TRAFALGAR D. WATER LAMMY & DONQUIXOTE ROSINANTE; Poster talk.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Lammy is around fourteen (14) years old in this comic, while Law is around eighteen (18))
An AU where both Lammy and Cora are alive and works as marines⁉️ Damn!!
I think that Lammy's opinion on Law in this AU is going to be a mix of confusion and anger.
Also!!! I'll be very happy if someone could help me find a name for this AU (I suck at finding name ideas)!!

Lost And Found
Chapter 2: Part 2
Notes:
SURPRISE! PART 2! ENJOY <3
~~~~~
Lammy was certain her life couldn’t get any weirder.
She came from a rich town, got really sick, was almost a victim of genocide, almost died anyway because she was still really sick, and then became a doctor! Weird! Okay, it was “traumatic,” but that never stopped her!
She had finally settled down, content to disappear on some random island where no one knew her real name. One couldn’t be too careful, of course.
That all changed when her famous pirate brother almost physically ran into her one day.
Lammy couldn’t believe her eyes! She knew that there was a large chance that the Trafalgar Law who was raising hell on the sea was also Trafalgar D Water Law, her beloved older brother, but she didn’t think they’d actually ever get to meet! She figured that she would just hope that he would continue to survive in this crazy, messed up world and not meet an untimely end.
And then he asked her to join his crew! Lammy was so stunned she didn’t know how to respond. After sleeping on it she realized that she never wanted to let her brother go again, not after everything. So she became a criminal! A very cute and nervous criminal!
Lammy was woken up by a loud snore. She opened her eyes and stared at a large, furry lump. The Heart Pirate’s resident Mink snored loudly throughout the night and it was so different from what Lammy was used to. She was used to sleeping in her own room in her own apartment and definitely not a community bedroom.
She sighed and stared up at the ceiling. She listened to the sound of the crew breathing and snoring. This was going to take time to get used to. She wondered if she’d sleep at all tonight. Maybe she just needed to convince herself that it was just like having a fan. It was all just background noise, right?
Well, it was sort of, kind of, maybe true. Lammy did fall asleep, it was just hours later, way into the very early morning. She heard the crew start to wake around her but she drifted in and out of consciousness while they did so. They wouldn’t mind if she caught up on some sleep, would they?
That question was actually answered pretty quickly because while the crew had no problems with her sleeping in, their captain did.
Law woke her up with an amused raised brow. She half-glared up at him, somewhat delirious from her lack of sleep. She couldn’t stay annoyed at him, however. They were just reunited after all.
So, she tiredly got out of bed and slipped into her jumpsuit. The jumpsuit that everyone was required to wear, of course. She trudged to the bathroom to brush her teeth and do her hair. After braiding her long hair she walked towards the cafeteria to eat breakfast.
As she approached the room she started to become anxious. This was her first breakfast on the
Polar Tang. She wasn’t quite sure what to do. Sure she had dinner the night before but this was different. Everyone crowded around her the previous night, unable to believe that, yes, she was Captain Trafalgar Law’s long lost sister. They had asked her so many questions about herself that she wasn’t sure if there were any questions left.
But honestly, what made her nervous was that she had no idea where to sit!
She stopped at the entrance of the cafeteria and saw everyone being loud and rowdy. Lammy stared at them all as they happily ate their meals. They were an excitable bunch it seemed. She really had no idea what to do.
She heard a giggle and saw Ikkaku smiling at her. She patted at the spot next to her. Lammy let out a relieved breath and sat next to her. She cleared her throat and Ikkaku giggled again.
“This must be very different from what you’re used to,” Ikkaku said with a bright smile.
Lammy nodded. “Yeah.” She looked around the room. “None of this is what I ever planned on seeing or happening.”
Ikkaku laughed. “Well, I can definitely relate to that. I never planned on leaving my island but then Captain and everyone showed up and, well, here I am!” Lammy smiled tiredly at her. Ikkaku blinked. “Are you okay?”
“Huh? Oh. Yes. Just a little tired. I didn’t sleep well last night.”
Ikkaku brought her fingers to her chin. “I suspect it’s because you aren’t used to sleeping around people, right?” Lammy nodded. “I’m sure if you ask Captain he would give you a separate room so that you can sleep alone.” Ikkaku smiled at her kindly.
Lammy looked at her hands before making fists. “No. I’m a Heart Pirate now. I want to be with all of you. I definitely don’t need special treatment anyway.”
Ikkaku giggled. “Well, you’ll be spoiled by Captain either way, I think.”
Lammy chuckled. “You think?”
“Definitely!”
Lammy and Ikkaku talked for the entirety of breakfast. Lammy felt a warmth in her chest, happy that she had made her first friend on the Polar Tang. Halfway through breakfast, Law sat at the table they were at. He was quiet, he never spoke other than a comment or two. She wasn’t sure if it was because he didn’t know what to say or if he was just enjoying being at the same table as her and therefore didn’t feel like talking. Lammy didn’t mind, she was happy he was there, too.
Everyone started to finish their meals, placing their dishes in the sink and filing out of the cafeteria to do their duties. Hakugan and Uni went to the sink and started washing the dishes, it was apparently their turn to do so. Lammy shifted, not sure where to go from there. Law said her job was “doctor” but she really didn’t see any doctoring needing to be done. So what was she supposed to do now?
Penguin sat next to Law and they both stared at her. She cocked her head.
“Yes?”
“We need to get your physical done,” Law said dryly. “It's a requirement.”
“Yeah, you said that.”
“Penguin will be doing your physical,” he said and took a sip of his black coffee.
“Penguin?” Lammy questioned. “Are you a doctor, too?”
“Nope!” Penguin grinned. Lammy stared at him, growing nervous.
Law sighed. “He’s my “head nurse.” I’ve taught him everything he needs to know. He’s perfectly capable of doing your physical today.”
Lammy hesitated. “Not that I don’t believe you,” she started. “But why aren’t you doing it?”
Law looked uncomfortable. “I don’t think you want me doing…everything that’s required.”
“Everything?” She questioned.
“Everything,” Penguin said. “Captain is quite thorough in his exams. For you and Ikkaku, that means a breast and pelvic exam.”
“Oh!” Lammy nodded. “Yep, that makes sense,” she chuckled nervously.
Penguin stood up. “Shall we go?” He grinned at her.
Lammy nodded. She followed after Penguin and Law followed her. It didn’t surprise her that Law required multiple tests and exams. She was sure he wanted to make sure that everyone was in their best shape that they could be and she was even more sure that he didn’t want anyone on the Polar Tang catching something that was preventable.
They stopped outside of the infirmary and Penguin turned to them.
“You can go in, Lammy. There’s a gown on the bed and a cup for a urine sample. Go ahead and get ready while I wait out here.” Penguin raised his brow at Law. “Are you going to wait out here like a puppy dog?”
Law scoffed and rolled his eyes. He sipped his coffee and let out a breath. “I trust that you are capable,” he said stiffly before walking away.
Penguin snorted and turned to Lammy. “He’s like that. Go ahead and head in.”
Lammy nodded and walked into the room. She walked across the sterile floor and towards the bed. She looked around the metal room. It was hardly warm and inviting. Cold metal, testing equipment, sterile surgical tools – this was very different from the clinic she used to work at.
She started to take off her clothes and sighed. She didn’t give a proper goodbye to the staff. She just left in a hurry, hoping to catch her brother before he left. She didn’t regret it, of course, but she wondered if there was a better way to do it. Maybe she could’ve asked Law for another day. Then again she was hardly thinking when she rushed up her pirate ship, she just wanted to be with Law.
As Lammy was sitting on the bed, Penguin knocked on the door. She looked over when he opened the door.
“Ready?” He asked.
Lammy nodded.
Penguin walked over to the counter and put on some disposable gloves. He walked to the bed and collected her urine sample and set it aside. He picked up a clipboard and a pen. He grabbed a rolling stool and rolled it over to the bed and then sat on it.
“You’re a doctor, so you already know what all I’m going to ask you and what all I’ll do. Don’t be nervous. Captain was right, I know what I’m doing.”
Lammy nodded. “So, Law makes everyone do this?”
“Yep. He’s a neurotic and anal person about a lot of things but the two main things,” Penguin held two fingers up, “are his crew’s health and cleanliness.”
“Yes, I’ve noticed how everything on the sub is quite…clean.”
Penguin laughed. “Yeah. He can’t stand messiness. He’s a bit more relaxed with the crew quarters, of course. That’s where we sleep and relax so he’s more willing to let it be untidy, but the rest of the Tang? Must be spotless.”
Lammy nodded.
Penguin started the exam, never once making her feel uncomfortable. He was gentle and kind. He asked the appropriate questions and did the exams properly. Lammy was quite impressed, but she supposed Law had to be a good teacher if Penguin had no previous medical skills and learned everything from him.
After Lammy had put her clothes back on she walked up to Penguin with a smile. “You did a great job,” she told him.
Penguin blinked before grinning. “Well, thanks! Captain did teach me almost everything but I did have to add my own little flair of bedside manner.”
Lammy giggled. “I suspect my brother isn’t the best at being a warm and loving doctor?”
“Nope! He’s good at the medical part of being a doctor, not so much at the warm personality part. That’s alright, though. We love him anyway.” Lammy grinned widely at that. “You’re free to go, Lammy. All of your test results will be ready tomorrow but I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about.” He took off his gloves and tossed them in the trash. “Captain wanted to see you after the examination, so you’ll want to find him. He’s probably in the control room.”
“He wants to see me? Do you know why?”
“I suspect I know why, but I don’t want to give you the wrong info so you’ll have to let him tell you.”
Lammy hummed. “Alright. Well, I guess I’ll see you later.”
“Sure will!”
Lammy left the infirmary and walked towards where she thought she remembered where the control room was. She walked down the empty hallway, the hum of the Polar Tang following her around. She stopped at the entrance to the control room, where she saw Hakugan and Law talking.
Lammy took a step into the room and both men looked over to her. Law smiled at her awkwardly. She couldn’t tell what Hakugan was doing on account of the mask. She took in a breath.
“Penguin said you wanted to talk to me?”
“Yes.” Law patted Hakugan’s shoulder before walking towards Lammy. He walked out of the room and motioned for her to follow him. “I wanted to ask you how you defend yourself, or if you even know how?”
“Uh, pepper spray?”
Law sighed. “That’s what I figured.” He stopped and turned to her. “You’ll need weapons training.” He started to walk again.
Lammy stood with her mouth agape before clearing her throat and catching up to him. “Weapons training? You want me to fight?”
“No.” He looked at her. “But you’re a pirate now. There’s going to be fights and I can’t always protect you. You’ll need to defend yourself in case I can’t.”
“I guess that’s true,” she mumbled. She followed after him as he led her to the hatch door. “What weapon are you going to teach me?”
“The weapon is up to you and what you’re comfortable with. You can use anything we have to offer.” He opened the door for her. Lammy walked out and saw Shachi standing on deck with a sword. “As far as the training goes, the crew has decided that I will not be training you.”
“What? Why?”
“Because he’ll be too busy worrying about hurting you to properly train you,” Shachi answered for Law with a laugh.
“I will still monitor your progress and get you the weapon you want, but I have been apparently overruled,” Law grumbled with his arms crossed.
Lammy swallowed nervously. She looked at Shachi and then to the side where there were weapons set aside. There were a couple different types of guns, a spear, a short sword, brass knuckles, and a quarterstaff. She felt like she was in some fantasy novel where her mentor was telling her to pick her path or something like that.
“Don’t look so nervous!” Shachi laughed. “I’ll work you hard but I’m not an ass!” Lammy nodded, not feeling any less nervous. “The first thing we’ll need to do is get you fit and flexible. No point in holding a weapon if you don’t have the oomph behind it!”
“Uhh, right…” Lammy nodded. That made sense. She was…out of shape. She just didn’t get much exercise is all. She kept telling herself that she needed to start working out but never did, opting to read a book in bed rather than go on early morning walks. “Where do we start?” She asked innocently.
Shachi grinned at her in response.
It really could have been worse. Probably. Maybe.
First, she stretched and loosened up. Easy enough. Then Shachi had her run laps around the deck so many times she lost count. Then there were jumping jacks. Then there were squats. Then there were pushups. And then there were, ugh, lunges. And this was only day one!
Lammy laid on her back on deck, staring up at the cloudy sky, sweaty and tired. She didn’t even have the chance to look at the weapons let alone pick one up and choose one. Shachi had gone inside, bringing the weapons in and letting Lammy rest before taking a shower. Lammy felt a breeze roll across her sweaty skin. Her once neat braid was a complete mess and stray hairs blew in the wind.
She heard the door open and then a giggle. She looked over to see Ikkaku walking towards her with a bottle of water. Ikkaku sat down next to her and offered her the water. Lammy gratefully took it and sat up. She sipped and then sighed out.
“I’m not sure I’m cut out for this,” she said.
Ikkaku laughed. “You know, I said the same thing. Shachi works you hard, but you’ll get there. You just gotta get through this first very sore bit.”
Lammy sighed. “I guess I will be sore, won’t I?” She mostly said that to herself. “What weapon do you have?”
“I have a sword,” Ikkaku proudly said with a big grin. “You know what’s a good way to rest off a workout?” Lammy shook her head. “A nice hot shower and some warm chocolate chip cookies. I had Clione make you some when I found out Captain was having Shachi train you.”
Lammy almost burst into tears not only because Ikkaku was being so sweet and kind, but because the idea of warm chocolate cookies sounded amazing. Ikkaku giggled and stood up. She offered her hand to Lammy. Lammy smiled and accepted the help, already feeling the aches and pain of what was to come.
They walked into the sub and into the crew quarters where Lammy grabbed some clean clothes. She walked to the community showers and took a very nice, hot shower. She washed and scrubbed her body and shampooed her hair. She redressed and wrapped her hair in a towel. She blinked a few times, realizing she was truly exhausted.
Ikkaku grinned at her when she emerged from the showers. They walked to the cafeteria together. Clione saw them walk in and greeted them.
“Well, hello ladies!” He said from the stove. “The cookies are good and ready to go! I made ‘em special for you two but don’t go tellin’ no one. Don’t want ‘em thinkin’ I treat you girls special.”
Ikkaku took Lammy’s hand and pulled her to the cookies. “Don’t worry, Clione, your secret is safe with us…and Captain.” Clione laughed. “What’s for dinner tonight?” Ikkaku asked before bringing a cookie to her mouth. Lammy followed suit and grabbed a warm cookie.
“Glad you asked my curly haired friend! Captain and Bepo managed to fight a giant octopus earlier this mornin’ so I’m making karaage and takoyaki with some rice and veggies of course. We need to be eatin’ our grains and vegetables!”
Lammy’s mouth watered at the idea of takoyaki .
“That sounds great, Clione!” Ikkaku responded happily. She turned to Lammy. “How’s the cookie?”
Lammy swallowed. “It’s really good.”
“Of course it is!” Clione said. “It’s got my special ingredient in it!”
“What’s the special ingredient?”
“Love.”
Ikkaku snorted and lightly punched Clione in the arm. “Don’t tease her.” Clione laughed in response.
Lammy watched her two crewmates laugh together. They seemed so happy with their lives and so happy to be around each other. Lammy felt herself smile, she hoped that she could be this happy with her crew one day soon.
Ikkaku and Lammy took a couple cookies each and left Clione to focus on dinner. They walked to the crew quarters after finishing their cookies. Ikkaku walked to Lammy’s bunk and stared at it.
“Next time we stop at an island, we’ll need to get you some things to personalize your space,” she said with a nod.
Lammy looked from her to around the room, noting that every bunk did have its own personality and style. She looked back to her bunk and almost laughed at how bland it was.
“Did Law choose the gray bedding?” She asked with a smile.
“Sure did!”
Lammy giggled. She supposed she could have brought more of her things from her flat. In fact she probably should have, but she was so determined to get to Law before he left she hadn’t thought about it. She really did just leave her entire life behind.
She sighed with a smile. Oh well, no point in dwelling on it. She’d much rather be with her brother than anything else.
Lammy sat on the bed, her muscles aching and her bones creaking. Her whole body and mind slowed down almost to a stop and she realized she was very, very tired. Shachi really did work her hard.
Ikkaku giggled. “Best not fall asleep quite yet. You still need to eat. Captain is already strict when it comes to everyone getting their appropriate meals, I can’t imagine how he would be if you skipped a meal.”
Lammy yawned and nodded. “You’re right. I don’t want to miss out on takoyaki anyway.”
Clione called everyone to dinner. Lammy shuffled into the kitchen with Ikkaku. Everyone was in high spirits again, happily eating their fried octopus dishes. Law was sitting down with a book and a beer, eating his food between turning the pages of the book.
The takoyaki was amazing. It was crispy and had just the right amount of everything. Lammy was going to bed with a full, happy stomach. The crew started to drink and sing songs around her. She smiled and rested her chin in her hand. She didn’t know any of the songs but it was hard to fight such a warm feeling in her chest.
The Heart Pirates seemed like such a happy bunch. It was a nice change of pace to her life.
Lammy excused herself, causing the crew to whine and complain that they wanted her to stay. Shachi laughed and boasted that he did a good job training her if she was this tired. She said goodnight to the crew and walked to the crew quarters alone. She somehow made it to her bunk and collapsed on the bed face first. She took one, two, three deep breaths and then she was out like a light.
Lammy woke up sore the next day. So incredibly sore. She sat up slowly and breathed out a whine. She heard chuckles around her and looked around.
“Shachi always works everyone so hard!” Uni said. “Don’t worry, Lammy, you’ll get there!” Resounding agreement followed.
Lammy felt it hard to not smile at the crew. She let out a breath and stood up on her shaky legs. She couldn’t remember the last time she felt this sore. It had to have been…Lammy swallowed and shook her head, ridding herself of the memories of Flevance. No need to fill her thoughts of worse times, her life had improved so much! She was happy now!
Ikkaku stood next to her with a smile. “Want to go get ready together?”
Lammy and Ikkaku walked to the community bathroom together. Ikkaku asked about Lammy’s life. How did she become a doctor? How did she like her coffee? Did she leave a boyfriend behind?
Lammy blushed at that last question causing Ikkaku to burst into laughter.
“That’s probably for the best. Captain gets really scary when he wants.”
“I can only imagine.”
Ikkaku smiled at Lammy in the mirror as she finished brushing her hair for her. After Lammy pulled her hair into a bun they walked to the kitchen together. Clione had already prepared breakfast and most of the crew was filling their plates with bacon and cute “toad in a hole” egg toasts.
Lammy sat next to Law, ready to dig into her meal. She raised her brow at her brother’s food. Unlike the most of the crew he had a bowl of rice with a runny sunny side up egg. How curious. Did her brother not like toast? She asked him quietly, not sure if this was some odd quirk he had developed over the years.
“No,” he said simply. “I don’t like bread.”
Lammy cocked her head, remembering a time where they happily ate fresh raspberry jam on toast in the morning with their parents. She watched him eat his rice silently, either not noticing her blatant stare or choosing not to care. She chose not to pry, her brother’s tastes were not her business. Besides, people lose interest in food all of the time. Nothing to truly dwell on.
Ikkaku sat in front of the two siblings with plenty of bacon. Law raised his brow at her and she stuck out her tongue. Lammy blinked between the two of them. More food habits? Interesting.
Lammy looked around the room and saw everyone had a different way of plating their food and the amount they had. Some had more bacon while others had more eggs. Some had chosen rice and eggs while others only chose toast and bacon. There were different drinks, coffee, milk, orange juice, and even tea. Lammy wasn’t sure why the different breakfast habits astounded her.
She supposed she still wasn’t used to being around so many people. 20 something people all at once wasn’t what she was used to, especially when it came to living with people. But she would get used to the chatter and noise. She’d get used to the different ways they took their eggs and coffee. While it was different, she was sure that she would grow to love this crew and be comforted by their presence.
“What kind of food do you like, Lammy?” Ikkaku asked as she brought a piece of bacon to her lips.
“Uh, all kinds of food. I’m not really picky.”
“Well, you have to have a favorite, right?”
“Hmm, well I’d have to say curry. Yellow curry with shrimp.”
“Noted!” She heard Clione call.
Ikkaku giggled and Lammy smiled. Lammy and Ikkaku spent the rest of breakfast chatting while Law silently ate his meal while reading the newspaper. As everyone finished breakfast they piled their dishes in the sink and the dish washers got right to work, just like the day before. Ikkaku waved goodbye as she walked to the boiler room. Everyone started to walk to their posts happily. Lammy watched everyone leave the kitchen when she felt a smack on the back.
She turned and saw Shachi grinning at her. She felt true fear in that moment, knowing what was coming next.
Over the next week it was like clockwork. She’d wake up, be greeted by the crew, Ikkaku would join her in the showers where they talked about whatever came to their heads. She would eat breakfast with Law and whoever else decided to sit with them. Shachi would train her, working her until she was sure her legs would fall off. After training she would help any crewmember she could with chores or their jobs, happy to get to know her companions.
Sometimes there would be a minor injury and she would join Law in taking care of them. It was a good way to get to know the infirmary, Law’s healing skills, and her crew all at once.
There were a couple times where the Polar Tang would be attacked by some giant sea monster but Lammy was always inside when that happened. She never got a chance to see anyone fight. Law made sure she wouldn’t see a fight until she was ready.
One day Lammy and Shachi discovered that her weapon of choice was a spear. She liked the weight of the weapon and the way it felt in her hands. Once Shachi accepted that, he told her that Penguin would be training her from that point on as he also used a spear in fights. Lammy was a little relieved, maybe Penguin would go easier on her than Shachi. He was always so kind to her.
She had started to really get along with the Heart Pirates. They had taught her sea shanties, started to get her used to the ale they drank, and she became a quick expert in fishing in the deep sea. She had started to feel like this was her true home, like she was born for this.
The one thing that was off about this whole pirating thing was that it was still very awkward between her and Law. He seemed like a busy person. He always had a nose in a book or newspaper, he regularly had ink from a pen on his fingers, the dark bags under his eyes told her that he didn’t sleep much, and he always looked…a little sad.
She wanted to talk to him. To sit down with him one day with a cup of cocoa and just talk about their lives and the time they were apart. She wanted to know everything about him. Why he always seemed to focus on something serious, why he always seemed like he was forlorn. She just didn’t know how to approach him. Unlike his joyous and outgoing crew, he was reserved and serious. From what she remembered of their childhood, he was like that back then, but he was happy. They both were.
“What’s on your mind, Lammy? You’re distracted,” Penguin asked as he crouched down to rest. He wiped his brown with his gloved hand and let out a breath.
Lammy sighed. “Well,” she started. She gripped the spear in her hand before releasing it. “I want to talk to Law.”
Penguin cocked his head at her like he didn’t hear her. “What do you mean?”
“I mean…we just haven’t really talked much since I joined his crew. I want to talk to him, to learn about his life. He’s my brother and I want to know who he is and how he grew up.”
Penguin rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “I see,” he said. “I’ve known him a long time, so I think I know what it is. He’s probably anxious around you.”
“Me? Really?”
“It’s more complicated than I’m making it sound. He’s complicated. I think he doesn’t want to disappoint you by who he became over the years.” Lammy pulled her knees in front of her and rested her chin on them. She sighed. Penguin smiled at her. “I think if you tell him you want to spend time and talk to him he’d do it. He’d just be awkward about it. It takes a little time for him to open up, but I think for his precious little sister he would.”
Lammy smiled back at him. She opened her mouth to respond but was cut off by noise coming from inside the Polar Tang. Lammy’s ears perked up at the sound of muffled distress. Her eyebrows scrunched together as she looked at Penguin with a confused expression. He sighed and scratched the back of his head.
“I think someone was acting up again.”
Lammy’s face contorted into even more confusion. “What do you mean?”
“You’ve never seen Captain’s powers, right?”
Lammy shook her head. “No.”
“Well you’re about to get a crash course.”
“What do you-”
Lammy was interrupted by the hatch door being swung open. Lammy jumped at the sudden noise but Penguin didn’t flinch. She looked over and gasped when she saw Law with an annoyed look on his face holding the distressed head of Shachi.
“I said I was sorry!” Shachi exclaimed.
Lammy stared at the scene in stunned silence. How was the head talking? How was this possible? What did Law do?
Law’s upper lip curled into a snarl. “Not good enough,” he said. Law looked over to Lammy. She bit her lip as he walked over to her.
Law had grown so tall. He towered over her. He was much taller than she remembered their parents being.
She looked from Law’s face to Shachi’s head. “Um…” she managed to get out.
“Apologize,” Law said and held up Shachi’s head to Lammy’s face. “Now.”
“Alright!” Shachi cried. “I’m sorry, Lammy.”
Lammy blinked twice. “For what?”
Shachi looked uncomfortable. “For saying you have nice tits.”
Lammy sat there, too stunned to speak. Penguin let out what she could only describe as a “guffaw” and Law made a disgusted noise. Shachi gave her a nervous toothy grin. She swallowed.
“Ah,” she cleared her throat. “Thanks, I guess?”
“For saying you have nice tits or for apologizing? Ahh! Don’t squeeze my head so hard!” Shachi exclaimed with comical tears in his eyes.
Penguin laughed at his two friends as Lammy looked between the three of them.
“Um, for apologizing,” she said quietly. She looked up at her very annoyed brother. “Law, you didn’t…have to…”
“What? Defend you? Of course I did. I don’t need anyone saying shit like that about my sister.” He brought Shachi up to his eye level. “Are you going to be good?”
“Yes.”
“Then I will return you to your body,” he said conclusively. Law reached out and petted Lammy’s head before turning around and walking into the submarine while Shachi whined to him about being cruel.
Lammy stared after them in silence. She turned to Penguin as his laughter faded away. He wiped a tear from his eye and had a broad smile. Lammy swallowed.
“He can take off people’s heads without them dying?” She asked, already forgetting about why he had done so.
“Not just heads, any body part. He can take out organs, take apart bodies, he can make electricity form in his hands like a defibrillator, and a lot of other things. It’s a very unique power.”
“Oh, uh, wow. He said that he had eaten his fruit when he was 13 but I never asked what powers he had.”
Penguin grinned. “That! It’s called the ope ope no mi. The reason he’s so good at using it is because he’s a doctor. It’s said that the user can cure any disease.”
Lammy blinked before opening her mouth in shock. “That’s how he was cured of Amber Lead. He performed the surgery on himself.” Lammy grimaced at the mere idea of the amount of pain he had to have been in.
Penguin nodded. “Yes.” He smiled at her. “He’s come a long way, hasn’t he?” Lammy nodded thoughtfully. “Well, what do you say? Want to get back at it or are you wanting to head in?”
Lammy looked at the spear that Penguin was offering her. She reached out and took it. “I still have energy don’t I?”
Penguin laughed. “That you do!”
A few more days of training went by. Lammy’s hands were bruised and blistered but her arms had begun to have definition and she was starting to become more confident in herself. The crew…the crew was good. It was hard to believe they were pirates and not just jolly sailors. Perhaps it was the encouragement of Ikkaku and Penguin or perhaps it was her new found confidence, but she finally, finally was able to knock on Law’s door and ask to spend time alone with him.
He stared at her from his strangely messy desk. He looked so tired that Lammy started to wonder if he was getting enough rest. He also seemed skinny, was he eating enough? She started to really take in her brother. She had been so busy acclimating to her new life and friends that she realized that she hadn’t really spent much time with her brother. She never really looked at him.
He cleared his throat and agreed to take a break with her.
Lammy was holding a mug of hot cocoa with marshmallows in her hands while Law nursed a black coffee. They silently sat on deck, staring at the sea. Both of their nerves were glaringly obvious. What to say to your long-lost brother who had trauma and a fear of abandonment?
Law sighed. He sipped from his mug. “I don’t mean to avoid you,” he started. “This is all very weird. It was harder than I thought seeing you everyday. You look like Mother.”
Lammy swallowed and looked into her mug. He was right. She did resemble their mother. Just like he looked like their father. It was eerie. There were enough differences, of course, but Lammy definitely felt an ache for her father when she saw her brother.
“Yeah,” she said. “I get it.”
“It’s also…” he trailed off. “I have this guilt in me for leaving you in that closet. When I see your burn scars I see how I failed you,” he admitted. Lammy opened her mouth to tell him how ridiculous that was when he continued. “But I’m also glad you didn’t share the same fate as I did. Joining the DonQuixote Pirates probably wasn’t my best decision. I would’ve hated for you to go through what I did.” Lammy sat silently rubbing her mug with her thumb. “I did have Cora-san to thank for my life. He was…” he trailed off uncomfortably.
“He seemed like a special person,” Lammy said.
“He was,” Law said with a deep, sorrowful frown on his face.
Lammy reached over and placed her hand on his arm. He looked at her hand to her face. He sighed. “Well, I’m not much. I still have things to get over and things to learn about being a pirate, but I want us to get along and be family again.”
Law stared at her sadly. ““Not much?”” He questioned. “You’re everything I could’ve hoped for.”
Lammy blinked. Her bottom lip wobbled at his admission. Her eyes became blurry with tears. “I want us to get to know each other more!” She managed to get out. “I don’t want to just be siblings. I want us to be friends, too.” She sniffed.
“Me too,” he said before clearing his throat.
Lammy laid her head on his shoulder and ignored the tear falling down her cheek. She gave in to the anxiety in her stomach and asked what kind of pirate he was. He hesitated but then told her what it was like being a pirate. The fights, the battles, the unruly sea, and the threat of death always looming ahead. He told her of his plans for Doflamingo.
Then he told her about Cora-san and how much he cared for him. He told her about how he picked up every Heart Pirate and took them in. How they all became a family of misfits who no longer fit into normal society.
It was dangerous and it was violent, but it was also romantic. She saw it. She saw what pirating was about. It wasn’t just about treasure or fighting or good seafood. It was about the freedom that only the sea could provide. It was about nakama and finding your place in the messy world.
As Law spoke to her, Lammy started to understand why the crew was so dedicated to him. Even after everything he had been through, he still held some childlike wonder for the sea. He held a passion for his work, not just as a captain but as a doctor. Lammy could see it. She could feel it.
She now knew she had made the right decision to follow Law. She knew she wouldn’t regret coming along on his journey. She didn’t feel out of place on the Polar Tang. She had made friends – family. She didn’t feel out of place or like she didn’t belong. Her crewmates had welcomed her with open arms, ready to accept her.
When Law and Lammy had finally stopped being sentimental and crying together, they wiped their tears and walked towards the kitchen. They were greeted by their crew, complaining they were late for dinner. A large smile grew on Lammy’s lips as she grabbed Law’s hand and walked forward into the kitchen, ready to eat with her family.
As already teased: here is the first chapter of my friend @deuslexlmachina and my fanfiction! We did our best and there is a lot of passion in it.
Here Trafalgar D. Water Lami survives Flevance and by sheer luck finds a way to stay alive. She will witness some parts of the main story, but mostly has her own path and will meet many familiar characters.
The first chapter is just a teaser what's to come! We are very excited to post it and hope it will find the right people. :)
Siblings of Water
If all my years of reading One Piece has taught me anything it’s A) remember minor characters, and B) always check for a shown corpse.
6211 words; set post-Wano but also pre-whatever-the-flip nonsense our lads are in at the moment; if something like this ever went down I would freaking scream and idk if anyone in a five mile radius would survive; we need more good blood-siblings in this series because as of this posting the best blood-siblings have been, like, the Ryugu royals and two sets of Wano sibs unless I’m missing someone don’t try to lie to me about any Charlotte shenanigans (though really this has the side-effect of tons of adoptive siblings/found family that are excellent and I admit I am greedy and want it all); one of the most sensible and natural real-world equivalent languages for Law to probably speak is Northern Low Saxon you can’t change my mind I’m not getting out of this chair this has little to do with the fic but it is important to me; we also need Trafalgar Family angst so here we are; this is my 200th fic on FFN and that’s not only pretty cool but my 20th fic was also my first One Piece fic and that was even well before these jokers showed up in the story so idk what that says about a lot of things
Siblings of Water; After their adventures in Wano, the Heart Pirates stumble a quiet island that holds a very jarring surprise for their captain.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“Nuh-uh; you’re coming with us,” she said. She was standing in the doorway to his cabin, completely not-caring that he was giving her an absolutely murderous look from his position reclined on his bed.
“It’s festival season—I’m not going,” he replied. He tried to look as though he was going back to the highly academic tome of Magicks and Poshuns of Wano and Her Dauters, though in reality, he was simply trying to hide a copy of Sora, Warrior of the Sea from everyone’s prying eyes.
“You were barely at any of the parties in Wano.”
“I was obliged to attend in a nominal and symbolic manner,” he countered. “I’m all festivaled out.”
“Yeah, where you were there for five minutes before wandering off.”
“I enjoy wandering.”
“Wander the festival.”
“I can’t be guaranteed there shall be other adults there.”
“We’ll be there.”
“I know.”
Narrowing her eyes, Ikkaku made an extremely executive decision and stepped into the cabin and grabbed onto Law’s ear, tugging until he closed the book and got out of the bed. She pulled him through the submarine—to the shock of all their crewmates lingering just outside in the corridor—until she had him above deck and down the gangplank and on solid ground again.
“Now, you are going to go with us to the festival, and you are going to enjoy yourself, and you aren’t going to use wandering as an excuse to make your way back here,” she demanded. The rest of the Heart Pirates watched from atop deck, wondering whose will was going to win this time.
“It still doesn’t mean I want to,” he growled.
Ikkaku crossed her arms across her chest, unfazed. “Bepo!”
“Yes, ma’am…?”
“You’re in charge of making sure Law stays out here!” she said. The bear blanched.
“Now that’s not entirely fair,” Law noted.
“It’s fair,” she reasoned. “Stay with us, you’ll be fine. Try to run away and you’re getting sat on by an ass full of fur and Electro that also happens to have you wrapped around his little claw.”
“I am not.”
“We all are and you know this.”
A beat.
“I hate you.”
“You need to touch grass more often, you weird hermit-man.”
“I just touched a lot of grass for an extended period of time, thank you.”
“More often, dweebus.” She then glanced over at the rest of the crew, who shivered in response. “Let’s go, lads! Fun awaits!”
“…but what if someone tries to steal the Tang?” Law asked. Bepo walked up to him and put a comforting paw on his shoulder.
“No one other than Ikka can get the thing started properly,” he grimaced. “Sorry, but, we’re stuck.”
“We were able to work it before she joined up.”
“That was before she made the modifications. It’s mostly anti-theft measures, but if we’re the thieves…”
“I should have left you all on Strawhat-ya’s deck like orphan puppies.”
Bepo didn’t respond to that, which only made Law sigh in resignation.
“Okay, yeah, I’d never do that.”
“Glad you’re aware.”
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Festivals always made Law feel extremely uncomfortable. It reminded him of a time when he would rather study than anything else, sending a searing pang of guilt ripping through his heart. It all reminded him of then, of them, and he was doing his best to seem as disaffected as possible while still trying to figure out a way to speed-chess his way back to the Tang without any repercussions.
Well, at least the beer was decent. It was actual beer at that—Wano had fine native brewing traditions, but none of them resulted in beer. Law found himself huddled over a tankard of stuff leagues better than whatever swill it was that Kaido imported as his crew held him hostage in a picnic area, with them taking up two whole tables on one end, while a band set up on the other end near a stage. Stalls boxed in the varying picnickers and festival-goers alike, which made the particular pirate captain skittish.
“Relax,” Ikkaku smirked into her own beer. It was her first; Law’s third. “You look like a cornered cat.”
“I feel like a cornered cat,” he scowled. Bepo brought over another pile of soft pretzels for the table, which Law wordlessly shambled into bits with ease. Maybe he could get away with wanting to go back in another hour… “Whatever happened to a captain’s veto?”
“It’s because the captain knows that I could have either pulled him by the ear, or the earrings.” Ikkaku popped a bit of pretzel into her mouth and nodded—not bad. “Besides, it’s quality time with just us. It’s been a while since it was just us, all together, no other weirdos in the mix.”
“Yeah, come on, Cap,” Penguin chuckled. “You know, this is why you don’t get laid.”
Shachi choked on his pretzel bite so badly that Law had to get it out.
“Can we please save talk of my non-existent love life for, oh, I don’t know: never?” Law growled.
“All I know is that you’re Emperor material and got nothing to show for it,” Penguin noted. “You could be slaying anything you wanted, as much as you wanted.”
“I hate this conversation.”
“Our captain doesn’t seem like the ‘slaying’ type, though,” Clione offered.
“I really hate this conversation.”
“Yeah,” Penguin nodded, “you’re right—we’d need to recruit whomever it is to the crew, just so they can get to know each other first, then we let them on private shore leave.”
“I swear if this conversation goes on any further I am going to put up the biggest Room I can and drop you in the ocean.”
“You’re in luck, grumpass,” Ikkaku said. She pointed at the stage. “Looks like someone’s coming up to talk—she’s got a transponder snail.” Sure enough, most of the picnic area went quiet, waiting for the person that Law was flat-out refusing to look at out of sheer principle.
“Hi everyone!” a cheery woman said into her Den Den, voice amplified by the tiny snail. “For those of you visiting today, my name is Milla, and I’m one of the island’s resident doctors and chairwoman of this year’s festival!” She paused to let people clap, during which Shachi whistled lowly.
“Oooh, she’s a cutie,” he noted.
“…and probably too smart to be taken in by your dumb ass,” Penguin chortled. The pair kept elbowing one another as the chairwoman continued.
“I just wanted to extend a very warm welcome and thank you from the rest of the committee and island to you,” she said. “Festivals are one of the things that really keeps us going here in the Grand Line, punctuating our seasons in a way that the weather is incapable of doing. It was the same in the town where I grew up, in an icy Blue far away from here, though for different reasons, of course.”
“Huh… she’s from the North?” Hakugan wondered. Despite the fact Law was the one who rolled his eyes, it was Ikkaku who replied.
“The South Blue’s cold too, you know,” she said. She patted Law’s forearm, feeling that his muscles and tendons were tight under his shirt as he held the ale tankard. “Relax.”
“Festivals… really aren’t my thing…”
“You tried that—now stop being so tense and just enjoy some time out of the fart-box.”
“Now,” the chairwoman said, “I’ll sing you a song from that sea to officially open up our festivities. It’s an old one, but it has always warmed my heart after all these years. The music’s not the same, so bear with us, please, if you heard it before. Alright! Hit it!”
The music was slow at first, haunting and eerie—something very out-of-sorts for an otherwise-bright festival. It twisted and turned and reached deep into the crowd that was barely able to contain its excitement. The Heart Pirates mostly gave the chairwoman their attention, the entire orchestra silent except for a singular violin. Then another joined in, then a piano, and finally, the chairwoman herself in words just barely familiar to the Hearts. The North dripped from her voice as she sang a ballad of old heroes and exciting tales; a song of heartbreak and death; a tale of life and what horrors it brought. After the following chorus, the orchestra picked the tempo up slightly, bringing more instruments into the fray.
“Are you alright, Captain?” Ikkaku wondered. The Heart Pirates all looked at Law and saw that he was deathly pale, as though he was sitting across from a ghost instead of Uni. His hands—always surgeon-steady—were trembling and he was chewing on his lower lip.
Adjusting slightly, Law turned so that he could see the festival chairwoman as she continued her song. His eyes went wide and his breath hitched—no… it couldn’t be…
The very image of his mother stood atop the stage.
“Law…? Hellllooooo…” Penguin waved his hand in front of his captain’s face, failing to break him from the trance. “Oh, shit, this isn’t good.”
“Do you think maybe they sang this back where he’s from?” Clione asked. The crew at-large did not know much, but they did know better than to say the White City’s name aloud.
“Why else would he behave this way?” Shachi frowned. He tried snapping his fingers next to their captain’s ear—nothing. “We’re gonna have to take evasive action if this doesn’t stop.”
Then, suddenly, Law stood up, facing the stage and the chairwoman on it. He stared at her, eyes now resolute, watching her as she finished the chorus. His standing there was not out of place, as there were still many around and in the seating areas who were milling about and moving from stalls to tables, yet there was no one else who proceeded to do what he did upon the next verse and an additional strengthening of the tempo…
...Trafalgar Law started singing.
Heart Pirates and villagers alike began to stare, wondering about how he knew this song. His crew’s jaws all dropped at the sound of his singing voice; low and clear, it was one that invoked the idea that he might have even had training at one point—when in the hell did their captain sit with a vocal coach?!
As he continued to sing, Law began to walk up towards the stage. The festival chairwoman saw him and skipped a line of verse, though quickly collected herself and pretended to beckon him up to share the microphone snail with her. They reached the chorus and the band picked up the tempo again, the song now fully becoming cheerful and vibrant and full.
“I’m sorry,” Bepo squeaked, slackjawed, “but in all my years of knowing the captain, this is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.”
“I think this is the weirdest thing any of us have ever seen,” Shachi replied, “and we literally just helped take down two Emperors and an authoritarian regime.”
“He’s smiling,” Ikkaku marveled. “Holy shit he’s smiling… and no one’s about to die.”
“I… don’t feel safe,” Jean Bart muttered. His smaller crewmates all unanimously agreed—there was something that did not feel right about this entire thing, as though their captain might have been in a trance, or in some grave danger.
“Oh, no, he’s dancing,” Shachi groaned. The acute sense of horror that set in amongst his and the other Hearts’ very souls was palpable. “None of this is right. They replaced the captain with a fake…”
“It might be he never found the opportunity before…?” Bepo offered.
“The opportunity to folk dance?!”
“Oh, sorry…”
One more round of the chorus and the song ended, with Law and the chairwoman laughing while taking their bow together. The Hearts watched as their captain ducked down and whispered something in the woman’s ear, her expression startled as she took him by the hand and dragged him off the stage.
“Let’s give him fifteen minutes,” Penguin decided. “If this isn’t resolved by then, we’re going to have to take evasive action and get him back to the Tang for a debrief.”
“What if she’s killed him by then?” Uni asked. Penguin shrugged.
“Maybe Straw Hat’s accepting applications…?”
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Still completely stunned, Law allowed himself to be dragged throughout the backways of the festival by the chairwoman. She hid their path behind stalls and tents as she ducked into a small tent, which was occupied by some other festival officials.
“I need to question this man,” she said firmly. The other two looked at each other, then at her.
“He knew the song,” one noted. “That was a pretty neat trick you pulled.”
“Yeah, and I need to talk to him about it, because random people here just don’t know near-extinct folk songs from the North Blue,” the chairwoman frowned. The other two shrugged at that and left, promising that they would not be disturbed. Once they were out, the chairwoman muttered lowly as she drew the flaps, making it so no one saw them either.
“You know,” Law stated in Northern, “I could honestly say the same thing about you.” He watched as the chairwoman spun on her heel to look at him and he felt an intense sadness creep over him again. This woman, wearing his mother’s face, able to sing a song he hadn’t heard in over fifteen years… it was a sick joke.
“Say it again,” she demanded. “What did you say on the stage?” He exhaled heavily
“I am the Law, you are the Lam.” He watched as her face went pale at the words. “You called yourself something else though…”
“Milla—it’s what I go by thanks to… you know… our name being dangerous.” She watched as he pulled off his hat and scratched at his scalp. Tears began to form in her eyes and her voice grew strained, croaking. “I… thought I forgot what Dad looked like… but he just looked like you.”
“…and you look like Mom.”
“Really…?”
“Yeah.”
The two siblings stood there in the tent awkwardly until Law quietly opened his arms, allowing his sister to crash into a hug. They both cried as they held each other, neither wanting to let go, nor wholly believing it was real.
“Lami… I thought you died.”
“I thought you died, Law,” she replied. “I saw what was left of your classmates… the Sister’s habit… I thought you were already taken away and buried.”
“No one severely hurt me, not physically, but I did get out to the countryside in one of the carts,” he admitted quietly. “When I got back to the hospital, it was in flames, so I did what I could to survive.” He held her at arm’s length and marveled at the fact they were even there. “How did you get out?”
“There was a man who came in before the fire and took me and some of the other kids; they probably would have taken you too had you stayed,” she explained. She then hesitated, wondering how to continue. “What do you know about a place called Punk Hazard?”
“More than I should,” he said lowly.
“We were taken there by the man from the hospital. He said that he was in charge of a program under Dr. Vegapunk meant to cure us, make us better. There was a doctor on the team who knew Dad and she started on me first, since my case was the most severe.” Tears were now streaming down her face in earnest. “She took it all out of me, Law! It was as if it never happened!”
“What did she do? What happened to the rest of the children? What…?”
She shook her head.
“After it was proven I was fully cured, she was killed for the Devil Fruit power that she used to do it, and all of us kids ordered destroyed as evidence. I only survived because her son, one of the nurses, smuggled me out.” She had to brace herself by holding onto the back of a chair. “Sorry… just… the very fact you’re alive right now and we’re talking… I…”
“Lami, my name has been all over the papers—I have one of the highest current bounties of all pirates—how did you not know I was alive?”
“I read medical journals, not the newspaper,” she defended. “Close I get is my coworkers leave me the comics section.”
“I have bounty posters.”
“I have literally been here the past five years, becoming a resident doctor and pouring my heart and soul into this place. If it happened during that, then I don’t know what to tell you.”
“That’s another thing,” Law noted. “Since when were you interested in being a doctor? I last saw you when you were five and you wanted to be a unicorn when you grew up.”
Lami shifted uncomfortably. “Like I said: I thought you were dead.”
He shook his head, a laugh on his lips. “Then you’re going to love what they call me.” A newspaper caught his eye and he picked it up; yes, it was the most recent edition. He found the bounty posters hidden inside and took out his own, passing it to her. She blanched as she read it, realizing exactly what it was her brother had become.
“‘Surgeon of Death’,” she read aloud. “Then you became a doctor too…? Just like Mom and Dad…?”
“At first I really just wanted to kill and destroy as much as I could after leaving Flevance, but by the time I had been cured, something had shifted.” He then looked at Lami, eyebrow raised. “How did the doctor on Punk Hazard cure you?”
“Devil Fruit,” she shrugged. “A twitch of her fingers and she could take me apart bit by bit without it hurting. She could even take things out of me without opening me up. Never did learn what it was called… but that doesn’t matter, because the Government I’m sure has it now, having a crony use it to make Pacifistas or something equally as horrible.”
Law shook his head and quietly opened a Room that surrounded her. “I wouldn’t say that.” He disassembled her right arm and she gasped, completely taken aback. “It must have slipped from their fingers, but I hear that it ended up in good hands.” He put her back together and she started to sob uncontrollably. She didn’t even resist when he pulled her into another hug, feeling more like they were children again than anything.
Then, without warning, Lami stopped making sound.
It wasn’t as though she stopped crying—oh no, she was still sobbing, borderline violently in fact—but as far as making noise? Completely quiet. He stared at her in silence, only to realize something: the entire time they had been in the tent, there was no audible evidence that they were in the middle of a festival.
“Lami?” She looked up at him and froze, realizing what had happened.
“Oh, I’m sorry,” she sniffled. “I’m usually much better at controlling that.” She cringed as her brother grew gravely serious, as though everything relied on her answer to his next question.
“Since when have you been able to use a Devil Fruit?”
“Since I was about… I don’t remember… eleven…? Twelve…? I wasn’t paying attention because I was studying while traveling—thought it was a fancy apple.” It then hit her that he got her to unknowingly out herself, to which she scowled. “How could you tell it was a Fruit and not something else?”
“The man who saved me had your Devil Fruit,” he said. Law went to the tent flaps and looked outside—he couldn’t hear a thing until he psychically stuck his head out, retreating quickly. “I had no will to live, and then… he stole me from a pretty dangerous place too.”
“Then maybe, somehow, they both knew that we had to live in order to meet one another again… to give our names back their meaning.”
Law simply held out his hand, Lami staring at it warily. “Will you come with us, then? We could use a tactical advantage like you.”
“…but I’m not good at fighting.”
“…but you are good at this.” Law gestured with both arms at the tent surrounding them. “How long is the festival?”
“Until tomorrow night.”
“Think about it—we can afford to relax for another day.” He held out his hand again. “At least come meet my crew…?”
“Later; I’ve got… oh, shit, I’ve got things to do for the festival!” Lami panicked and went to exit the tent, only for her to be met with Shachi catching them as he was walking by. He started shouting at the two of them—despite the unknown silence—with Lami backing into the tent again as he approached.
“—and furthermore—!” He paused as he stepped over the threshold of the tent, blinking in confusion. “What the hell just happened? Where’s all the noise?”
“Nagi Nagi no Mi—Calm Calm Fruit—I can literally negate noise okay bye!” Lami skirted around Shachi and ran out of the tent, the noise barrier lifting as she went. Shachi watched her leave, then stared at Law curiously.
“What was that…?”
“Long story.”
“I’ve been around you for long enough—I got time.”
“Longer than we’ve known each other.”
“That’s… a long time.”
“Indeed.” The pair walked together back to where the rest of the crew was waiting nervously, all eyeing their captain in an attempt to figure out what happened. Law downed the remainder of his beer in one go and placed the tankard back on the table. “Drank, sang, danced; I think I’ve touched enough grass to earn the right to go back to the Tang.”
“I’ll agree with that,” Ikkaku nodded. They all watched as he stormed away, stride a bit too quick for normal. “Shit—looks like someone’s going to be grumpy all night. Let’s give him a bit, then grill him good.”
“That sounds dangerous,” Bepo grimaced.
“It’s what we have available to us, or else no one is going to enjoy this festival,” she shrugged. She popped a bit of pretzel in her mouth and sighed dramatically—traveling with a bunch of men certainly was tiresome sometimes.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
The very moment that Law returned back to the Polar Tang, he went directly into his cabin and locked the door behind him. It did not matter that he literally had the entire ship to himself—only when he was inside the safety of his private quarters did he break down and allow himself to sob in earnest, curled up on his bunk and allowing himself a weakness he rarely indulged in, for what was the captain of a pirate crew except for strong?
Hours passed and Law laid there, his entire body shaking in trepidation. After all these years, all this time, his sister was alive. She was here, in the Grand Line, and alive.
Trafalgar D. Water Lami was alive.
Two of them survived.
After everything that tried to silence them over the years, they were still alive.
Fuck, he couldn’t stop thinking that word.
Alive.
Suddenly, he was restless. Law quickly stood and began pacing in his tiny cabin. Rarely had he felt as though he was going to bounce off the fucking walls, but that’s where he was, and he needed to calm down. He stopped in the middle of the room and looked at his hands, remembering what it was she had said earlier.
…I… thought I forgot what Dad looked like…
A weight dropped in his stomach.
…but he looked just like you.
Slowly, Law turned towards the mirror that was hanging in his sliver of a washroom. His mouth felt very dry all of a sudden as the face staring back at him stripped away the very thing he did his best to not address all these years. He grabbed onto his chair and shakily leaned on it—fuck, oh fuck, why did this hurt? Why was this so hard? His chest felt tight as he reached for a box sitting on a shelf, gingerly placing it on the desk before opening it. He pulled out a pair of charred eyeglass frames and shakily put them on, the thin metal burnished and lens-less, confirming everything bearing down on him. His eyesight blurred as tears distorted it, knowing that she assured him of the cruel joke that he had been terrified of all these years.
He really did look like their dad.
“Captain…?” It was Hakugan, pounding at the door, startling Law as he took the frames off in a panic. “Captain, you’ve got a visitor!”
“Don’t fuck with me,” he growled.
“That’s why Penguin sent me, because I don’t do that shit, apparently.”
Law put the eyeglass frames back in the box and placed it back in the box. He took a deep breath and opened the door, seeing the unchanging expression of his crewmate’s mask. “Who is it?”
“That lady you were singing with; she’s insisting we let her talk with you.”
“Is she in the Tang?”
“No; top deck.”
“Then I’m going to need you, Clione, and Bepo to run crowd control and make sure that no one bothers us.”
“Shachi says she’s got a Devil Fruit…”
“It’s a silencer, nothing more.” He waited until Hakugan stepped aside before heading up towards the roof of the ship. There was Lami, standing by the gangplank, a knapsack over her shoulder and a duffle bag in her hand as the rest of the crew gawked at her. Law calmly walked up to her, hearing the noise of the crew fade away as he entered her space. “That was fast.”
“They recognized you,” she said simply. “My committee members might have pulled a coup and voted to relieve me of my duties so I can go sail with my brother.”
“Do they…?”
“One says we look alike, but I don’t think that at all,” she laughed weakly. “They don’t think we’re eloping at least.”
“Well, that’s good,” he shuddered. He could feel a presence behind him, who he knew to be Bepo not only due to Haki and long-friendship with the bear, but also due to the way his sister’s eyes lit up. “What is it, Bepo?”
“I’m sorry, but, what’s going on…?”
“Oh, yeah, the rest of you are here,” Law frowned. He turned towards the rest of the crew and motioned towards Lami. “She’s staying.”
“Uh… Captain…?” Shachi said warily. “Why is the island’s festival chairwoman staying?”
“Lami’s staying with us for a while,” Law stated, leaving no further room for comment. “Ikkaku, it looks like you’re getting a women’s quarters after all.”
“Yes!” the aforementioned engineer grinned as she pumped her fist. “Keep asking and good things will come!”
“You know that, statistically-speaking, it was only a matter of time before another woman started traveling with us,” Uni stated. “Women are half the world.”
“Yeah, but for some reason there’s only a fraction of us on the seas, let alone the Grand Line,” she fired back. “So, Lami, was it? You and I need to talk about how we’re going to build this room, because it’s going to be a very important haven when these dweebs start doing shit like running around naked on laundry day or when they decide to induce shedding on Bepo or start playing Rivet, Rivet, Better Skip It…”
“You’re just jealous that you never win because you suck,” Penguin smirked.
“I ‘suck’ because, reportedly, ‘fuck you’,” Ikkaku sneered, using liberal amounts of air-quotes. She then grabbed onto Lami’s upper arm and pulled her along, disappearing into the bowels of the Tang. The rest of the crew simply stared at Law.
“I thought we were only really recruiting people from the North Blue,” Uni mentioned. “Y’know, barring Bepo and Jean Bart.”
“She is.”
“She knew a song, Captain—that doesn’t prove anything.”
“It proves more than you know.”
“Was she from Flevance?” Everyone looked over at Jean Bart, who seemed reserved in his accusation, making the large man seem so incredibly timid. No one else said a word, instead turning their attention towards their captain.
Instead of responding verbally, Law simply went down beneath the deck, finding where Ikkaku had dragged Lami off to; they were in the mess hall, the former having pulled out an impressive set of schematics that were boggling the younger’s mind.
“You sure you’re alright like this?” he asked. She glanced up at him, very clearly as though she knew the blueprints were over her head.
“I think so…” She ran her fingers over a cutaway illustration and her brow furrowed. “I can do complicated surgeries and can identify any humanoid organ by sight alone, but this…”
“She’s like a surgeon, but for a ship, in a way,” Law shrugged. “What we do with people, she does with metal.”
“Then you’re also a doctor?” Ikkaku noted. “Nice. You and the captain will make a good team then.” She waggled her eyes at Law, who scowled at her grouchily.
“Lami is my sister,” he said, deciding to cut that off at the bud. Ikkaku froze in place, letting the information wash over her before slowly nodding.
“Does anyone else know this?”
“No.”
“Is anyone else allowed to know this?”
“The crew is, yeah, but remember: they are a bunch of dumbasses.”
“True enough.” She then glanced over at Lami, who seemed to be flushing pink in embarrassment. “Anything else I need to know about?”
“I ate a Devil Fruit that makes everything quiet and I love reading Sora, Warrior of the Sea and festivals are literally my favorite thing ever and have been since I was little.”
“That actually explains a lot,” Ikkaku chuckled. She gave Law a shit-eating grin, one that sent a chill down his spine. “Don’t worry, Captain; we’ll take care of your little sister, not a problem.”
“LITTLE SISTER?!”
The three turned towards the doorway to find the rest of the crew standing by the mess hall’s entrance, jaws dropped in astonishment. Penguin and Shachi were so moved, even, that they both started crying.
“You came through for us and got the crew a cute little sister after all!” Shachi sobbed.
“Yeah, Captain! We’ll treat her just as we would our own little sister!” Penguin added tearfully.
“Neither of you have a sister, which begs many a question,” Law deadpanned.
“Not to mention how in the hell they’ve been treating me all these years,” Ikkaku griped. Lami went and surprised them both, along with the entire rest of the crew, by going between them and bowing at the waist.
“Thank you for taking such good care of my brother all these years!” she said. When she straightened, her eyes were glassy and red-rimmed. “It’s been my dream to find someone from Flevance again, and for it to be my brother… you have no idea what it means to me!”
“Big brothers are the best, aren’t they?” Bepo asked cheerfully. Lami mirrored his smile despite the tears leaking down her face.
“They really are! Especially when you haven’t seen them in a long time!”
Bepo brought Lami into a tight hug and the rest of the Hearts cheered—a new younger sister! The captain’s younger sister at that! Things really were looking up.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Pudding had long ago accepted the fact that she was a hostage, waiting to be rescued. In fact, she was perfectly fine with the idea that she was perfectly helpless until at least one of her siblings arrived. Was it going to be an enjoyable reunion? Probably not. What she also knew, however, was that the two men that made up her guard were complete and utter thugs.
“Mommy’s dead—she ain’t gonna help ya,” the guard on the left grinned. She felt the undying urge to take a shower just from him looking at her.
“I have more powerful people behind me than just my mother, if you’re that set on her dying,” she huffed. “Katakuri is a very protective older brother, I’ll have you know.”
“If he can bother hunting down one little lamb while the rest of the flock is panicking in the power vacuum?” Right chuckled. “I doubt. Mommy and Uncle Kaido kinda played into our commodore’s hands.”
“Hmm… I doubt.”
“Oh, you’re gonna doubt a lot of shit once the commodore’s done with you, girlie,” Left chortled.
Ugh. So fucking cringe.
Just then, Pudding noticed that as the two guards moved to better face—and therefore better taunt—her, two women came into view. One with curly hair and the other with hair pulled back in a neat bun, they both were motioning for her to keep quiet. Neither of them seemed to give off the same vibe as the rest of the crew, so Pudding decided to play along. Well, how bad could it get?
“Uh-huh, sure, as though he’d even know what to do with me.”
Without making a sound, both women moved behind the guards, the one with the curly hair hitting them in the back of the head with an oversized wrench to knock them out. The other woman grabbed the keys and unlocked the cell, the keys refusing to make even a single clinking noise. She approached Pudding and touched her pointer and middle finger to the teen’s lips before beginning to work on the restraints.
“Charlotte Pudding, I presume?”
“…and to whom do I owe this rescue?” she asked. “You don’t look like you’re from the Family.”
“Let’s just say we don’t think that a cute kid like you should be with these gross molesters-in-waiting,” the curly-haired woman smirked. She gave Pudding a wink, then a pistol. “I’m Ikkaku, this is Lami. Our captain’s providing us a distraction as we speak.”
“…and how do I know that I’m not walking right from one den of crazies into another?” Pudding asked. The two older women glanced at each other and shrugged.
“I swear on my belching metal baby, the Polar Tang, that we’re actually pretty decent,” Ikkaku claimed.
“…and I swear on my Hippocratic Oath that I would not do anything to provoke harm, nor allow senseless acts to be committed towards anyone under my care, which you now are,” Lami stated.
“So, really, we’re weird, but in an ‘everyone is weird’ sense,” Ikkaku shrugged, “or a ‘our gruff captain is a secret comic book nerd’ sort of sense.”
“I have over eighty siblings—I think I can handle that,” Pudding deadpanned. She tied up her skirt and turned all three eyes towards her rescuers. “Want to cause some trouble on the way out?”
“You sure that’s fine to do with the crew of your mother’s killer?” Ikkaku wondered, eyebrow raised. Pudding simply shrugged.
“It’s either cause some trouble with you two, or…” she grimaced at the sight of her prior jailers, “I get into trouble with these guys. My options aren’t exactly great right now.”
“Then maybe it’s a good thing that we put extra bunks in the women’s quarters after all,” Lami nodded. She then quickly looked over Pudding with a glance—they didn’t hurt you, did they?”
“No…” The young Charlotte looked at her rescuers cautiously. “You seem pretty calm.”
“Regarding what?” Ikkaku asked. An explosion went off on the other side of the wall, shaking the room they were in. “That’s just the rest of the losers we sail with—nothing more.”
“No, I mean…” She hesitated, not really knowing how to broach the topic she kept so long a secret. “You aren’t freaked out over my eyes.”
“I’m literally one of two known survivors of a mass poisoning event that everyone else thought was a plague, so you’re in luck: we know what it’s like to be stared at by assholes,” Lami shrugged. “Besides, that eye of yours reads Poneglyphs, correct?”
“Supposedly…”
“Then you’re going to love what we’ve got waiting for you.” Lami gestured towards the door with her head as another rumble shook them, though not quite as violently. “How ‘bout it? Prove to your family you can do something without them?”
“…and what makes you think I have that sort of family…?”
“You said it yourself, kid: you’ve got over eighty siblings.” Ikkaku nervously eyed what she hoped was not the ballast tank and laughed awkwardly. “C’mon ladies, we should really get out of here before our cover’s blown!”
Another rumble rocked the ship and the three got going, headed back towards the miniature docking sub and away from the mess. They got out and Ikkaku sent a pulse through the water, letting Shachi and Penguin know it was alright to begin attacking the ship in earnest.
Mission accomplished.
Had a thought about Trafalgar law, you come across a little boy and his little sister who are being chased by other pirates for whatever reason and you decided to protect them (basically adopt them at first sight) you tell them to run to the docks to find your captain/love interest for help. While holding off the pirate crew you take damage....I could picture law seeing him and lammi in the little ones and becoming protective just as you are with them
I turned this into a full one-shot, scenario thing cause I just couldn't NOT after I read this! I hope you like it!! 💚
Tumblr media
“Law, I can explain.”
“Please. Enlighten me, [Y/N]-ya.”
With his arms crossed, Law listens very closely as you start to explain the situation you’re in now, why you were injured and why the hell there are two children on the Polar Tang now, a set of siblings that you swear you hadn’t fully intended to bring with you. A boy no younger than five and a girl no more than two, they’d ran into you on the last island you docked at, the place having been taken over and ravaged by another pirate crew, begging you for help. The orphanage they lived at had been burned down, their caretakers were missing, and no one had been willing to help them until you stopped. Their story felt like a knife twisting your heart, causing you to direct them to the docks and that as soon as they found the big yellow submarine, to look for the guy with a spotted hat and tattoos, tell him you sent them there if you didn’t get back first.
You hadn’t fully intended to bring them on board, but your crew ended up being in a rush when you came back with a gash on your temple and a stab wound on your arm, you ushered them on board and not even Law noticed them at first. It wasn’t until he went to treat your wounds and the two were holding onto you for dear life that he questioned you on where on earth these two came from, leading to the current situation.
“That’s, that’s really it, I swear,” you quickly bend down and lift up the girl as she starts to whine a bit, Law watching you, “I didn’t think we’d end up taking them with us.”
“Their caretakers are probably looking for them.”
“They said no one was around that they recognized. Law, please, I’ll—”
“This ship isn’t a place for children, let alone toddlers.”
You know he’s right, based on the small nod you give as you look at the girl, laying her head on your shoulder, still whining a bit with her thumb in her mouth. You don’t even have items on the Polar Tang to help you take care of two small children, but even still, you want to help them. You’ve heard your captain/boyfriend tell you before that pirates don’t help people, but the Straw Hats do that everywhere they go, why can’t you do the same for these two orphans? Even if it’s until the next island, you could do something positive for them.
Knowing you as well as he does, Law is aware he’s not going to win this battle. You’re already getting attached, even if he tells you to leave them at the next port, you’re going to be heartbroken doing so. As soon as Bepo sees them it’s going to be even more difficult, the mink loves children and will fight to keep them on board too, even if it might be seen as insubordination by some. He can’t even deny that there’s a part of him that wants to help them, clenching his jaw as he watches you comfort the girl, asking if she’s tired or hungry before her older brother says she’s hungry, knowing her so well.
It reminds him of how well he knew Lami, every little tick and tell that showed what she needed or wanted when she was little. The age gap between these siblings is about the same as his and Lami’s was.
If she were there she’d be on your side to keep these kids around.
“Law,” the disappointed look on your face makes his heart drop, and Law sighs knowing he’s lost this one, “I’ll look for an orphanage at the next island, for now—”
“As soon as Bepo sees them it’s going to be impossible to let them go…”
“Then…!” You brighten up so quickly that Law has to look away from you as he nods. Your smile is too bright for him sometimes, despite how long you’ve been together.
“They’re your responsibility.”
Nodding, you take the boy’s hand and start to lead him to the kitchen, only stopping long enough to kiss Law.
“Thank you, Law. I love you!”
“Yeah,” Law sighs and watches you leave, asking the newest Heart Pirate crewmates what they want for lunch, “love you too.”
+!+
Their names are Noa and Luna, you find out while you make them something to eat with Penguin’s help. He holds Luna as she fusses for something to eat, promising her it’s on the way, as Noa tells you a little more about what’s happened to the two in recent months.
Their parents died in a house fire that happened while the siblings were with their grandfather for the day, who ended up taking them in after the accident. He unfortunately passed a few weeks ago from pneumonia, leaving the two with nowhere else to go but the orphanage, until it was ransacked and almost burned down by the pirates that invaded their home the other day. Noa did all he could to keep Luna safe and fed the last couple of days, and when he saw you, he just felt like he hadto try, he hoped you would help them and luckily you did.
The story almost gets Penguin to even cry, but Luna’s little cries keep him from doing so. You take her from him once it’s all ready, a very basic chicken fried rice you made with some leftovers for Noa and some mashed potatoes with bites of the same chicken for Luna, sitting down with the toddler in your lap to help her eat. Penguin joins you and just watches, it’s such a domestic scene, very strange for a pirate crew.
“Can’t believe captain is letting them stay…”
“I guess something convinced him it would be okay.” You shrug as Luna attempts to take the spoon from you, but settles for holding onto your hand while you keep feeding her. Noa digs in so quickly and is nearly done, ready for seconds that you’d think he hasn’t eaten in weeks, not days.
“Yeah, that something is you,” Penguin grins while you roll your eyes, “but maybe also cause he was reminded of his sister.”
You know Law’s life story very well at this point, you can easily tell when it’s all gotten to him again based on how he stays in his office those nights, only letting you come in when you realize what’s happening again. Letting you almost coddle and pamper him with love and sweet words of how proud they all are of him, it’s enough those nights to bring him back to your shared bed, though he keeps his face buried in your chest and if there are any tears you don’t let on that you notice them.
It's been a long time but it still affects him all the same, you’ll gladly stay and help Law through all of it. You love him too much to let him deal with it alone.
“Ah, who knows,” he shrugs this time before getting up to leave after serving Noa more fried rice and ruffling his hair, “Maybe captain is thinking of you two having a kid now!”
That comment just makes your face heat up as you glare at him and he laughs.
“Shut up, Penguin.”
+!+
Everyone takes to the young siblings quickly, especially Bepo when he does meet them. Luna becomes attached instantly and falls asleep without much problem for a nap, Noa trying to climb on Bepo to play until he lays down with the toddler asleep on him, the five-year-old joining for a warm, comfortable nap that afternoon. It becomes quite common to find the three napping together over the next few weeks.
Lists are made of what you need to pick up next time to ensure these kids have a chance and can live comfortably on the submarine, Ikkaku and Hakugan taking the reins on that when you dock again. Uni and Clione watch the two whenever you’re busy elsewhere, and Noa treats Jean Bart like a jungle gym too, though he doesn’t complain simply because it’s cute. The whole crew enjoys helping care for the siblings, Noa and Luna being seen as a full-fledged members right away, in spite of how young they are. Noa constantly asks to help people with things and it normally ends up with him helping fold laundry as Luna toddles around, giving bright smiles and giggles to everyone.
It’s takes more time for Law to warm up to the two, even as they’ve been sharing your room and bed, since there’s no other place for them on the ship. He hasn’t argued with you about it, even when he’s woken up with Luna snug against his side or Noa on top of him, it’s weirdly sweet and he doesn’t seem to mind it.
You can tell he’s becoming more accepting of having these two kids around, as he starts to carry Luna when she lifts her arms up to him, he easily scoops her up in his arms and continues what he was doing even when she lays her head on his shoulder and yawns. Noa has come to start asking Law all kinds of questions about medicine and medical procedures, your boyfriend explaining it the best he can so a child can understand it.
A part of you wonders if he’ll be like this with your own children one day, if you have any.
For now, you soak up the moments like this one, where you catch the three fast asleep in your bed, Noa curled up beside Law while Luna is asleep on his chest, a copy of Sora Warrior of the Sea in your boyfriend’s hand, obviously he’d been reading to them before they’d all fallen asleep. It makes you smile to yourself as you cover them with a blanket, placing soft kisses on foreheads and cheeks where you find them, enough so that it wakes Law and he just looks at you.
“They both love you, Law.”
He hums a bit, gently grabbing your wrist to pull you into bed with them, you bring Noa close to you and let him snuggle against you in his sleep.
“…did I tell you she called me dada the other day?”
“No, you didn’t!” You have to keep your surprise down to not wake the two, “When did that happen?”
“Luna wanted my attention but I was busy with something. I guess she got frustrated and it just came out…I didn’t mind it.”
“That’s good, Law,” once you kiss his cheek again, you lay your head on his shoulder and close your eyes while Law brings you closer to him, “I’m glad you let them stay.”
“Yeah…so am I.”
Maybe one day Law will admit to you he saw himself and Lami in Noa and Luna, but for now, he’ll just accept that most of his days will be cut short with naps and bedtime stories and his work will he interrupted by the little girl that needs held. He really doesn’t mind it, it’s a nice change of pace.
Maybe the Straw Hats have it right that you can be a pirate and help people after all.
Trafalgar Law on touching and being touched
It won't be a perverted post despite the title lol. But I won't stop your imagination, be free!
There's this funny theme going on with Law and Luffy in particular that picked my interest.
Tumblr media
Luffy touched him first.
Tumblr media
And he later returned the gesture, much more awkwardly.
Tumblr media
Again, Luffy grabbed him angrily first.
Tumblr media
Law made sure to return the gesture. (btw he also does it with Zoro, who was the first one to wrap an arm around him at post-Dressrosa feast. In Wano Law has no problem grabbing Zoro and shouts at him angrily. Again, it was Zoro who initiated the touch first).
Tumblr media
Law grabbing Luffy to teleport them makes Luffy react in a curious way, you wanna know why?
Tumblr media
Because it totally feels like this moment. Both Law and Ace, right after getting uncuffed, grabbed Luffy in same way to get him to a safer place. Ace-Law parallel in relation to Luffy kills me. The whole Dressrosa arc's plotline between Luffy and Law is just Marineford Went Well This Time. Ngl I kinda hated Oda at first for that. Now i dig it.
Tumblr media
He didn't seem to like that. Luffy says "Let's all get along well!", but Law thinks alliances don't have to "get along".
Tumblr media
Mistranslation here. What Law says here, being so surprised, is "nakayoshi ka?!" which means "you two get along?!" or "you two are buddy-buddies?!". It's a callback to Luffy declaring that Law and Strawhats crew should get along (he uses same word then, nakayoku-get along), Law learns here that Luffy's crew indeed "gets along well". You can interpret it whatever way you wish, but I will use it this time to put this scene into context:
Tumblr media
The same gesture Luffy did to him before, but Law didn't return it to Luffy - that's because they're not crewmates. But he takes the lesson to heart and "gets along" with his own crew. Omg I can't believe i'm writing it, I make Law sound like this completely awkward adult who doesn't know how to be friends with people.
But bear with me, the shit is only starting. If you don't want to have feels I reccommend you just laugh at it and stop reading here. I digged up a feels landmine by accident. In-depth study starts below!
Tumblr media
It's also a possible callback to the "reassurance" Law got from Cora-san. "I'm counting on you to escape" and Law did. He counts for his crew to steer the submarine well in similar manner.
Tumblr media
Law's family didn't seem very touchy-feely, so please keep that in mind as well. He's got limited experience with touches and the few touches he did get familiar with were either taken away from him or brutalized.
Tumblr media
Law getting patted on the head lovingly by his parent.
Tumblr media
Next time this loving gesture happens, he gets thrown from like two-floor building into a pile of garbage.
Tumblr media
And then he gets lied to that everything will be fine. We all know it wasn't.
Tumblr media
Do you still wonder why he hates being touched on the head?
Tumblr media
The sister touches his face gently while showing child Law support and compassion, reminding him not to despair, someone kind will help him.
Tumblr media
Corazon doing the same gentle touch to the face while crying for him, thinking of all the pain Law had to experience. Indeed, the world sent Law someone kind. And Law lost him and blames himself for that.
Tumblr media
Law holding Lammy's hand while lying to her that it will be alright. He never does that gesture again to anyone.
Tumblr media
The sister holding Law's hand.
Tumblr media
"Don't come closer! Don't touch us! We will get infected!" even doing the barrier gesture (I guess that's why Law doesn't get along with Bartolomeo). I used only few examples, there is much more, I just couldn't bear posting them all. Anyway, Law's got the message, his touch is unwanted. The body and mind remembers this.
Tumblr media
Similar shit said at the auction in Sabaody about Fishmen, we don't see Law's reaction to that, but we can guess already that it was for sure triggering. Those people talking are sitting not that far away from him.
Tumblr media
Ever wondered why Law throws people when teleporting? Besides the fact he avoids making contact with anyone unless they initiate it first, because that trauma is still strong in him ("Stay away! Don't come closer!"), there is one other possible reason:
Tumblr media
Wonder no more! He does it to people because that's how people treated him as well, even people who apparently loved him.
Now that I have ruined the "Law is just an awkward unsocial nerd" joke for you, let me offer something to warm your heart a bit in exchange:
Tumblr media
Corazon made sure to touch Law a lot and hold him in his arms, despite being often clumsy about it. I think he understood Law's trauma about being touched and his fear to touch or approach anyone, and tried to help him overcome it.
Tumblr media
Being hugged and trying to return the gesture. Corazon's efforts did bring some results! But it only works for very few people, Law is still wary of people he doesn't know well. He expects to be unwanted and acts uneccessarily cold, distant and unapproachable because of that. But if you scroll back to the beginning of this post, you can see that he is trying his best to overcome it as well, one step at a time. Some things just can't be rushed.
Tumblr media
And hey, at least he seems to be actually relaxed and almost like he *enjoys* being carried around. You think it makes him look uncool? Definitely. But suddenly it feels like Something Important, kinda intimate in a way and not just a silly comedy moment. It's a sign Law relies on people when he lets them carry him and that's why he doesn't protest.
Tumblr media
Sanji is like "Why are you relaxing like that?! Get off!!" Finally, it makes sense why Law makes such a sour face here. Sanji should be grateful for the rare privileage after all! Anyway, this is anime-only extension, in manga Sanji actually doesn't tell Traffy to get off and Law chooses to scramble by himself, which doesn't taint the fragile trust those two just shared.
For those who made it to the end of this post, have I ruined Law's comedy moments for you forever? Because I sure just did that for myself.
I could also add one more cute thing from One Piece World Seeker Law's dlc, but I will let those interested to discover it by themselves!
I'm also amazed by the consistency of this theme. Both manga and anime never forget that touch is seemingly a big deal for Law.
The north african experience of getting chased by your angry sibling who is holding a bottle of gazouz/soda (there's 99% chances that you deserved it).
A poorly drawn doodle because I couldn't get the idea of algerian Law and Lammy out of my head. Probably no one will see my vision but c'est la vie, I guess.
Poll Vote Soulmate AU
Hi lovely readers, We wish you all a great weekend! We hope this fic rec will make it even better for you <3
chains meant to be broken by chenziee (T)
To have a soulmate is a blessing, Law’s mother used to say. She always did so with a soft, knowing expression on her face while stroking Law’s arm, tracing his soulmark with gentle fingers. Law used to believe her… but that romantic naivety soon burned away.
your emotions bleeding colours into my skin by betsib (T)
Law finds out the patient he just performed a life-saving surgery on is his soulmate, and he isn't happy about it. He never wanted a soulmate in the first place. Written for 10 days of LawLu 2023, Day 1 prompt: Soulmates
Hold Fast to Dreams by Purplehairedwonder (T)
Law was nine the first time he had a dream that wasn’t his own. He was in a forest on an island he’d never seen before—the plants and trees were the wrong color for one thing—and he was running from an old man he called Gramps, only the man had looked nothing like either of Law’s grandfathers.
Shadow Dicks by HowLoveGoes (T)
In a modern world, whatever you draw on your skin appears on your soulmate's skin. This includes the dicks your friends draw on you while you are asleep, while your soulmate is working at the hospital on his day shift. Best friends, man.
Smile, the Worst is Yet to Come by IceAngels (T)
Trafalgar D Water Law never asked for a soulmate. And he certainly never asked for that soulmate. Monkey D Luffy would probably end up giving him an heart attack. Law thought. Every time the Straw Hat wearing fellow pirate bounced into his life his blood pressure shot through the roof and something terrible always happened. He thought about Dressrossa, well, not always terrible... but always always certainly insane.
First Thought by Plume8now (G)
Prompt inspired by: "Soulmate [AU] where your tattoo shows the first thing your soulmate thought when they saw you" OR How long did it take for them to figure this out? [LAWLU]
An Unexpected Camaraderie by carrotcouple (T)
On the way to Wano, Law gets a rather violent nosebleed while talking to Zoro.
A Little Bit of Red by Monimo (T)
Soulmates were never something Law put much stake in, even as his parents lauded over them and Lammy fantasized about hers. He had even less faith in them after Flevance was destroyed and he was left wondering where his were. For Luffy the topic of soulmates was always on his mind, he’d have a crew full of his soulmates and wouldn’t take no for an answer. They were all his special people afterall.
A Freaking Miracle by thorsten_is_in_the_hood (T)
In a world where the mark on your body are the first words your soulmate says to you, most have normal and common sentences on them, while one has something stupidly ridiculous and another something truly disturbing.
Cooking and music by Arkantecker (T)
A world where people are born talented to do/make whatever it is that their soul mate is passionate about. In this case, Trafalgar is good at cooking, and Luffy is good at playing music.
A Straw Hat? by Locohelli (G)
When Luffy was still a child, Shanks gave him his straw hat, so Luffy wouldn't miss out on meeting his soulmate when they would be crossing each other's paths. Years later and Luffy still doesn't go anywhere without his straw hat.
Counting the Seconds by TheeGirlWonder (T)
Everyone has a timer of how much time they have spent with their soulmate. For twenty-four years Law’s had stayed at 00:00, until he arrived at Sabaody.
winter holiday event masterpost
Tumblr media
donquixote doflamingo
Tumblr media
Doflamingo is, of course, an extravagant gift-giver. Money is no object; in fact, he typically prefers to give expensive presents, as a demonstration of his own power and, by extension, yours.
But don’t let yourself think this means he would be inattentive. Doflamingo takes pride in understanding people–their hopes and dreams, their fears, their desires–especially if they’re important to him or his plans. It makes him feel in control.
As long as you’re on his good side, his gifts would not only be luxurious, but perfectly tailored to your wants and needs. He’s not one for practical gift-giving, either (why bother, when he could buy such things for you any time of year?)–no, the holidays are for fulfilling wishes you didn’t even know you had, and in the process, reminding you of just how much you need him.
Handmade gifts are out of the question, though. He is, after all, a busy man. Commissioning an artisan and telling you he made it himself is much more likely, if he thought it would impress you more than something ready-made.
Tumblr media
donquixote rosinante
Tumblr media
Unlike his brother, Rosinante adores making handmade gifts for his loved ones. He can be quite insecure, especially as a partner, so making heartfelt presents gives him an outlet to show his feelings without feeling so much pressure on the spot.
While Rosinante is known for his clumsiness, he can be rather delicate when he’s sitting down and really focused–a product of all the time he’s spent trying to appear smaller and less intimidating than he really is. It’s a skill that transfers well to handicrafts like scrapbooking, knitting, and jewelry-making.
On the flipside of this, he also tends to put a lot of pressure on himself to find or create the perfect gift. You may notice him acting more distant or cross than usual around the holidays for this reason, but as soon as you unwrap the package and he sees your smiling face, he’ll know that it was worth it.
He’s terrible at surprises. It’s not uncommon that you’ll find bits and pieces from his projects lying around when he’s working on something, or that he’ll accidentally drop a hint in conversation.
One of the quickest ways to Rosinante’s heart is simply offering to work on your gifts together. He’ll enjoy the quality time with you, even if it’s spent quietly working on your own projects, and it’s a lot of weight off of his shoulders not having to worry about keeping your present hidden from you.
Law isn’t one for sentimental gifts. It isn’t that he doesn’t care for you–he’s just uncomfortable showing his affection in such unguarded ways.
His gifts tend to be more practical in nature, but not thoughtless: books or equipment related to your skills, a new winter coat and some warm socks if he’s noticed that you seem cold, a portable Den-Den Mushi if you have to spend long periods away from each other. If he’s really at a loss for what to get you, though, he may just hand you an envelope of Beri so you can choose for yourself.
At the end of the day, though, Law isn’t a great fan of the holidays in general. They remind him of the Donquixotes’ elaborate Christmas parties and of all the years he lost with Lammy and his parents. If you’re not an especially understanding and forgiving person, it could make him hard to get along with at this time of year.
Still, if you can manage to drag him away from his work for a little while, he may grumble a bit–just not so much that you don’t realize how thankful he is. The darkest time of year is easiest to get through when you have someone warm to snuggle up with and keep your mind off of the past; maybe the two of you will even be able to create some new memories together.
My piece for @lovinglawzine! It's completely free and available to download right now! There's two zines, >SFW< and >NSFW< and both are full of Law love 🤍🐯 (did I mention it's free?)
[ READ ON AO3 | KO-FI | COMM INFO ]
—————
The first time Law noticed the red cord tangled around his little finger, he dismissed it. He was still deathly sick from amber lead, the brutal loss of Cora-san painfully fresh on his mind, and some strange thread couldn’t be anything but a hallucination. After all, he couldn’t even touch it and it didn’t lead anywhere his hazy eyesight could see. What else would it be except something his exhausted mind had made up?
The second time he noticed it, Law accounted it to still not being used to his devil fruit. It was barely the third time he had managed to successfully conjure up a Room—as he had decided to call it—and it was still wonky, still clumsy, still unstable. He couldn’t see any strings on his hand or anywhere else when he wasn’t using his powers so there was no way it was really there.
The third time he noticed it, he inadvertently remembered a story his mom used to tell him and Lammy. A story about a Red String that connected two fated lovers, two people who were of one soul, never to be complete without the other. Soulmates, so to speak. He disregarded the thought immediately for being too unscientific and ridiculous.
The sixth time he noticed it, he decided he had to be losing his mind because now he could see a red string on everyone who entered his Room.
The twentieth time…
The twentieth time he barely even noticed the strings tangling in the snow underneath his feet anymore.
—————
After eleven years with the power of the Op-Op Fruit, Trafalgar Law could confidently say he understood how it worked and what it allowed him to do. He could remove people’s organs without hurting them, he could perform near-impossible surgeries without so much as thinking about it, and he could do whatever he wanted within his Room.
And, despite his best efforts, Law couldn’t ignore that anymore either.
It took a lot of back and forth between Bepo and Penguin’s romantic mindset, and his and Shachi’s more realistic—or jaded, as Ikkaku liked to say—worldview. It took him years but in the end, Law had no choice but begrudgingly admit that his power also allowed him to see the so-called ‘Red String of Fate’, whatever that was.
Strings that weren’t so much red sometimes as they were on a scale between black and gold. Black—dark, charred, and dead—presumably for deceased partners. Red for disconnected strings. Gold for a string that found its other end—the second (or third or last) person sharing this bond. To this day, Law wasn’t sure how much weight he should be giving to it though. He had seen people with strings blood red, yet with wedding rings on their fingers, crying for their beloved wives and husbands while Law cut them in half with morbid fascination, uncaring.
On the other hand, he had encountered people with beautiful gold around their left little fingers… who seemed nothing but happy to meet their demise by Law’s unforgiving hands.
All in all…
Law didn’t care.
Least of all, about the red string that was still securely tied to his own hand.
Honestly, if he could, he would have burned it long ago. And boy, did he try. After all, what use did he have for a ‘fated partner’? What did that even mean? He didn’t know and he didn’t care. The only thing that mattered to him was Cora-san… and Doflamingo.
But, eleven years in, he had long since resigned himself to the thing being there to stay.
Not that it made any difference to him or anyone else.
At least, that was how it was for a long time. How it was supposed to be.
“You guys stay back. I’ll handle this,” Straw Hat Luffy announced as he, Eustass Kid, and Law took their stand in front of the Sabaody human auction house.
“No, you two stay back!” Eustass snapped back—raising to the bait like a child.
Law, on the other hand, stayed perfectly calm. “You tell me what to do one more time and I’m killing you first, Eustass-ya.”
“Just me, Trafalgar?” Eustass asked, shooting Law a look.
Law didn’t bother dignifying that with a response.
Not that there was that much time for chit-chat once the marines surrounding them from all sides broke out of their pathetic stupor and cannons started going off, shooting straight at them.
“Room,” Law said lazily, taking Kikoku out of its long scabbard. Nonchalantly cutting off the head of the nearest marine, Law quickly switched it with the cannonball hurtling at him, then caught the screaming head easily.
As he tossed it in his hand a few times, a smirk playing at his lips, Law wondered… how should he play with these rats? They didn’t have much time before an admiral would be on their asses so he couldn’t get too creative…
“Wow, your power’s weird.”
Law huffed, tilting his head to the side to glance at Straw Hat; there was a look in his eyes that was slightly curious… but mostly completely honest, almost innocent, but with a strange weight behind it that made Law freeze completely just for a second. It was the same weight, same intensity as when he had punched that Celestial Dragon, but at the same time, it felt completely different.
But, before he could decipher it or really think about it, the moment was over.
“Look who’s talking, Straw Hat-ya.” Law huffed in amusement, turning his attention back to the scrambling marines.
He called forth another Room just as Straw Hat dashed past him. Law wanted to roll his eyes at his impatience but then something else caught his eyes—a smudge of red trailing after him, flowing happily in the air as if to mark the path he took.
Inadvertently, Law’s eyes followed the string. He wasn’t sure why; maybe because it basically hit him in the face when he flew past, or maybe because Law hardly ever saw a string that wasn’t dragging on the ground, hardly saw someone with the other end of the sting being close by.
Or maybe, that too was fate.
As he followed the path of the string, Law’s eyes widened once his gaze reached his own hand. His own left little finger, where the other end of the string was tied snuggly… while a gold glitter started to spread around it.
No.
No, that couldn’t be right.
There was no way Law was tied to Straw Hat Luffy.
“You chickening out, Trafalgar?” Eustass called mockingly as he stole the swords out of the hands of the three marines that had attacked Law, the three marines that Law had completely failed to notice in his shock.
At least it’s not this fucking guy, Law thought to himself.
“Shut the fuck up, Eustass-ya,” he snapped back, then sighed deeply.
What was he doing? It didn’t fucking matter if Straw Hat was his ‘soulmate’ or whatever other unscientific, superstitious, childish word he wanted to call this stupid thing.
After all, what did he care? He never cared. Not once.
He had neither the time nor the capacity to waste on pointless ideals like love. He knew what love was. He had received love. And then he lost it, every single time.
His country, his city, his parents, his sister, Cora-san…
He’d lost all of it and now, nothing mattered—nothing but fulfilling Cora-san’s ambition.
Least of all, some reckless idiot in a straw hat with a smile that could blind a person, and passion that could burn down the entire world.
—————
When Law heard about the execution of Portgas D. Ace, he thought nothing of it. He was curious to know how it was going to end: who would win, how the world was going to change, where the delicate balance of power would tilt. He was looking forward to seeing it… but he had no personal interest in it—not in the war, the government, the Whitebeard Pirates, in Fire Fist, or anyone else involved in the fighting.
When Bepo asked him why they were going to Marineford, Law didn’t have an answer for him.
—————
Law was used to operating on people. He was a surgeon, after all. It was what he did.
It was supposed to be routine for him by now.
So why were his hands shaking when he stood above Straw Hat Luffy lying on the operating table, unconscious and bleeding heavily, his life escaping him with every weak breath he took?
Law knew why, but he refused to acknowledge it.
He refused to acknowledge the string hanging between them, the very same string that had changed colour from red to gold just days ago—now slowly turning black. He refused to think about it when he first saw the state Straw Hat was in, he forced himself to ignore it when he first created a Room around them inside the Tang, and he actively turned his eyes away whenever he checked on him while he recovered.
And now, as he sat on the shore of Amazon Lily, clutching the old, tattered straw hat in his hands, he fought with himself trying to not pay attention to the way his left little finger tingled, almost as if the invisible string was strangling its blood flow. Which was ridiculous; the string wasn’t really there, it wasn’t real. Law knew it was only in his head but even so, with every distant scream and every creak and crash of a tree falling, he felt another tug on his hand.
How long had this been going on?
It felt like hours since Straw Hat had woken up—since he started this self-destructive rampage.
At the back of his mind, Law wondered whether this was it. After all the work he had done, after spending two weeks saving his life… Straw Hat was going to kill himself. The thought bothered him more than it should have; his heart was beating at a nervous rhythm, his hands sweating and shaking just the smallest bit, his stomach heavy as if he had swallowed the rocks Straw Hat had shattered with his bare hands earlier.
He hated it. He hated feeling like this just because of a patient.
Clicking his tongue in annoyance, Law forced himself to focus on his surroundings. He let his eyes wander around the bay, taking in Ikkaku and Hakugan checking the outside of the Tang to make sure Straw Hat hadn’t damaged her anywhere, Bepo scribbling out a clumsy map to the side, Jean Bart chatting with Uni and Clione, telling them about his days as a captain of his own crew. They all seemed to be having fun…
It left Law feeling that much more stupid for being so nervous—so scared.
How pathetic.
“Whoa!!”
Law startled at Shachi’s sudden call; inadvertently, he looked his and Penguin’s way—the both of them were looking at the sea just off the shore, pointing and shouting about sea kings fighting. As if that was so strange in the Calm Belt.
Still, Law watched with them as the creature struggled, sending violent waves across the water surface in its pointless fight for dear life. It didn’t stand a chance and for a moment, Law wondered just what kind of monster was out there, and if maybe it was going to turn its eyes on the Heart Pirates next. Not that he was worried—rather, a fight might distract him from his thoughts, and from the pirate who was fighting for his life and sanity behind him; so close, yet so far out of Law’s reach.
It didn’t take long for the fight to end and oppressing silence to settle over them. It was like no one even dared breathe as they waited for something to happen. Something, anything…
Except for what did actually happen.
“What a nuisance…”
Both Law and his crew could only watch in stunned silence as a regular human emerged from the water, climbing up the rocks that made up the Amazon Lily’s shore line as if he had just gone to take a quick dip on a vacation instead of fighting a Neptunian in the middle of the goddamned Calm Belt.
Maybe it wasn’t too much of a stretch to call him a monster anyway.
“D-Dark King Reyleigh?!” Penguin cried, the first one to break out of his stupor.
“Oh, it’s you guys. We met at the Auction House, right?” Dark King noted as he casually wringed water out of his clothes.
“Why—how—?” Clione stuttered.
The Dark King huffed. “My ship sank in a storm so I had to swim the rest of the way. It was more taxing than it should have been, I’m really getting old.”
“Storm?” Penguin repeated. “This is the Calm Belt, just how far did you swim?!”
“Anyway,” Rayleigh said, completely ignoring the question in favour of turning to look directly at Law with an unreadable smile on his face. “I’m assuming Luffy is on this island somewhere, isn’t he?”
The question was so simple… but it was as if lightning ran through Law’s body. His breath hitched in his throat, his heart beating a pace faster, his grip on the straw hat tightening. How did he know? Did the navy know too? Were they safe here? What did he want with Straw Hat?
Law wasn’t stupid. He knew that if the Dark King wanted to kill Luffy—or any of them—there was nothing any one of them could do to stop him. No one on this island was a match for this man.
A beat of silence passed while the two of them eyed each other, before Law took a deep breath and spoke up, voice carefully measured. “And if he is?”
At that, Rayleigh laughed. It wasn’t mocking—a genuine, light laughter, one that finally helped Law relax, knowing that there was no immediate danger from him.
“You’re quite protective of him, I’m glad!” Rayleigh noted after a moment. “I was wondering what the feared Surgeon of Death wanted with Luffy but I see I didn’t have to worry.”
The smile he gave Law this time was so amused, so knowing, that Law suddenly felt incredibly exposed. It was like this man could understand everything about him and Straw Hat, and about Law’s motives; things that even Law himself didn’t know.
He hated the look.
Clicking his tongue in annoyance, Law finally looked away. “He’s here. Unless he manages to reopen his wounds and dies.”
“Wonderful! Thank you for taking care of him. I’ll take over from now on.”
"Why?" Law asked before he could stop himself, or at least try to keep his unfounded hostility out of his voice.
And once again, laughter was his response. "Oh, did you intend to keep Luffy all to yourself?"
Law startled at those words. Suddenly, as if doused in ice-cold water, Law was brought back to reality—the reality where Straw Hat was just some pirate he had barely met once, where Law had his own life, his own mission which allowed for no attachments to anyone or anything.
The reality where he had no reason to stay.
Ignoring the painful pang next to his heart, as well as the sharp tug on his little finger—imaginary, it wasn't real, there was nothing there—, Law gave the hat in his hands one last look before he closed his eyes momentarily and sighed.
“No,” he said simply as he finally stood up to his feet. “Two weeks of absolute rest, minimum.”
The Dark King didn’t say anything for a moment, merely studying Law’s expression as if he was trying to cut into his brain and pick him apart, but before Law could snap at him to stop, the man nodded. “Alright, thank you.”
With no reason to linger anymore, Law tossed the straw hat at Rayleigh, not sparing either him or the hat another glance. “Let’s go.”
“What?!”
“But captain—”
Law cut off his crew’s protests with a single glare, one that made them all deflate and shuffle to the sub without another word of complaint. He could hear Shachi and Penguin whining quietly to each other about having to leave the Maiden Island without even getting to properly talk to a single girl but he ignored them, choosing to focus on their departure.
Briefly, he wondered whether he should have waited to at least say goodbye to Straw Hat… but he knew that if he waited for him, if he had to look into those huge, expressive, beautiful eyes that were so full of energy and passion and life… he wouldn’t be able to say it.
Wouldn’t be able to leave.
And Law knew, he knew he needed to go now.
He had no right to stay by his side, after all—not when Straw Hat was injured, broken, and suffering, not when Law could do nothing about it except stop the physical bleeding. Not when Law himself was already broken, his path set for him since eleven years ago—a path that led to nothing but destruction, and which would have Law leave eventually regardless.
It was better for the both of them like this; to part ways before it was too late.
Before either of them could do something as stupid as falling in love was.
—————
That was two years ago. During that time, Law had managed to forget about Straw Hat Luffy—forced himself to pretend he didn’t see the golden string on his left hand, to act like he didn’t know who it led to. Focusing on his mission, on Joker, Law lived his life without looking back at those eyes and bright smile.
But now, Straw Hat Luffy was standing in front of him in the snow of Punk Hazard, bright and beautiful and oh-so-warm and Law…
Law knew.
He knew he wouldn’t be able to pretend anymore.
Excerpt from Taxi
An older piece of mine, in light of recent international events genocidal invasions. Characters: Trafalgar Law and Rebecca
Modern day AU with universe elements. The lines of the poem in the middle is from a Mahmoud Darwish poem, I Come From There, and the one line excerpt Rebecca goes on to quote is from 24th September 1945, by Nazim (Nasim) Hikmet.
Setting: Taxi driver Law has picked up Rebecca from the airport, conversation and recognition about fucked-up pasts ensue on their way to Zoro's dojo. ***********
"Where are you from?" she asked.
"Hmm?" Law looked up, a little surprised. Pre-empted. Hardly got that question nowadays.
"You're not from here."
"I grew up here."
"Weren't born here."
"No." He fiddled with the buttons of the radio as always when white noise was less threatening than conversation. What had given him away?
"You had to leave a place?"
He looked over his shoulder for a second. The burning of his hometown was seared into his memory, but didn't scorch his every waking moment. Not now.
"Who are you, sister?"
She opened her bag. Rooted around for a bottle of water. Uncapped it and took a drink. She eased a foot out of one of the sneakers. Flexible, lithe. Some strength in the casual, well-kept body. Her feet didn't smell either. That was some achievement.
"Me too," she said. She wondered if the tattoos hid scars. "Had to leave a place."
"I see."
The road was hemming them in like a wall to keep them out, to separate them from everything that anyone ever wanted. The discards, broken toys, the displaced, were shovelled along the asphalt like coal into a furnace chute.
"Or we were kept from a place. Like this." She waved at the concrete zipping by. "My father and I were not allowed to participate in society. Wrong class. My mother was shot."
Law nodded. People told taxi drivers everything. They'd never see them again, right? Except he knew where she was going.
"Zoro helped me out. In the past."
Just like Doflamingo and Cora had helped him. He had an idea that Zoro's assistance might have had a few less long-lasting entanglements.
"Who shot her?" he asked, running his fingers back and forth on the wheel. He didn't need to ask if the wounds were fatal.
"New government." Her eyes were on the verge zipping past, dimming into evening.
"My father," she paused, "It almost destroyed him. He loved her." She wanted to see more than concrete, but the fastest way was the most sterile. She took in the stiff back in front of her, but didn't feel any crackle of anger. "You look like someone who understands the songs."
Law remembered. His father, the meetings, going with Lammy and his mother to buy the hot, flat bread, piles of it like pancakes. It was so easy to make, but she didn't have time. She was going to teach him one day. A different kind of flour. Didn't hurt his stomach.
The sickness that had almost taken Lammy, if the soldiers hadn't beaten the condition to it, was never far from the surface in those days. He remembered the words his dad had taught him before the Donquixote brothers took him. His father had arranged for them to do so. The soldiers came soon after.
He saw the body, the death. His glasses shattered on the floor as he fell forward. Thinking at the time, how would his father see? He was blind without his glasses. Someone's hand over Law's mouth — Was it Cora? — holding him back. This woman was the same as him? Same as Law?
"I have my own view, And an extra blade of grass." Smooth, the lines were loud enough to be heard from the back of the cab, but no dramatics, not shouting.
"Mine is the moon at the far edge of the words, And the bounty of birds," she answered. The moon was now actually in the sky. An orange ball rising ahead of them. Both rested a beat before Law continued.
"And the immortal olive tree. I walked this land before the swords…"
He had long shifts. Reciting the hope, the history, his father had taught him kept him near, and sure helped pass the time. Less fear in them than warnings and prayers. Kept his family close. Maybe his tatts were like the beads of a rosary, the stanzas of an ode.
"Turned its living body into a laden table." The woman pushed her fringe up and settled the scarf over her head and shoulders. "I come from there."
"You come from there?" Law asked. He thought he was the only one left.
She shook her head. "Sorry." She'd heard the click of want. "But his words, those works." She looked out the window again. She knew Law knew how they crossed nations. The poet came from there, and his words went everywhere.
"Your father is?"
"Still alive. Things are good now."
Was Zoro a mercenary? How had he helped this woman out? Some kind of missionary?
"In body, mind and soul?"
She wished she could see the driver's face better. Only the dregs or the very wealthy marked themselves up in her society. Both had helped her. It was darker now. Maybe his voice told her more about him than anything.
"The best days have yet to be lived." Different wordsmith, same desire to see the sun shine freely. She wasn't sure though if the best was before her. It had always been warm in her mother's arms.
"Preach." Law loosened the back of his shirt from the seat, from Ace's massager. He wasn't sure though. The few scraps of photos Doflamingo and Cora somehow scavenged were all he had of his family. Festivals had been fun. Studying medicine with his parents had made him proud.
DAY 4: A Good Night's Sleep
Law can't escape, even in his dreams. Especially in his dreams.
Water Law Words Count : 962 No. 4: HALLUCINATIONS Hypnosis | Sensory Deprivation | “You're still alive in my head.” (Billy Lockett, More)
Tumblr media
Law ran and ran, but he couldn't escape. The white stretched everywhere, on the buildings, on the trees, on the people . The cold air bit his skin viciously and his ragged breathing formed condensation in the air.
The smoke morphed before his eyes, winding and wrapping all around him. The smell of smoke and burning flesh hit his nose and Law doubled over to vomit.
He was so hot, his skin was clammy and he felt like he was suffocating in his heavy black feather coat. The coat swallowed him up completely, almost suffocating him and Law wondered when it had arrived on his shoulders. It must have been Cora-san who had put it there. But where was Cora-san?
The smoke thickened, taking on the appearance of crows with bloody feathers. Drops of blood fell onto the pristine snow. White. Red. Black. Law’s head kept spinning.
Where was Cora-san?
If they didn't hurry up, Doflamingo would catch up with them.
(Doflamingo had already caught up with them.)
(Cora-san was dead.)
Law looked up at the sky. The stars shone brightly in the dark night, incandescent and untouchable. (How could he see them through the smoke?) A star grew in the sky, grew and grew until Law could see only it, until his retina burned in his eyeballs.
Strings of gold descended from the heavens, like the will of a vengeful god (run Law, run), and fell to the earth with all the force of a meteor. The ground shook and Law fell into the bloody snow.
The threads streaked the sky by the thousands until Law could no longer see the stars, trapping him in the White City. (City of the Dead, City of Angels)
A birdcage.
(Doflamingo was there.)
(Run, Law, Run.)
The blood-stained raven croaked, a cruel, bitter laugh. Law wept with it. His tears felt like stardrops, burning against his cheeks.
Law began to run again. The white continued to advance, marking his skin and seeping into his body, all the way to his lungs. Soon, the white would swallow him whole until nothing remained of him but a bloodstain on the snow.
A weight fell on his back, sending him to the ground and snow poured into his mouth. Law tried to swim through the mass that clung to his skin like blood, but chains around his feet pulled him deeper into the earth.
Law screamed. But no one heard him.
The pressure on his back grew more intense and when Law opened his eyes again, Lammy's lifeless eyes were staring at him. Law was drowning in a sea of severed limbs and rotting flesh. Bones sticking out in all the wrong directions, teeth falling out of twisted smiles. Gaunt skin covered in white spots.
The white had caught up with him.
(Dead. Everyone was dead.)
Law was the only survivor.
“See? There is no despair in this world. Someone will probably come and give you a helping hand.”
A maggot crawled out of Lammy's eye and into Law's ear.
But he couldn't scream.
(But he couldn't cry.)
If he screamed, the Navy would find him and kill him.
(If he cried, Doflamingo would find him and kill him.)
It was his only way to leave Flevance alive.
(It was his only way to leave Minion Island alive.)
A skeletal hand placed itself over his hand and mouth, preventing him from screaming. Terrified, Law followed the arm with his eyes, barely daring to move or breathe. Cora-san smiled at him, blood running from his nose and a broken tooth.
“I’ll die smiling! Because if you ever think of me, I want you to remember my smile.”
Cora-san's coat spontaneously caught fire. As usual, Cora-san didn't notice. The fire spread to the mountain of corpses that Law was on top of, licking the soles of his shoes.
The World Government wanted to remove all evidence.
(But they wouldn't be able to, because Law was still alive.)
(For that, he had to run.)
(Run, Law, Run.)
A hand locked around his ankle, cold and bony. Lammy’s head snapped around in its socket, the skin of her face melting around her eyeballs. She was smiling.
“Big brother, let’s go to the festival!”
Lammy’s hand tightened, her fingers digging in painfully until blood flowed.
“Big brother, why don’t you want to play with me?”
There were tears in her eyes.
“Big brother, why don’t you love me anymore?”
Law tried to pull away, tugging and kicking. He fell out of the pile and into the snow, Lammy’s torn-off arm still clinging to his ankle.
Gunshots rang out in the night, making Law flinch violently.
(Two brothers face to face, a gun in their hands. A perfect mirror.)
(Cora-san's body falling on the chest where Law was hidden.)
Law began to run, Lammy's arm like prisoner's chains around his feet. Black and pink feathers flew around him, a raven laughed in the distance.
Strings wrapped around Law's throat and hands. A doll tangled in his puppeteer's grip.
"You can't run forever, Law."
He couldn't escape.
  He couldn't escape.
   He couldn't escape.
A crevasse opened beneath his feet, snow cascading down and dragging Law down with it. The white covered him, swallowed him, ate him whole.
But just before Law was completely devoured by the white, an open hand closed around his wrist. Warm and soft and gentle. A blond man smiled at him, black and pink feathers dancing around him.
“If you want a good night's sleep, nothing better.”
(Law hadn't slept properly since Cora-san died.)
(The world was so noisy .)
“Cora-san?”
Law's voice was weak, almost inaudible.
(No one had heard him cry amidst the explosions, long after Cora-san died.)
(Cora-san could always hear him.)
“ Wrong .”
Law screamed.
(No one heard him.)
I'm sorry.
