may i ask what you’re using to ink traditionally??
YES omg iwill link my favorites igot them all on Jetpens.com
first one is disposable but very nice thin & thick lines, 2nd one nylon brush fountain body!
3rd one, the Tombow fudenosuke comes in hard or soft, both arevery good to have and VERY versatile trusted pens to me, very easy consistent lines w/out much effort
the other two arevery nice for filling large areas, the kuretake no. 55 is felt tip and soft so makes nice thin lines too, but ink is thinner, and kuretake no.25 is thicker? stickier ink? BUT will cover an area very opaque first pass (kuretake 55 FEELS nicer to use though)

Ok, pen reviews for my recent jetpens purchases go
• unfortunately they Lied about the pilot G-Tec-C4. Claimed to be really good smooth pen, and the less expensive, non japanese, but exactly the same version of the Hi-Tec-C.
The ink skips through every stroke. I am saving full judgement for when I start a new sketchbook, though I'm not sure if slightly more textured paper will help (my current sketchbook is really smooth paper!). I want it to work out so bad! So many people love this pen (yes, This pen, not its more expensive japanese counterpart)
I'd get any other gel pen, but I love the tiny little point of the G-Tec so much....please god... Anyway I keep trying to use it on every page to test it out but it just keeps skipping, and I bought 2 so its not even a one off, they both skip! Holding out hope that its the paper or the oils from my hand but it has not made it to Main Drawng Utensil status.
Scribbles made with the G-Tec-C4
Images provided by jetpens
• Fortunately, they were NOT lying about the Tombow Fudenosuke hard tip pen. This shit rocks. The line variation you can get with it is very good, I'm writing tiny microscopic notes in my sketchbook with the point of the fine tip, and it being a Hard tip is awesome... I love line width variation that comes with brush pens but actual brush pens don't give me that same Control especially when making tiny little lines, and i LOOOOVE control.
I'm waiting until I have more things to buy off of jetpems, so that I can buy more without my order just being like 3 pens. Because thats what the order I'm making this post about was and it felt so wasteful and humiliating. The only "bad thing" I can think of is the ink could be a tiny bit darker, but it's not a Huge difference between my darker inks/pens, it just looks 5% more faded.
Drawings made with Tombow Fudenosuke.
Image provided by jetpens, this is the Hard - Black version, not soft brush.

hi! I was wondering what you used for your silver doodles? (Paper, markers, etc?) love your art :)
AHH!! i used a LOT of different pens on that page, let me give you the rundown (i assume you mean this one)
first were all of my currently inked fountain pens - i have a few that i havent filled for a while just b/c theyre a pain
left to right: moonman m2 inked with sailor manyo sakura, kaweco sport in limited edition iridescent pearl inked with j herbin diabolo menthe, moonman n6 inked with j herbin corail des tropiques, nahvalur original in peter draws artist edition silver inked with sailor manyo sakura, twsbi eco inked with pilot iroshizuku hana-ikada, twsbi diamond 580 in special edition iris inked with pilot iroshizuku hana-ikada, and a lamy safari in special edition light rose inked with diamine soft mint! all nibs are fine except for the twsbi eco, it has a bold nib
i also used the tombow fudenosuke brush pen, a red pilot g2, and a couple other random black pens i had laying around (cant remember the specific ones)
for the markers, i use copics because i am unfortunately that bitch, SOWWY. i recommend buying cheaper alcohol markers like ohuhu or touchfive/touchnew instead. the generic michaels brand ones are prone to dye crystalization so i cant recommend them
the paper is just shitty sketchbook paper, i think its literally strathmore Sketch(tm) paper, the one with the yellow cover. i have to put a piece of paper between the pages to make sure markers dont bleed thru, but it surprisingly handles fountain pens really well. also im just guessing because my friend gave the sketchbook to me as a graduation gift and she ripped the cover off to hide how much (or more accurately, little) she paid for it :P im still friends with her shes awesome

ur drawings r so clean and expressive i lvoe!!!frothign at the mouth!! what kind of pen do you use to ink your drawings >>???!?
Thank you, Anon! Your rabid reaction to my inks makes me happy!
I have a few different pens I use while inking, each one with its own specialty.
From Top Down:
Pentel pocket brush pen is a refillable pen with a large soft brush tip. I like it for black fills and texture. Swipes really nice.
Tombow Fudenosuke hard tip. Anouther brush pen, but with a short hard tip. I get a lot of line variation out of this type of pen and use it for 90% of my line work.
Sakura Pigma Micron, I love these for fine details. 005 is SO SMALL!
Sakura Gelly Roll goes over dry ink like a dream. I use it for fine white lines and tiny corrections.
You can find most of these pens (or others like them) in most art supplies/statonary stores. 🖊

Bullet Journaling | My Life in a Notebook
So I got a couple of questions about my bullet journal today (and I have gotten a few throughout the past year or so). So here a bit about my planner history and my current bullet journal. Nobody may care but here you go.
Here are all my past (and current planner):
I have been planning in some fashion like this since at least 2014. I used to use a coil planner from a company I am not naming. I used that for about three years. And while using those, I discover planner stickers and sticker kits. So I used sticker kits and did “no white space” planning. But that planner was big and heavy and didn’t serve my life. So I loved the idea of bullet journaling because 1) I could do what I wanted and 2) I could draw and use fun pens and pencils and be creative. So since about 2018, I have bujo’d.
Here are all my bullet journals:
Each notebook hold about six months. But I like looking at pretty things. So I started buying cute icons. And washi tape. And before you know, I am back to using full blown sticker kits. And by now, people were making stickers with foil. And down the rabbit hole I went. My bullet journal is so a point of joy for me. I love looking at it and smiling at how pretty it is. So I spend the money on pretty things for it.
Supplies:
- Notebook: I currently use an Archer and Olive journal. They are not cheap but they usually go on sale every so often. You don’t need a fancy journal. There are dot journals at Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart. I started off in Leuchtrumm and then used Scribbles That Matter and the last two are A&O. But any notebook will work.
- Pens and Pencils: Again, any pen/marker/pencil works. I current use a Pentel Ener-gel Clean .5 in Black. PaperJoy gel pens are popular. So are Sharpie Pens, and Muji Pen. Find yourself a pen that doesn’t smear. For the brush lettering I use a Fudenosuke by Tombow, they have hard and soft tips. I also have the Tombow Dualbrush Pens that can double as watercolors. A great cheap option is Crayola Supertips, which I started off with. But again find something you love and use it!!
- Washi Tape: I sometimes love washi tape and sometimes I hate it. Washi tape is paper tape and that is removable without damaging paper. You can buy it at Walmart, craft stores, Amazon, Etsy, Ali Express.
- Stickers: You don’t need stickers to make a bullet journal work for you. I like pretty things. So I use my discretionary income on planner stickers. They give me great joy. I buy both full kits (I often buy mini kits or B6 kits based on the size of my notebook). I also buy functional stickers (label stickers, scripts, little bullet dotes, icons). And I buy decorative stickers because they are pretty and are often foil so my planner shines.
What I Track:
I am a simple hoe. I do a weekly spread, I usually create a monthly calendar, I track some things for work. I have swatches of my Tombows, swatches of my washi, a grid cheat sheet for dividing pages evenly, my fic tracker, and a tracker of my closet, bill tracker, year at a glance. Lots of people track habits monthly. I put it in a weekly tracker. Honestly put in it what you will use.
Resources:
- I watch a lot of YouTube videos of Plan with Mes with planner girls using kits and what not. That is how I get inspiration on how to layer things and what is out there and how to make things pretty. I also watch haul videos. I shouldn’t but I do. They are super enabling. When I wanted to learn brush lettering, I watch YouTube videos. I watch people setting up bullet journals. I am a research gal.
- I also follow a bunch of planner girls and bullet journal accounts on Instagram. Huge inspiration. Here are some of the peeps I follow on IG and YouTube:
Gathered Plans, Planning Klo, Moon Prism Planner, Scribble Prints Co. Viv Luvstoplan, Shawnte Plans, lauralee_plans, TheCoffeeMonsterzCo, Cindy Guentert-Baldo (great for lettering!), Erin Floto Designs, planmoshplans, jannplansthings, plansthatblossom
- Here are some of the places I buy stickers from:
Sadie’s Stickers, Scribble Prints Co, TheCoffeeMonsterzCo (that is where the little Lokis are from), The Giving Girl, Nicollette Amour Designs (she is closed right now), honeyinked, Clever Gal Crafts, PaperMuseCrafts, MegBMakes. There are a ton of shops out there all over the world. Find a few you love.
Most of my washi tape is either from Simply Gilded or TheCoffeeMonsterzCo. Hobby Lobby has great selections (if you have one)
How to Save Money:
-Don’t buy everything at once. Start small. See what you like, what you don’t. No need to break the bank right away. You would hate to buy everything and then not use it! I have bought things I won’t use because I was like “ooooh sparkly.”
- See if printables work for you. Printing and cutting stickers yourself can be way cheaper. Just an option
- Look for ways to try things out or buy smaller amounts. This is especially true with washi tape. Tons of shops on Etsy sell washi tape samples. A lot shops have sampler sheets.
- Look for coupon codes and sales. Planner stickers are always going on sale. And shops almost always have a coupon code on their IG account. They also have PR peeps who have coupon codes too and it often means the shop throws in an extra freebie. Black Friday is huge. Follow shops on IG.
- Don’t worry about keeping up with the Joneses. I have been planning for a long time. And this style gives me joy. I have been building this collection for years. I have pretty much narrowed down what I love. And I have the money to spend (I haven’t been spending money on gas or eating out!)
But for me my bujo is a piece of art and a little bit of beauty in my chaotic world. I hope this helps someone. Love you and I am always willing to answer questions about my bullet journal or where anything in particular is from. Love you all!

hello lovely people! months ago, I received a question from an anonymous user: “How to take notes w colored pens?” I thought, ‘why not make a blog post in response to that message?’
and here’s that blog post! it’s very late, but I think now’s an ideal time because I found out that I just hit 2k! thank you so much for all your love and support for my blog! <3
TAKING NOTES WITH COLORED PENS: The Advice, Choosing Colors, and Suggested Combos
The Advice: Choose to work with at least 3 colors only!
Colored pens can really overwhelm one's giddy and stationery-loving self, especially with all the aesthetically-pleasing pictures of colorful notes all over the studyblr and studygram communities.
My advice is to be minimal and wise when choosing the ink color to complement your notes.Doing so will not make your notes feel too busy and kind of all over the place, which may strain your eyes.
You may choose to assign specific parts of the lesson with the two to three colors you have: red for the important terms, and blue for the important concepts. However, if you choose to color code, keep in mind to be consistent in using your system. If you assign different colors for different subjects, there's a chance that you may get the colors mixed up, especially if you use more than two accent colors.
When I write my notes, I typically only use one accent color. For example, in my General Biology I notes, I use yellow green as my accent color. I write the titles of the lessons is brush calligraphy with my tombow fudenosuke soft tip brush pen. The body of my notes is written in black ink, except for some terms and concepts. I write those in yellow green ink. Occasionally, I will ll use my grey pen to write information that are notable but do not have to stand out. The subtitles within the lesson are written in black ink as well, and I highlight them with a neon green marker.
Sometimes, I will choose to work with more than three colors. I have only done so in my Pre-calculus notes, when I drew graphs of the conic sections and labeled their parts, but I almost always only use one pen of a different color and a black one to write my organized notes.
When I have not yet revised my (very) messy class notes and I review them, I use a highlighter, like what you can see in the following photos.
But, tbh, I do not follow this advice of mine when I write my Philosophy notes. I just cannot choose one color that reminds me of Philosophy (although recently, I have associated the pastel purple Stabilo highlighter with it), so when I revised my notes for the first lesson, I decided to work with this pack of ash-colored marking pens from Daiso, and later into the first semester, I added the coral pink mildliner into the bunch. In my latest Philosophy notes, I decided to work with the six pastel Stabilo highlighters.
Choosing Colors
I found this research. Based on that, the color red is the most efficient to use, especially in terms of memorization. The research concluded that that's because red has the longest wavelength, "is an easy, warm color to the eye", and it releases the most energy out of the colors that were tested (black, blue, and red).
This article that I also found agrees with the result of the previous study. According to the article, "when a task requires attention to details, the presence of the color red boosts performance by as much as 31 percent compared to blue," based on a year-long study conducted at the University of British Columbia, Sauder School of Business.
The studies that I have found are not much. Some may contradict the results of those based on their own experiences, so keep in mind that you are free to choose whatever color you want when writing your notes. Nonetheless, I hope you will go read the articles yourselves so that you can have some help, or you can do your own research if you want.
Personally, I chose the accent colors of my notes based on the colors I typically associate with the subjects, a reason that I think have been apparent with yellow green being my accent color for General Biology I. I use brown for Earth Science, and I use yellow for Oral Communication in Context. For General Mathematics and Pre-calculus, blue is my main accent color, although I use different shades for each.
Suggested Combos
I curated some swatches that you may want to use when writing your notes! These are some of the many combinations that you can utilise. :)
The title of the last swatch is, apparently, inspired by the Starry Tree from the Forest app. :)
Aaaaand we’re done! That’s all I have to say regarding note-taking with colored pens! Hope you all liked this blog post aaaa and thank you so so so much for 2k followers! Have a happy day everyone and stay hydrated ok!! <3

copic: what are some of your fav brands of art supplies?
Difficult to say really. I don’t tend to stick to certain brands but focus on the product itself. When I think of brands, my mind jumps straight to any black markers or inks. I’m keen on using Winsor & Newton’s black India Ink. Otherwise a wide assortment of black pens, depending on what effect or thickness I’m going for. Ranging from Pentel brush pen, a Tombow Fudenosuke Soft Brush Pen, a Tombow ABT Dual Brush Pen, Speedball 2964 Sketching Pen Set, Berol Colour Broad Fibre Tipped Pens and various other assorted pens.I’ve recently purchased a packet of Micron pens and I’m loving the quality and clean lines they give. I’ve grown very keen on using mechanical pencils because of their clean lines. I use a cheap packet of 10 and they work like a dream.

As you can see I went a little bit crazy on my drawning spread and finished it before second week of April. I was in the artist mood because of good weather. We finally have a lot more sun in Moscow and there are rivers of melting snow.
But in my weekly spead I was really lazy. I don’t know, sometimes I just don’t feel like writing my to do, and just tracking things.
I went a little overboard with quotes, but this is because of my fear of blank page. It’s like my motto: if you don’t know what to do, write quotes.
My mood tracker is a bit overwhelming, I mark off 3 different mood I have in a day. But it feels like not enough or too much. I guess I’ll to try change it or get rid of it completely.
Hope you’re all having a good April :)

bullet journalling is something extremely trendy atm and it's an amazing way to keep your life in check while also being super aesthetic and impressing all your family and friends looking at the journal. it doesn't always have to be the most extravagant thing in the world or even that neat. all that matters is that it's able to function for you and what you want to do with it.
let's start with the basics of starting a journal, shall we?
[1] GET A NOTEBOOK
this doesn't have to be the big, nice expensive notebooks all the studyblrs use. if you want to splurge go ahead and get them, but you don't necessarily need them. all you need is a simple notebook, whether it's lined, unlined, gridded, or dotted.
here's the common notebooks people use:
moleskine notebooks (usually the classic notebook, size large, and dotted pages)
leuchtturm 1917 notebook
essentials grid-lined notebook, large, a5
muji spirals
any dotted/grid lined notebook
of course, you obviously don't need to use any of these, but these are the common ones people use. personally, i use a soft cover, large, gridded moleskine notebook, but i think any of these options would be great for anyone.
[2] FIND INSPIRATION
personally, i think this is one of the most important steps of starting a bullet journal. one, it allows you to figure out what you personally want to do with your bullet journal, and two, you can get a feel for the decorations. here's where i find most of my inspirations:
°˖✧ instagram ✧˖° my favorite thing to do is scroll through instagram with different studygrams and their journals. here are some of my favorite accounts:
@boystudy
@journalsanctuary
@studyrose
@tbhstudying
@peachystudy
@studyng
@smoinerd
there's a ton more than that, but that's the first few that i saw in the collection i saved on instagram.
also that's another tip i have for instagram. make sure to save them in collections so you can refer back to the images!! basically, to save in a collection there's a little flag thing in the right hand side of the banner at the bottom of the picture that holds the like, comment, and dm buttons. press and hold on that and you're asked to add to a collection. if you didn't make one already, press the plus button and create a bullet journal inspiration collection and it's exteeemely helpful. trust me on this.
°˖✧ tumblr ✧˖° personally, i don't check bullet journal stuff on here as much so i don't have any blog recommendations, but occasionally i would search up "bullet journal" and there's a ton of images and masterposts that come up. i definitely suggest to check there!
if you want a basis of which blogs to check, the studygrams i mentioned above usually have a tumblr blog where they blog and repost other blogs' bullet journal spreads so definitely check there.
the community is extremely interconnected so you can definitely find amazing inspiration for spreads and where to start on there!!
°˖✧ youtube ✧˖° a ha, this is where i always end up procrastinating my own homework and watch a ton of bullet journal videos.
these are really helpful if you want flip-throughs with explanations and the step -by-step process people take to make all of their spreads. most people upload their monthly spreads which is super helpful when you're first setting up your bullet journal.
there's a lot of setting up bujo videos as well, so you probably won't get too lost.
these are the channels i like to watch (some are redundant to the studygrams whOOPS):
tbhstudying
smoinerd
studyquill
studywithinspo
journalsanctuary
amandarachlee
ememworld
Hannah Song
cheyenne barton
there's a ton more bujo channels out there, these are just the ones i remember from seeing on my suggested page and to which i'm subscribed.
[3] KNOW FOR WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO USE YOUR JOURNAL
the whole point of your bullet journal is that you're going to come back to it and use it again. many of my friends had tried to start a bullet journal and quit because they couldn't keep up with it.
you're going to want to make sure your bullet journal is functional for you and what you want to do with it. originally, the bullet journal was made as a personalized planner that you can use whenever you feel like it. personally, that's for what i use it. i also like to make random color inspiration spreads and quote spreads. this is all up to you, though.
here's some ideas for what you can use your bullet journal:
planner/agenda
journalling your feelings daily
doodles
song lyrics
mood boards
to-do lists
story boards
[4] GET YOUR WRITING UTENSILS AND START WRITING
this is the second most important step after you get your notebook. you want to have things with which you like to write so you're motivated to go back to your notebook and start journalling.
you don't need any of the fancy pens everyone has. in fact, you just need one pen and you're good. some people like to use a lot of different colors, markers, and watercolors (i'm guilty of this) but it's not necessary. i personally think the minimalistic bullet journals but i'm not very good at doodling, so i go kinda extravagant.
anyways, here are pens a lot of people like to use:
zebra sarasa
pilot juice
muji pens (0.38 when capped, 0.5 retractable)
uniball signo dx
pentel energel
pilot frixion
here's some highlighters/markers (some are for calligraphy but if you want an article on how to learn calligraphy, please send me a message and i'll definitely write one!!):
crayola supertips
kuretake zig brushables
kuretake zig true brush
zebra mildliners
tombow abt dual brush pens
tombow fudenosuke
pilot frixion pastel erasable highlighters
pentel sign brush pen
uni propus window highlighters
reminder: you don't need any of these things!! these are just suggestions about which are often talked in the studyblr community.
[5] GO GET WRITING!!
this is where you have the most fun! go and start your bujo!
go put your pens to use!!
take that inspiration and make your own spreads!!
take your time and think about what you actually want to write. i have a ton of unused spreads because i didn't like them/didn't use them. the good thing about this system is that it's adaptable; you can figure out what worked for you one month, what didn't, and use that to work on the next month!
there's multiple ways you can make your spreads. they can be kinda extravagant, or minimalistic. what i mean by extravagant is using the whole shebang: pictures, washi tape, calligraphy, watercolor, etc. it doesn't have to be that way!! you can be minimalistic with just a pen and paper. they both look gorgeous.
for me, i like to do extravagant spreads. thus, i find a lot of my pictures here on whi and on pinterest. (my pinterest is ladyofthemidnights [plug, plug]) i usually pick one main color (besides black) to use every month and thus, i go to my collections to pick pictures within that specific color criteria.
after i find the pictures i want to use, i go ahead and put that in a document and print that off. i cut them out and lay them aside and start working on my monthly spreads.
for the monthly overview i used to use the traditional calendar layout but then i ended up switching to the list calendars like shown in the original bullet journal video. i like to make a mood board page with some of the pictures i pick out, washi tape that coordinates with the color of the month, and a song lyric/quote of some kind.
i've been trying to use a habit tracker but i always forget to fill it in.
[6] STAY MOTIVATED
now that you pulled all the stops to starting a bullet journal, it's important that you keep up with it and you actually want to write in your journal.
staying motivated is important, whether it'd be by looking at a ton of pictures on social media or videos on youtube. nonetheless, you'd want to find a way to make you feel excited for writing in your notebook.
PSA: it doesn't matter if your bujo is the most aesthetic thing on the planet. as long as you love it, it's great and especially pretty.
the bujo is meant for functionality above all, as well. this system was created for people to be able to have a functional notebook to write down the things they need to write down that's easily malleable. as long as you can write down what you need to write down, it's a win.
