Zelda’s Secret Well is located in Hateno Village behind Link’s house. Zelda used the small room at the bottom of the well as a quiet study where she could be alone with her thoughts. This is where she left her personal diary, from which we can learn about her life after Link freed her from Calamity Ganon.
It’s unclear how much time has passed since the events of Breath of the Wild. One of the clearest indications, however, is Hudson and Rhondson’s daughter Matisson, who is old enough to travel to Gerudo Town. Perhaps it makes sense to speculate that, while seven years passed in the real world between the release of Breath of the Wild and the release of Tears of the Kingdom, seven years passed in Hyrule as well.
The diary in Zelda’s Secret Well suggests that, during this time, Zelda lived together with Link in Hateno while establishing a school for the village children. Zelda seems to have attached great significance to her work in Hateno, and her students’ crayon drawings adorn the walls of her underground study. Despite the success of the school, the stacks of books and papers covering the desk and bookcase in the well suggest that Zelda wasn’t quite ready to settle down. The mention of Zelda’s frequent travels in her diary also suggest that she saw Hateno Village as more of a base of operations than a permanent home.
In an interview, Hidemaro Fujibayashi said that Tears of the Kingdom is about Zelda “going through growth, experiencing things, and ultimately figuring out what kind of a person she’s going to be.” It may be inevitable that Zelda will eventually return to Hyrule Castle, especially since her diary reveals that she still thinks of Link as a bodyguard. Nevertheless, the solemnity of Zelda’s journey along the path to becoming a queen is undercut by the “treasure” you find next to her desk: Link’s champion-blue hairband from a hundred years ago, a memento that Zelda always kept close.

Linktober day 11: rollin’ inn
After a day fighting a volcano, the heroic group stumble back to the inn to take a Long Rest. Unfortunately for Link, his sleep is interrupted by mournful ghosts partying it up in his brain.
(Mineru and rauru were the last of their kind ever since the already small insular zonai kingdom was decimated by a strange, flesh bending plague. A lone miner found the two children, and decided to take them in despite concerns of the curse.
He raised them. When they asked him to help fight the source of their blood family’s extinction, who was he to say no?)
More about this totk au! (It all started when zelda did not get teleported into the past, and then spiraled from there)

Hero of Bombs AU (original concept by @mipmoth)
The crossover I didn’t know I desperately needed but do indeed desperately need, & thanks to Tears of the Kingdom, we do have Bomb Flowers & all manner of projectiles for Ingo to throw at baddies, or to Link in a pinch! 💣
I’d go back to their original comic now & again (partially because Legends Arceus really reminds me of BotW), where Moth imagines Ingo in BotW Hyrule with the popularly feral Link. In this AU of their AU it’s more or less the same, except Link is cured of his amnesia, & wants to help Ingo with his, as well as help him go home.
First / Sage of Spirit Arc / Koroks? / Screenshot Edit 1 / Screenshot Edit 2 / Link’s Abilities / Round Ears & Lore / Reunion /

Best Wells in Tears of the Kingdom #1
Tumblr media
As soon as I realized that Link can venture into the wells of Tears of the Kingdom, I made it my top priority to travel to Kakariko Village. The Kakariko Village Well in Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite dungeons in the entire Legend of Zelda series, and I couldn’t wait to see what horrors lurked beneath the village in Tears of the Kingdom.
The Kakariko Village Well is tucked away in a quiet corner of town in the shadow of a cliff. As soon as you drop down the well’s shaft, you’re confronted with grim stone architecture laid out in a simple maze. Faded red markings adorn high walls lit by a lone brazier. So far, so sinister!
But then I noticed the sparkle of an apple on the ground. I followed the trail of fallen fruit to find Cottla, Link’s hide-and-seek playmate from Breath of the Wild. Cottla is practicing her cooking in secret in order to surprise her father and older sister, and she keeps a battered copy of her mother’s recipe book next to her cooking pot. While basking in the glow of a mother’s love for her family, you can pick up a few simple recipes from the book. You can also harvest a healthy set of fortified pumpkins and swift carrots growing in a patch of sunlight, which Cottla allows Link to take in exchange for keeping her secret safe.
My favorite element of the trope of “the hidden underground room” is the dark glee of finding a horrible secret in an otherwise wholesome environment. Still, I have to admit that uncovering something sweet and gentle in a seemingly creepy environment is just as rewarding.

Well, if wells manage to stay cool, then I would be a well enthusiast while the outside weather is above 90 °F (32 °C)....or a significant portion of the summer
Transcript:
[In Lookout Landing well....]
(Fera, from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is caught off-guard by a splash next to her)
Cat, as a Hylian still with a black mask and wide-brim hat, popping out of the water hidden below next to Fera: Well, howdy.

Linktober day 10: the fire temple
Ghosts cry too, you know.
(The desecration of a loved one vs the undying determination to help preserve the future… a tale as old as time memorial. The sage of fire had sealed himself in his temple, preserving his soul in preparation for the day Rauru’s seals were to break with Mineru’s technology. But the Malice does what it does best— corrupt and twist, until nothing was left except a dying wish.)
Unfortunately, nobody knows ancient Goronese. So that story’s sort of going right over their heads and nailing rauru’s weepy ghost in the skull.
This au is called Familiar Familiar, and is totk without the time travel! I’m basically building my own lore at this point.
