Great American Family is taking on the March family story.

“A Little Women’s Christmas,” the network’s first ensemble Christmas movie, is a contemporary retelling of Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1868 novel, starring Jillian Murray as Jo March, Trevor Donovan as Friedrich “Fritz” Baehr, Laura Osnes as Beth March, Jen Lilley as Meg March, Jesse Hutch as John Brooke and Julia Reilly as Amy March. Gladys Knight also stars and will perform her new original Christmas song, “Joy.”

The movie will air during the fourth annual “Great American Christmas.” Previously announced other titles for their 2024 holiday slate include “Aurora Christmas,” “A Christmas Less Traveled,” “Love at the Kettle,” “My Grown-Up Christmas Wish,” “A Royal Christmas Ball” and “A Vintage Christmas.”

“‘A Little Women’s Christmas’ is a new Christmas classic in the making, with an incredible ensemble cast and an adaptation of an original story that is one of the best I have read,” says Great American Media president and CEO Bill Abbott. “Louisa May Alcott was intentional about focusing on the culture of young women, their hopes, ambitions, and dreams, and it remains one of the most widely read and beloved stories ever written.”

The film, directed by Brandon Clark, is written by Dione Sheehan and Taylor Bird. Executive Producers include Hutch, Knight, Clark, Brian Bird, Tai Truesdell, Darin Chavez, Brian Williams, Charly White, Lori Overholt, William McDowell and Joyce Miller Roy. “A Little Women’s Christmas” is produced by Rodney Eldredge, True Brand Entertainment, Third Coast Film and Empress of Soul Productions.

“Little Women” has been frequently adapted for both stage and screen. In 1933, Katharine Hepburn led the first sound adaptation of the film, followed by the first color adaptation with Elizabeth Taylor and Janet Leigh in 1949, which landed two Academy Award nominations and one win. In 1994, Gillian Armstrong directed a large ensemble led by Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale and others, which landed three Oscar nominationss. In 2017 (and 2018 in the U.S.), the BBC and PBS’ Masterpiece turned Alcott’s novel into a TV series, led by Maya Hawke as Jo. Then, in 2019, Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” became a box-office sensation, and was nominated for six Academy Awards.

My Top 50 Favorite Movies

The Machinist (2004)

The Machinist is a mysterious puzzle drama directed by Brad Anderson and features an iconic super skinny Christian Bale as Trevor Reznik. As iconic as Bale's portrayal is of someone who is unhealthy and lacks any sleep, the movie is just as known here on my list at number 9. Trevor Reznik is a machinist by day and a insomniac by night and there is a reason for it. The viewer is given clues and is asked to put the movie together as each scene goes on. As things start to unravel, we see Reznik become increasingly closer to the truth in turn makes him a maniac and has a large affect on others, and of course his lack of sleep doesn't help. He seemingly only has one friend now, Stevie played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, a prostitute who starts to have feelings towards Reznik and contemplates giving up her job to be with him. However, it is up to Reznik to discover that living from your fears is worse then living with the truth and he must come to terms to what is eating away at his life. This traumatizing feature with moody colors and a haunting score leads us through a place we would never want to be in, personally.

Nine Books

Thanks to @cricketnationrise and @myheartalivewrites for the tag! I'm crap at book titles so this was a nice little journey through my Audible account.

Here we go, in no order at all:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid; I only added this book over Daisy Jones because I liked the narrative style over the "interview"/screenplay style of D.J., though I really enjoyed that story as well.

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah; Funny, thought out, interesting and a little bit sad. Definitely worth the read/listen.

So Here's the Thing by Alyssa Mastromonaco; Alyssa is one of my personal heroes. She was DCOS to President Obama. Brilliant, funny, accomplished and compassionate.

The Ravenmaster by Christopher Skaife; The autobiography of the Tower of London's Ravenmaster. Fascinating story.

The Stand-In by Lily Chu; Two women: one famous, one decidedly not. Fun story of life, friendship and love.

The King of Scars Duology by Leigh Bardugo; Is it a cheat to put a duology on instead of choosing from King of Scars and Rule of Wolves? Don't care. While Nina's story is also told, I love focusing on Nikolai and Zoya, my two faves from the Shadow & Bone world.

A Promised Land by Barack Obama; I don't think I need to explain why I love this story so much.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by She Who Shall Not be Named; Yes, the author is problematic and horrible and should not be supported, but the HP series gave me so many friends that I absolutely would not have without it. This book, in particular, introduced me to one of my favorite literary character, Remus Lupin.

Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis; Maybe I just like thinking of Ben Barnes on my TV screen but I also loved the adventure of this story and Lucy's journey.

Despite it being one of my most listened to books, I didn't add Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston because that's a given and I think most, if not all, of my friends on here know/have read the book.
