unironically, reading asunder has made me think of a way to give suhani more of a purpose beyond origins that isn't just "finding a cure" that allows for better flexibility. and she will have a lil wisp friend along with barkimides. truly living the dream

Another day, sipping lazily from a large crystal jar of liquor, watching the world outside my window slowly ascend into darkness, seemed too monotonous. The sky bled into shades of dusk, painting everything with a cold indifference I had grown all too familiar with. It was tedious—repeating my days over and over, the same ritual of dull comforts that failed to soothe my restless mind. I had been circling the drain of my existence, a prisoner of habit, slowly driving myself into hysterics.
I once believed these walls were my sanctuary, that within this grand and gilded cage I could find solace, but now they felt more like a tomb, preserving my decay rather than protecting me from the outside world. The shadows in the corners grew longer with each passing hour, whispering at the edges of my consciousness, taunting me with the life I could have lived—if only I had the courage to break free.
I had to leave. I had to tear myself from the suffocating grasp of this place I had, until now, considered my home. The thought of it clung to me like the thick, heavy air of the room, but it was no longer comforting. It was oppressive. The world outside may have been uncertain, chaotic, and full of unknowns, but even that felt preferable to the stale repetition of a life half-lived. Standing, I poured the last of the liquor onto the floor, watching it pool beneath my feet like spilled time. I would not wait any longer. It was time to escape this gilded prison and step into the unknown—whatever darkness lay beyond was surely better than the one I had trapped myself in here.
Swiftly, I moved with conviction, storming down cobbled alleyways and narrow streets. The air was still crisp and carried the strong scent of rain. Throughout the town, tall iron street lamps cast a soft, amber glow over the cobbled roads, their bases slick with moss. The lamps flicker in the evening breeze, creating pools of light that offer a gentle respite from the gathering twilight. In the distance, a pub bustled with loud chatter and the soft buzz of music.
Up against the wall, there she was, a sight for my terribly sore eyes, draped against the wall smoking a cigarette. Her skin had a quaint red undetone from the heat leaking out of the pub and the almost invisible freckles that dotted the apples of her cheeks gave her the youth that I pined for. My sharp gaze raking down her body. I watch her dark, silky hair gently swept by the hands of the wind out of her tiresome face. I notice her gaze inspecting the slim cigarette between her equally slender fingers. I study her short babydoll dress, the way the fabric drapes over her limbs. Long lashes framed her sparkling doe eyes and the slope of her nose made her look delicate, almost porcelain.
Her entire aura weaved together an abundance of daydreams inside my desolate mind. The bittersweet longing was short when I remind myself I was stood in the open, gawking. Tinged with uncertainty, my desire was supressed as I apparate into the shadows. If she saw me, what would she think? That I'm some monster? I wish I could devote my undying loyalty to her right there, tell her sorrowful eyes that she was safe.
With each step home, the weight of the world felt unbearable, heavy and unyielding. Light rain began to dust the pavements, making everything slightly damp. The sound of my boots scuffing against the pavement echoes in the stillness, punctuated by the distant buzz of the pubs that lined the streets. The walk felt endless as the cold wind bit through layers of my clothing, it mirrored the chill in my heart , eviscerating any glimmer of hope I had. The trees that surrounded my chateau, stripped of their leaves, stood like sentinels, silent witnesses to my sorrow.
Dragging my feet along, I ended up back inside my dwelling, the empty halls lacking something I didn't even know I needed.
I ran my fingers along the gilded banister as I ascended the stairs, the once-luxurious texture now felt cold and hollow beneath my touch. The chandeliers that once bathed the space in a warm, inviting glow now hung above me like ghosts, casting only faint light that barely illuminated the path ahead. As I reached the landing, I paused, my gaze lingering on a painting that adorned the wall—a portrait of some long-forgotten ancestor, their eyes full of the life I had long since lost.
I continued down the hall, my footsteps muffled by the thick carpeting. The grandiose décor—the velvet drapes, the antique furniture, the intricate woodwork—seemed gaudy now, like relics from another time that had no place in the hollow existence I had created. I passed the library, the room where I had once spent hours upon hours lost in books, trying to escape the weight of my reality. But even the thought of opening one of those old, dusty tomes now felt exhausting. I had long since run out of words that could save me.
Reaching my bedroom, I hesitated before pushing open the door. The room was as I had left it—pristine, untouched, but it carried the stale scent of abandonment. The bed, with its soft, inviting sheets, suddenly seemed like a trap, a cocoon where I could once again lose myself in the monotony of sleep and wakefulness. The thought of lying down, of succumbing to the same cycle of emptiness, was unbearable.
