This is Sam Nordquist. He was a transgender man who was lured to my hometown back in September by his Internet girlfriend. She and four other individuals then proceeded to torture and kill him, leaving his body in a field. I'm absolutely gutted. The misunderstanding for the trans community that leads to this sort of hatred is something that I just will never understand. I'm so sorry, Sam. You deserved so much more than this.

Right, considering the current state of corporate politics on this site, and that it seems that only those affected seem to be actively speaking on the matter, this needs to be dragged out to a wider audience.

This extends to refusing to believe in bogus call-out posts for frankly minuscule thinks such as being horny or kinky, especially if the target is presenting in an ‘unconventional’ manner, (therians, etc.) this double standard where it is seen as ‘degenerate’ for transfemmes to merely exist in certain spaces, yet everyone else is fine to do so is disgusting and part of the reason for the backlash.

i used to be a powerlifter.

i wasn't anything special.

i mostly lifted for the sense of accomplishment.

i realized i was a girl in 2021. it was a wonderful and disastrous epiphany.

that same year, while i was warming up, i overheard the gym owner speaking with a client.

'i don't understand this transgender nonsense.'

'delusional men shouldn't be competing against real women.'

i spent the rest of my gym session in silence,

and cancelled my membership the next day.

i haven't been to a gym since.

when i see headlines that read 'why are there no trans women competing at the olympics',

i think about that moment in the gym 3 years ago.

i think about how much it takes for an athlete to be competitive at that level. years of effort, thrown away because people can't handle the existence of a trans woman.

i think about the fact that the criteria for 'acceptable woman' is deeply racist and transmisogynistic, and how often marginalized women (particularly those at the intersection of these forms of repression) are viciously harassed for non-adherence to an absurd and harmful standard of womanhood.

all of these things are interconnected. bathroom bills, crossdressing bans, women's shelters that turn away trans girls. sports are just another avenue of public life that we are being systematically shut out of.

maybe someday, i'll get a chance to compete as a powerlifter again.

i'm not holding my breath, though.

It is funny. Recently I had a transphobe argue to me, that "well, it is all made up! Animals will still not know that you identify as a man". Which to me is so funny, because while there has never been extensive research done on this topic, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence showing the exact opposite.

As someone who has done a lot of work with animals, I can tell you, that those animals that for one reason or another like one gender more or less than another often show the same loving or hostile behavior towards people completely depending on the gender the people actually identifies as.

"Sure," some people might say, "because if you take hormons you gonna smell like the gender to an animal." But that is the funny part. Animals often act according to that with trans adults who are still in egg mode. Who have not come out yet. And nobody knows why and how they can tell.

But some of the harsher animals with a "gender preference in humans" are like the best trans indicators. You have not admitted to yourself you are a guy? Yeah, this cat is gonna hate you anyways. Because this cat hates men.

Someone anonymously messaged me to tell me that writing about detrans folks makes me a traitor to trans people, because all detrans people want to push conversion therapy on us and forcibly detransition us.

That’s precisely the kind of narrative that ends up pushing detransitioners into the arms of TERFs and the religious far-right.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with detransitioning. Sometimes people realize that transitioning no longer suits them, or never really did. And that’s fine.

When we systematically push them away regardless of their politics, we make people feel like the only places they can get support are among transphobes. That’s not a good thing. Building de/trans solidarity is an critical tool for disarming anti-trans movements.

Nebraska hasn't passed a single bill this year because one lawmaker keeps filibustering in protest of an anti-trans bill: 'I will burn this session to the ground'

Damn. I thought she was just gonna up and make a fuss and her swearing to protect trans kids was a bunch of empty words (again).

But no. She's one-woman filibustering the entire Nebraska legislature into a complete standstill until they agree to protect the rights of trans kids.

She was 100% serious when she said she'd make it as painful for everyone as it is for trans kids. Gahddamn.

This is why small elections matter. She's not a country wide senator or president or shit. She's just a local official representing District 6 in Nebraska.

This is why the "smaller" elections between the presidential elections matter.
