Canes News 7/01/2024: Free Agency Edition

I’ve been adding to my July playlist and so far it’s: Exile by Taylor Swift feat. Bob Iver, Bigger Than the Sky by Taylor Swift, End of Beginning by Djo, and Karma by Taylor Swift. Do we see the theme here?

Leaving

•Brett Pesce to the New Jersey Devils for 6x5.5 million

This one hurts me because he’s been a Cane for so long. New Jersey is close to where he’s from so maybe he’ll be closer to family. I will personally watch some Devils games for him

•Teuvo Teravainen to Chicago for 3x5.4 million

We’ll all need time to process this one. I thought the power of love and friendship would be strong enough for him to stay. I will check in on some games for him.

•Brady Skjei to Nashville Predators for 7x7 million.

My sweet beautiful prince I only knew you briefly but I loved you. Glad he’s going to Nashville though because I actually watch a lot of their games when I can.

•Stefan Noesen to New Jersey Devils for 3x2.75 million.

I’m not surprised he’s leaving. But are he and Haula going to survive the same locker room without killing each other.

Staying

•Jaccob Slavin 8x6.5 million

The extra “C” stands for Contract Extension. Love this move and am glad to see that he’s in for the long haul

•Jordan Martinook 3x3.05 million

We can all sigh in relief knowing the Marty Party is here to stay. I love him and he seems like such a great locker room guy.

Signing

•William Carrier for 6x2 million.

I don’t know the guy but this seems like a steal. He won the cup with Vegas and is a defensive forward. Solid bottom 6 guy who should hopefully fit right into the system.

•Eric Robinson for 1x950k

Eric is an undrafted free agent who began his career in Columbus. He was most recently with Buffalo. At 6’2” and 211 pounds I could possibly see him as a 4th liner or adding depth to Chicago.

•Tyson Jost for 1x775k

Drafted by Colorado in 2016 and plays Center. Can’t say I see the vision here especially with some iffy stats. However I don’t want to ever start making judgements about potential players until after a few games.

•Sean Walker for 5x3.6 million

Another undrafted free agent who began his career with the Kings. He was most recently in Colorado. He's a defenseman and only played 18 games last season. The buzz around him is pretty positive!

Other Notable Things

•Jarvis and Necas have not been signed as of yet. Eric Tulsky has said in the past that there is a deal in store for Jarvis. He said today that they are talking to Necas' agent about what will work best.

•Shayne Gostisbehere has been linked to the Canes but I have not seen an official announcement of signing as of yet. If we get him for what is being rumored, his and Walker's AAV will be less than Skjei's AAV with Nashville. I'm into this kind of budgeting.
