Courage is not a survival instinct. It is an act not often seen in the animal kingdom. Protecting offspring, or asserting dominance tend to be the occasions it’s seen with wild animals. But humans have long been stubborn, and frankly, kinda dumb when it comes to courage.

Yet, courage is contagious as well. In ancient battles, soldiers looked to their leaders to find them bravely charging the enemy on the battlefield, it filled them with strength. When outnumbered gladiators took on opponents in the arena it filled the crowd with awe. When John Hancock wrote his name first in large print it gave others hope.
