate did to him and with the guilt of getting his family killed - which isn't is fault!

And then we got the movie:

He has a son, Eli, whom he loves and cares for throughout the entire movie and I'm sure he was a great dad, maybe a little strict and traditional-minded on a few things, but definitely a good and caring father

He almost get killed and when he's fine and the wound on his neck is sealed, he 'dies' protecting his son - or better to say, stepping in the way of a sword

He helps the Sheriff with cases when at the beginning he was one of the few who wanted Derek in a prison - whether supernatural or a simple prison cell

Ans then, at the end, he sacrifice himself to save everyone and gets burned alive which turns him into a TRUE ALPHA!

This whole build up of events, of development and changes, going from bad to good, from a reckless and greedy man to someone one would look up to, a wise man who had seen enough and doesn't want others to live what he lived.

And like the Sheriff said

I have never seen anyone take the kind of punishment that Derek Hale took… And kept taking… In order to protect the people he loved.

He died burning alive, he died like his family did. Burned alive.

And this is worthy of a True Alpha. He sacrificed himself for everyone's sake and after his whole life was hell he wnet through with yet again another round of pain and tears. He had to leave his son alone to save him!

And he could've just let Scott get burned and stayed with his son but Derek was so selfless that he decided to take the burden upon himself once more.

Derek is the best Alpha in teen wolf - show and movie - and he's actually worth of being called a true alpha cause he earned it over and over and over again, he learned and become better, he healed and become a better person and leader. He earned his title as True Alpha.

Derek deserved, earned and is worthy of the True Alpha status and it costed him his life and his time with his son, and for what?

The people he saw as his family and he chose them above himself.

He did it for the people he loved.

I’ve Got Your Back & You’ve Got Mine

Summary:

Two True Mates.

Derek and Stiles had faced their fair share of trauma from a chaos demon to a sadistic hunter. They were broken but they might have found a way to be whole in each other.

Derek always went to the same cafe to grade papers. Always. He always got the same thing to drink and he always sat in the booth in the far back. Yet when he went to do so today there was someone there. Derek wasn’t happy about it. See that booth had one side against the wall which put his wolf at ease with nothing but the wall at his back. It was perfect and would allow him to see any and all threats.

It helped him but nooooo because now there was some stupid kid with a beanie, and glasses sitting there with a pen in his mouth, playing with it in a way that should have been obscene. Any other time Derek would have loved to let his wolf have what it wanted with the guy but not today, not when he had over fifty essays to grade. So, he put on his murder brows and stalked over to claim his spot. Shut up, it was his spot, okay.

The man—so not a kid in any way, shape or form—looked up when Derek got to the table and offered a quirked brow, pushing his glasses back up his nose. “Sup dude?”

Derek scowled harder. “You tell me. This is my spot.”

The guy snorted and rolled his eyes as he went back to working on his laptop. “Okay then Sheldon.”

Derek growled in annoyance. “I’m serious, kid.”

The guy flicked his gaze up and his expression shifted into a glare. “First of all, I’m not a kid. I have two doctorate degrees. So back off. Second, if the table thing is your deal then sit across from me.”

Derek made a fist, his claws popping. “I don’t like having my back towards the door. So, you move to the other side.”

The guy shook his head, gripping his pencil tightly. “No! I—” Derek quirked a brow, watching as the guy swallowed thickly, his throat clicking with the action. “I-I need to sit so I can see everything.”

Derek paused at the slight bit of fear in the guy’s voice. He relaxed slightly and tilted his head, noticing something he had missed. “You’re a spark but you’ve faced the darkness.”

The guy frowned at him. “You’re a wolf and you’ve been burned.”

Derek stiffened and nodded, his stomach swooping when the guy moved over so they could sit side by side. He offered a smile of thanks to the guy’s smile of relief.

“I’m Stiles.”

Derek nodded and firmly shook his hand. “Derek.”

When their hands connected they both felt a thrumming and when their eyes locked, they flashed emerald green. They both stilled, nearly frozen with shock and yet a fountain of hope bubbled within them. Eyes that flashed in sync, that flashed emerald green, were the universal sign of True Mates.

Six months later Stiles woke up screaming himself hoarse from a nightmare in a cold sweat, shaking uncontrollably only to be pulled into a soft but firm embrace.

Derek held his mate close in a protective embrace and in the darkness, Stiles revealed what happened with the Nogitsune. He whispered to Derek how he had been possessed and was turned in their efforts to defeat the demon. However, he turned into a fox and not a wolf. Derek loved him as he was and whispered as much over and over and over again until Stiles fell back to sleep.

Not even a month later, there was a small fire in their kitchen and Derek froze. He ended up putting it out but shut himself in the bathroom, climbing into the tub fully clothed. He turned the shower on and made sure the water was freezing.

That was how Stiles found his mate. He didn’t even hesitate to climb into the tub, not bothering to remove his own clothing or caring one bit about their state. Clothes were replaceable, Derek was not.

After a few minutes, Derek opened up about the fire that had killed his family and stuttered his way through explaining what happened with Kate.

Stiles whispered to Derek over and over that he loved him and that he was safe. Once Derek had calmed down, they took a hot shower and curled up together in bed.

A year after they met they got married and moved into a new house, ready to start the next chapter of their lives.

“I love you, Sourwolf,” Stiles whispered as they made love together.

Derek smiled and kissed his mate’s nose as he locked his aventurine eyes with Stiles’s amber ones. “And I love you, Bambi.”

Two years after they met they welcomed twins into the world. They named their little girls, Coraline who went by Cora and Klaudiya who went by Diya. It had been a shock but a welcome surprise that Stiles’s had spark decided to gift the alpha wolf and the alpha mate with their own cubs.

Two years after that, when the twins were two years old, the alpha wolf and his fox spark mate rebuilt the Hale house together by hand, well, by hand, by paw and of course by spark.

Their third child, a boy they named Mikhail, who went by Mika, was born the first night they spent in their new home.

As the alpha and alpha mate, curled up together, their cubs sleeping peacefully between them, they couldn’t help but thank the goddess.

Despite all the pain they had endured, despite all the tragedy and trauma they had borne, they were finally happy, healthy, safe and finally, finally they were home.

“Are you kidding me?” Stiles asked, looking out at the beautiful waterfalls cascading into the lake in front of them.

The water shimmered shades of green and blue, which looked like emeralds and malachite glistening in the sun. The spray of the waterfall floated through the air, a cool mist clinging to their skin, making Stiles feel sticky. It looked wild and overgrown, the foliage lush and leafy, clinging to the rocks around them.

When he looked back at Derek, his skin was slick with sweat and water, making Stiles want to lick and suck his salty skin. Derek turned to smile at him and it warmed Stiles’ heart, loving how happy Derek looked.

“Just one of the most beautiful places in Croatia, Plitvice Lakes,” Derek replied, reaching out to take Sitles’ hand. “Come on. We can make it down to the water and enjoy it for a little while before we have to head back.”

“Well, we can't stay because I didn't bring my pillow,” Stiles added with a chuckle. “You know I can't sleep without it.”

“Good thing I don't plan on camping out here, then. I know I can make sure that we don't get caught, but I wanna take you somewhere nice for dinner. It’ll take us about two hours to get back to the city so we should leave before the sun goes down.”

“Good thing we got here bright and early, then.” Stiles walked along with Derek carefully and descended along the path to the water, slowly climbing over slippery rocks.

Stiles wasn't sure if this was the beautifulest place he’d ever seen, because they’d been to so many places that were so beautiful that Stiles had a hard time believing that they were real. Like Elafonisi Beach, where they’d spent a week exploring Greece and bathing in the sun. Derek’s skin was beautiful and sunkissed, while Stiles looked a little bit like a lobster for a week afterward until it turned into a light tan.

Once they were down to the water, Stiles grinned as he watched Derek strip his shirt off and toss it onto the ground on top of their bags. He openly ogled his mate, knowing that Derek could scent his arousal and he smirked as Derek unnecessarily flexed for him, but acted like it was a casual action.

Stiles stripped down to his swim shorts and carefully walked across the rocks to the bank next to Derek. “Wow…the water is so clear.”

It was unimaginable to Stiles that water could be so clear, but they’d seen oceans just as clear when they sailed around the world together. “Oh, look! Fish!” Stiles pointed and Derek smiled.

“I’m sure they’ll leave us alone when we’re in the water. Come on, let’s get in!” Derek waded into the lake first while Stiles watched him skeptically.

“There isn't anything in there that will eat me, is there?” Stiles tried to look further into the water, but it was too far away for him to see much with his puny human eyesight.

“Nothing’s going to eat you, Stiles. I’ll protect you.” Derek dipped his head back into the water and ran his hands through his hair when he was upright again. “Get in here!”

“How are you sure?! You can't see all the way over there!” Stiles said, pointing.

“Really? Get in the water, Stiles. This isn't even salt water. There are no large predators in the water here,” Derek promised with an amused look, sighing. “Get in the water! You’re more likely to run into a bear out there than anything happening to you in here. Or step on a snake.”

Stiles looked around the forest and the ground before hurrying into the water. “Why didn't you tell me there were bears! I don't even have anything to protect myself with.”

Derek laughed, wrapping his arms around Stiles when he reached him. “You have me. I’m not going to let anything happen to you. I promise.”

“You better not,” Stiles replied, wrapping his arms around Derek and drawing him in close. “Because then you’re gonna be all alone on that sailboat. What on earth would you do without me?”

“Regret all my life choices,” Derek joked, but Stiles could tell that he was being serious. “You know I couldn't go on without you. If it’s the last thing I do, it’ll always be to protect you.”

“You know I feel the same way, Derek.” Stiles' voice was soft and almost a whisper, his hand moving to cup Derek’s cheek.

The last thing he wanted to do was make Derek think about losing him. It was why he’d left with Derek to begin with, because of his injury on the job. Unfortunately, Stiles’ brain-to-mouth filter didn't always work.

And Stiles knew that he was Derek’s anchor, just as much as Derek was Stiles’. Or, well, if he was a werewolf. As much as an anchor that Derek could be for Stiles being human.

“We’ll be okay,” Derek promised, kissing Stiles tenderly. “I’ll race you to the other side,” Derek added when they parted, then laughed and dunked Stiles under the water before taking off.

Stiles sputtered as he came up, shaking the water from his face.

“Not! Fair!” Stiles shouted after Derek. “And you can't use your werewolf speed!”

But Derek was almost already at the other end of the small lake as Stiles ran his hands through his hair.

He smiled, the hot sun shining down on them and warming his skin, the cool clear water rippling around him.

This was their life. Traveling the world and being together.

It was all that Stiles ever wanted, just him and Derek and a world full of possibilities.

He dove into the water, knowing that he’d never win or catch up to Derek. But Stiles was perfectly fine with that because Derek would make it up to him later, sprawled out in the sailboat cabin, taking him apart until Stiles couldn't feel his toes and he was warm all over.

Croatia was going to become one of his favorite places in the world, full of memories.

Of him and Derek. Happy and free.

When the only chance at saving his and his friends' parents from Jennifer's ritual is to get through a mountain ash barrier, Scott has to let go of all the doubts and fears he has surrounding his future as a werewolf and what becoming a true alpha could mean for it.

Basically, what's going through Scott's mind in the moment he accepts his place and power and becomes a true alpha.

I have a theory about when Scott McCall became a true alpha.

What if Scott didn’t really brake through the mountain ash circle. Hear me out! Deaton said in season two that you have to believe [the mountain ash] will work, that spark of belief is what activates the magical properties.

When Jennifer threw the mountain ash she believed it would work so it activated the mountain ash as we can see by the glowing blue force field around her when Scott tries to break through.

Scott could have just scared Jennifer into not believing that the mountain ash would work so it stoped working and Scott broke through the barrier.

This doesn’t mean that Scott didn’t earn his alpha status. This is just me spit balling at 11:00 at night. Don’t take it personally. I just was putting the idea out there. It’s probably not true and Scott really did break through mountain ash. It’s just an idea.
